A Touch of Inspiration
There was something about late nights that people loved. The crave of pulse, of the silent world where most of the population were in between dreams. Jaehwan stood between two coffee machines as he flipped through a magazine that someone had left an hour ago. A silent yawn had escaped his mouth as he tried to concentrate on the words that were on the paper. He wouldn’t say that this magazine was the best, because it wasn’t, but it was the only thing keeping him from getting lost in the boredom of the hours that seemed to stretch for years.
Jaehwan was deprived from sleep, his eyes felt so dry, they longed for moisture, for its eyelids to rebel and close so that sleep could come and drift its owner to wonderland. School was so important to him; he would spend most of his time doing everything he could to make sure he could attend school and realize his dreams. Because he couldn’t concentrate during late afternoons, he was willing to get morning classes which best worked for him because that allowed him to work late nights to early mornings.
It had been so hard for him to find a job that worked around his schedule and so close to his dorm. Luckily his roommate’s best friend worked at a café that were looking for employees who were interested in working the night shift. Thanks to his decision to work at night, he found himself drowsy and unable to concentrate during the day, mostly during the days he had to work when he had a class.
But when whenever he came to work, his drowsiness and want of sleep would disappear, and the night became his energy, the people coming in were so interesting that it was like he was watching a movie.
Jaehwan couldn’t help but fall in love with the night. Some people stayed longer on their laptops, browsing while sipping their coffees. Couples had deep conversations, and some people stopped to eat something from their long hour drive through highways. That was the power of a place who led its doors to people who cannot go to sleep, too many problems on their mind, to the people who found their creativity at a crazy time where the vibe shifted to something inexplicable, a feeling that sometimes, even himself, he couldn’t come up with an explanation.
The door chimed indicating that it was time for Jaehwan to put the magazine down and get rid of his sleepiness. Tonight, the traffic of people were slow. There wasn’t a lot to view and Jaehwan, wanting to get rid of his sleepiness, had thought a magazine would amuse his eyes. He even felt like leaving. Sleeping would be more interesting than this.
A yawn had escaped his mouth but he quickly composed himself. Obviously, the magazine had the opposite effect. Looking at the words as lines while he read the magazine had truly made him see vertical lines. It had taken him a while to see clearly again, and when he did, he was ready to work.
Standing over the cash register, Jaehwan watched an old lady come in, a smile so sweet it made Jaehwan smile. The old lady was a regular customer, although she came at different hours every time she came to the cafe. It made Jaehwan wonder if she couldn’t sleep or there was something that was troubling her.
The lady took her wallet before she spoke and that was an indication that Jaehwan was supposed to ask her for her order.
“Hi, what can I get you?” Jaehwan began to tap on the screen, his fingers automatically going to what she usually orders.
“The usual. This time I don’t want a lot of sugar.” Jaehwan nodded, his finger already on the press button of her total. Without asking for her total, the lady took her debit card and began to pay for her order.
Once the lady paid, Jaehwan returned back to his magazine. He wasn’t a minute into the next line he had been stuck reading for a while, when his friend, and co-worker, Jae came in through the back, tying his apron on his waist.
“Dude, I’m fucking beat!”
Jaehwan smiled. “How did your test go?”
Jae grunted, throwing his head back. “Horrible. Nothing that I studied was on the test! I am definitely going to flunk this class.”
“Didn’t you read Rate My Professor? That site saved me from getting shitty teachers.” It was true. That site is saving his butt. If he hadn’t gotten through that website he would of flunked a couple of classes already. If that class is easy, you bet he’ll get that class in an instant. He’s trying to learn, not to struggle.
“I did!” Jae leaned his hand on the counter,” those people lied. Easy my ass.” Jaehwan raises his eyebrow at him. He must of not checked correctly. The coffee was almost done, he just has to add a little bit of sugar. “Did others tell you about how the teacher was?”
“I didn’t ask. That’s besides the point, Jaehwan. He’s supposed to put on the test what we know, not what we haven’t learned.”
