Do you believe in the impossible?

If not, then you better start believing, because the impossible is about to happen to Nico and I.

There are a lot of things in our world that we could never explain, that we would never comprehend. I didn’t believe in such things in the past. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I had no reason to.

Then, I met Nico. And the first in the series of impossible events happened in my life; I fell in love with him, with a boy like me. After that, one by one, the impossible kept on coming into my life.

The revelation of the truth that I, indeed, disappeared on the lake I used to swim in four years ago was simply the beginning of it all, and what was waiting for me, was something even bigger, even more impossible, something beyond my comprehension.

With everything that was happening in my life, and with everything that was yet to happen, there was only one thing that kept me strong; Nico’s love.

Nico’s love… Somehow saying those words still makes my heart flutter. Just thinking about it gives me butterflies in the stomach. If there’s one impossible thing that I am really grateful for, it’s Nico loving me.

I never thought that I would hear those words from Nico that soon. I even thought that I would never get to hear it. When I did, everything around me seized to matter. I was drowning in joy, and I loved the feeling.

But… even that love would not be enough to prepare me for what was yet to come.

It all started days before the homecoming/Halloween dance. Everyone was excited; that year, every student in attendance must wear a costume indicated in the ticket that they bought. It was exciting for most of the students, not for me though.

Why? Because it combines two of the things I hate the most; formal dances and wearing a costume. Whoever thought of that idea for the homecoming dance must be really out to annoy me.

I know, I could just not go and save myself from getting annoyed over such a thing, but it’s not that easy. Because unlike me, Nico loves those two things.

Before I could even tell him that I had no plans in attending the dance, Nico had already purchased the ticket for the two of us, he even was already planning how to match our two totally different costumes.

Nico bought tickets indicating a medieval prince costume and a comic superhero costume. Frankly, I can’t decide which of the two ideas I hate the most. I would rather go naked than to wear any of those costumes.

“What about this; I’ll go as the medieval prince all in black, and you go as black Spiderman?” Nico said as we ate our lunch together.

“I already wear tight swimwear every day during swim practice, I don’t want to wear tights during the dance too,” I complained.

“Then I’ll go as the medieval prince in blue and red and you’ll go as Superman.”

“Wow, an underwear over tights, that’s way better,” I said sarcastically.

“You two are going nowhere,” Levi complained. “Why doesn’t Nico just wear a superhero costume and Kyle wear the medieval prince one,” He suggested.

“There’s too many garments in the medieval prince costume, plus a cape. It would be a hurdle just to walk,” I complained.

“That’s why,” Nico said.

“I don’t think Kyle would agree on wearing any superhero costume, considering that most of them wear tights,” Evan said. “I’ll even bet that he’ll find things that he doesn’t like in any costume.” He was right. I just really hate wearing any costume.

“I also figured that out,” Nico sighed.

“Then why don’t I just swap my ticket with Kyle. I think there’s a bigger chance that he’ll wear this costume,” Perry said, suddenly appearing behind me.

“Perry! I thought you’re not going to the dance.” I was actually pretty surprised to hear that he bought a ticket.

“Well, the plan changed…” He trailed off.

“You mean Claire agreed to go with you,” I said as-a-matter-of-factly.

“No… what made you say that…? I didn’t even invite her. What made you even think that I want to go with her…?” Perry said defensively, but his blushing cheeks were enough to confirm my suspicion.

“Tsk… what a lousy liar…” I teased.

“Anyway, here’s my ticket, what do you guys think?” Perry asked and then showed Nico and his friends the ticket.

“Ohhh… this might work…” Nico said with a dubious smile.

And that’s how I ended up standing in front of the body mirror in my room, staring at myself while I wear this ridiculously body-fitting policeman costume. “What the hell… Why is this so tight…?” I complained as I pulled the fabric off my skin. I agreed on wearing that costume because it seemed so straightforward and simple; a slack, a shirt and a cap. If I knew that it would show my body off like this, then I wouldn’t have agreed on wearing it.

I must say, though, I looked good in this costume. Boasting aside, my swimmer figure was fully extenuated by that costume.

“Drew, are you done?” Mom asked outside my door. “Your prince is already outside waiting for you.”

“Mom…” I complained. It felt really weird, hearing that from my own mother. Although the fact that she’s very supportive of my relationship with Nico was something I’m really happy about.

