It’s been a long time coming but I’m here!
Hope that you’ll enjoy this one!
Featured Character: Vincent
Song of the Chapter: Lies by Marina and Diamonds
——————————————
“Lying is like injecting venom in a relationship. And most of the time, there is no anti-venom for some lies.”
Allister’s POV
Aw fuck this!
“Allister, I’m sorry, okay?” Max said over the phone. “I didn’t know that Amanda had us followed and she got a good shot of us kissing. I’m truly sorry.”
Fucketty fucking fuckeroo! What perfect way to start your day. Start it with a heaping serving of bad news with a dash of Amanda Laurentis. To think that going out with him that night was bad enough. Vincent just saw us walking together that night and he snapped at that, what more when he sees the picture. OMG! I know that very evil girl will show that to Vincent to obliterate every piece of relationship I have with Vincent.
“Can’t you do anything?” I asked.
“Sorry Allister, but you know her. There’s no stopping her.” He said. Of course he can’t do anything! Amanda is the devil in disguise! No one has any power over her! All I can do is hope and pray that it never comes out and it was all a bluff.
“Oh that’s just fucking perfect!” I said exasperatingly.
“I’m really sorry Allister, I shouldn’t have kissed you that night.”
“It’s not your fault, it’s that devil of a sister you have.” And on cue, Vincent had entered kitchen.
“Who are you talking to at this early hour?” He asked as he went straight to the fridge to get some orange juice.
I covered the mic of my phone before answering. “It’s a client, asking if I could make the order.”
He shrugged it off and closed the fridge with the pitcher of orange juice in one hand. He leaned on the island counter and opened the bag of bread.
I got back on the phone with Max. “Allister, where did you go?”
“It’s alright Mrs. Thompson, I’ll call you again if the orders are done.” I lied.
“Who the heck is Mrs. Thompson?” Max said on the other line.
“Vincent is in the room.” I whispered.
“Oh, okay okay. Talk to you later then.” He chuckled.
“Alright, alright. Thank you Mrs. Thompson. Bye.”
“Bye Alli.” He said as I hung up.
I walked to Vinny’s side and huffed.
“Why the long face?” He asked as he munched on a piece of bread.
“It’s just a ton of orders, I don’t know if I could do it in time.” I lied as I rested my head on his shoulder. But hell, that was a lot to take in in this early hour.
“You know Allibear, don’t commit yourself to a thing you are unsure of. In the end, you’ll end up with nothing. The best thing to do in situations like this is accept the fact, that you’re not Superman.” He said as he placed his hands around my waist.
“I’m sure of it, it’s just that it’s a lot to take in.” Fuck. Why does it sound like he knows something?
He just bit his slice of bread before offering it to me. I took a bite of it as well and sipped on his glass of juice.
“Oh, Allibear, Amanda just called and she wanted to have lunch with me. Wanna go with me?” He asked as his eyes met with mine.
I diverted my gaze and looked anywhere than his eyes. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
He nodded and continued eating. “Probably you’re right. She might get suspicious with us and…”
“No I mean going out with her for lunch.” I quickly said.
“Why not? Is my boyfriend getting jealous that I’m spending more time with Amanda?” He asked with amusement as he pinched my cheeks.
I pushed away his hands. “No I’m not. I just think that girl is still up to something. You know, something evil.” I tried to hide the nervousness that I’m feeling.
He ruffled my hair. “Don’t worry Allibear, I have a pocket bible ready just in case she goes coocoo on me.” He said as he tapped his sides even though his pajama pants don’t have any pockets.
“Alright! I guess there’s no use in arguing with you.” I pouted and stood up. I walked out of the room and used my ace in the sleeve. The cold shoulder.
“Hey!” And it’s working. He chased after me and spun me around. “Is this gonna be our issue? Really? Me dating Amanda?” He puffed out air. “That sentence doesn’t even make any sense. I will never fall in love with her or with anyone else Alli.”
I just hummed in response.
“I hope you’re not forgetting our plan, and you’re not just gonna ruin it all by thinking that I’m cheating with Amanda?” He is slowly concealing the anger in his tone.
And the guilt just keeps on eating me alive. “Alright fine, go. I want to spend my rest of my life with you in peace even if it means I have to share you with her for a moment.” I sighed in defeat.
I just hope she doesn’t do anything to ruin us. AS IF!!!
He kissed me on the cheek. “I promised you remember. I’ll be loyal to you.”
“Yeah I know.”
