I woke up with a soaring headache. Maybe pop, chips and ice cream at one in the morning was a not-so-good idea. Especially on a school night. But hey, it was the last night of spring break and I needed to celebrate. Jensen, my favorite of my friends, the one I’m closest to, was face-timing me also. Till about ten, because he went to bed. I should have taken that as a hint and went to bed myself.
I got up, cracked my back, and checked the time on my phone. 7:54 a.m. Just enough time for a shower and breakfast. Even though I shoveled my face full with food last night, I’m still hungry. Seventeen year old males generally tend to be like that.
Rummaging through my hamper, I found a dry towel. I sniffed it to make sure I could use it, one more time. It smelled fine, so slung it over my shoulder and headed for the bathroom. I turned on the faucet, found the perfect temperature and stepped in. The beads of water hitting me soothed my headache a little.
After, I dried my hair and and wrapped the towel around my waist. I checked my hair in the mirror. I can hear my friend Charlie’s voice in my head: “blonde is just goes with anything, that’s why I love it,” and she would rattle on how and why blonde hair is the best to have. Charlie dyes her hair blonde, but god forbid anyone know. For me, I was born with it.
I made my way back to my room to get dressed. I threw dirty clothes around everywhere except a hamper. You couldn’t even see my floor anymore. I managed to keep my closet clean though. Even with the piles of clothes littering my floor, I still have an excess amount of clothes to choose from. I slipped on a comfy plain white v neck shirt and a pair of dark jeans. The pants weren’t skinny jeans but they weren’t baggy either. Finally having some clothes on, I went back to the bathroom and put a little gel in my hair. Just enough to make it stand up.
I heard my mom call from downstairs, “Whiat it’s 8:15, hurry it up a bit!” She doesn’t bother coming up the stairs. That’s my domain. My palace. No literally, the way the stairs meet the balcony, it could be a palace. And I have it all to myself. No siblings equal no fight and no sharing.
Before leaving my room, I grab my backpack. I grabbed my keys from the key hanger and yelled for my mom. “Mom, I’m leaving!” I wait in silence by the door for a reply.
“Alright drive safe! I will see you when you get home, text me if you go anywhere.” As soon as I heard her answer back, I opened the side door, which a leads straight to the garage. So far, my Monday back to school was fine. But then again, I haven’t even got to school yet.
Pulling in to the school parking lot, I saw Sutton and Brant getting dropped off. I chuckle to myself. If Brant never would cut his hair, he would look just like his sister. Brown hair and brown eyes. The usual. I was special, having blonde hair and cloudy gray eyes.
Tapping and muffled talking startled me. I looked out the window to see Jensen. He backed up from my door slowing me room to get out.
“You look awake for being tired,” Jensen looked me up and down.
“Way to check me out you creep, and how did you know I was tired?” I did my best to cover it up. Apparently I didn’t do so well.
He laughed at me. “I just know you to well to know that you probably stayed up late last night having a party for one.” He was right. That’s exactly what I did. As we were walking, I noticed him fall back behind me. Before I slowed down to let him catch up he had his hands at my waist and gripping my pants. It was at this point I started to consider wearing skinny jeans and or a belt, because in one swift move Jensen pulled my pants down clear to my ankles.
He then took off way ahead if me, leaving me there. I bent down, trying to retrieve my pants. To make it worse, my backpack decided to fall forward and block my view. Tossing my it aside, I scrambled to get my pants back up. The war was on.
I had ten minutes to get my folders and books, and then get to class. I did so and had a couple minutes to spare. So I strolled across the hallway to Charlie’s locker, where Sutton, Brant, Jason and Gavin were all standing. I got a big posy, I know.
“Nice mishap in the parking lot,” Jason said and slapped me on the back. Every one cracked up. I noticed Jason had half a black eye.
“Not as nice as the half moon under your eye.” Everyone liked that come back because they were laughing even harder than before. The bell rang. I guess I would have to find out how he got it at lunch. However it happened, it sure didn’t go with his face. It was too dark for his pale skin and light brown hair. Not to mention what it made his dull blue eyes look like.
