“Is this necessary?”
Cadis groaned as Talon dragged him through the busy streets of the city
“Absolutely”
“Look I’m fine with not knowing how to skate”
Talon stopped dead in his tracks and looked at Cadis
“You mean to say you are ok to die and not have tried like anything?”
“My stamina is bad as it is…”
He mumbled and Talon simply shrugged and kept walking
“You will like this”
He insisted.
It’s been a week and two days since Cadis told everyone about his health condition. He knew it would lead to this since the age of 12. He had to visit doctors pretty often and he found himself well acquainted with the school nurse for that reason
However he refused to tell anyone till now. Because Max and Talon were too important to him to bluntly lie.
His fingers reached for the hem of his coat as his tried to resist clenching the fabric along with the skin in the area of his heart
He had found a reason to live in his last days and he hated himself for that. However Talon was having none of that.
He showed no pity. And Cadis wondered at first if he minded the situation at all.
But he minded it more then anyone since for the past few days he dragged Cadis around to try things and show him places. He said his last moments should be the best.
Cadis smiled faintly at that. He felt Talon developing into something wonderful. And he wouldn’t be there to watch where it would lead to
Finally they reached their path. The skate park. It was only slightly warmer then outside considering they needed to freeze the ground for the icing.
They strode to the counter and Talon told their shoe size and the young girl there gave them two pairs of black bulky skates.
They sat on the bench and Cadis struggled but tried to seem cool at his failed attempt to put on the skates
Talon chuckled and kneeled before him to help him
“It’s like rollers you know”
“I have little experience with sports”
Talon looked up at him and then down with a smile
“Than I’m glad I’m giving you a chance with them”
He shot up from his feet and they made their way to the round hall with ice.
Talon smoothly slid on top and went with the flow with no worries whatsoever
Cadis however had an incredibly hard time stepping his second foot afraid he would fall down altogether
Talon chuckled and slid to him holding him by his wrists gently pulling him along. Cadis feet wobbled and there was a furious blush on his cheeks.
“T-talon” he stuttered and tried straightening his back slowly
“I can’t”
“You haven’t even started”
Talon lead him to the railings and let him hold on to those
“One foot after the other. Hold on to that and go in circles. Eventually once you get the pace we will go to the center”
He said reassuringly. Cadis in that moment forgot the crowd and held Talons hand as he did his best to skate.
Eventually he got used to the rhythm and a small smile made his lips curl. He started to like this
They went a little further from the helping rails still holding hands and Cadis started to grin. A full teeth showing smile.
“I didn’t know it felt like this”
He said and he started to pick up speed. Talon supported him all the way till their time limit and they got off the ice with Cadis beaming
“It was worth skipping school over this!”
Talon smiled “im glad you liked it”
Cadis embraced Talon and the boy took a whiff of his scent. Running water. Salt .
“Cadis how are you related to the seas?”
He asked finally and Cadis pulled away with his brows shot up
“How come I never told you?”
Talon shrugged
“Come. Let’s get a coffee and I’ll tell you my story”
They took back their shoes and placed their skates on the counter making their way to a small coffee shop Cadis favored
The bell jingled as they walked in the quiet café and took a sit beside a window. They appreciated the snow covered view.
The waiter came and took their orders. Cadis waited for them to arrive so that he could speak without been interrupted
Few minutes later, with a cup of hot coffee he began to speak.
“My uncle was a surfer. The best of them. And when he couldn’t surf he would go with the boat he owned and sail through the seas”
“Were you fond of surfing ?”
“As I said I was never fond of sports. A thing I still regret. He offered times and again to teach me but I refused”
He said with a sadness washing over him
“But I would always sit by the sea on the cold sand and watch him as he practiced every morning. Some days me my uncle and my dad would go sailing and some times we would race each other”
“My whole life was the ocean and the sound of the waves as they collided with the rocks”
Talon sipped on his still steaming tea his thoughts running a mile a minute. He remembered living by the sea. But the waters were shallow and he was too caught up running through the forests.
Therefore he held no such feeling toward it. Hearing Cadis however he could feel how fresh those memories were imprinted in his mind.
“My uncle would come to my house always wearing some ridiculously patterned pants with flowers or his surfing suit and drag me out of my nest”
“But one day he suddenly left without a notice saying he wanted to turn a new page in his life. And I only found out about that once he was already gone”
Cadis said his voice quieter by the minute. Talon reached and their fingers lingered. They didn’t mind been. Affectionate in public.
Talon was washed with a strong sense of uncertainty. His heart clenched and. His throat tightened. His lips quivered.
Cadis would leave Soon too.
He leaned and kissed Cadis softly. Cadis didn’t pull away. He brushed his lower lip against Talons upper one and ended the kiss with a very soft peck
“Talon…I’m glad we met”
He whispered as he connected their foreheads shutting the world out. It was just them.
