characters such as Clay Jensen, Tony Padilla, Hannah Baker etc belong to Jay Asher and Netflix’s series 13 Reasons why as well as some plot •

Chad walked in a fast pace as he usually does, his mind not averting from the tapes, wanting school to finish quickly so he can finish all the tapes, and most importantly see where he is on those and what he did.

Even though he had his suspicions, he was scared it could be another subject, he had done things last year that he was not proud of.

He approached the white long building who was hidden due to the huge amount of trees.

Chad already saw a huge amount of students talking to each other. He hoped they had already moved on from ‘the Hannah thing’ but they obviously didn’t.

The sun hit the boy with the shiny hair, making his eyes clearer as the sky, clearer then ever before as he got closer and closer to the entrance.

On the other side of the tall white school stood Justin, Zach, Alex and Jessica who were in heavy conversation, just like many other students, their subject was Hannah Baker, but this time it was about the tapes, who each had already received.

“More people will hear it, their going to hear -” Jessica stopped in her tracks and looked around, scared that anyone would hear their subject. “That part.” The girl with the wavy hair said lowering her voice even lower (if that was possible).

“The next one to get it should be Chad.” The guy with the extreme blonde hair spoke now while sitting down in a red plastic chair looking intensely at his hands as if they were the most interesting hands in the world.

“Then that should be easy.” Justin spoke, his face maintaining the serious facade. “He will listen to anything we say.”

“Chad can be a lot of things but he is not stupid.” Alex defended the boy he had come to admire for always being really civil and down to earth.

“Fuck that. I’m his best friend, he will listen to me. One way or the other.” Justin says clutching the back of the red chair in front of him.

“You wouldn’t do that. He’s way more then a best friend to you.” Jessica spoke with a genuine smile creeping onto her face accidentally. “He is a brother to you.”

Justin looked intently at Jessica and her smile, giving thought to what she had said.

He loved Chad like a brother, he hated to manipulate him. ‘We do what needs to be done’ he thought.

“The bitch is lying though.” The boy with the brown hair and crystal eyes spoke now. “We know it.”

Alex kept silent, biting away the words he wanted to express about the matter.

Chad was already in his home room, along with Justin, Zach and Bryce who just so happened to be in the same class as him.

Justin sat next to the boy with the shiny straight hair. The boy with the shiny hair ripped a smaller piece of paper from his book and started writing in it.

Justin looked weirdly at the boy, wondering what is he doing?

The teacher at the front of the class kept talking, chalking a person’s name in case they talked on top of him.

Chad stopped writing and slowly passed the small piece of paper to his class neighbour.

Justin hid the paper in between his arms, he looked at it and saw what the sentence read.

I got the tapes.

Justin looked at his best friend with an unreadable expression on his face.

Yet, inside he’s heart beat faster. Scared in case Chad had already listened to everything.

How would he make sure Chad would believe him?

The two boys didn’t make eye contact for the rest of the class, even though they tried a couple times.

Chad was in the changing rooms, getting changed for his Basketball practice.

He loved Basketball, but today was one of the days where his mind was somewhere else.

He didn’t pay attention to any of the practice and he even got hit with the ball a couple of times.

Another issue for him to feel bad about himself. He hated letting people down, especially his team.

He got back to the changing rooms before his best friend approached him with a slightly taller guy, Bryce Walker, behind him.

“What was up with you today, Beaumont?” Walker spoke.

“I’m just not on my right mind today. I’m sorry.” Chad spoke while changing his top from his basketball uniform to a red shirt.

“It’s okay just make sure you get better next time. We need you, al’right?” He said with a sweet tone of voice which Chad appreciated.

Walker moved on with laughter, already making jokes about a girl’s ass with a guy on the other side of the room.

Justin approached Chad with caution, still smiling at the joke that had come out of Bryce’s mouth.

“Look -” he said, getting his best friend’s attention. “I know it’s hard – doing stuff while this is going on but you have to hear me out.” Justin said before stopping and looking around just as Jessica had done earlier.

“She’s lying. She lied about everything said on the tapes.” Justin said causing Chad to frown.

“What do you mean?” He asked confused on his best friend’s words as the room was clearing away very slowly.

“Fuck sakes. She was lying.” Justin spoke getting irritated.

“Was she though? I remember when you were showing off that you had – sex with her and you even showed a photo of you in the park.” Chad spoke, whispering the ‘sex’ in hopes nobody heard him since he was known as a loud mouth.

“You’re still in that part?” Justin spoke, feeling relieved on the inside that he hadn’t gotten there yet.”

“Yeah, I just started listening to it last night and my parents wouldn’t want me missing school.” Chad spoke, suspicious about his best friend’s words.

“Just – whatever you hear, is a lie. You know the people in the tapes, you know them.” Foley spoke, causing mystery and wonder in Chad’s head.

Who else was on the tapes?

He knew about Jessica and Alex, but, who else had a part in Hannah’s suicide?

“Need anything, Tony?” Chad looked back at Justin’s face to see him looking straight past him.

Chad looked back to see a short student with his hair gelled back, tanned skin, in his own clothes.

What was he doing here?

He recognised him from the earlier day.

Justin let out a sigh before going away, leaving Chad to change the rest of his sweaty clothes.

Sometimes stealing glances at the mysterious Tony who still remained in the room, along with some other people who apparently had their practice now.

His thoughts kept going to his conversation with Justin.

Why would a dead girl lie?

On that same night, Chad had stayed awake all night, listening to most of the tapes, Jessica, Alex, Tyler, Courtney, Marcus, however he still didn’t hear his own.

Yet, that didn’t stop his tears from going down his cheek.

He didn’t know if this was a lie as his best friend had told him, but it brought him to tears.

Something about these tapes made Chad want to believe it but he was torn, there was only one thing he kept thinking to himself as a ‘self check’.

His inner thought kept saying something totally different from what the boy was feeling.

She’s lying.
