“It came with a price, but I will give even my life for him.” ~Zayn

P.S.There will be a shifting from past to present…

19) Scales – Harry

“I need to find him… and fast,” I told myself as the blur images of the trees passed my vision. I followed Tarmac. The crow flew in the sky just meters away from me.

He was the one who showed Niall a place to hide when they escaped the faes, he was the one who gave them food, so he knew where they were.

“Faster… faster Liam,” I heard Eve’s soft voice. “My power weakens, and I will sleep for a while… make haste Liam, I lost my hold on the red witch’s consciousness. She is awake now, and she’s on to Niall. She knew he is the druid, and she’s also a seer.”

I looked up at Tarmac, I realized we were taking the same route to the entrance of the fae kingdom… and suddenly I felt a nudging on my ear.

It felt like a little tickle, not so disturbing at first, until it became persistent. And then it became disturbing.

So I stopped running through the woods and touched my ears checking for some bugs that might have got in when I was running lightning fast. But there was none.

Still, the tickling continued so I focused on my senses to learn where it was coming from. Then I realized it wasn’t a physical tickle. It was inside my head.

“Liam…  Liam,” there was a familiar voice speaking inside my head. “Liam, I can see where you’re going, you better not continue. Stop following the bird,” the male voice continued to speak.

“Who are you?” I asked looking around. I couldn’t feel any presence near me.

“Oh… don’t tell me you still didn’t remember my voice. Eve is releasing your memories right now, I can see her doing so before she sleeps. So better follow my voice, and you will remember me. Or you might not see Niall at all,” the voice informed me.

“Are you threatening me?” I asked even when I don’t feel any threat in the voice.

“No, Liam… or should I say Azval. But then, I prefer your new name, so I will call you that, Liam. And I am not the real threat. The threats are in the track where the bird would take you.”

“Tarmac works for Eve,” I answered. “He would never…”

“Yes, he did,” the voice answered. “But Eve’s power wanes, her protection on the bird nonexistent, and so the red witch binds him by her will. Now makes haste, and follow my voice. I am watching you through the water.”

“No!” I answered and started following Tarmac again.

“Liam,” he yelled and it hurts inside my head. “Eve now sleeps and your memory shall come back,” the voice spoke and suddenly I felt a familiarity with it. “Follow my voice, I am not the enemy.”

And suddenly, I felt like he was telling the truth. And I felt some strong presence on the direction where the crow was leading me.

So instead of following Tarmac, I changed my course. Instead of going northwest of Woodbridge, I went the opposite. I dashed southeast, making sure the bird doesn’t feel me disappear.

“Good, Liam… now just follow my voice… here,” the voice spoke and the images of the past flashed as I continued to follow it.

“That was intense, very educational… and so intense,” blurted a male voice not far from where Quill and I cuddled.

I immediately pulled myself into a sitting position and put Quill behind me covering him with my body. We were still catching our breath from our love making when I heard the strangers voice.

My eyes instantly searched the fields surrounding us, but there was no one around. I let my hearing search for feet waking on the grass of twigs breaking, but none came.

“Who’s there?” I called. “Show yourself!”

“I’m here, idiot dog!” The voice called laughing.

“It’s just him…” Quill stood up fixing himself. We did it without removing all our clothes, so it was easy to fix.

“Him… who?” I asked letting my eyes wander. I still couldn’t find anyone.

“A friend of mine,” Quill answered walking near the lake.

I followed him, and the more we came nearer the lake, the more I saw who my beloved was talking about. It was a person, swimming in the lake.

So that was why I didn’t feel him. He was swimming gently, gracefully that not even a single water droplet splashed

When I observe closer, something sparkly was on the person’s feet. And suddenly, the golden haired boy in the lake didn’t actually look like a normal boy.  It was a fish.

“What is he?” I asked and Quill waved for the fish boy to come near. He did swim near us, moving so gracefully in the water, sparkling under the sun’s rays.

“It’s a merman,” Quill answered. “They’re shifters just like your people, but they prefer to be in their natural form which is this, half human… half fish.”

“Oooow… so they’re shifters like me?”

“Something like that,” Quill answered, his silver hair sparkling with the sun and dancing with the wind. We were standing near the lake and the fish-boy was already on our feet.

“You’re such a knavish fingerling, aren’t you,” Quill bowed down and ruffled the blonde boy’s hair while it giggled. “How many times did I tell you not to just come out of the lake whenever you want.”

“But Puck said he’d meet me here,” the fish boy reasoned pouting. He even waved a huge shell, to Niall. “I was calling him through hear…”

“So where is that trickster fairy?” Quill blurted looking around.