“Very true. Dude, I don’t know what to tell you. The semester is over and getting a W is really bad on your transcript. Hopefully you pass it,” Jaehwan told Jae as he puts the coffee on the platter.
Jaehwan feels bad for Jae. That had happened to him a couple semesters ago. The teacher had been so unorganized, tests were taken without warning, and the professor had gotten so offended when people complain about the professor’s teaching methods. He’s so glad that at least he passed with a high C, even if he got low grades on two tests.
“Thank you dear,” the old lady says, patting his hand. Jaehwan gives her a smile and then begins to back away from her table. “Enjoy.”
As he turn around, his foot stepped on someone’s foot. “I am so sorry,” Jaehwan apologized immediately. “No worries. You’re a waiter, right? Can you take my order?”
“I’m everything around here but sure, what would you like?”
“Do you have cakes?” Jaehwan took a second before responding. His eyes couldn’t stop looking at the guy. He felt like he had seen him before. Seeing the guy’s blank expression made him forget that this cafe didn’t actually had waiters so he had to actually go to the counter.
“Actually, you have to get in line to order,” Jaehwan told him, stumbling over his words, his hands nervously rubbing against his jeans.
“Oh , okay. Then, I’ll just… go over there.” The guy’s eyes turn bigger, and his body jerked, hesitating before going over to the register.
“Okay,” Jaehwan said silently, speeding over to the counter. He didn’t know why he was nervous, or why his stomach was acting weird. It had been a long time that he had felt this sensation. It wasn’t that the guy was cute, or that his hair was parted the way he liked guys with that hairstyle. It was the poker face. The innocent look he had. The way he was looking at him, with curiosity, just as he was as well.
“Do you have cakes?” The guy asked again.
“The variety of cakes is up on the poster. I do say the vanilla cake is so good you might want another slice,” he awkwardly chuckled, refusing to look at the reaction of the guy.
“I’ll have the vanilla cake then accompanied by mocha coffee, a lot of sugar.” The guy without looking at the poster, took his wallet out and a couple of bills from the wallet.
“Would that be it?” Jaehwan knew the answer because he had already said it, but his ears were craving the voice of the stranger. He seemed like those guys who didn’t speak much, but still had a lot to say from the way their body was poised.
“Yes.”
“Okay,” Jaehwan said, his voice raspy. “That will be ten dollars and forty five cents.”
The guy handed him eleven dollars. Jaehwan, with both his hands, grabbed the bills, and by accident his skin brushes against his. He felt the guy’s electricity and he looked at him, his face still hard to read. Did he feel his heart skip a beat like his did.
Of, course he didn’t, Jaehwan tells himself. Not everyone is gay. You’ll just end in heartbreak if you illusion yourself with a false crush that will never respond for those feelings. “Here’s your change.” As he handed the guy the money, Jaehwan made sure he didn’t touch his skin.
“Thanks.” The guy lightly smiled and went back his table where they first had encounter each other.
“Woah, well that was awkward,” Jae said behind Jaehwan.
“Shut up.” Jaehwan turned around and closed his eyes. His body was filled with energy, his heart beating loud, giving him a weird sensation. “I thought I was going to embarrass myself even further.”
“Aww, Jaehwan has a crush,” Jae teased him, grinning, his hands holding a rag as he playfully hit Jaehwan on his chest.
“Shut up.” Jaehwan, buried his face on his hands, mortified. How embarrassing.
The guy had drank his coffee, while his cake had been verily touched. His eyes were stuck on a paper that sat there untouched, the pencil in between the guy’s fingers, not moved at all. Jaehwan observed from the couple of glances he gave the guy once in a while, that the guy was frustrated. He would ruffle his hair, something that made Jaehwan skip a beat, and melt.
After the guy had ordered, there hadn’t been any more customers. The room had gotten smaller, and the noise had died down. Jae was on his phone, sitting on of the tables while Jaehwan stood behind the counter, afraid to move a muscle and missed when the guy left. His shift was almost over, and for the first time that day, he didn’t want to leave. He wanted to keep observing the guy. He wanted to know why the guy was frustrated.
