It’s Saturday the week before school is due to start again, next week we are having a party for Elliot, so this week my parents have allowed me to throw one final sleep over for me and my mates. I have been kind and included Alfie and Sofia in this, also Elliot is leaving soon so he said he will drop into my room to join in for a while.
Sofia has had to lie to her parents and bring her friend Vanessa Torres along, they have kind of done the age old trick of telling their parents that they are sleeping at each other’s houses. Well it’s their own skins if they get caught, Alfie wants her here so who am I to argue, Domingo already warned him that there will be no funny business.
Dom is currently at my house the rest of the guys are not due for a few hours, I have already cleaned my room at my mum’s request even though it will be a mess again soon. I needed to go out and get some snacks for everyone so I grabbed Dom’s hand and dragged him from the house shouting to my mum that we would be back soon.
As we walked Dom discussed what he wanted to do tonight and I agreed we could play some games but we both admitted it would probably end up with Lucas and Elliot playing Call of Duty. Alfie and Sofia snogging the night away while her friend Vanessa will be clinging to Dom and me for company. I hoped we could at least have a few hours fun first otherwise Dom would end up falling asleep on me again.
When we arrived at the grocery store, Dom grabbed a basket while I loaded it with chips, dips and soda, my friends were notorious for eating tonnes so I grabbed a few flavours of everything. We went through the check out and bagged the items then we took it all home and straight up to my room.
An hour later Lucas turned up, closely followed by Alfie and the girls. I wasn’t surprised when Alfie dug straight into the food and soda he ate so much yet gained no weight at all just like his brother. When we were all settled Dom suggested we play a game of truth or dare, I groaned in response I hated this game. The dares were always ridiculous and I never wanted to answer the questions that were put forward as part of the truth, but I didn’t want to be the only one to back out.
Lucas grabbed a bottle and spun it round and it landed on Vanessa first, I saw the worry flit across her face as Lucas asked her truth or dare. She decided on a truth and he asked her if she had ever been laid, she quickly turned red and shook her head. I grabbed the bottle and spun it again effectively taking the attention away from Vanessa before her face exploded, this time it landed on Dom.
“Truth or Dare?” Lucas asked him smiling.
“Truth.” He smirked back.
“Who have you slept with in our year, name them all.” Lucas asked.
“Nope I don’t kiss and tell, Dare.” He stated.
“Fine kiss Vanessa!” Lucas smirked.
“Fine.” Domingo said but didn’t look happy as leaned forward to kiss her on the lips.
It was Domingo’s turn to spin the bottle and I might have guessed it would land on me, I instantly dread what they would ask so I chose a dare. Lucas in his mission to get me and Domingo girls, dared me to snog at least one new girl every week when school starts. I groaned internally as I didn’t like any of the girls in our year, it wasn’t that they were shallow or funny looking I’m just not interested. I am a straight A student and I haven’t got time to go finding a new girl every week to snog but I guess I couldn’t back out now.
The game continued until everyone had been picked, Alfie and Sofia got it easy they were dared to get caught in a kiss in front of my mum and Lucas picked truth and was asked if he really did fancy Mia which he denied. I thought it might be best to quit this game before anything worse happened so we decided to watch a movie instead.
Lucas jumped up and said he was going to the toilet before the movie and I told him to hurry up because I needed it too. So when he hadn’t come back five minutes later I jumped up to see if he was done, as I walked along the corridor I heard talking coming from Elliot’s room. I peeked through the open door to see Lucas sitting cross legged on his bed watching him as he packed for the army, I could hear him asking Elliot if he would come and watch the movie. When Elliot agreed smiling, Lucas moved towards the door and I quickly skipped passed towards the toilet.
When I got back to my room Domingo was on my bed keeping me a space, Lucas and Elliot were sitting on the floor leaning against my bed and Alfie and the girls were sprawled out on the airbed. I climbed onto my spot beside Dom and he clicked play on the Xbox, Lucas had chosen the film apparently and I smiled when the Breakfast Club started playing.
As we watched I heard a whispered conversation between Lucas and Elliot about him leaving for the army, I could hear him asking how long he would be away and where he was likely to be posted. Elliot answered his questions politely but when Lucas asked him to promise to stay safe I heard Elliot’s intake of breath and saw Lucas blush. Elliot simply nod his head and then the pair turned back to the movie, I think that I was the only one who witnessed the private conversation and I was surprised that Lucas would worry so much. But after all he has known Elliot a long time and I’m sure he would be upset if anything happened, we all would be.
I was suddenly feeling down, the thoughtfulness that Lucas had just shown to my brother made me appreciate the dangers that he would face. He was only eighteen and I hated the fact that he was doing this but he had made his mind up. You see Elliot was never good at school and he saw this as his way of making money. I just hoped he realised what it could cost him if he wasn’t careful, it wouldn’t be worth any amount of money to me but Elliot had always been braver than me.
I shuffled back into Domingo looking for comfort and being Dom he knew exactly what I was doing and wrapped his arm around me, I reached up and grabbed his hand and he let go and stroked my hair.
“You ok?” He asked.
“Yeah I guess I just realised how much I will miss Elliot.” I whispered.
“He will be ok you know.” He soothed.
“I guess so.” I replied.
We watched the end of the movie, and I give a whoop when Judd Nelson does his fist pump at the end and we all sang along with Simple Minds as the credits rolled up. Dom pulled away from me and jumped up to go to the bathroom and for some strange reason I instantly felt cold but I shrugged it off knowing he would be back.
“I bloody love Judd Nelson he’s so cool, everything that I am clearly not.” I laughed.
“You got that right little bro.” Elliot laughed back.
“Hey Charlie’s cool.” Lucas defended me.
“Cheers bud.” I said sticking out my tongue as Elliot rolled his eyes.
“What did I miss?” Dom said plonking down next to me.
“Charlie here wants to be Judd Nelson and Lucas thinks he is cool enough. I disagree.” Elliot filled him in.
“Ah erm sorry Charlie you ain’t ever gonna be as cool as Judd Nelson.” He laughed.
“Thanks.” I pushed him. “For nothing.”
They all burst out laughing including the girls, Alfie went for the food again while I poured out some soda for Dom, Lucas and I. Elliot jumped up probably to leave and go back to his room but Lucas stopped him asking him to stay a bit longer to keep him company while me and Dom continue being ourselves.
I was a bit offended by that we never left him out or at least we tried not to, I was starting to think there might be more to this maybe Lucas really was worried about Elliot leaving. The pair turned the Xbox back to Call of Duty, whilst Alfie and the girls fell into an easy conversation about Alfie’s skating. Dom and I quietly continued our conversation about Elliot and I told him what I had overheard between Lucas and Elliot, he was just as confused as me and agreed that it was probably because he thought of Elliot as a brother.
It was around midnight when Elliot finally left my room to Lucas’ disappointment, Dom had fallen asleep an hour ago as had the girls. So Lucas, Alfie and I decided to call it a night too I wasn’t particularly tired, but being wrapped up in my sleeping best friend I was nice and cosy. Sleep came pretty easily and without knowing it at the time, I was going to be really pleased that I had that good night sleep ready for the events of the next day.
