25) Heart – Liam
I opened my eyes just too see myself in midair, above a castle that covered almost a hundred meters of land. The wind blew on my face as the force of gravity started to pull me towards the ground.
I glanced to my children, the vampire I personally converted, and saw them in the same condition I was. I wandered my eyes to see something to soften my fall but saw nothing except for what seemed to be a flock of colorful birds hovering at a roofless tower from one part of the castle. I focused my eyes and realized those weren’t birds but witches sitting on their broom, flying around a few fallen bodies.
I smelled the faint scent of blood, and I knew exactly whose blood it was.
“Niall,” I saw him, his body spread wide on a metallic table, his stomach opened and blood oozed everywhere. A woman stood before him looking exactly like Rhiannon before she entered the body of another druid that Verona had been wearing. She glanced over Niall’s unmoving body, her hands opening his stomach wider like she was searching for something.
I saw her lips curved in a devilish smile as she pulled something from inside Niall. A foot came slowly followed by a tiny body of a baby that started crying after a few seconds.
“Hang in there, Niall,” I prayed softly as I shifted my position in midair so that my feet pointed to the ground. I know the fall wouldn’t kill me or my subordinates but we should avoid as much damage as possible if we wanted to be on time to save him.
The speed of the fall increased as the ground became nearer and nearer. I braced myself for the impact and the pain of some broken bones. But as my feet were about to touch the ground, some sort of wind blew me softly, landing me to the ground.
I turned around and saw the Rhiannon, floating in midair, sitting a broom like Verona had been. She looked exactly liked the witch before she exorcised it from the body of her fallen comrade.
“What?” She rolled her eyes at me. “We taught the witches almost all magic they knew. So a simple broom magic isn’t impossible for me.” She then waved her hands and slowly drooped more of us on the ground without damage, including the wolves.
A moment later, a shrilling sound echoed. I turned to the direction where the sound that made the hair on my spine stand and saw a wolf, Harry, on top of the tower where I saw Niall. But there had been something different about the wolf I saw, it appeared bigger and his eyes glowed red.
“Alpha,” I heard the wolves cried as they shifted towards their leader, only to be blocked by a couple of fire balls hitting the ground. Witches flew overhead us, passing swiftly on their brooms and zapping us with whatever magic they can conjure.
“Verona!” I heard a call from a witch approaching Rhiannon; her clothing was blue but she exudes more power than all the other witches that were wearing blue. “What the hell are you doing?”
“Eradicating. You. All,” Rhiannon spoke, her eyes throwing daggers to the other witch. “Vulpecana,” she casted and the three small little fire fox appeared beside her just before they curved and lounged like fireballs to the blue witch.
The blue witch had been taken by surprise but successfully evaded the first fireball, and defended against the other two by casting a transparent defensive barrier that made the last two foxes ricochet to the ground.
Unfortunately, some of the witches behind her weren’t so lucky and they found themselves on the ground, with some angry werewolves.
The wolves lounge on some of them. They casted spells to deflect the wolves, some were able to go back flying on the sky, throwing fireballs to the wolves to help their allies, but some others weren’t so lucky. They found themselves ripped apart, their magic helpless against the speed and strength of the wolves.
“You’re not Verona,” she yelled realizing it too late. “Why do you have Verona’s body?”
“I only took what was taken from us,” Rhiannon answered calling another bunch of fire foxes. But the other witch also started to conjure something that I didn’t see because Niall’s blood caught my nose making my head turn.
The smell of his life became more prominent. I knew he was losing too much blood that he could die.
I can’t let that happen to him, not again, not this time.
I glanced at the tower and dashed towards it. I had just dug my claws on the wall trying to climb it up through the outside when I heard a movement coming towards me so I jump back to the ground. And soon enough the wall exploded, it got hit by a huge rock.
“Nice reflex blood sucker,” a witch hovered meters away from me and below her, stood something, a creature. It looked like a poorly made sculpture of a human, only bulgier, bigger, taller, and made from rocks.
“The names Geaneatte,” she smirked waving a stick at me which I think is her wand. “And this guy here is my golem, he’s gonna destroy you,” she said before floating higher as her golem walked towards me.