With a sigh, he cleaned some tables and prepared to leave. The guy looked up as he returned to the counter. Jaehwan nodded at him and then looked down, saying goodbye to Jae, and then going in for his stuff as he thought of the guy, and wished the guy would be back again the next night.
~ ~ ~
Once again there was nothing. His mind was blank. Minhyun had thought that if he heard other songs and consulted with his members then he would have at least some inspiration, but there wasn’t any. This frustrated him to no end. Here he was, angry, on the floor, looking at his two other members goofing around in their sweat.
Minhyun is part of a three-member group who wrote songs, mostly ballads, and danced with slow moves to accompany their vocals. Their last comeback, the leader had wrote one of their songs and it had turn out amazing. The leader spoke with him and they both came up with ideas. Their ideas sparked a theme that the producers wanted to continue, despite that idea has long been removed from his brain because he has no recollect of what he wanted to do for their album.
His idea sparked countless of thoughts on all the producers. To his bad luck, they had asked him to come up with a song that would go with the theme. That song would either be their single or not. Whichever it was, he had no inspiration and that was the problem. Minhyun didn’t want to let them down, yet he wasn’t doing anything to make sure he wasn’t.
Except, he had found a place that would for sure get him inspiration. He had to seek that inspiration, he knows that. That’s why he was going to one of those 24 hour cafes across the street from the dance studio.
They were done for the night. Well, except for him. He was directly going to the café. Inspiration played on his mind, even when he danced. He couldn’t sleep so it was best that he went to the café. There was better chances of him getting inspiration than staring at the wall in the darkness.
“I’ll be going,” Minhyun tells his members.
“Don’t come home too late, we have to practice for the festival,” the leader shouts as he waves goodbye and closes the door.
As Minhyun walked through the streets, serenity filled his body. Tonight the weather was perfect, the streets busy, and people happily walking the streets. The lamps hovering the city where flashing the lives of many people. Every single person that had been beside him had their own struggles and their own stories to tell.
Minhyun hoped that by seeing people, witnessing their lives happening in this very moment, he would get inspired. He didn’t lose that hope. Despite coming over to the café for over a week, he still had nothing, except one thing. There was something that made him smile, even if the night didn’t turn out as he wanted to and that was the male worker there who always spoke to him with such enthusiasm.
The male was a pretty boy who he swore would be a good candidate for a boygroup. In fact, he looked like he belonged in a boy group. A couple of times as the male handed him his change, their skin would brush against each other, and his heart would do some weird movement and his head would become confused with all the emotions that would start to happen at that moment.
Minhyun had to get that boy out of his head. He had to forget about the way the guy’s brown hair was parted between his forehead, some hair falling over to his eyes making him even more attractive. He had to focus on writing a song, and if he wrote about the guy, it would be obvious that he was falling in love, and he didn’t want to fall in love. His focus was his music and achieving all that they have dreamed ever since they became trainees four years ago.
Minhyun wiggled his hands and composed himself. He needed to act natural, leave the excitement of his body out of his system. He is here for pure inspiration, not a distraction.
The café was verily full, his favorite table deserted. Good. That table gives him an opportunity to scan the customers. The male worker had his back, working on something. The other male worker, the one he didn’t have feelings for, was handing a couple their food.
As he approach the counter, he stuffed his hands on his pocket, and shrugged his shoulders up to his ears. Minhyun clears his throat to get the male worker’s attention. It did. The male worker turned around and wiped his hands on his apron.
For a second, the male worker, with ruffled hair didn’t recognize Minhyun, and when he did, recognize Minhyun, he flashed his captivating smile. “Hi, what can I get you?”
“Um, the usual, please.” Minhyun mentally cursed himself. How more of an idiot can you be?
“Okay. Coming right up. That’ll be ten dollars and forty five cents.”
