• characters such as Justin Foley, Tony Padilla, Hannah Baker, Jessica Davis etc don’t belong to me, they belong to Jay Asher and Netflix •
‘Chad Beaumont is a Sweet Heart, that’s what everyone thought, myself included but then, that whole thought was swiped away by a sentence.’
Chad stopped the voice that was walking out of his father’s walkman.
This was it. He thought, fear overcame onto his whole body, spreading itself causing chills on his arms and legs.
Just get this over with. He thought before clicking the continue button on the walkman that stood on top of his closed laptop on his desk.
‘Chad Beaumont was one of my many Junior Year friends, and just like all the others, this one ended in disaster.
I’ll tell you how this one started.’
Yet, without Hannah even starting, Chad already started remembering the day they first met.
Chad walked inside his English classroom, along with his best friend, Justin Foley, who were both laughing about a TV programme that they had watched together when Justin spent the night over at the Beaumont’s household.
Hannah noticed Chad and Justin’s entrance. How couldn’t she?
Justin had left her a huge stain, a stain of which could not be covered and forgotten so easily.
“Silence. Silence.” Spoke Mrs Titch from the front of the classroom as she looked around with her reptile coloured eyes.
Chad got chills just by looking at them since they were so out of this world.
“Today we are learning about Shakespeare and his sense of creativity! Where could he have gotten those amazing storylines from? Was it all from his head or did real life problems help with the writing of some of the storyline.” The woman who seemed to be in her early 40’s spoke, her eyes wandering around the room, touching student by student.
Hannah stood still, pretending to be listening to what Mrs Titch was saying but her mind wrote a different story, she had felt lonely for a really long time now, and every single friendship had gone the worst route possible.
Chad kept listening to the whole theory about Shakespeare’s childhood having affected his writing. Chad’s gullible mind was already starting to believe it.
“So today, I will be pairing you so you can go off and work together on a project, put yourself in Shakespeare’s shoes. If you would write a story, how would you think your life until now would impact your story.” Mrs Titch spoke, Justin and Chad already looked at each other hopeful that they would end up together.
Seemingly that they weren’t the only ones since the class became a point of chattering.
Mrs Titch hushed everyone until the class became very silent.
“I know you would love to work with your BFF’s but, I will choose who you will be paired with and no if’s.” The woman spoke causing some unsatisfied sighs around the classroom since Mrs Titch was not the best at picking pairs.
Chad remembered last year when he was paired with Lisa Eriall. She was so annoying that he didn’t even come to school on the day of the presentation.
Chad listened clearly to the paired names that came out of his teacher’s mouth, his eyes also looked intently at his teacher who was looking at her piece of paper in her hands.
Alisson Costa and Beau Cesar
Lisa Eriell and Jessica Davies
Brad Mitchell and Michael Smith
Sheri Holland and Clay Jensen
Zach Dempsey and Sam Benett
Sarah Montes and Courtney Crimsen
Hannah Baker and Chad Beaumont
Charles Mason and Carlie Costa
Brittany Martin and Anette Howler
Justin Foley and Lewis Williams.
Chad didn’t mind being with Hannah Baker, unlike some people in the classroom who ran to the teacher, trying to change their parter.
Hannah gave Chad a faint smile in which Chad returned it.
Once they left the classroom, Hannah approached Chad to talk to him about the project.
“Hey, Chad right?” The girl with the long beautiful brown hair and paled skin spoke.
“Yes, that would be me.” The boy with the shiny hair spoke with a chuckle.
“So I guess were paired up.” Hannah spoke awkwardly, noticing Justin Foley slightly glaring at her from a far.
“I guess so.” Chad spoke giving a faint response. “So, look I really want to finish this project quickly, cuz’ I don’t know about you but I really like to finish everything quickly especially project so, where do you want to do this project?” Chad asked as the girl kept stealing glances with Justin Foley who was still talking with his parter, Lewis Williams.
“Hello? Earth calling Hannah Baker.” Chad called, quickly grabbing the girl’s attention who giggled at his method.
“Uhm, yeah, I don’t mind what do you suggest?” She spoke, passing her hands through her curly hair.
