Prologue:
Jaehyo’s POV:
They say polar opposites attract. The magnet clings to the metal, if you pull the magnet away, the metal is always there to pull it back. No matter the circumstance, the rivalry, the differences, love will always, above anything, win. Of course, in the case of these two love birds love won, but in disguise.
Their love hasn’t always been in prosper. A couple months back they were just mere rivals in disguise: total strangers. Jaeyho and Zico are rivals, their gangs hate each other. Both know it and don’t know it. Both of these boys hate their perspective gang. But they don’t hate each other because they both haven’t told each other that they are in a gang.
In their old town home, gangs rule. There is small ones, large ones, dangerous ones, not so dangerous and the list goes on. The two biggest gangs in the town are Black Dragon and Red Tiger. These two gangs are always up in each others’ ass. One is always trying to become better than the other one. Not for the money, not for who has better skills in fighting but for power. They try to out run whatever the other has done. Who ever has more power has the most respect of the other gangs. The gang that has more power is not messed with and can do whatever the fuck they want with other gangs.
Jaehyo and Zico both know that this power is essential in their lives. Not only for their egos, but for the respect of their gang members as well. If a gang member doesn’t respect you or wants to challenge you because you don’t have the right techniques, the right problem solving solutions or you can’t lead a gang then that can leave you with no respect at all. It is important to always have the respect of others and have your mind on other missions. If not you are not fit to be in a gang.
The most important thing to have in mind when you are in a gang is: girls or dating to make it more precise. Dating a girl or anyone who a gang member wants to date (although dating someone your own gender is a little taboo in gangs) who are related to the other gang or who is from a gang who has little respect is prohibited. This can cost you to get kicked out (not before getting beat up) or killed depending on how long the relationship has gone or if you have impregnated someone or have gotten married. Being gay in some gangs is forbidden.
If you come out as gay or you are caught with someone else (especially of the rival gang) you are immediately punished or killed, whatever the leader seems best for the consequence. For Jaehyo that is one of his biggest fears. That he might get his lover killed or himself shunned without the respect of his members who he has shared most of his life with.
All his worries started when his secret sexuality came up in the open when he met Zico back at their favorite bar 10 months ago. That day was like any ordinary day for the Black Dragon gang. He was the leader and a very popular person among the people of the town. The gang was a really a threat to the community citizens. His beef was with Red Tiger whom he despises and with gangs that disrespect him and his members. Him along with his gang members, Minhyuk, Yoo Kwon and Jihoon were at the bar relaxing themselves into booze and munching on peanuts.
Earlier in the day they had fought once again with Red Tiger. Jaehyo’s main priority in the team was to always defeat Red Tiger, most importantly their leader. Since he didn’t know how the leader looked like, he always found a way to recognize him without having to know how he exactly looked. Red Tiger’s body language was always aggressive, always ready to fight. There wasn’t any hesitation or small talk when it came to fighting. It was attack and hope they win.
That day he was extremely exhausted. Jaehyo was apart from the others, right in the middle of the bar, his ass sat high up in the stool. He was sort of short but he didn’t let his members remind him of that. No one made fun of him.
The night was getting darker and people were getting drunker. The voices around him were getting distant, his mind focused on his tired muscles. Although he could not here the voices mingling behind him, he could still play out the conversation that his cousin, Jihoon was having with his lady friend. Jihoon had hooked up with the girl a few weeks back and although they have never met in the daylight, and possibly not know their fully names entirely, his cousin would always find time to take her back to mess around with her before sunrise appeared.
The smug on Jaehyo’s face had plastered in his face, creeping without consent. He did not intent to smile at his cousin’s stupid decisions in his love life. He was just amazed how despite hooking up with the girl, he still did not know her name. He was effortless, careless, and really didn’t give a damn about anyone, well except the gang, of course. It even surprised him that the girl didn’t give two shits either. She probably doesn’t know his last name either.
‘Ahh, the gang.’ Jaehyo says drunkely, sipping the last liquid substance in his glass. He then with a smug smile remembers that he ,too, should be getting laid but how can he when he can’t get laid with someone he can’t have. As a leader, being gay has its disadvantages. He can’t secretly meet someone who is the same gender as him. Everyone knows him and if he ever gets caught with someone, that would be the end of his perfect reputation, nonetheless, the admiration of his gang members.
The frustration was very vivid and real. He wanted to be with someone where he can confide with but who? All his members don’t ever tell him their problems so how can he tell them his problems . That would be weird and totally disturbing for his members. A boyfriend would totally helped him with his stress and sexual desires.