“Fairy?” I repeated. “I thought…” I never knew Quill knew people and being I haven’t even seen. I mean, yes I knew faeries exist and the druids meet with them, but at our lake?

“Puck… puck!” The boy shouted on the shell but then pouted after maybe not receiving a feedback. “He’s ignoring me. But I swear. We were just talking before I heard you scream…” the boy reasoned again swimming back and forth.

“Scream?” Quill’s eyebrow furrowed.

“Well, I thought you needed help. I mean you were screaming very loud. You were saying something like harder and faster, and you were… screaming things. So I crept closer and then I found you. But then I realized you weren’t actually in trouble, so I just watched.”

And that was when I saw Quill turning red. And I almost cracked up hearing those things from the fish boy.

“You watched?” Blurted Quill. “How long where you watching?”

“I don’t know… but you were screaming really loud when I came to the surface,” the boy answered. “And he was,” the boy pointed at me. “He was on top of you and was doing… something…”

“Stop!” Quill blurted. I laughed which earned me an elbow on the stomach.

“Don’t worry, I learned a lot from watching,” the boy smiled amused. He might have not realized what he just saw.

“Don’t tell anyone about this,” Quill commanded. “Alright, you naughty fingerling…”

“Huh… but why?” The boy pouted. “My friend’s would love to hear it… I mean, we never knew you could use it like that to tickle somebody and make them scream. And I always talk to them about my adventures out here in the surface, and they always like it. I think they may like this one, this knew knowledge.”

“Just don’t tell anyone, or I’ll be angry!” Quill threatened.

“But… but! How come?” The boy pouted, his eyes popping like a puppy. “Can I at least tell Ariel or maybe father?”

“No!” Quill almost blurted. “Not your sister and especially not king Triton, okay!”

“Okay,” the boy said sadly. I even feel bad for him. Quill was being stern, and I’ve never even saw him chide a child before. It was cute actually. He’ll make a really cute parent.

“Is that a promise?” I heard Quill making sure. “You have to promise me never to tell anyone, or I will be angry and I won’t be your friend anymore.”

“But if I promise… will you do it with me too?” The boy asked with his cute puppy eye. “Will you let me tickle you with my peewee, maybe I can tickle you better than he can.”

“No!” I answered the boy who glared daggers towards me. I feel offended. “And no one can tickle him better than I can. You don’t even have what I have.”

“I wasn’t asking you!” I said. “I was asking Quill. And I so do have what you have… only a little.”

I looked at Quill and he was turning pale. It was so cute.

“Well… you see, my little fingerling… only adults do it, so you’ll have to grow up first,” Quill explained trying to be very vague. “You’ll have to let your peewee grow big.”

“As big as his?” The boy glared at me and I snickered.

“As if you could grow it as big as mine,” I commented and Quill elbowed me again.

“Yes, as big as his,” Quill chuckled.

“Okay… I won’t say anything but you’ll have to promise to do it with me when I grow up, right? Will you, will you… when my peewee is as big as his?”

“You wish!” I rolled my eyes to the boy. I know it’s childish but he’s hitting on my lover and I can’t just let it go. “You wouldn’t,” I warned Quill who has an amused smile on his lips.

“Well?” The boy swan back and forth on his back, lying on his hand… “Promise me, or I will tell everyone,” he threatened.

“Fine, I promise,” Quill answered looking amused as well.

“You didn’t,” I pulled him closer.

“It’s a kid… so long as he won’t tell anyone, he will soon forget,” Quill answered.

“Owww… and he just wanted to tickle me,” Quill told me innocently.

“Tickle,” I snickered as we watched the boy saw in the lake and then he dove, and vanished. He was sticking his tongue out to me whenever our eyes met.

“So he lives in the lake?” I asked Quill and he shook his head.

“You weren’t supposed to see him. No one is supposed to know they exist,” he answered.

“They?” I asked. “There is more of him? So are they like the angels, or the demons?”

“They are as old as we druids and are believe to be extinct,” he answered. “But tell no one, okay, love. Only druids were supposed to know about them and where they lived.”

“Okay, I won’t ask any further,” I said and kissed my lover as we went back to their secret village.

The images stopped flooding my mind when I finally came to a place where sea water crashes on huge boulders.

“Where are you?” I called.

“Here,” the voice answered and so I followed it behind a huge rock. And there stood the boy, well he used to be. He had already grown from being a fish boy, into a young man with feet.

“It’s good to see you again, Azval… or should I say Liam now,” he smiled as the orange sun shines on the speck of blonde hair on his head.