“Maybe we can do it tomorrow since it’s saturday. If you don’t have anything planned.” Chad says scratching the back of his head.
“Yeah, I mean – no I don’t have anything planned – so at your’s?” The girl asked in which the boy with the crystal eyes nodded.
“At 2 in the afternoon, I’ll text you the address later.” Chad spoke in a sweet tone in which Hannah admired.
The girl nodded before walking away somewhere.
Chad walked towards his best friend who was alone, meaning that his conversation with his new parter had finished.
“You’re paired with Hannah Baker! Poor you.” Justin spoke as they walked together to next class.
“Hey, she’s not that bad. She’s just – misunderstood.” Chad defended the girl.
“Ugh sometimes your really boring, Beaumont. But hey maybe you will get to finally loose your virginity.” Spoke Bryce, coming out of nowhere, as Justin let out a laugh.
“Fuck off, Bryce.” Chad let out. “We’re just going to do a project together at mine. That’s it.” Chad spoke keeping his eyes on the floor which was a habit of his.
“And I was just going to hang out with her at the park, guess where that ended up.” Foley spoke up, referencing back to the picture that he took, which Hannah got the reputation of a slut.
Chad had his suspicions that maybe nothing really happened but he knew more then anyone how charming Justin Foley could be.

“So what do you think? How would your childhood affect your story?” Chad asked the girl, both on top of his comfy bed.
“Well, my childhood was pretty normal and fine, it’s just after coming to Liberty High that would maybe make me write a depressing story.” Hannah Baker spoke, letting out a sad laugh along with it before pushing her curls to the back of her ears.
“I’m sorry about what happened with Justin, he can really be a dick sometimes, trust me, I probably know more then anyone.” Chad spoke, the room turning into giggles, before dying down again.
“Yeah – but if only that was the only thing.” The girl said, Chad noticing the sadness in her voice.
“Hey, come, let’s forget about his project and school and all our problems. We’re going on a walk.” Chad spoke, thinking about something that could take Hannah from this misery for the time being.
Chad felt pity for the girl and wouldn’t want anybody feeling that way.
“Okay.” The girl spoke with a brand new smile, standing up and walking out the room with Chad before walking out the door.
“Mom! I’m going out with – my friend.” Chad spoke, not noticing Hannah’s new smile that was hidden between her curly hair that fell down her shoulder.
“Sure, sweetie. Keep safe will you?” Helena Beaumont spoke from the kitchen.
Both teens walked out of the Beaumont household.
Walking towards a closer park, as the clouds kept protecting them from the heat that came from the sun.
This park was different, it was full of green, everything was green, and it was the place that Chad mostly went to, to be able to have a moment of peace and relaxation.
“I spend a lot of time in this place, I find it a very calm place to freshen your mind.” Chad spoke, his hands resting on his jacket’s pockets.
“Yeah, I can see. It’s very peaceful.” Hannah felt the peace as she stepped foot on the green grass.
She really felt like she had no problems for once, something she didn’t feel not even in her house.
“So, now whenever you feel – shitty. You can come here and have a moment for yourself to keep yourself checked.” Chad said as the pair continued to walk towards some wooden chairs.
“Note taken.” Hannah spoke as the pair started to talk about random topics, people could hear endless giggles and chatter in that park today.
And as weird as it may sound, Hannah and Chad didn’t think about their problems for the whole time.
Chad stood in the same park, listening to his own tape, guilt spread over him like a virus.
“After that, we became inseparable. Or well – at least for a week until disaster struck. I don’t know what happened but somehow we stopped talking. Or actually, Chad stopped talking.” Hannah spoke from the walkman that stood next to Chad on the wooden chair.
Unlike Hannah, Chad knew the exact reason for him distancing himself from her. And he wish that he hadn’t, he knew that maybe if he didn’t, maybe she wouldn’t be where she was right now.
That thought alone broke Chad’s heart, as he still couldn’t stop his tears from sliding down his cheeks.
“I’m sorry.” He let out through his muffled cries.
“Hey. Chad right?” An unknown voice spoke, Chad instantly turned to his right and saw a person who was well known to him.
