I wake up to a doctor shaking me gently.

“Hey, wake up. You aren’t Princess Aurora, you know.” He jokes. I stir around, eventually sitting upright in my bed, stretching out my arms and yawning. I rub the sleep out of my eyes and scratch the side of my head.

“Hey there.” I mutter. “I don’t remember you from yesterday. Who are you?”

He stands upright and chuckles. He was wearing a standard doctor’s outfit. He looked like a Native American male in his early twenties. He had long black hair and was decently muscled. So he looked like a stereotypical Native American male in scrubs. “I’m Dr. Slein. Pronounced like Stein but with an ‘L’ instead of a ‘T’. I’m here with you today because your last doctor suffered from some bad sushi. I got your breakfast right here for ya’.” He explained as he lifted a tray and gently sat it on the hospital table beside me.

“Okay. Thanks.” I yawned, not caring about anything other than maybe getting some overtime on my sleeping schedule. He gave me a stern look, as if he knew what I was thinking and then moved the tray from the table to my lap. I looked at him puzzled.

“You’re not getting any more sleep. Too much sleep is as healthy as getting the normal amount of sleep in an alleyway.” He scolded. I looked at him with a look of shock.

“How do you know-?” I asked him, getting immediately interrupted.

“It’s not hard to notice people sleeping around without shelter like a hobo.” He told me. “Why was a kid like you doing that, eh?”

I looked down at my plate and clenched my fists, remembering yesterday. “I would really rather not talk about that again…” I muttered quietly, saddened and slightly angry with myself. He crossed his arms and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath.

“Well, you were scheduled to be discharged later tonight with medication to keep your illness at bay until it passes, but with nowhere to stay, I guess I can pull some things to let you stay a bit longer…” He says, talking like it would be a huge pain. Suddenly, a voice sounded from the entrance of my hospital room.

“He has a place he can go.” It says quietly. The voice is male and very familiar, but in a stranger tone from what I was used to. The person walks forward and reveals themself to be Giz, looking dismal and refusing to even look at me, only at Dr. Slein. Slein stares at him and then looks at me, catching on to the awkward tension around.

“Very well. I’ll… I’ll just go, uh… Do a thing. Yeah. That sounds good.” He says, awkwardly waltzing out of the room and closing the door behind him. Giz sits on the foot of my bed and looks down, still refusing to look at me. I grip my left arm and look down at my food.

“I’m sorry…” I whisper. He looks over at me and angrily gets his face closer to me at a quick pace. I flinch but suddenly, I feel a warm press on my lips as heat enters my mouth and open my eyes to realize he was kissing me. I fall into the kiss that lasts for a few passionate moments. Moments that I wanted to last eternity. He pulls away and strokes the side of my face.

“You did nothing wrong.” He says to me. I’m left speechless.

“Did you get red and yellow flowers from Cierra, too?” I ask, really scared that my imagination went wild. He sat there, puzzled like he had the worst acid dream ever.

“That’s… What the fuck kind of question is that?” He asks, loudly and utterly confused. I chuckle and place a hand on his cheek.

“Don’t worry about it. Fever dream. It’s fine if I crash at your house?” I ask, scared.

“I swear you’re more hard headed than me.” He chuckles. “How much of a positive vibe can my family give you?”

“I… Guess that’s a really obvious yes.” I say. He nods and hugs me. “Now how you going to pay for those cracks in the wall?”

“No freakin’ idea.” He chuckles as I embrace him. He pushes away from me and chuckles.

“I have a way to celebrate your discharge.” He starts. I look at his energetically.

“A party!?” I squeel like a child. He laughs and gives a crooked and devilish smile.

“Not quite. It involves more confrontation than that.” He says. I know what he’s thinking already, and I shoot him an agitated look of refusal.

“No fucking way.” I say flat out. “I’m not going to fucking talk to them.”

“You can’t leave off on that kind of note, Jared.” He says to me, stating what I already know back at my face.

“I can. And I will. They don’t deserve it.” I say, anger swelling up as I continue to think about it.

“We can get more of your stuff while you’re there.” He says, trying to bribe me. I do only have a few clothes and I have a few things there that I do want back that I couldn’t grab before I left.

I grit my teeth and close my eyes, giving in to the temptations. “Fine. But I’m going to complain about it while I’m getting my other things.” Giz pumps his fist and whispers something under his breath.

“Well, you able to go to the cafeteria with me?” He asks, relieved I agreed.

“You laid on my food so may as well.” I sass and chuckle as I move the plate and get up from my bed. As we pass out the door, Dr. Slein stops Giz and whispers in his ear.

“You two are fairly close, huh?” He asks, sounding almost as if he was sighing.

“Yeah, he’s my boyfriend. Are we supposed to not be close to each other?” Giz asked back, confused. Slein eases off of Giz and leans back into the wall.

“No, no, that’s perfectly fine. You two have fun. It’s a great thing you cherish each other so much!” He chuckles loudly. Giz walks away from him, weirded out by the events and walks back beside me as we head down to the cafeteria for another meal together.