“I’m glad you followed my voice, or you might have encountered a lot of witches on your way to Quill, I mean Niall.”

“On whose side are you, Zayn?” I asked.

“I’m always on Quill’s side,” he answered. “Like Quill told me before the war… I didn’t go out of the water, I didn’t do anything… I just watch through the water scrying. I watch him die. I watch him be born. But now I can’t watch him die again. So I decided to befriend him, befriend Niall.”

He dropped the shell he was holding, which I assumed was what he used to link with my mind.

“We are friends again, best friends to be exact… and he calls me Zayn.”

“I know. I saw you cling to him like leech,” I snickered. “But what do you mean die? Niall isn’t going to die, not in my watch.”

“Haven’t Eve told you about the prophecy?” He asked and then I remembered. “It says…” he continued saying a part of it.

“A Druid, the last blood shall spill

Against the holy mother’s will

To cast a spell, the lunar bane

To make goddess’ power wane”

“And to prevent that from happening, there must not be a druid on the night of the blood moon. And there is one way to do so, kill the druid,” he told me.

I felt my teeth grit and my fist form into a ball. They would dare hurt my Quill, my Niall.

“But Harry is with him,” I answered. “Surely, he won’t let anything happened to Niall.”

“But he doesn’t know their plan,” he answered back. “The dog is clueless.”

“Then we should hurry,” I said and suddenly a sea weed hit my face. It was some long slimy silver leafy seaweed that sparkles in the sun. It smelt so much like salt and fish.

“Remember that?” He asked referring to the sea grass as he started to strip. “Eat it, and follow me… I’ll lead you to a cave that leads to the waterfall where the crow brought Niall and Harry. I just hope we aren’t too late.

He started walking to the beach, naked, revealing his tan body and some tattoo on it.

I tried kicked several stones on my way and dropped my body on the grass under the shadow of a tree. I failed again in convincing my father to protect the druid’s village. He still refused to mobilize his forces.

I was waiting for Niall at the same spot where we always made love. And suddenly I heard a loud disturbance on the water. I pushed myself up and saw the water splashing wildly.

I walked near the water and saw the boy swimming carelessly on the surface of the water towards the bank. Water splashed everywhere.

“Quill,” he cried. “Quill, Quill,” he called as he reach the land.
I walked towards the bank to where he was.

“Hey… fish-boy, didn’t Quill tell you not to appear carelessly here,” I chide but he ignored me.

The boy acted like he didn’t even see me. He pulled himself up and I saw him changed. His tail changed into a pair of skinny legs, and his hair changed from blond to black with only a peck of blond in front.

“Woah!” I said amazed. But at the same time shock by how he was acting, like it was life and death situation.

He stood up and took a few wobbly steps, but then he fell to the ground. He tried standing up again but failed miserably.”

“Wait… calm down,” I said helping him up but he slapped me hand away.

“I want to see Quill. I need to see Quill… I need to hurry.” He cried and I saw tears stream from his face.

“He’s coming here.” I told him so he would calm down. We’ll just have to wait a little longer.

“No!” He answered and stood up again. But like the few former attempts, he fell down hard.

“Why?” I asked restraining him on further hurting himself and making him stay on the ground. “Why?”

“I need to see him now!” he answered which made no more sense than his first explanations.”

“What’s with the hurry?” I asked again, holding him tight and steady while he struggled.

“They are in danger,” he answered sobbing. “

“In danger?” I repeated.

“Soldiers, they are coming… they are going to kill the druids.” He explained as he stopped struggling.

“We know,” I told him, hugging him. I knew he was concerned for Quill, but he was acting rashly.

“We already know about the humans attacking. But it won’t happen yet, we still have more than five days before the attack,” I explained to him so he would relax.

“No!” He blurted struggling again.

“Quill saw it happened,” I told him.

“And I saw,” he answered. “Quill teaches me things, and he taught me how to water scry. And I saw them, soldiers, and they are very near Quill’s village.”

“That can’t be,” I shook my head.

The kid moved back to the water, his tail came back… come here, watch,” he said as he disturbed the water with his hands. And when the water calmed, the boy spoke words I couldn’t understand. Then images of humans in armors came into view. They were marching only a good two hours away from the village.

And then the images vanished.

“They are here,” he said sobbing. “They are near.”

“Maybe you were seeing the future,” I told him.

“No!” The boy blurted. “Water scrying does not show the future. It is only limited to showing what is happening at the very moment. And that was the present. The druids are in danger.”