And it’s me who I think can’t hold on to that promise. I mean I can but the temptation is too much. I mean Vincent is great guy, but Max is just so damn irresistible. I truly love Vincent and I won’t trade him for anyone else. I think I just have to fight off every feeling I have with Max.
Damn right I should.
So now that’s decided, I think now would be the best time think of an excuse for that scandalous picture of me and Max.
“Hey Alli! We have a visitor!” Vincent exclaimed with glee. Am I too deep in my thoughts that I didn’t even see him left my side? How long was I thinking? DAAAAMN!
I stood up my chair and w-wait! How was I sitting in the sofa? We were just talking in the middle of the apartment. OMG! I shouldn’t zone out like that.
As I was saying, I stood up and was tackled by long haired creature. And I was correct it was a creature.
“ALLI!!!!” She yelled as she shook me on the ground. “I missed you so much! Since you got hitched I haven’t had much time with you!” Jess ranted and hugged me tightly.
“Was it that long since we last seen each other?” I asked.
“Uhh.. Yeah!” She drawled. “It’s like you didn’t miss me at all.” She pouted as her boobies pressed on my body, which for a guy should be arousing, but for me it’s beyond awkward. So I pushed her off of me.
“I did miss you! I just didn’t think it was that long.” I chuckled awkwardly.
We both pushed ourselves up and dusted our clothes.
“You okay?” She asked as her eyes met with mine.
What’s scary about Jess is that she knows that something is up by just looking at my eyes, a skill which Vincent lacks.
Since Vincent was in the room, I just lied about it. “No, I just received a call from a client earlier. Lack of sleep, I guess.”
“Hmm…” She hummed. “So the reason I was here is because I’ll kidnap you for the whole day to help me buy a dress for my sister’s wedding.” She cheered.
“Really? OMG! Congrats to her!” I said.
“And I told her to invite you as my date.” She patted my back as she walked right pass me.
I gaped at what she said and Vincent was just smirking at me. He was watching us the whole time and it seems he knows about this all along.
“You knew something about this, do you?” I accused him.
“It’s just for the weekend, right Jess?” He asked as he was comfortably seated on the couch.
Speaking of Jess, where did she walk away to?
“Hm-mhm” She agreed as she chewed some cookies while hugging the cookie jar.
I smacked my palm on my forehead. “First you kidnapped me, then you stole and ate my cookies, what’s next, you’ll steal Vinny away too?”
“That’s the plan.” She said with a mouthful of crumbs.
Vincent stood up and walked to me. “C’mon as if I’m gonna let Jess steal me away from you.” He said as he placed his arm over my shoulder and our eyes met.
“Of course, I won’t steal him from you! I’ll make him see your dark side!” Jess said, her brows dancing. “Then I’ll steal him away.”
“Dark side?” He asked
“His dark secrets…” She teased.
I glared at her. Scared of what she knows.
“Just kidding, I don’t know anything you don’t already know.” She told Vincent.
I sighed. Vincent turned to me. I smiled at him. His face never changed its stoic expression. I was about to walk out but he grabbed my arm and pulled me back.
“There’s something you are not telling.”
And here I thought he never notices the hints in my eyes.
Still, I have to lie. “Like Jess was saying, everything she knows about me, you already knew what they are. Besides, you know more things than Jess.”
He’s not buying it.
“Believe what you want Vince, but I’m telling you the truth.” Not really, and I’m sorry.
He just closed his eyes and nodded. His grip on my arms loosened and that’s the only time I walked to the bedroom.
I can’t continue lying in his face.
Jess followed me in and closed the door.
“Spill!” She ordered just as I sat on the edge of my bed.
“Can’t it wait until we’re on our to your sister’s wedding?”
“It can but I’m telling you, you should stop lying to him.”
“I wish I could. The less he knows, the less it would hurt him.”
She huffed. “Whatever you say.”
–
When we were about to go out to shop for Jess’s dress, Vincent wanted to tag along so he joined us to the mall.
He cancelled his date with Amanda, making me sigh in relief.
“So what exactly are you looking for?” I asked.
“A baby pink dress.” She said. Whew! It’s a good thing I have a dress shirt in the same color. “Though I wish my sister just went with the traditional kind of wedding. You know, with serene color of white for the bride and black suit for the groom. But no, she went with a baby pink and lavender motif. Yuck.” She whined.
“Yuck is right. I agree, with keeping it traditional. Simple and true is the way to go in intimate celebrations like this.” Vincent commented.
“Why what does Amanda have in mind?” I asked.
“Purple and white.” He deadpanned.
“Bleck!” Jess and I fake puked.