Back to Jensen and the oncoming world war three we were about to have. Lucky for me, we had the first four hours together. Unlucky for him though. I need to think of a comeback quick, I am almost to class with Gavin and Sutton.
I’m not fast enough. He is lucky. I enter my first hour and sit down next to Jensen. “I can tell by the look on your face you have no comeback,” He smirks at me. I will have one eventually. “I guess that means I win.”
“Good morning class,” Mrs. Dillton grabs a marker to write the date on the board. She is the best teacher in my opinion. She teaches psychology. We do the coolest group projects. One time we got into groups and had to see who could come up with the best rumor. If people believed your group, your rumor won. It was to show how people choose to understand what they are told. Anyways, we have been in chapter eleven for some time now. It’s because it’s the longest chapter. It deals with how people react and handle sexual situations. Kissing, hand holding and even hugging. Apparently those are considered ‘sexual situations’.
“How did we all do on our homework over spring break?” What? there was homework? I don’t remember any homework. Jensen is searching his folder like an animal. Maybe there was. I looked at other people. Some were doing the same as Jensen and others were just sitting there dumbfounded. “Got ya, it was a psych test. Who would panic if I said the word ‘homework’?” Mrs. Dillton likes to give mini heart attacks. She took a stack of papers from her desk and handed them to the beginning of each row to pas behind them. Once I got one, I read it.
“This is a group project as usual, four people in a group.” And at those words students started flying around the room in search if partners. I already had an established, permanent and working group. Me, Jensen, Sutton and Gavin. Gavin and Sutton came over to Jensen and my table.
“What do we got to do this time?” Sutton asked. I took a minute to read the paper over sense no one else stepped up to the job. I read to do the following experiment: 1. two of the four people in your group must hug and the other two record the results(one must be boy and boy, boy and girl, girl and girl)
When I was done reading I looked up from my paper and saw everyone else reading it. “How are we supposed to do this experiment with two girls if we only have one?” I asked aloud.
Mrs. Dillton must of overheard me. “Then you don’t do it hun, don’t worry no point off,”
So that’s it? Well that’s going to be easy. Hugs aren’t that bad. “Let’s do the extra credit,” Sutton suggested. I didn’t see extra credit. “on the back.” I flipped the paper over, as did everyone else in the group, and there it was.
Extra Credit: If you complete this same experiment with a kiss with two people from the same gender you will receive 15 extra points on your chapter 11 test.
“What the hell Sutton you can’t just do that!” Gavin blurt out. Of course he wasn’t going to want to do it, he had a girl friend. Not that I wanted to do it either.
“I wasn’t talking about you,” Sutton turned her head toward me and Jensen. No. That’s not happening. Jensen didn’t want that either. He took his chair and scooted as far away from me as possible.
I point at Jensen. “I think that’s a no,” I say to avoid anymore discussion on the topic. “from the both of us.”
“Oh come on you big chicken shit,” She said that a bit loudly and a couple people outside our group looked over. “oops, but come on, fifteen points!? That’s a lot for her to give and you know it.” Sutton was right. To get that much more points was rare and super helpful. But still, the answer was no. Sutton began to argue more but the bell rang, cutting her off.
In second hour, biology, all we did was correct the test we took before spring break all hour. Third hour was gym. Fourth hour was geometry, we constructed paper boxes using formulas we had to solve. So far, my day was slow moving.
When geometry was over lunch began. I made my way down to the lunch room with Jensen. We sat at out usual table with Gavin, Sutton, Jason, Brant, and Charlie.
“I see you remembered your pants this time,” Gavin joked. This pants joke will stick for a few days. I just laughed along with it. “just kidding you know.” He added to make it hurt less. It really didn’t bother me though.