‘My reputation is more important than what I want.’ He lays his head down, his hand still on the glass. Jaeyho is debating whether he wants another glass or if he should just leave. Five glasses of scotch are not enough to drown his sorrows. He can still feel his heart ache, he can feel his despair stuck on his throat, no alcohol can chug it down.
“Not a good day? Huh? The feelings of despair always ruin my mood. Scotch, please,” the voice says, waking Jaehyo from his quick slumber.
“What?” The voice seemed kind of arrogant but it worked for him, it was his soothing lullaby. With his mouth dry and need of another scotch, he looks up, struggling to end the soreness of his muscles.
“Are you really that drunk?” The guy says in a chuckle. “It’s not even midnight.”
“Fucking migraine,” he mutters under his breath, ignoring what the guy said. So what if he was drunk. That was the only way to forget about his day which by the way wasn’t working today. Jaehyo’s pounding headache was strong and he can feel the air become weird and the atmosphere delusional. All around him people were blurry and distorted, their bodies twirling for his amusement.
He turns around to face the guy but all he sees is blurriness; the only thing he sees is patches of blonde. Jaehyo blinks his eyes and then rubs them. This action worked a little since he can make sense of how the guy looks like now.
“Another Scotch, please,” he says, almost yelling, scratching his raspy throat in the process.
“Woah, woah, there. Calm down. We don’t need to be wasted until you black out. Water instead.” Jaehyo frowns at the guy. What is his problem? If he wants to black out that is his problem. What is he trying to do? Act like he’s god or something. Is he going to feel like he’s a good person just for saving his ass today?
“I don’t need you care for me. You’re a fucking stranger, weird guy.” Jaehyo hiccups, already realizing his words are mixing with each other which means he is totally, beyond drunk.
“An a weird guy who is nice enough to stop you from making a mistake. Some people in this club are monsters and they just wait to see the first fallen victim of alcohol to do their dirty needs. You’ll thank me later,” the guy says with a sense of pride.
‘You’ll thank me later,’ Jaehyo mocks in his head, wobbling his head furiously. At this point, he was more mad, he was angry. Seriously, who is this guy? He just wanted to forget who he was, his pitiful cries of not being able to have a guy he could cuddle and sex with.
He’s been hiding his sexuality ever since he was young. Even if he wasn’t the leader, he still couldn’t be with a guy because of the fucking laws that the gangs made. Why does it fucking matter if he likes someone his own gender? What the fuck is that going yo ruin? Their egos? Is not their fucking problem?
He was, and is, so angry. Angry that he can’t choose anyone he loves. Angry that they are taking his right away. Angry that he’s a leader. If he had known that being a leader would have more consequences than benefits, he would of given his position to his cousin, Jihoon. He sure is better at handling his emotions than he is.
Slumping more on his seat, Jaehyo pouts. The glass was out of his reach and he was slowly coming out of his drunken state. His scotch was replaced with a water bottle. The bottle was in front of him, right next to his fingertips.
Jaehyo snatched the water bottle and angrily opened the cap to take a sip. Since he couldn’t drink alcohol anymore and his opportunity to forget about his worry was slowly fading away, then there was no reason why he shouldn’t drink the water.
Yelling made him sober up a little and he wasn’t so sad as he was before. His energy was slowly going up and the thirst in his throat was threatening his ego to drink the water despite him not wanting to; he wasn’t just gonna let the stranger win.
So he takes a long chug almost emptying the bottle. “That felt better,” he says, his voice sounding gravelly.
“So what’s your name?” The stranger guy says, his hand on the glass of scotch, half empty, the bottle next to him.
Jaehyo raises his eyebrow at his hypocrisy. He tells him that he shouldn’t drink anymore scotch but he has the entire bottle next to him, pouring him exactly more times the amount of scotch than what he drank.
“Jae…” His name is abruptly stopped, unabling him to continue. He turns around to see Jihoon next to him, “Gotta go, cous.” The lady is still with him and she looks more of a mess than she was when he left them in the beginning. Her face was puffy and there was lipstick smudges in the corner of her lips.
“I gotta go. Thanks for the water bottle. Maybe we’ll see each other again. What’s yours?” Jaehyo jumps from the stool and grabs his keys from the bar table.
“Zico.”
Jaehyo gasps quietly,”Red Tiger.” He’s from rival gang. Without saying anything, he nervously nods at him an trails after his cousin, his lady and the rest of the gang members.
“Why have I fallen into you?”
