Jacob’s POV

“Shawn, hurry! It’s almost midnight!” I yelled excitedly, standing in next to the door.

“Babe, calm down. It’s only,” Shawn paused to look at his phone, “9:45. We have plenty of time until midnight.”

“But the stars are important too!” I exclaimed as Shawn finally entered the main room dressed.

“Are you ready?” He asked me putting on a coat and I nodded excitedly, a bright smile on my face.

As soon as we parked, I grabbed the blanket and immediately bolted out of the car, running towards the park entrance, as I hear Shawn call my name behind me.

Shawn and I are finally going to Saturday Night Stars together, and I have never been here since my dad’s accident. Although my wounds have yet to heal, having Shawn by my side makes them more bearable. Tonight is also even more memorable because this Saturday is also New Year’s Eve, so I would never miss an opportunity to watch the stars and celebrate the new year with my love.

I’ve always imagined that I’d be here with my mom and dad. Knowing my dad, he’d always spend the two weeks before this event online shopping for the ugliest blanket to sit on, and my mom being my mom would always yell at him before it, but she would never change the blanket that he chooses to buy.

Me, being their child, would receive the countless text messages of photos of different blankets from different websites. I always replied with “wow I like it” and then which ever  parents I told it to that day, would boast to my other parents saying that “I liked their choice better.”

Moments like those are the ones I took for granted growing up, and I would do anything to experience them once again.

Once I found the perfect spot, I threw the blanket down on the blanket on the floor, not caring that it was no where near places properly, and laid on top of it.

While lying down, my view of the stars we blocked by a certain someone standing in front of me, smiling while shaking his head.

“I’m not sure if I’m right babe, but I am assuming you’re excited.” Shawn said sitting down next to me.

“You could be right, or you could be wrong. I guess we will never know.” I replied smiling.

He reached out to grab my hand but then we heard a female voice calling out a certain name.

“Shawn?” we looked over to see a girl coming over, and he waved with the hand that was supposed to grab mine, “oh my god it is you! I’m such a big fan!”

“Hi, it’s so nice to meet you! What’s your name?” Shawn asked the girl, and pulling her into a hug.

“I’m Serena!” She introduces herself before looking over at me, “oh my god, you’re here with a friend, i’ll get off your back but it was so nice to meet you!”

“No no it’s fine!” I assured her, “did you want a picture! I know if I met my idol, i’d want a picture!”

“Are you sure that it’s no problem? I really don’t want to intrude.” Serena asked, but I nodded and smiled, “thank you so much!”

She handed me her phone and she stood next to Shawn. I felt a pang of jealousy, but as I was once in that girl’s position where I am obsessed with my idol, I let it pass.

“Thank you so much Shawn, and,” she paused looking at me.

“Jacob! It was nice meeting you Serena.” I said as she nodded and hugging.

“Thank you Jacob, and Shawn!” she said pulling away from the hug, “it was so nice meeting you both!”

Once we said our goodbyes, she finally walked away, assuming back to her family and friends.

“Sorry about that, Jacob.” Shawn said taking a seat next to me and I just shook my head.

“Shawn, don’t worry about it. I was once a fan too, remember?” I said looking at him. He laughed before grabbing my hand, intertwining our fingers.

“How could I forget? I met you at a concert because you passed out when you met me.” Shawn answered, and I laughed.

“Anyways, how much time do we have until midnight?” Shawn asked and I pulled out my phone.

“Twenty minutes until the new year,” I said putting the phone back in my pocket, “i’m sorry that I made us stay here for New Year’s. I know you really wanted to go to New York.”

“Jay, going to New York represents the ‘hey, i’m rich and can afford going there to have parties’ me,” Shawn said squeezing my hand reassuringly, “but I am in love with you, so doing what you love makes me so happy. Plus, I do kind of prefer this more quiet and calmer way to spend New Years.”

I smiled and laid my head on his shoulder as I watched the many happy families around me. Kids chasing each other, parents sitting and enjoying time with their family and friends taking photos with one another. I then looked to the person who is right next to me, who is currently admiring the stars twinkling above us.

He is the one who I once and still idolize. Someone who is funny, talented, and the most kindest person that I’ve met. I still can’t believe that I, a fan basically, gets this chance to wake up next to him, kiss him, hold his hand, share and create memories like this that we will cherish for our whole lives.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I hate that I get to do those thing or that I’m taking it for granted. I am just bewildered that I’m the one who gets to do that. He is the one and only Shawn Mendes, the person who has both male and female fans swooning over him, people who are willing to do anything just to get noticed by him. He had the chance to court someone who is much more beautiful and talented than me, yet here he is sitting right next me.

“What are you thinking about?” Shawn said looking at me now, instead of the stars.

“You,” I replied simply and he hummed in response.

“Are they good things about me?” he asked and I nodded smiling.

“Of course they are.” I said and he smiled back, returning to looking at the sky.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the New Year’s fireworks show will begin in 60 seconds,” a voice said over an intercom.

With that announcement, my heart started to beat faster with excitement. Shawn and I looked at each other before looking at the stage set up at the park with a giant projected screen of a clock, ticking down second by second until the new year.

“I’ve had an amazing year Jacob,” Shawn started, pulling my attention towards him, “every second I spent with you was time that I will never forget, time that I will always take with me for you are the greatest thing that has come into my life and I can’t wait to make more memories with you.”

I smiled and blushed and was about to say something but was interrupted by the loud cheers.

“Ten!” the crowd roared and Shawn and I joined along.

“Nine!”

This year has truly taught me a lot about myself as well as the world around me.

“Eight!”

New Year’s for me makes me look back at my life and ask questions.

“Seven!”

Did I make the right choices?

“Six!”

Would this year have gone differently if I did things differently?

“Five!”

Are you happy with how this year turned out?

“Four!”

But, since meeting Shawn, and dating him my perspectives have changed.

“Three!”

I don’t want to live in the past anymore, I want to live in the present and look towards the future.

“Two!”

I want to move on from all the sadness and pain that I have earned in the past and build my future to being truly happy, with those who are truly meant to be in my life.

“One! Happy New Year!”

Shawn and I kissed, a smile on our faces, for this is a moment that we will never forget.

Because he is the person who I know is meant to be in my life.

a book that I started as a sophomore in high school is finally finished as I am about to be a freshmen in college, life works in mysterious yet incredible ways.

this is the first story that i’ve completed and my little writer heart has so many more ideas for stories all in my head and notes.

but I am so sorry for how long you had to wait for this end, probably a year oops.

it’s been hard to write this because i’ve kind of fallen out of the whole Shawn Mendes fandom :(( like I still support him and his music, but i’m not as like a “fan fanboy” ya know?

I fell into a kpop hole so now i’ve become a kpop stan which is why i’ve been so distracted writing this book i’m sorry friends. I even have like 3 drafts of Stray Kids stories in my drafts oops

but anyways, if like kpop let’s be friends, i’d love to make new kpop friends uwu

but if u wanna be friends in general, let me know!! I love making friends and if u need someone to talk to let me know!!

there will a bonus chapter where I discuss my original plans and some loose ends that never were never finished coming out later, and maybe i’ll even add some other bonus chapters of fluff for good ol’ Shawn and Jacob :,))
