“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No!” Lou Ellen scowled. “It’s our fault he’s in the infirmary!”
“Well you can go apologise to him!” Will snapped at his friends.
Cecil shuffled his feet. “I dunno, dude. You know what di Angelo’s like when he’s angry.”
Will raised his eyebrows. “And you think I wouldn’t say anything if he tried to attack you, even if he was mad at you?”
Lou Ellen considered this. Cecil, however, seemed intent on scraping his foot in some mud.
“C’mon, guys! I’ll even admit, it must be boring to only see Apollo kids!” Will looked desperate.
In fact, he had actually asked Nico what his reaction would be if he saw the two.
“I’d be fine with it… they- they are my friends, I guess.”
Will heard him mutter something else.
“Well, I hope they think that.”
Will stood up from the plastic chair and sat next to Nico on the infirmary bed. “I’m sure that they do.”
Nico muttered a thanks and turned over.
Will felt idiotic. He thought that if he made one thing positive for Nico, that the younger boy might spill long-kept secrets, like feelings.
Will had basically done this already.
“Y’know, most Apollo kids are bisexual or pansexual.”
Nico had looked up from the book he was reading.
“Nice.”
Will didn’t realise he was shaking his head until Cecil flicked his nose.
“What was that for!” Will frowned.
Cecil shrugged. “You spaced out, man. Then you started shaking your head an mumbling mumbo-jumbo.”
Will went a light shade of pink.
Cecil rolled his eyes. “Fine, we’ll go. I hope he doesn’t do anything stupid.”
Sighing, Will clicked his tongue. “Guys, I’m pretty sure he thinks of you as friends. He won’t hurt you.”
Lou Ellen just shrugged and walked off.
“Where are you going?”
“Pegasi riding. Not all of us spend our time in the infirmary.”
Cecil nodded and shuffled the opposite way. Will just scowled at them both.
He stormed off to the infirmary, taking one last glance back at his friends.
He knew they had been lying.
He knew it.
Needless to say, he was annoyed. He scowled and carried on walking.
So what if they had lied about activities?
So what if they thought Will was a crackpot?
He shook his head. Ever since the second giant war, they had become firm friends. This wouldn’t break them apart. It wouldn’t.
The son of Apollo realised that he was close to tears just as he hurried into the infirmary.
“Will?”
“Dude, what’s up?”
“William Solace. Why are you crying?”
He ignored his siblings and their patients as he walked into what he presumed was an empty room.
“Will? What’s up?” Oh, so of course he had to blubber in front of Nico again.
Of course.
“I-I’m sorry. I’ll l-leave.” Will managed to choke out.”
“No chance. You’re going to tell me what happened.”
“I really don’t want to-“
“No choice.”
“But-“
“Sit.“
Well, this was going to take a while to explain.
———————————-
“So… you’re crying… because they lied?” Nico questioned. His face was all scrunched up in confusion.
Will glared daggers at Nico. “Apollo. God of the sun, singing, poetry, archery, healing AND honesty. Do your research.”
“Well I’m sorry that I didn’t know everything about your dad.”
“Oh, who even cares?!”
“Wait… what?”
“None of my siblings get it, neither do any of my friends! I’ve never had friends lie to me before! The whole camp knows how touchy we are about that!” Will was breathing heavily. “And all of my siblings say ‘you’ll know when they’re lying’ but I DON’T! Just another thing that I’m terrible at! I can’t sing, I can’t do archery, I can’t do anything! How could I expect you to understand!” He pointed at Nico, who looked shell shocked. “You have all your fathers good talents! I’m just stuck here in the stupid infirmary!”
Nico stood. Will expected him to look angry, but instead he looked sympathetic. “Will…”
The son of Apollo stopped. He had just realised how rude he’d been. “I-I’m s-sorry…”
Instead of being punched in the face like thought he would be, he was being hugged.
By Nico di Angelo.
