Sammy
Fiercely rubbing his eyes, Sammy continued to ignore Evan, still not believing that he was actually going to spend the night. “Ow,” he angrily whispered when he rubbed his eye too hard, momentarily forgetting about the black eye on his face.
“Here, let me.” Looking up he saw Evan walking over to him before sitting down onto the bed in front of him. He watched as Evan gently touched a wet towel to his eye, making him wince and close his eyes. “I’m sorry if I’m hurting you.”
Slowly opening his eyes he saw dark brown ones staring back at him. Frowning he quickly looked back down at the blanket around his legs, hating the way his heart was beating out of control. “If you want to take a shower you can,” Evan suggested while standing up and grabbing a pair of clothes.
“Thanks,” Sammy mumbled while taking the clothes and wandering into the bathroom. Turning on the shower, he sighed while leaning against the door. When his heart had finally returned to normal he stepped into the shower, closing his eyes when the warm water hit his skin.
After getting out of the shower he dried himself off before slipping on the clothes Evan had given him. When he looked at himself in the mirror he bit his lip while taking in the large clothes on his body. Lifting his arm up to his nose he inhaled a deep breath, happily sighing when the smell of his favorite football player filled his nose.
Walking out into the room he awkwardly held his clothes in his hands while biting his bottom lip. When Evan looked up he watched him jump up from the bed while saying, “You’re welcome to stay in my bed for the night, I wouldn’t want a guest sleeping on the couch.”
“No, that’s okay. I don’t want you to have to sleep on the couch.”
“Sammy, you’re not sleeping on the couch. Okay?” Evan asked while raising an eyebrow.
“Okay,” Sammy quietly said while taking a glance over at the large bed.
Putting his clothes into his book bag he wrapped his arms around himself while he heard Evan say, “I’ll be downstairs if you need anything okay?”
Nodding, he watched Evan slowly walk out of the room. When he was gone Sammy finally let the tears he had been holding in for a while finally escape. Crawling under the comfortable blankets he cried into the pillow, crying more when his eye started to hurt more.
Why did Sasha have to hate him so much? He was terrified to go to school, terrified because he had no idea what Sasha had planned. What if he told everyone, what if everyone made fun of him? Also what if people started treating Evan differently?
Sammy started crying more when thunder was suddenly booming from outside, making him shake in fear. Thunderstorms had always scared him, ever since he was little. When him and Sasha were 9, Sasha had made a bet with him that he wouldn’t be able to spend ten minutes outside in a storm. Of course he had tried, and of course he was terrified being outside. Sammy remembered the way he ran back inside, crying over to his mother.
He also remembered the day his mother died. Sitting next to her body, he remembered the way she smiled at him one last time. He remembered the horrible storm that was going on outside, as well as the horrible storm going on inside of his mind. He would never remember the way that lightning started striking right outside of the hospital window, the moment that his mother took her final breath.
Snuggling up deeper into his pillow Sammy cried harder, hating everything that had happened to him today. When thunder boomed right outside his window, he whimpered while pulling the blanket up over his head. Please let me get through this night, he thought while closing his eyes tighter.
Evan
Running his hand over his face, Evan sighed while blankly staring at the TV in front of him. Today had definitely been the weirdest day of his life, and the most stressful. He couldn’t believe that Sasha had actually punched Sammy, what was that guy’s problem?
When lightning was suddenly brightening up the room he glanced out the window to see heavy rain falling. Leaning his head back against the back of the couch, he slowly closed his eyes while starting to drift off to sleep. Before he could slip into a deep sleep his eyes instantly opened when he heard, “Evan?”
Looking up he saw a shaking Sammy walking into the living room, bundled up into a blanket. “Are you okay?” Evan asked while sitting up and taking in Sammy’s tear stained face.
“Can I just sit next to you for a little bit?”
“Of course.”
He watched as Sammy quickly walked over to him and sat down onto the couch. His small body was still shaking next to him, especially when a boom of thunder loudly entered the room. “Ah,” Sammy all but yelled while jumping.
“Hey come here, it’s okay,” Evan whispered while putting his arm around Sammy’s shaking body before pulling him closer towards his body.
“No, it’s not,” Sammy cried while burying his face into Evan’s chest. “Nothing is okay. Nothing.”
“Yes, it is,” Evan whispered while running his hand up and down Sammy’s back. “And I’m not just saying that.”
When Sammy started to cry again Evan wrapped his arm tighter around his small body. Pulling the blanket closer around Sammy’s body, he gently rested his head on top of Sammy’s. “Shh, you’re okay.”
Closing his eyes he stayed in that position until he heard the deep breathing of Sammy. When he was sure he was asleep Evan slowly stood up and carefully lifted that small body into his arms. After climbing up the stairs he gently set Sammy down onto his bed, making sure to cover him with a blanket. Sitting on the edge of his bed, he watched Sammy sleep for a few minutes, not being able to think about the way he looked in his clothes.