“That;s not even the worst part. We are both wearing the Purple and the guests are supposed to wear white. It makes me shrivel in disgust.” He said, shuddering.
No offense but we all agree to the simple motif of the traditional weddings. In a church, simple black suits, and only family and a few friends are invited. Well Jess wants to wear a white gown in hers.
Store after store, hours has past and not one dress was bought.
“I really hate shopping!” I whined.
“That explains your dull wardrobe.” She quipped.
I gaped. Vincent chuckled. I slapped his arm.
“My wardrobe is not dull, it’s… its simple and comfortable.”
“Whatever granny.” She retorted. “We have a few stores left to check or else I’ll have to be butt naked on my sister’s wedding.”
“Now that would be one wedding I wouldn’t want to miss.” Vincent said.
“I knew you weren’t gay! You still want boobies!” She cheered.
Vince and I chuckled.
“He’s not. As much as I want him to be he’s bisexual, or more like Alli-sexual.” I told her.
Vince hugged me. “Definitely Alli-sexual.”
“Aww!” Jess cooed as I blushed. “Alright Romeos, let’s get a move on. There is a pink dress with my name on it and we need to find it!” She marched on ahead of us.
“I’m gonna miss you.” He said.
“I’ll be back in after the weekend, and then you’ll have me all to yourself again.” I said as I swirled my finger in his chest.
“I wish I could come with you.”
“I can tell Jess…”
“No. I have to go with all the dinner meetings this weekend with both families. I hate that I have to spend the weekend that way but it’s for the better, right?” He said
“Yes. For the long run.” I agreed.
We were about to kiss when Jess hollered at us.
We just chuckled and followed her.
–
After two stores and forty-three minutes later, but who’s counting; we were finally done.
“FINALLY!” Jess and I groaned.
“So tomorrow is Friday and we have to be there by nightfall tomorrow. We will rest the night before the rehearsal and after rehearsals, there will be a dinner with the family, including you Alli, my honorary brother.”
And yet again, I blushed. “Thanks my honorary sister!”
For those of you don’t know, I’m an only child. Maybe that explains my craving for attention and love. Or maybe I just love being loved. Or I don’t know.
“I still hope that you could come with us Vince.” She smiled, sadly.
“I’ll be there for your wedding, that’s for sure. I just can’t go this time.”
“Oh alright. That’s a promise, okay?” She said. Vincent nodded and smiled.
“We’ll both be there!” I said.
“I have no doubt you’ll be there.” She chuckled. “’cause you’re gonna be my maid of honor.”
I chirped. “Can’t wait!”
–
With all the wedding talks we had during our cups of coffee, we headed home. Jess had her things already packed and brought them to my apartment, where she will sleep for the night. How her bags ended up in my apartment that I don’t know.
With all the distractions that I had today, not once did I remember my problem until Max called me up while we were watching X-men: First Class.
I stood up and answered it. Vincent sent me a questioning look. I told him that I’ll be back in a moment.
I went to the kitchen and talked to Max.
“What is it?”
“It’s Amanda. She’s planning to tell it to Vince this weekend.”
Fuck.
“No.”
“I know Alli. And I’m really sorry.”
“I don’t know what to do. Please try to stop her.”
“I think that would be impossible.”
“I know, but what else could I do.” I brushed a hand through my hair.
“Is everything alright, Allibear?” Vincent said as he entered the kitchen.
“Is that Vincent? Let me talk to him and explain what happened.”
“He won’t listen to you.” I whispered to Max. “It’s fine Vinny. Just another client.”
He hummed in agreement but stayed in the same room as I am.
“I’ll call you back Mr. Caldwell. I’ll be sure to deliver those cookies by Tuesday. Bye.” I said before I hung up and walked to Vincent.
“That’s not a client Alli.”
“It is, stop being nosy about it.”
“Then tell me why would someone call you at 10pm and order a batch of cookies that is for Tuesday.”
“I don’t know why he did what he did, but it was business so I need to comply.” I lied again.
“Let me talk to him.”
“What?!”
“Let me talk to Mr. Caldwell.” He said and gave air quotes as he said the name.
“Why would you do that?”
“Why won’t you let me talk to him?”
“He’s a client and he has more things to do than talking to my jealous boyfriend.” I barked and walked out.
I sat back down the couch where Jess was still watching the movie while munching on some chips.
“You should tell him the truth, you know that?” She asked, eyes glued to the screen.
“I know.”
He came back and sat next to me.
“Alli, I’m sorry.”
“Can we not talk about it?”
“Okay. But I want you to know I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.”