Minhyun nodded, fishing for a twenty dollar bill that he had stuffed earlier. The male worker looked at him intently and Minhyun wished he looked better. A plain white T-shirt and shorts were not looking so good anymore. He usually wore fancy clothes to music shows and events. Minhyun started to think maybe it was a good idea to extent his wardrobe to his midnight trips to this cafe.
“Excuse me, can I have the money.”
The Male worker’s voice melted his ears, serenading his sensations. Minhyun hadn’t realized that he was drifting to la la land, where the Male worker was his main dream.
“Sorry.” Minhyun handed the twenty dollar bill, this time avoiding his gaze.
“Thanks,” the male guy said, unfazed by Minhyun’s response.
As the bill was being handed, their skin brushing against each other once again, this time, the male worker’s hand had cupped Minhyun’s hand for a seconds before quickly pulling it a way.
“Sorry.” Color crept into the Male worker’s face. His gestures soon became less excited and instead nervous.
Don’t be, Minhyun said on his mind. He wants to tell him. But of course he didn’t. That would’ve changed everything. Those words might initiate something that he knows ,even if he wants to deep inside, to spark something between them and Minhyun doesn’t want that to happen in fear of ruining something that had not even began. Instead he said with his voice a little flat, “Don’t worry.”
The Male worker said nothing and handed him the cash back. They said nothing. Their eyes hadn’t met again, and with a turn of the Male worker to work on his order, Minhyun took this as a sign to walk back to the table. Once he sat on the chair, his eyes never left the Male worker, even if he had his notepad sprawled on the table.
The other guy worker who had blonde hair was back behind the counter. The blonde worker made his cashier laugh and he wondered what did the other guy say to make his cashier laugh so hard that it made other customers turned around and stare. And then Minhyun laughed under his breath. He was so stupid. He couldn’t believe the absurdity that was becoming a thought in his head. His cashier. As if the male worker belonged to him.
He didn’t want to admit it, but Minhyun was jealous of the other guy. He wanted to be the one next to his cashier so that he could hear him talk and laugh. This was so crazy. He laughed, shaking his head. He didn’t even know the guy’s name. Minhyun picked his pad and pencil and began to write, hoping this time he would be able to concentrate and write something edible and coherent, and not scribbles and scratches on not so good, lyrics.
But it had been hard. Nothing was coming to his head. His eyes could only stare at the Male worker as he moved from place to place, always having something in his hand.
Next to Minhyun there was a girl about his age with her phone on her ear, talking sweetly. Minhyun assumed that she was in a relationship. How nice of her to have someone romantically in her life. Perhaps writing about how sweet love is, and it how makes someone happy would be enough to write about and please the producers. But Minhyuk shook his head. A song like that has been written before, and he doesn’t want to be cliché. There had to be something that hadn’t been said, or that it attributed to a happy love that had been mentioned in countless songs all over the world.
On his pad he wrote no romantic songs. Well, at least there was one thing that he had decided on. That took one thing off of his mind. But what else? There wasn’t many people in the restaurant. Minhyun didn’t want to panic. He knew that whatever happened, at the end of the day something needed to be written. And if he didn’t end up writing a song, that wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen.
The worst thing to happen would that his heart was feeling things he didn’t want to feel. And while his cashier was brining him his food, he swore that he would leave his feelings tonight, and instead focus on writing the damn song. His cashier would have to stop being his cashier.
After an hour of writing scribbles, eating his order that had been brought by the Male worker with a soft smile, and scrolling through Instagram, reading some comments from his fans, and looking through some fan accounts, Minhyun decided to leave. It was nice to have fans dedicate accounts to his group. That made him feel really loved. His cashier’s shift was almost over. Minhyun had noticed the boy’s working schedule after the third day, after he stayed too long, forgetting about the time moving the night along. He was getting prepared to leave, closing his pad and shoving it to his pocket, inserting his pencil in between his ear, when he heard one of the male workers speak loudly for him to hear, and it eats something that he would never forget.
“Jaehwan, you forgot your phone. Next time you’ll leave your head here for sure,” Minhyun hears the blonde worker scold his cashier.
