The ice that was flowing through my veins made me feel more alive than I had even felt, alive and free.
I had nothing planned out as I stormed into my house and into the kitchen where Braeden and Katarina were getting ready to leave.
“Eli? What are you doing home?” Thalia asked, worried.
“Lia, could you please go upstairs? I need to talk to Katarina and Braeden.” I said calmly.
Thalia’s look turned from worry to shock, then understanding as she looked into my eyes. She came up to me and kissed my cheek before going upstairs on my command.
I looked to my parents to see Katarina looking at me wide-eyed, and Braeden reading the newspaper.
“You would do well to look at me Braeden, this is important.” I said cooly.
I heard Katarina gulp, but he never budged. So, I froze his paper.
“What the hell do you think you are doing?!” he jumped up.
“Well done on noticing my existence after 10 years, now listen well. You two have been pretty shit parents for the past 10 years, Thalia is the only reason that I am not dead. But now, I’m doing you a favour, I’m leaving. After today you will never see me again, which will never be long enough for me.
“Enjoy the rest of your lives without me.”
I turned on my heel and walked to my room to see Thalia sitting on my bed with tears in her eyes.”
“So this is it? You’re leaving?” she whispered.
I went up to her and hugged her.
“You know this is for the best.”
She sniffed and held me tightly, “I love you. I’ll drop a box of food for you by the treeline every week, and I’ll set up the barrier against any strangers to you. Enjoy your life.”
“I love you too sis.”
She pulled away and kissed my forehead. I gave her a crystallized iceflake, kissed her cheek and watched her walked out of my room.
I froze my door shut, packed a bag of clothes and disappeared out of the window.