And it stayed that silent as we slept. Well actually, as they slept. I haven’t slept a wink. All the time I spend on thinking a reasonable excuse or at least an alibi, but nothing came in to mind.
–
Morning came and still no answer and no sleep.
“Good morning Allibear.” He greeted as he rubbed his eyes and stretched his feet.
“OW!” Jess yelped.
Oh I forgot to mention that we fell asleep on the living room. The two of us on the couch and, apparently, Jess was on the rug.
Jess sat up and said. “Ready to go, Alli?”
“Yes maam!” I stood up and stretched.
“Alli, are you still mad?” Vincent asked.
I didn’t make a sound. I couldn’t. If I utter another word, it might turn out to be another lie.
Guilt and weariness came over me. And still, there is that question left unanswered.
“What should I do?”
I stood up and readied my stuff.
Jess followed me to my room.
And same as before, I know Vince has a hunch that something is wrong.
“You’re just gonna leave him for two days without telling him what’s wrong?” Jess said as she closed the door.
I, again, sat on the edge of my bed and pulled the small suitcase under my bed. “I’m just gonna let the wounds heal with time.”
“What happened with you two?”
“Nothing. Yet.”
“Yet?” She asked. “What do you mean by that?”
“I wanted to tell him, but I never did an answer came in to mind.”
“Answer? Alli just spit it out. All this word play ain’t gonna take us anywhere.”
She was getting pissed. I feel the same way about myself. I couldn’t even have the courage to tell Jess.
I shut my suitcase shut. “Let’s go. I’ve packed what I needed.”
She huffed. “Don’t come crying to me when this explodes on your face.” She opened the door and left.
I huffed. She’s right. This will explode in my face. But what was I to do? It would still explode even if I did tell him.
–
“We’re leaving now!” Jess said. “See you in two days Vinny!”
He smiled. “I will.” Then he looked at me.
“Bye Vinny.” I told him and looked down at my feet.
“I know that something is wrong.” He said before lifting my chin up. I tried avoiding his gaze but his face was so close to mine. “And I trust you enough to believe that you are doing this to protect us.”
“We have to go now Vinny.” I quickly spun around before he saw the tear that slipped pass my eye. “I love you.”
Jess saw me crying but didn’t say anything about it.
“I love you too, Allibear.”
With that said, it punctured a deeper hole in my heart.
With that said, I left. And I don’t know if I’ll be expecting someone when I get back.
–
After hours of travelling, we arrived at their hometown. Never did I have a sound sleep during the trip. It was either Jess scolding me and forcing me to tell her what was wrong or that it was the guilt stacking up inside my head.
We placed our stuff in Jess’s room and unpacked. We rested for a while until we were called to help in the preparations. Right after that we just freshened and rested again. But it wasn’t that long until the rehearsals started. And right after that was the dinner with the Bride’s family. To think I haven’t had a good night sleep.
“So Allister, I’ve heard from Jess that you are now living with Vincent.” Jess’s mom said.
I choked before I swallowed my food. “Yeah. Everything is going fine with us now. Just don’t tell his dad that.” I joked.
The whole table chuckled except for Jess, who was in that sour mood all this time.
“Jess, is there a problem?” Her mom asked.
She forced herself to smile. “Yep. Just fine as what Allister said.”
I can’t blame her if she’s pissed at me.
“So when do you plan on getting married?” Her sister, Joan, asked.
I was about to answer when Jess butted in. “Not soon, that’s for sure.” She said with raspiness in her tone.
They looked at me with interest, as if they want to know more. Now I know where Jess got her nosiness.
“What she meant is that Vincent and I haven’t talked about getting hitched yet. We wanted to take things slow.” I have to save my ass from the questioning looks of the people in the table.
Jess scoffed while the others were quite contented with what I said.
Dinner went on awkwardly when every time Jess open’s her mouth to answer questions asked to me, I have to save myself or clarify what she said.
After the dinner we finally have time to rest, for tomorrow is gonna be the big day.
One day has passed and yet I still have no courage to tell him what happened.
One day has passed and I haven’t heard from him.
One day has passed and I haven’t called him.
So that’s just what I did. I called him
Ring.
Ring.
Ring.
He answered but he didn’t say a thing.
“Hi Vinny.” I said.
Did he finally found out about it?
“So when were you planning to tell me?” His voice was stern.
He knows.
“I was about to, but I was afraid.”
“If you just told me then, then I could’ve understood. It’s as if you have this secret relationship with him.” He growled. “You made me feel stupid. Making me think of my own monsters. But all of it was true. I wanted to understand that what you did was for me. So that, I don’t even know why but I kept on thinking that maybe it was for us. To make our relationship stronger.”