When he was about to get up he suddenly watched Sammy start to whimper when more thunder was heard from outside. Biting his lip, Evan looked at his body before slowly climbing underneath the blanket with him. Wrapping his arms tightly around him, he sighed when he felt Sammy snuggle closer to him, and stop whimpering. When he knew that Sammy was sleeping soundly, Evan was finally able to drift off to sleep.
*
Opening his eyes Evan looked down to see Sammy sleeping peacefully next to him. Slowly getting up, he stretched before sleepily walking into his bathroom. After he took a shower he walked back into his room to see a tired Sammy sitting on his bed, wiping his sleepy eyes. “Morning,” Evan said while giving him a small smile.
“Morning,” Sammy whispered. “Do you still want me to come over after the game tonight?”
“I’d like that.”
He watched as a small smile spread onto Sammy’s face, something that made him feel so good inside.
**
“Dude, are you okay?” Looking up Evan saw Teddy looking at him a weird way. Why is he looking at me like that? He thought before looking up and realizing they were on the field. He had zoned out for a very long time. Well that’s not good.
Shaking his head he breathlessly said, “Yeah I’m fine.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah. Let’s just go.” With that he forced himself to focus on the game going on in front of him.
For some reason he could not get Sammy out of his mind, which was causing him to not maintain focus on the game. He had been up most of the night, not being able to sleep with Sammy next to him. Never had he ever slept so closely next to another man before, and never had he imagined that he would have enjoyed it so much.
Luckily during the school day he never saw Sasha try to do anything to his little brother. Speaking of little brother he looked to his right to see Sammy sitting next to Lea in the stands, both laughing hysterically. “Evan!” Looking up he saw a ball come flying towards him, groaning when he caught it and landed hard onto his back.
“Gah,” he said when another player landed on top of him.
“God Evan, what happened?” He heard Teddy ask while helping him stand up.
“Just off my game today,” Evan said while taking another glance at the crowd.
“I wonder why,” Teddy said while walking away.
When the game was finally over he made his way to the locker room. After changing he walked out with Teddy, not paying attention to his story while his eyes were looking for another certain pair of eyes. When he found them he smiled while walking over to him.
“Hey,” he said while smiling down at Sammy.
“Hi,” Sammy said while giving a small smile as he bit his lip.
They stayed silent for a while simply looking at each other before he heard Lea ask, “Anyone else feel out of place?”
“I feel ya sister,” Teddy said while sticking a piece of gum into his mouth. “What do you say we let these guys ogle at each other? Coffee? I’ll buy.”
“Make it an iced coffee and you got yourself a deal,” Lea said while smiling brightly before giving Sammy a giant hug. “Call me if you need to okay? Love you sexy,” she said while kissing his cheek. Why did that simple action tug at his heart strings so much?
“Love you too,” Sammy quietly said while watching Lea walk off with Teddy.
“Ready to go?” Evan asked while motioning towards his car. He had told Sammy it would be silly if they both drove to school. He would never tell him how much he wanted to spend more time with him. That’s not a weird thought… is it?
“Yeah,” Sammy quietly said while smiling, his black eye shining in the moonlight.
“Let’s go study some Stats,” Evan said with a smile.
Once in the car he got settled before his phone started ringing. Looking down he sighed while seeing Maci’s number pop up. “Hey,” he said while pulling out of the parking lot.
“Hey babe, I’m on my way over.”
“Maci, tonight isn’t really a good night.”
“Don’t be ridiculous, I’m pulling up into your driveway. Also I’m not wearing anything under my clothes. Think about that.”
With that she hung up, making him sigh while tossing his phone into his backseat. “Let me guess, your girlfriend is coming over?” Sammy quietly asked.
“Yeah, but I can tell her to leave so we can stu-”
“No, I don’t want to get in the way of you and your girlfriend. I’ll just see you on Monday.”
As he pulled up into his driveway, Evan frowned while seeing Maci’s car. “I’ll also wait here until you guys go inside.”
“Sammy I-”
“It’s okay,” Sammy said while giving a small smile. “I’ll see you tomorrow. Have a nice night.”
Staring at the quiet person sitting next to him, Evan continued to frown. Usually he would get instantly hard if Maci told him she wasn’t wearing anything underneath her clothes. However that didn’t seem to matter to him tonight. The only thing that seemed to matter was the fact that he actually wanted to spend time with Sammy than with his own girlfriend. This isn’t right, why was he thinking this way?
He watched Sammy smile again while he started to duck down against the seat. Before he was able to lower himself completely, Evan put his hand on Sammy’s hand, shocking them both. However what shocked them even more was when he leaned over and gently kissed Sammy’s cheek. Nervously sighing he quickly got out of his car and entered his house, ignoring Maci’s high pitched.
Running up the stairs he flung open his bedroom door before flinging his body down onto his bed. Why… why did he just kiss another man on the cheek? What was his problem? Screaming into his pillow he buried himself under his blankets, not understanding his life anymore.
