“You found me a guy?” Sammy asked while giving Lea a strange look. “What are you talking about?”
“He’s perfect!” Lea said while flopping down onto Sammy’s bed with a heavy sigh. “He’s this new guy that just transferred here from Oregon. He’s tall dark and handsome and his name is Xander.”
Biting his bottom lip Sammy looked down at his hands while asking, “So how do you know him?”
“He’s in my Chemistry class. And lord is he attractive or what. Anyway I started talking to him and of course asked if he was single and he said yes, but that he wasn’t for my team. So I said that I had the perfect guy in store.”
“Lea, do you really think this is a good idea?”
“It’s a great idea. You need to trust me; this will be the way that you can get over Evan.”
Staring down at his hands Sammy sighed before saying, “Fine.”
He then watched as Lea happily clapped before instantly getting onto her phone. Glancing up at the ceiling he sighed before snuggling up under his blankets, hoping he was doing the right thing.
*
“Xander, over here!”
Looking up Sammy stopped putting things away in his locker to turn around. His jaw dropped when he saw an extremely attractive guy walking towards them. He had dark curly hair with fierce dark eyes as well as slight facial hair. “Lea,” he frantically whispered while pulling on her sleeve.
“What?” She asked while looking over at him.
“This is the guy?”
“Yeah, why?”
“He’s too attractive for me.”
“Oh stop,” she said while slapping him on the back of the head, making him grumble.
When the mysterious Xander walked up to them, Sammy felt very light headed. This guy was ridiculously attractive, what was Lea thinking? “Xander, this is my best friend Sammy.”
Sammy watched as Xander turned towards him with a gorgeous smile while saying, “Hello,” with a very strong Indian accent.
“Hi,” Sammy squeaked while feeling his face grow very hot.
“I will see you around okay?” Xander said while smiling at both of them while the bell rang above them.
Sammy watched him walk down the hallway, not being able to keep his eyes off that ass. When he was out of sight he slapped Lea on the arm while saying, “What is wrong with you? You can’t just spring an extremely attractive man on me! God did you see him?”
“I did, and I see him now. He’s right behind you,” she said with a smirk.
Feeling his face heat up, Sammy slowly turned around to see Xander smiling down at him. Let me die, he thought while looking at that smiling face. “I’m sorry; I forgot something in my locker.”
Burying his face into his hands, Sammy tried to tune out the slight laughter of his best friend while wanting to die at the same time. Before he could wallow even more he suddenly felt a hand being placed onto the small of his back while he heard, “You’re extremely attractive too.”
Looking up he saw Xander give him one last smile before he disappeared back down the hallway.
“Oh my god,” he groaned while he heard,
“You know you love me.”
Glancing up at her he nodded before chasing her down the hallway. Both laughing, they ended up running into their next class, happy and giggling.
*
After walking towards his locker, Sammy gave a soft yawn while taking out the books for his next class. Just as he brought his books into his hands, he was suddenly being shoved hard from behind. Turning around he saw Sasha flipping him off. Sighing, he slowly picked his books back up before he felt a hand being placed onto the small of his back.
Turning around he saw Xander standing behind him, looking excellent in his leather jacket and tight pants. “Hey.”
“Hi,” Sammy said while not being able to keep the smile off of his face.
From the corner of his eye he suddenly saw Evan storming off down the hallway as the bell rang. What was that about? Deciding not to let it bother him, he shook his head while turning back towards Xander, and to see Lea walk up to them as well.
When walking towards his next class, he couldn’t get the image of the frazzled looking Evan out of his mind. What was wrong? No, stop thinking about him. He’s the person who made you cry last night. Stop.
Walking into their Stats class, they all sat down while Lea asked, “You guys want to hang out tonight?”
“I can’t, you know that. I tutor every night.”
“Can’t you just skip it, please?” Lea asked while giving him puppy dog eyes.
“No,” he said which made her roll her eyes before turning towards the front of the room.
When the teacher started talking, Sammy glanced over to his right to see Evan’s seat empty. Even though he had said he needed to get over the gorgeous football player, however that was easier said than done.
**
Walking up to the large front door in front of him, Sammy took a deep breath before softly knocking. When the door opened he saw Evan’s mom smiling back at him. “Oh Sammy, hello. How are you doing dear?”
“I’m doing alright, how are you?” He asked while stepping through the front door.
