It had been a few days since the whole hugging thing. Instead of making things more awkward, it actually helped the two boys become closer friends.
“Hey, Nico?” Will asked.
“Hmm?” The son of Hades looked up from a book he was borrowing. It was from the Athena cabin, obviously.
Will looked kind of sad. Nico, on the other hand, was excited. Was this the day he got to go back to his cabin?
Will shuffled his feet. “Lou Ellen and Cecil… aren’t coming now.”
“Wait, what?” To be honest, the whole hugging thing was connected to them coming over.
“They… they think I overreacted,” Will said miserably, “but I only ignored them for, like, an hour!”
Nico frowned. “I can go talk to them.”
“Y-you would? Really?” The son of Apollo now looked like a happy puppy.
Nico chuckled a bit to himself. “Of course. What are friends for?”
Nico and Will had become quite close. Not as close as Jason and the son of Hades, as Jason knew, well, about… Percy, and Will didn’t. But they were still close friends.
Will’s face split into a full out grin. “Thanks,” he sighed. He looked a lot more at rest.
“No problem.”

“What d’you mean, ‘he overreacted’!”
“He did! It was just a tiny lie!”
“Apollo is also the god of honesty!”
“Then Will should’ve known!”
Nico had fire in his eyes. Deep, dark fire, as though it had come straight from Tartarus.
“How dare you say that,” Nico spat, his voice barely above a whisper. “You know he’s insecure about his powers.”
Lou Ellen must’ve suddenly realised what she said. Her eyes went wide, but she seemed to shrink.
Cecil had apologised about an hour ago. That was when Nico was up for civilised conversation.
Now, there was a crowd of mostly Ares kids surrounding the two shouting demigods. Clarisse was actually trying to calm them down, but when there were about 12 buff kids of various ages, well… it was hard.
“Fight it out! Fight it out!” A girl called… Paige, was it? Anyway, Paige was screaming like a lunatic.
Nico glared at the crowd, and everybody went silent. He stared at the Ares kids. “Leave. Now.” He snarled. He had venom in his veins, and he was desperate to use it on someone.
The other kids left, leaving Lou Ellen and Nico facing each other.
“You’re going to apologise to Will.”
“No.“
“Why are you so stubborn! It’s like you’re… jealous!”
The daughter of Hecate’s face fell instantly. Nico knew he had her trapped.
“Why are you jealous, Lou?” Nico asked, putting his hand on her shoulder gently. He didn’t want to, but it always comforted him…
“Because-” Lou sounded broken. “Because I’ve never had anyone look at me the way Will looks at you. I don’t want to have to go through that.”
Nico was blushing furiously. “The-the way h-he looks at-at me?”
“You’re almost as thick as Percy was.” And with that, she left.
Nico was speechless for a few minutes. “Wait… wait. What? The way… he looks at me? I-I don’t-” his eyes widened.
He gulped and sprinted to the infirmary. Time to test out his theory.