“Then we have to warn them,” I stood up. “I have to go,” I told him but he held my feet.

“I have a faster way to the village,” he said. “Wait just a little bit,” he told me and then dove under the water. Not a second later, he came back up and threw me some seaweed. It was sparkling silver, like the color of his scale.

“What is this?” I ask holding it away from my face. It smelt like fish and the sea, salty.

“It helps you breath underwater,” he informed me. “Eat it and then jumped in the water. You don’t need to remove your armor. I’ll guide you to a cave that leads to a sea under the cliff where the druid village is.”

“Then why didn’t you just go there, to warn them instead of coming here?” I asked.

“I can’t even walk here,” the boy sounded disappointed. “Imagine climbing up there.” And then I joined him.

“I don’t like traveling with you,” I blurted but chewed on the sea-grass Zayn had given me.

“So how did you manage to get up here and find Niall?” I asked walking to the sea, toward him.

“After Quill met us on the beach and admitted that their elders had resigned to surrender, he also told me never to show up in the surface. So I continued to watch, I watch by water scrying even if it broke my heart to see him die. But I also knew about him being born again, so I kept watch. And I kept watching the woman who called back Quill’s souls, Rhiannon or Eve… and I saw her give him as a child to his human parents. I also saw you be put to sleep by Rhiannon after you transformed humans into vampires and founded your kingdom, naming yourself Vampire Lord.

So I decided that I have to protect Quill, and so I asked my father to permit me in land but he didn’t let me. So I made a deal with a witch, and she gave me what I wanted.

“What?” I asked.

“The ability to walk like a human and stay in land for as long as I please. Normally, we can only stay in land for a limited time, but now I can be here as long as I want to.” He smiled. “It came with a price, but I will give even my life for him.”

“Oh…”

“We don’t have time to talk more,” he told me. And suddenly his haired turned gold and his legs turned silver until it was a fish tail. Three slices which I assumed was his gills appeared on his right neck just under his ear and small fins appeared on his arms.

“Hold my hand, I’ll guide you there,” he said offering me his webbed hand and I took it. We’ve done this before. Although I knew it was very pleasant.

And then he pulled me down the sea.

At first I felt like drowning, but soon my brain realized that I could actually breathe. Zayn pulled me deeper, and I saw fishes pass by us. Things were still clearer, but they got hazy and darker the more we go deeper. Until everything was turning blacker and darker and I couldn’t see anymore.

“Hold on my back,” he said telepathically pulling me up and wrapping my arms on his neck. “But don’t bite…” he said and then he sped up with me clinging on his back.

I couldn’t see anything, but I knew we were entering an underwater cave that might be the shortcut he was talking about.

He moved fast and I felt the occasional fish bumping on my head, and some seaweed getting attached to my neck. It wasn’t really a good experience, not like snorkeling or diving.

And I really wished it would end very soon. And like my wish was heard, slowly, I felt him going up and then my vision started returning.

“We’re here,” he whispered as we surface behind a huge rock. I pulled myself up slowly, hiding since I had sensed enemies, and there are more of them loitering around.

“The vampire should be near here, search for him,” a woman was yelling. It was a woman sitting on a floating broom dressed in red. She hovered near the water fall, but far enough for me not to reach.

“I smell something, behind the rocks,” one man pointed on the rock where we hid. He was sniffing the air and wrinkling his nose… a werewolf.

“Come,” I felt Zayn nudging me to go back in the water but I didn’t. I am going to fight.

“Liam… Azval,” he whispered and soon something hit the boulder making a huge explosion and a soft nudging.

“I’m swimming down,” the merman said and then dove under the water. But I didn’t follow.

They aren’t the only one with allies. Now that my memory is back, I remember my power as the vampire lord again. And I can call them, my first converts.

“Virgil, Varick, Vestia, Vannessa, Vladimir…” I focused in the link that connects me to the first five of the vampires I created.

“Lord?” Virgil was the first to answer. I knew from witches that attacked Eve’s mansion that he temporarily sits on my thrown. “Lord? I listen.”

“Lord…” Vlad and Vestia then responded.

And lastly, Varick and Vanessa. “Our lord, we worry, we haven’t heard from you.”

“Find me!” I commanded. “We go war!” || Stay tuned for more

Is it becoming overrated? I think I’m making a mess of this story … but I just can’t help it. I was supposed to reveal Zayn being a merman later, but I just can’t wait to put him in the story. And I feel like he was being left out.

And I also want some action, so yeah… “WE GO TO WAR!” (lol)… Anyway, I think this story is coming near its end. I mean, I think the most would be up to chapter 25…