“I am doing very well. Evan is actually upstairs in his room. It’s up the stairs and to the right, or if you want me to show you.”
“I’m sure I can find it, thank you very much.”
With that he gave her one last smile before walking up the stairs. Turning towards the right he saw one door half open. Softly knocking onto the door he opened the door to see Evan sitting on his bed. “Hi, your mom told me you were up here.”
He watched Evan look up at him for a split second before instantly looking down. Okay, Sammy thought while taking his Stats book out of his book bag. “We left off on Chapter 14 correct?”
When he was returned with silence he looked up to see Evan staring down at his phone. “Okay well I think that’s where we left off. Was there one specific thing that you’re having a problem with for this chapter?”
Once again he was met with silence. Glancing up he angrily said, “Is there a problem?”
“I don’t know, is there?” Evan asked.
“I’ll just take your snarkyness as you having a bad day. I guess I’ll just go.”
“Yeah, you should go,” Evan angrily said while looking at him.
That comment hurt more than it should have, making Sammy’s eyes start to tear up. Shoving his Stats book back into his bag he wiped the tears that had escaped off his cheeks while walking towards the door.
“Sammy,” he suddenly heard from behind him. He then felt a hand being placed onto his shoulder. He desperately tried to hide his face, not wanting to show how much those words had hurt him. “I’m sorry, I’m an idiot for getting mad at you, you did nothing wrong.”
He then felt as Evan gently started turning his body around. When he was facing him he watched as Evan wiped the tears away off of his cheeks. “I’m just having a rough day; it shouldn’t have been taken out on you. Please, forgive me.”
Looking away from him, Sammy backed away from him while wiping his cheeks. “Let’s just talk about Chapter 14.” With that he sat down onto the floor while bringing his book back out of his bag. He watched as Evan sat down next to him on the floor. Wiping his cheeks one more time he flipped through the book before he started to talk about the chapter, hating how his voice was cracking, hating how his heart could not stop beating.
When he was finished explaining the chapter he took a deep breath while he placed his book back into his bag. He then glanced over at Evan when he said, “I have a game tomorrow night, so we wouldn’t be able to meet at our normal time. Our game typically ends around 10; we can just meet on Monday. If you want.”
Before he was able to think about what he was saying he opened his mouth to say, “I’ll come over after the game.”
“I’d like that,” Evan whispered before clearing his throat and standing up.
Feeling his face heat up, Sammy stood up as well while biting his lip. “I’ll walk you out,” Evan said while smiling down at him. As they walked towards the front door, Sammy watched as Evan opened the door and instantly gasped. Standing on the other side of door was none other Maci herself.
Sammy watched as Evan pulled his body behind the door, his arm wrapped around his body. His breathing was coming out raged as he felt Evan’s arm tighten around his waist. “Maci, what are you doing here?”
“What, are you not excited to see me?”
“Of course I am, it’s just… I’m actually going to bed.”
“Well then why did you open the door?” Maci’s snarky voice asked from the other side of the door.
Not being able to calm his breathing, Sammy rested his head against Evan’s arm, masking his heavy breathing into the fabric beneath him. “I thought I left my phone in my car. I’m just tired.”
“When did you get so boring? At least let kiss me.”
“I think I’m coming down with a cold, I don’t want to get you sick,” Evan said while coughing for dramatic effect.
“Douche,” Maci muttered before stomping off.
When Evan quickly shut the door he sighed while saying, “God she always pops up out of nowhere.”
Lifting his head off of Evan’s arm, Sammy looked up to see those brown eyes looking down at him. Those eyes, how could someone have such mesmerizing eyes? He couldn’t take his eyes off his him until he heard, “Oh Sammy good, you’re still here.” Glancing up he saw Evan’s mom walk towards them, holding a tin in her hands.
He felt his face heat up when she glanced down at the arm Evan still had around him. Quickly stepping back he smiled at her while saying, “I was just about to leave.”
“To say thank you for putting up with my crazy son, I made you some cookies and fudge.”
“Wow thank you so much,” he said while feeling his heart beat a little faster when remembering the way his mom used to bake cookies for him. “You didn’t have to go through all of that trouble.”
“Oh it was no trouble at all,” she said with a warm smile.
Taking the tin into his hands he gave her another smile, wishing he was able to hug her. “Thank you again.”
“No problem honey! It’s great that you’re actually putting up with my son,” she said while pinching Evan’s cheeks making him roll his eyes and groan,
“Mom, stop.”
