Cadis was missing that day and Talon was grimly reminded of his drastic change in his health. It was Cadis who was dying physically but Talon died too. Mentally
He knew he was at the hospital yet again. Kevin tapped his back with his pen and Talon turned around to look at him. They had chemistry and were at the lab
Kevin chewed at the cap of the pen and mumbled
“Why the sour face ?”
“Nothing much…”
“Then why are you like that?”
“Like what?”
“Quiet, pale”
“Aren’t I always that way?”
Kevin frowned. His gaze dropped at the rolled up sleeves of Talons khaki jacket and saw white thick and thin lines at the bottom oh his wrists
Talon turned around and focused on studying. Or at least tried. Kevin sighed and nudged his friends shoulder
“Wanna hang out after school today with Eddie?”
Talon thought about it. He shrugged his bony shoulders “why not”
“Great”
Said Kevin with a giddy smile playing on his lips. Talon smiled a bit too.a small barely there smile
He tugged at the knitted grey scarf and took in a deep breath of Cadis scent closing his eyes. It was oddly cold that day
The bell rang and Kevin shot up from his seat. He strode towards Talon and yanked him up from his elbow “up we go flower boy” Talon barely managed to grab his back pack as he followed Kevin in a clumsy attempt to match his pace
They went to Eddies class who was currently busy listening to music through his headphones and got hold of him
Kevin smacked his arm and Eddie jolted turning around to meet the two.he slid down his headphones
“Hey Talon. Long time no see”
Talon nod with a small smile.
“So the guy decided to come hang out with us today”
Kevin said getting straight to the point
“Really?”
Eddie remarked with a big grin on his face “that’s awesome. We thought of going to the skate park down the white tower”
Talon cocked a brow
“White tower?”
“It’s a few stops from here with the bus. You know the white tower by the sea? There’s a skate park in that area”
The sea
Thought Talon. And he nodded
“Sounds great”
They left school in a rush and went straight to the bus station Eddie a few steps ahead as he smoothly rolled down with his skate
Kevin stood close to Talon
“So how’s your new company?”
Kevin Kent to say it kindly. It came out bitter
“Max and Cadis? They are great”
Whispered Talon. Kevin frowned. He didn’t like that. But what could he do about that? Nothing
“Cool”
He bitterly said yet again. But he thought about it. And eventually he smiled letting a sigh escape his lips
“Cool”
He said with ease now and Talon smiled at him.
In that moment he came to realize that eventually, they all were changing slowly. Kevin letting go of his hate to Cadis
Max opening up slowly to them
Him finding what it was to have friends and to really connect
And Cadis…realizing what it is to be alive

He held the brush with shaking hands and tried his best. But he couldn’t do it. His hands weren’t steady. So he tried to make the drawing in a different style relying heavily on the outlined base that was drawn with charcoal
He grabbed his Fix and sprayed it over the carton letting it soak and dry the coal so that it wouldn’t fall off. He grabbed his brush again and started painting
His lips were parted and he was breathing slowly. His eyes open and his brows tilted up as he tried to catch Talons expression and colors in his painting
He was making a gift for him. A gift that wouldn’t get erased by time. Something to remind Talon of their time together.
He spent his whole morning like that. After the usual check up at the hospital he kept painting. And his parents worried walked in his room to check on him. At first he was mad at his mother
But then he tried to see her. To look at her clearly. And she saw her sagged shoulders and evident hunch that was forming from working overtime
At the dark circles beneath her beautiful eyes and he felt bad. For not realizing that all she did was care for him.
She sat at his bed. She timidly asked him a few questions and he started a conversation. He told her about Talon and she smiled.
He told her about how he was reminded of the times with his Uncle at the ocean. And she started laughing as they reminisced his heavy accent and colorful attire. The bad jokes he cracked and how they always enjoyed his company
He told her about that girl Max he always avoided letting his mother know who she was. He told her she was changing. She was opening up to people. She accepted others warmth.
Then they were left looking at each other with a smile. She got up and they hugged. He wrapped his arms around her weakly
“Mum I love you”
Was all he said. She was silent. But when he felt his shirt slowly soak on his shoulder he knew his answer
She loved him too. And she would grieve for him
When night came Talon send a text to Cadis telling him there was something he wanted to show him.
Cadis agreed for them to meet next Saturday.
Talon smiled to himself. He would show Cadis the ocean one last time.