“Did you all get the extra credit in psychology?” Charlie searched our faces waiting for an answer. Charlie was in second hour psychology with Brant. I shot a serious look at Sutton, hoping she wouldn’t carry on with the argument earlier.
“Yes we did,” Sutton speaks up and looks at me. “Gavin obviously won’t do it because he has a girlfriend.” Her voice got high and mocking like when she said ‘girlfriend’. Like she was teasing him for that excuse. “so that leaves Jensen and Whiat but they are too scared.” She finishes by sticking her tongue out at me and Jensen.
“Well I don’t see the big deal, I’m doing it with Cassy. It’s not like it has to be this huge make out session…” Charlie is now on Sutton’s side. I wanted to change the subject.
“Who’s all in your group?” I asked Charlie.
She pointed to Brant, “Him, me, Cassy and this new girl Kam.” New girl? “and Brant totaly has a crush on her!” Charlie poked Brant, who was right next to her.
“I do not, plus who says crush anymore. I will say one thing. She is smokin hot!” Brant wiggles his eyebrows. Now I have to meet this new girl. “anyway, yeah Charlie and Cassy are going to do the extra credit for the group.”
“That extra credit isn’t sounding that bad now,” Gavin grabbed my shoulder. No way. “But I have a girl friend so not me.” He let go of my shoulder. That was a horrible you-should-do-the-extra-credit gesture.
Jason decided now would be a good time to contribute to the debate. “Well I’m glad I don’t have that class”
I threw out that comment and turned to Sutton. “When is the frickin thing due?” She took her binder out and looked for the paper.
“Tomorrow,” She answered and gave me the paper to see for myself. “You guys can come over after school then and we can do it.”
“Okay and Gavin can bring his girlfriend,” Jensen patted Gavin on the back. Ha! I wasn’t the only one starting to doubt Gavin’s ‘girlfriend’.
Gavin’s face turned white. “No she is…is…she is sick today.” He picked up his fork and started to mess with his I eaten beans. What a dork. Why is he lying? “and that’s why she is not at school today…” Oh well I guess it’s not something to get worked up over.
“Are we doing the extra credit then?” Jeez, Sutton won’t let this thing go. Well if Gavin is lying about his girlfriend we can always make him do it. Just not with me.
“Sure, come find me after school and I will take us to your house.” Bell rang, lunch dismissed. I got up and walked with Jensen, Charlie and Jason to our next class. I noticed Sutton and Gavin walking in the opposite direction…
“Did you just nominate me to make out with Gavin!?” Jensen shook my arm. What a great time to change the subject!
I turned to Jason. “So about your black eye…” Jensen let go of my arm and stormed off. I’m pretty sure he called me an asshole but who knows. He can’t go long without me, so I make nothing of it.
Jason apparently got his black eye from his little cousin. He was trying to teach his cousin to swing a baseball bat the right way and…bam! Black eye.
The last two hours of school were just as boring as the first four. We did basically nothing because it was our first day back from break. Finally school was over. I texted my mom and told her I would be at Sutton’s to complete a project and will be home later. I waited by my locker for Sutton, Gavin and Jensen.
Once Sutton and Gavin were there, it was a waiting game for Jensen. “What’s taking him so long?” Sutton asked. “Usually he is always with you.”
“I made him mad right after lunch,” I put in. I did, but I was for sure he wasn’t this upset. “He should be here anytime.” I guessed. I guessed right, because I closed my locker and saw him walking towards us. “What took you so long?” I asked him when he met us.
He looked at me with a annoyed face but then sighed. “I got a nice lecture from Mr. Long on how pig noises were not appropriate for health.” He paused, and raised his hands, “and it wasn’t even me!” Suits him right. What comes around goes around.
“Ok well whatever let’s go I want to get this done with,” Sutton pushed her backpack further on her shoulder and headed for the back doors.
“She’s in a hurry.” Gavin shouted loud enough for her to hear. She raised a hand to him and kept going. Me and Jensen followed then out to my car. We have a psychology experiment to obtain.