“Come down when you’re ready. Don’t keep your prince waiting,” Mom teased again as she left my door.

I’m really thankful that my Mom is there for Nico and me. She’s like a guide to our young love. I hoped that one day, Nico’s family would be the same. She’s also right, Nico is my prince in more sense than one.

Nico did asked me if I wanted to be formally introduced to his family, but I refused. I just felt that it wasn’t the right moment yet. His family is not like mine, and we both knew that his Dad could be very strict. Nico and I agreed that we’ll take one small step at a time. We’ll tell his family once we see the right timing.

I put the police cap on and then breathed deeply. Then I walked out of my room.

When I walked out of our front door, I saw Nico outside, sitting on the hood of his blue convertible. I was awestruck the moment I laid my eyes on him. Nico was wearing a black and white elaborate medieval prince costume, complete with a thick and long cape. The costume was so well made that he looked like a real prince plucked out of a painting.

Nico looked unbelievably handsome in his costume. He looked like a real prince, no doubt. With his tall and slender figure, the costume was so perfect on him. Just seeing him like that made me blush. I couldn’t believe that the handsome prince in front of my eyes was mine. I can’t believe that he’s really in love with me.

Nico stood up and walked towards me when he saw me walk out of the door. The way his cape flew behind him made him look like a movie character.

“Drew…” Nico muttered. “Wow…” He said. “I’ll gladly be caught if you’re the one who’s going to arrest me,” Nico said. “I mean, wow… you look… sexy…” I blushed when I heard Nico say that. I just didn’t know how to reply to such aa comment.

“You’re one to talk. You look like you just came out of a movie set.”

“So, you like it?” He asked as he moved closer.

“Well…” I blushed.

“You like it…” Nico said proudly as he placed his hands on my waist. “I like your costume too. You look really ravishing, I could just eat you right here.”

“Hey… what are you saying?” I blushed even more.

Nico chuckled and then moved his face closer to mine. We were about to kiss when we heard my Mom cleared her throat. “Isn’t it a bit early for that?” She asked.

“Ms. Husher…!” Nico was surprised. He instantly moved a little bit away when he saw my Mom. His surprised reaction was actually a bit funny. He looked like he was caught doing something really bad.

Mom actually laughed. “I told you, you can call me Faye, or Mom,” Mom said. That comment made Nico blush really red. Even his embarrassed expression looked really handsome. I feel so lucky that Nico is mine, all mine.

“You’re making him embarrassed, Mom,” I said and then held Nico’s hand. “We’re going ahead,” I said and then lead Nico back to his car.

“Wait!” Mom called. “Let me take a picture first,” She said and made Nico and I stand in front of our door. Nico placed his arm around my waist and then pulled me closer, then Mom took the picture. It felt really great, to have my Mom’s full support of my relationship with Nico.

“I’ll take care of him, don’t worry,” Nico told my Mom before we left.

“Mmm…” My Mom nodded with a smile. “Have fun, you two.”

When Nico and I arrived at the campus, all we had in mind was to have fun that night, it never crossed our minds that something that would change our lives was about to happen.

“Finally! You’re here,” Perry approached us, wearing a Green Arrow costume. “Wow, Kyle that really suits you,” He said. “Anyway, just a warning; Michael spiked the punch, so be careful or you might get drunk,” Perry said and then drunk from the glass he was holding.

“Yeah, we should be careful about getting drunk,” I said and then took the glass away from Perry. “It’s too early to drink,” I said sternly.

“Tsk… The old man is back…” He complained.

“You better not get another spiked punch or I tell your parents,” I said and then grinned at him.

“What’s this? Are you my chaperone?” He complained.

“Stop complaining and just listen to Drew,” Nico added.

“Wow! Are you two my parents now?” Perry reacted. “So, who’s my Mommy and who’s my Daddy?” He asked teasingly. Nico actually laughed at that, but I wasn’t that amused. I smacked Perry on the head. “That hurts, Mommy!” He said.

“What?!” I asked and looked at Perry sharply.

“I was just joking…” He said and then laughed nervously.

“So, where’s your date?” Nico asked. “Where’s Claire?”

“Hey, not you too?” Perry complained.

“Oh, I almost forgot about that. Where’s the love of your life?” I asked teasingly.

“I shouldn’t have helped you two make up, now you’re ganging up on me,” Perry complained.