As he was leaving the restaurant, his lips turn up into a grin. He knew his cashier’s name. Despite not seeing him again, he liked that he knew the boy’s name now. That made him less of a stranger.
And he was no stranger at all. Not anymore.
~ ~ ~
The heat was killing Jaehwan. Finishing a water bottle did nothing to quench the thirst that his throat was feeling. It was Friday and he was so glad that he was done for the week. Luckily for him, his Friday class had been cancelled. Today he was distracted; he noticed it when his mind would go into a daydream instead of listening to the music he was listening from his white earphones.
At this moment he was craving an ice cream, a sweet, fruity ice cream. The bus had left him a couple blocks from a convenience store. While he was getting his ice cream- a milky strawberry popsicle- his body didn’t want to leave the store. He had finally stopped sweating.
Deciding against staying, Jaehwan paid his popsicle and began his walk towards the beach. If there wasn’t going to be any class today, then he should take advantage of this day and explore the ocean, and maybe while watching the waves, he explore what exactly his mind and body were feeling for this stranger.
As he kept walking through the sand, his shoes in one of his hands, and the other holding his popsicle which was now melting in between his fingers, Jaehwan stumbled upon cameras. There was three boys running around and yelling while a camera moved along with them. There wasn’t any people around them, except a mother with her child, just a couple of yards away from them, playing in the sand.
Jaehwan didn’t know whether to keep walking the same way or to go into one of those restaurants that were for tourists. He was pretty much hungry; the mention of food brought a rumble coming from his digestive tract.
Well he still wanted to keep walking so he threw the popsicle into his backpack, and washed his hands with water that was coming from the waves that were hitting the shoreline. Jaehwan noticed that the camera was gone and that the other camera men were turning around, walking towards a group of people. The three guys were still there where he last saw them, though, this time they were no longer running around and instead , they were talking and laughing.
It didn’t occur to Jaehwan that they were perhaps a boygroup. He remember once seeing Exo at a beach playing around when he saw it in a video with one of her girl-friend, who was obsessed with the group. Maybe all groups did this. So then he was in the process of meeting a boy group, even if it was by meeting them from afar. His girl-friend would be static to hear that he met a group, even if he didn’t know who the group was. He had to admit he didn’t really hear kpop that much often, he instead loves to hear folk music or music that wasn’t in the category of kpop.
Assertive that this was a good idea, mostly because he wanted to show his girl-friend, and because he wanted to boast about meeting celebrities, Jaehwan proceeded to walk to the three guys still in that very position, talking amongst themselves.
Jaehwan was getting nervous. He had never met celebrities before. He had his phone ready. One of the guys noticed that he was coming over to them, nudging the others so that they would notice his presence. Jaehwan only had to follow his plan. Tell them that his friend loved the group and that he wanted to take pictures with them. And then he would take the picture, say goodbye and then look for a charging station to charge his phone because he had twenty percent, and he had no way of getting a ride back from his friend if his phone wasn’t on.
A guy from the group with green hair came over to him, a little from where the rest where and spoke first,” Do you need anything?”
“Uh… yeah.. Can I take a picture?” Jaehwan said, gesturing with his fingers the shape of the camera.
“Sure,” they all chant, coming over and standing next to the green-hair guy. “Uh, thanks.”
Awkwardly, he turns around and swipes his lock screen and begins taking pictures. At first he got a picture of them, and another of him and of the guys’ chest. Two shots later, he got one of all of them and upon seeing their faces on his phone, his face began to warm up. They were all so incredible hot. Except one. The guy on the far left was… Beautiful. Jaehwan’s eyes stopped to look at him. He was… He was the guy from the café. The guy was a celebrity. He was in love with an idol. And not in the, oh-my-god-i-want-to-marry-you kind of in love that many fans felt towards idols. His love was from the are-you-the-one soulmate in love.
“My friend really loves you, guys. She’s going to freak when I show her the pics. Especially you.” My fingers go towards him. The guy that I was falling in love with.