“Yeah, yeah,” she said while smiling. “Goodnight Sammy, I’m sure I’ll be seeing you sometime soon.”
“Goodnight,” he said while giving a little wave while Evan opened the door.
Walking out towards his truck, he opened his door while opening the tin. “Want a cookie?” He asked while looking down at the multiple different cookies as well as fudge. “Ooo this one looks good, oh yum this one looks good too,” he said while picking up a peanut butter cookie and putting it into his mouth. Holding the tin out he held it up to Evan, scrunching his eyebrows when he saw him smiling. “What?” He asked with a mouth full of cookie.
“Nothing. I’ll see you tomorrow right?”
“Yeah, I can come over after the game.” After swallowing his cookie he glanced up into those brown eyes again while leaning against his truck. “Are you sure you don’t want a bite of this cookie? It’s really good.”
Before he let him respond, Sammy stood up on his tip toes while shoving a sugar cookie into his mouth. He laughed while Evan laughed as well as he felt arms being wrapped around his waist. “Isn’t it delicious?” He asked in between giggles while raindrops were suddenly falling from the sky.
“So delicious!” Evan said while suddenly picking Sammy up, making him yelp as he wrapped his arms around his neck.
As they were laughing in the rain, all of the sadness Sammy had felt the previous days was gone. He forgot about the time that Evan made him cry, he forgot about the numerous times he had to watch Maci hang all over Evan. The only thing that he focused on was the smiling boy in front of him, knowing that this is the closest they will ever be.
While he was still in Evan’s arms a car was suddenly slowing down by them. Turning to the side Sammy’s eyes widened when he saw Sasha staring them down. “Oh god,” he whispered while looking at his brother through wet eyes.
“What’s wrong?” Evan asked while turning to see Sasha as well.
“Well, well, well,” Sasha said while looking at them. “So this is who you’ve been doing in your free time.”
Getting out of Evan’s arms, Sammy felt his hands start to violently shake while saying, “No Sasha, you don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve been tutoring Evan in Stats.”
“Is that what you call fooling around?” Sasha asked while looking at them with disgust.
“No! What are you talking about?” Sammy yelled while watching Sasha get out of his car and stalk towards him. He watched in fear as Sasha shoved him, hard.
“Hey!” Evan yelled while standing in front of Sammy.
“Of how cute, the football player is protecting his little boyfriend.”
“What is your problem?” Evan yelled while Sammy hid behind his body from his angry brother.
“Huh, I wonder what it could be?” Sasha asked while crossing his arms over his chest. “Maybe it’s the fact that my twin brother is sucking dicks behind everyone’s backs?”
“Stop!” Sammy yelled the same time Evan yelled,
“Shut up!”
When Sammy had had enough of his brother he lunged forward, however was stopped short when a fist was suddenly colliding into his face. Falling backwards he held his face while feeling Evan wrap his arms around him, to keep him from falling onto the ground. Looking up through tear stained eyes he saw Sasha shaking his head while laughing as he got back into his car.
As he drove away Sammy started crying uncontrollably, his hands shaking violently. “Are you okay?” Evan whispered while looking down at him.
Ignoring him he simply stood up and started to open the door on his truck once again. “Sammy, stop,” Evan firmly said while turning him towards his body. “Shit,” Evan said while gently touching his eye. “You’re staying here tonight.”
“What are you stupid?” Sammy yelled while shoving his wet hair out of his face while the rain seemed to come down harder. “My brother just punched me in the face! He never knew that I’m gay, no one besides Lea knew!” He yelled while watching Evan’s eyes grow wide. “Shit. Well there you go, I’m gay, happy? Now everyone will know.”
Putting his head into his hands he silently cried while sinking down onto the wet ground. “No one will talk to me again,” Sammy silently sobbed while he felt Evan sit down next to him on the ground, before picking him up into his arms.
“Yes they will, don’t worry,” Evan whispered while grabbing the cookie tin and walking towards his house. “You’re no different just because you like guys more than girls. But I need you to stay here tonight, Sasha won’t hurt you here.”
When he opened his eyes once again, Sammy saw he was sitting on Evan’s bed. Wiping his eyes he looked up to see Evan holding out a pair of clothes to him. Looking at the clothes he felt his cheeks start to heat up while thinking, tonight will be interesting.