“Of course, we’re a couple after all,” Nico said proudly, held my hand and then showed it off to Perry.

“Tsk…” Perry complained.

The whole gym was packed with students wearing costumes of all kinds. From princes to witches to robots to superheroes to cartoon characters and even zombies.

Nico and I walked around the gym and I noticed students staring, especially the girls. I’m very certain that they wanted to approach Nico, to talk to him or even take a picture of him, but as usual, Nico was emitting that unapproachable aura to everyone else.

“You’re scaring everyone, you know,” I told Nico. “You may be wearing a prince costume, but you’re emitting the aura of an evil overlord.” I added.

“It doesn’t really matter to me,” Nico said nonchalantly. “No one would bother us this way. I could see how those girls are looking at you, if I leave you alone, then I’m sure they would try to get their hands on you in an instant,” Nico said.

“What are you talking about? If you’re not so inhospitable, then they would be all over you right now. I think you should be worried about yourself.”

Nico sighed. “How clueless you are. I think I made a mistake, I shouldn’t have made you wear the body fitting costume,” Nico said.

I chuckled at Nico.

At one point during that night, I was approached by a girl wearing a reporter costume. Nico was at the table while I was getting something to drink.

“You’re Kyle Stevenson, right?” She asked as she approached me.

“Yeah…” I replied with a smile.

“I watched you at the exhibition swimming match. You’re really great,” she said.

“Thanks…” I said and looked at Nico’s direction. Thankfully he wasn’t looking, or I’ll surely get into trouble.

“Great costume. You look really good,” she said. “Say, can I take a picture with you…?” She asked shyly.

“Ummm… sure…” I said hesitantly. I figured it was best to get it over with as quickly as possible before Nico notices it and I get into trouble again.

The girl took out her phone and handed it to me to take the picture, then moved closer to me. To my surprise, she wrapped her arms around my waist before I took the picture.

“What are you doing, officer?” I heard a very familiar threatening voice from behind me. I looked around, and surely Nico was behind me, staring with very sharp eyes.

“Ahh… this…” I tried explaining as I handed the phone back to the girl.

“You’re done, right?” Nico asked in a threatening tone. “So you can go now,” he added.

The girl practically ran away. “Hey, that’s not very nice. You scared her.”

“And you’re too nice. Why can’t you say no? I knew something like this would happen if I leave you alone,” Nico asked impatiently.

“It’s just a picture… besides, I didn’t expect that she would hug me…”

Nico sighed. “It’s because of that costume,” Nico said. “You look too sexy in that police uniform that those girls just want to get their hands on you.”

“What?”

“Really, I need to do something about that. Ahh… I know,” Nico said and then took off his long and thick cape. Nico then stepped in front of me as he put his cape on my back. “There, that way no one would lust over you,” He said as he wrapped me with his cape. My whole costume was basically hidden behind his cape.

“What a ridiculous idea…” I complained.

Nico then held the cape with both of his hands and then pulled me closer to him. “Let me tell you this…” He whispered on my ears. “I’m the only on who’s allowed to lust over your body…” Those words made me really embarrassed. My whole body suddenly felt so hot.

“Are you a pervert…?” I replied nervously.

“I’m not pervert,” Nico said with a huge smile. “I’m just in love,” he said, then blushed.

I blushed as well.

Nico is in love with me.

He loves me.

The happiness that I felt couldn’t be contained at all. To drown in such happiness out of love is the single most amazing sensation that anyone could feel.

Nico took my hand and we were about to go back to our friends, but then the impossible happened.

The weather turned for the worst, it started raining heavily and a loud thunder boomed. Then, there was a sudden black out and everyone started panicking.

“Calm down,” Nico told me as he gripped my hand tighter. “I’m here…” He said reassuringly.

Suddenly, the whole gym went quiet, totally silent. The only noise we could hear were the drops of rain outside. Then a faint light appeared on stage.

“Ahh… haa… What a waste…” A young female voice said. “You almost had your happy ending.”

“It’s your fault to begin with,” A young male voice replied as another faint light appeared on stage. “If you didn’t took a fancy on him, then this wouldn’t happen.”

“Ha? Why is it my fault? Isn’t this your fault? If you didn’t take him away…” The female voice said.

I couldn’t fully explain it, but the lights seemed to be alive. And it looked like the voices were coming from each of the lights.

“You mean, saved him from you,” the male voice interjected.