It made deep huge marks on the ground where it steps it solid foot making the earth tremble by the impact. It towered over me, almost twice my height and it lunged its hand towards where I stood. Unfortunately for it, it moved too slow, even slower than a human, and I simply moved away from it, making it hit the tower instead causing a huge hole on the wall.
“Too slow,” I taunted it, and it turned towards me this time jumping. I realized what it wanted to do, slam me with its body. But again, I dodge it. Then with all my strength, I twisted its head, ripping it apart from its body made of clay and threw it to the witch who was floating above us.
The witch dodged it but the golem stopped moving.
“Decapitated,” I said glancing at the witch that hovered farther than she did before I decapitated her pet. “Now… you’re next.”
“Really,” she smirked and I realized too late the presence behind me as my stomach felt the heavy rock hitting me. In a split second I found myself spitting blood, my back leaning on the wall that I tried to climb.
“Who’s next again?” She asked playfully biting the tip of her wand.
“You bitch,” I cursed and the smile on her face vanished as she commanded the golem to move towards me. I pissed her, but I was pissed as well.
“Kill him!” She yelled in her shrilling voice.
I didn’t say anything. I just looked at her smiling, pissing her more. She commanded the golem to move towards me, hovering just above it, coming near me.
“Crush him!”
I only looked at her and the headless golem in front of me smirking still. The shadow of the rock casted over me as it blocked the sky that had turned red. It lifted its gigantic feet above my head and it started to descend on. Only inches from my face, however, it stopped life it was frozen in time and then, the whole creature turned to dust.
“I warned you, bitch,” I spat the blood that had mixed with my saliva while lifting my body from the ground. I coughed again feeling the bones coming back to normal and the broken muscles and blood vessels repairing themselves.
“Thank, Vanessa,” I told the woman standing near the pale body of the witch that had fallen to the ground. She licked her mouth to remove the blood, and also licked the red liquid that had drenched fingers.
“My pleasure,” she smiled. “Witch blood is so sweet, so rich,” she said before turning around dragging the body. “Too bad I can’t kill it yet, Rhiannon’s order.”
I glanced at her one last time putting the witch over her shoulders before she dashed away.
“Look what overconfidence got you,” I spat to the witch. She almost got me, but she had been too distracted with her nearing victory that her defenses fell and she didn’t see Vanessa preparing to jump at her, when she hovered near the ground.
I turned to the wall and hurried, jumping up. I clawed the brick pulling myself up, until I finally took a step at the top of the tower.
The smell of blood immediately evoked the monster inside me as the wind freely brushed my nose. My eyes turned blood red, as the smell of the sweet mouthwatering druid blood travelled the air. My fangs started to extend outwards, my pulse increased as the hunger and cravings started to surface.
My eyes turned to the origin of the smell and saw a lifeless body on the table. I licked my lips and moved towards the body but, my whole being stiffened. I couldn’t move anything else. My muscles weren’t listening to my head.
“He’s my prey. I eat first,” the woman that looked like Rhiannon smiled at me holding something that called to the monster inside me. I wanted to grab the fist-size object from her and sink my teeth on it to suck it dry. However I felt pain in my chest as tears started to fall from my eyes.
My eyes moved toward the body on the steel table to confirm what I saw. Using all my senses, I listen very carefully but I couldn’t hear anything, I couldn’t’ feel anything.
More tears started to fall from my eyes as a piercing cry came from the wolf that lay naked on the bed. His body full of scratches and he was holding his head crying.
My eyes turned back to the table again, this time the monster within me faded away. Only the humanity remained which made the pain hurt even more. It felt like knives were carving through my chest and crushing my heart.
“Niall!” I called him softly but he didn’t answer, he didn’t even move. How could he, when his heart no longer resides in his body?
“Facere incantadi aeterna,” I heard the woman chanted raising her hand that held the fist-size object. And then she crushed Niall’s heart above her head, her mouth waiting for the blood that spurted from it.
“No!” I yelled but I couldn’t even move my mouth. I stood frozen as I finally see the last drop of Niall’s life.
Why? Why do I have to lose him again? Why is the world so cruel? Why, why is this even more painful than the first time? || Stay tuned for more
Aren’t I evil? Well that ending should get you all to react, right? I don’t speak Latin… it’s all google translate. Forgive me! But hey, it sounded spellish like and awesome.