“Minhyun,” the guy revealed, my lips parting and spreadind into a beam.
“Minhyun.”
~ ~ ~
Lunch went smoothly for Jaehwan. The court was halfway filled which made his ears filled with joy. He was glad he didn’t went straight home and instead engaged with people and learned that the guy he was falling in love was called Minhyun. After he left them, Jaehwan found a charging station and search his name up. The band came up and researched their songs. He liked their debut song. He quickly downloaded on his iMusic and then messaged his friend about his encounter with the group.
At times during his meal he caught glances from the group. They were still there which made him a little happy that they hadn’t left. He still wanted to observe the guy. Until he had to go. The night was getting darker so he needed to call Jay before he started his night shift. Jaehwan didn’t work on Fridays so he was all good.
A breeze blew up his hair as he walked out of the restaurant. His hands went for his phone to call Jae. He couldn’t wait for this day to be over. So much had happened today, even if that meant that the only grand thing to happen was to meet the guy he was falling in love with.
The wind felt good on his face. It caressed his face like a silky pillowcase and engulfing him with a hug. Jaehwan hadn’t noticed that his eyes were close. He opened them when he heard his name being called.
“Your name is Jaehwan, right?”
He caught his breath, steading his heart beat. Controlling his body, he turned to face him. Minhyun. “Yeah,” he whispered.
“You don’t really know our group name, right?” Minhyun questioned, ruffling his hair and leaning on his left foot.
“Yeah,” Jaehwan replied with a shaky laugh. Oh, god. ‘Yeah’ is the only thing that can come out of my mouth? “Sorry.”
“No, worries. Not a lot of people know my group either. I was just surprised that you wanted to take a picture with us,” Minhyun said, coming closer to him.
“Well, my friend loves kpop and I knew you guys were a group so I wanted to show my friend that I met a group. I just didn’t know that you were part of a group.”
“I debuted, well, we debuted, about 11 months ago. We were shooting for one of our new songs. And our show.”
“How does it feel to debut?” It must be nice to be an idol and be recognize by the general public. Jaehwan can tell that Minhyun and the rest worked their butts off to achieve their dreams. There was a sudden respect coming from him.
“Bittersweet. All those years of training all to begin again. We’re rookies, we’re still unrecognizable, the bottom of the food chain,” Minhyun told him, his face sullen.
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. This is part of being an idol. We have to climb ourselves to the top. And stay there,” Minhyun said.
“I have no doubt you guys will. I heard some of your songs while I was eating. Ballads really suit you. My favorite is Mark My Words. That was a lovely song,” Jaehwan hesitated before confessing what he felt towards the song. He liked the song so much he heard it twice, on loop.
Minhyun chuckled,” Thanks. That song is one of my favorites.”
“Oh, really?” Jaehwan squinted his eyes at Minhyun. The sun was setting over them. “Then we have exquisite taste.”
“Right?”
“Yeah.” Their bodies were even closer now. Minhyun scanned his face just as he did on Minhyun’s. Jaehwan noticed that his eyes held the gaze of a movie star. His lips were formed and shaped as an O. Jaehwan noticed that Minhyun’s body smelled of cologne and that his neck was holding a silver necklace, the pendent in the shape of a star. “That’s a beautiful necklace,” he breathed out, his throat becoming dry.
“It’s my lucky necklace. My mom bought it for me before I began as a trainee,” Minhyun told him, touching his pendant and looking at it,” but now it won’t help me a write a song.”
“Well what do you want to write about exactly?” Minhyun was lost in a trance, probably thinking of something. Jaehwan noticed that Minhyun still had that sweet smile that he proudly showed when he told him his name. That smile that reminded him of sweet strawberries under the shade of the sun, savoring the juiciness of the fruit. His lips had the tint of that red, and perhaps kissing those lips Jaehwan would taste those strawberries.
“No idea. Been stuck for days now. I could use some of your ideas if you don’t mind,” he asked him, hopeful, and pressing his lips together while widening his eyes.