“If you didn’t take him away, then his fate wouldn’t be this messed-up. Why did you have to take him there in the first place? Because they met before their fated time, everything is a mess now…”

“I didn’t bring him there, he got there by himself. I guess their tie really is that strong.”

“That’s not the issue here.” A new light appeared, a brighter and bigger light. The voice coming from it was of a more mature female. “The issue is; you two messed with the order. I thought that bringing him back to his origin would fix the order, but the damage of their meeting is too big.”

“Sorry, I was just trying to save him,” The young male said.

“Sorry, he was just too adorable…” the younger female said.

“The damage has been dealt with, to the order, and to these young men’s fate. The only thing we can do now, is to fix what was damaged,” The older female said.

I was speechless, I was frozen at that moment. Anyone would be when such an impossible event happens right in front of your very eyes. I don’t even know how to react that moment. What are these things? Ghosts? Aliens? Fairies?

“Drew…” Nico muttered. “Look around you…” Nico said nervously.

My heart almost stopped when I did looked around. The floor of the gym was wet, but that’s not what made me really frightened. Everyone around us was frozen, literally frozen.

“What in the world…?” I muttered.

“Ahh… He’s not frozen, that one…” The younger female said.

“As I thought… their tie is really strong…” the young male said.

“But that tie is about to be broken, because of your meddling,” The older female said. “You know what happens when such a strong tie is broken, right? Death would come.”

“We can’t let that happen…” The young female said. “Those guys would gloat in our faces again…”

“And whose fault do you think that is?” The young male asked condescendingly.

“Ha? What do you mean by that?” The young female retaliated.

“That’s enough, you two,” the older female said in a calm tone.

“What are you? What’s happening here?” Nico suddenly asked. I was pulled out of my trance with Nico’s voice. I was so frightened at that moment that I couldn’t even speak. Nico was really brave, to be able to speak up to those unknown entities. “What did you do with everyone? What do you want? Why don’t you show yourselves?”

“Ahhh… for someone who just got entangled in all this, you sure ask a lot of questions,” the young female said.

“Can’t you be a little bit nicer, since this is all your fault to begin with?” The young male said. “We’re here to fix the damage in the order caused by the incident four years ago.”

“Four years ago… could you mean…?” Nico asked nervously.

“That night I disappeared…” I muttered.

“Because you traveled more than once, your fate is all messed up now,” The older female said. “But it’s not your fault. It’s all because of these two younglings… We were hoping that nothing would change, but unfortunately something very vital did.” I figured out that they were talking to me majority of the time.

“I don’t understand…” I said.

“Don’t try to,” The young female said.

“It’s not time for you to understand everything yet,” The young male added.

“We’ll let you know this, though. The tie you two share is strong, very strong. That’s why he’s not frozen like everyone else, because you two share one fate. Unfortunately, your tie is on the verge on breaking, and when that tie breaks, one of you will be greeted by death,” The older female said.

“What? You’re saying that one of us is about to die…” Nico sounded as surprised and confused as I was.

“Yes. One of you will die soon,” the young female said.

“That’s why we’re here, to make sure that your tie does not break,” the young male said.

“We don’t usually interfere with your kind, but since the actions of these two caused the weakening of your tie, we decided to personally give you our aid,” the older female said.

“Your tie weakened because of two things; you traveling more than once, and you two meeting before your fated time,” the young female explained.

“That’s why we’re planning to fix that,” The young male said.

“We say fix, but you’ll be the one who’ll be making most of the work. Interfering more than this is unprohibited, after all,” The older female said.

“Your goal is simple,” the young female said.

“It’s simple and yet very difficult,” the young male said.

“Wait. We don’t understand what you’re saying! Explain properly! What are you?” Nico protested. He was afraid, I could feel that from his touch. I was too. I was really afraid too.

“You must fix your tie,” the older female said.

Then, the light those three voices were emitting from became brighter, stronger.

“Nico…” I called Nico’s name. I was very scared. No matter how hard I tried, my mind just couldn’t process what was happening.

“Drew… It’s alright… I’m here with you. I won’t let you go. I will protect you,” Nico said and then embraced me.

“So, never let each other go,” The three voices said in unison. “If you want to fix your tie and bring back you real fate, there’s only one thing that you have to do… you need to love all over again,” they said.

Then the light blinded us and everything went blank.