“This is what I’ve been avoiding. For you to think that I’ve cheated on you.” I said.
“But that’s what happened. I feel so stupid about not beating the crap out of that guy when I caught you guy’s walking that night. I easily got suede by your words. I sacrificed a lot for this relationship and you can’t even help scratch your own itch?” He snarled viciously.
“What happened that night…” I said but he cut me off.
“I don’t want to hear it. I don’t know if you’re even telling the truth anymore.” He said, with voice low as if he had lost hope.
And from there I know that we were through.
“I’m sorry.” I said.
He hung up.
It was so stupid of me to think that he wouldn’t understand if I told him then. But he was so mad when he saw Max and I together just walking. And I thought that if I told him we kissed, though accidentally, he would be furious about it. But it turns out he would listen. And I was too caught up in my own thoughts that I forgot that I could trust him and that he trusted me.
I can’t help but burst out in tears.
“What did I tell you?” Jess appeared beside me and hugged me.
“I’m sorry Jess.”
“It’s fine. But maybe next time, try telling us what happened, instead of keeping it all to yourself.” She said as her hug tightened.
I’m stupid. I know.
I was too sure that he would never find out, but I forgot what my mom told me.
“Lying is like injecting venom in a relationship. And most of the time, there is no anti-venom for some lies.”
Should’ve thought of that one before.
“I should’ve listened to you, Jess.” I said.
“Well, at least you know what to do next time.” She said with a sense of pride.
I rested my head on her plump chest. Not that I was into it, but it was very comforting and it is like a warm embrace.
“You better be gay or Imma slap your brains out.” She said as I realized that I was moving my head in her boobies.
OMG! What am I doing!
I quickly pushed myself away and faked a barf. But really I’m feeling nauseous.
“Serves you right for making my lady lumps as your bed, perv!” She accused jokingly.
I chuckled as tears fell.
Weird, but that’s what happened.
I tried calling him again. And again. And again.
But he was not answering.
I felt like I was falling slowly into a bottomless pit. My stomach was churning, my heart was pounding intensely, and my mind was slowly drifting into faint slumber.
I was just staring blankly at a wall, crying, while thinking about Vincent.
I imagined his enraged eyes staring back at me, his hands balled to a fist, and his tears rushing down his face.
An image I’m too scared to see. An image I’ve created. An image I will soon see.
Jess was with the whole time trying to get a laugh or, at least, a chuckle from me. But as much as I wanted to, sobs is all that I can give.
–
My eyes were red as they can be and it is evident to the guests of the wedding that I’ve cried.
Jess tried placing concealer to try and give my eyes a glow but it didn’t work.
She just told everyone that I was so touched by the bride and groom’s love story. And I just faked a smile at those who looked at me with pity.
After the ceremony was the reception.
“Jess, I don’t want to be a sour puss here while everyone is having fun. I need to see him.” I said as tears were at the edge of my eye.
She sighed. “Would you be fine travelling by yourself?”
“Yes.” I said as tried to smile.
She hugged me. “If he’s not there, call me. I’ll be there in blink of an eye.”
I nodded in response.
“Well. GO!” She ordered.
I got a cab to the airport and booked the first flight back home.
–
I got out the cab and quickly went to my unit. I didn’t care if it was two in the morning. I want to see him.
My heart raced as the seconds passes by. I hastily put my keys in and as I opened the door I called for him.
“Vincent!”
No answer.
I checked every room. And he’s not there.
And when I checked the closet, all his things were gone.
I crumbled right then and there. All because of one lie the truth was blurred. It is as if it was a myth.
My phone buzzed and I answered it.
“Is he there?” Jess said.
I took a deep breath and heaved a sigh before telling her. “No.”
“I’ll be there right away.” She said as she hung up.
I dropped my phone on the floor as I hugged my knees and bawled like a child.
I know he wouldn’t wait for me to comeback. But I never expected that it would hurt this much.
My phone buzzed yet again.
This time it was only a message.
It was from an anonymous number.
“I told you that you two were never meant to be. Too bad you have to find out about it this way. Then again, I don’t feel sorry for you. In fact I just texted you to rub it in your face that I won. Toodles! xoxo”
I clenched my fist and threw my phone across the room.
I was so angry.
At Max.
At Amanda.
At myself.
I guess things happen for a reason and I just have to accept it as it is.
But it’s too hard to accept it especially if you lose someone over something as stupid as lying.
I should face the fact that this would now be the life I have to live.
Without Vincent.