Jaehwan didn’t know what to say. He was compelled to do it, especially when he’s been asked by a singer. At the same time he was hesitant. He had never wrote any lyrics before, not even a story. He sucked at telling stories so he didn’t know how exactly he’s going to help him come up with new ideas. Yet looking at his face, how could he say no to him. Minhyun did look desperate and if the café was his place for inspiration where he had no inspiration whatsoever, and then it must take a lot of him to ask someone he verily knew to help him write lyrics.
“Mhm, okay. I don’t promise that it’ll work out, though.” Jaehwan raised his finger at him.
“You’ve been warned.”
“Thank you. Thank you.”
Soon after that, Minhyun explained the reason why he was stuck in writer’s block as they walked on the sand, the breeze getting a little cooler, and the hues of red orange where verily appearing from the sky. He had also explained that him and the rest of the group along with the crew we’re not leaving until tomorrow so he had time to be with him.
“You know it must be nice to not be recognized right now. The stillness, the quiet, peaceful strolls along with nature. You’ll miss it once you get big,” Jaehwan said, some sort of proudness appearing on his body. He almost felt like touching Minhyun’s hair that looked so silky.
“You say that like that’s going to happen,” Minhyun had sadness in his eyes, his eyes lowering to the ground.
“Because it is. Your voice is so angelic, your face crafted by the hands of Athena, so perfect that it makes other gods jealous, and it would be such a shame if others fail to acknowledge that,” Jaehwan professed, not daring to move an inch, not even his eyes that still hold the spectrum of Minhyun’s world.
“You think I’m perfect?” Minhyun gasped.
Jaehwan felt Minhyun’s hands push his body closer to his body. “So many people say that love at first sight is bull, yet just by seeing you that what they say is bull.”
They both laugh. They were in presence, time in action, their hearts recognizing each other. Eyes have to recognize eyes, rhythm matching with another, creating symphony of eternal love. And that’s what Minhyun realized while his forehead was pressed against Jaehwan’s.
That night, while the others were asleep, and he sat just outside of his bedroom, overlooking through the window to the tranquil ocean, only making hushing sounds, Minhyun began to write. His mind was composed, words were flowing into the paper and he began to form a story. Jaehwan coming into his life meant that life made find each other. He was calling for inspiration, and instead gave him this boy that completely changed his perspective.
Minhyun was so lost, but by just looking at Jaehwan he found himself through his eyes. In his story a man asks the stars for inspiration as he walks through the desert. All that he questioned was all answered in the song.
A few days later, the producers liked it and helped composed the song into perfection. Minhyun was glad that they liked it, although he was sad because this meant that he had to now completely focus on the next comeback which meant he couldn’t see Jaehwan for a little while.
~ ~ ~
A few months passed after he officially met Minhyun that day in the ocean. He, of coursed, saw him as much as he could although it was very limited. Just a week ago, their date had to be cut short because a few girls had recognized him which meant that they could not hold hands. This meant that they could no longer go out in public and be as touchy as they used to.
Jaehwan was sad at first, but he understood that this was part of Minhyun’s life. There wasn’t anything that he could do to stop it. The youngest member of his group became an emcee, thus giving them more popularity. Jaehwan didn’t mind either. He was so damn happy that people were realizing the potential of the group. He was sad that that meant he had to stop seeing Minhyun most of the time. Jaehwan wished that this wasn’t the case, that they can still be together, but deep down he knew that he had to wait even longer to be with him.
Most nights he would catch himself looking at door half expecting Minhyun to barge into the cafe and order a mocha coffee with vanilla slice of cake. Every night he was disappointed. Not that Minhyun didn’t come. No. He was disappointed that he would let himself be fooled knowing that he would not come. He was a fool of hoping something that would not come. Minhyun was busy right now. After work died down, he will come back to be with him. He knew that. But, it burned so bad down, in his heart.
His shift was almost over, he was just cleaning some mugs, and then some tables. Minhyun’s group new song came out today and he couldn’t wait to hear it. Minhyun did tell him a little about what the song was about, but he swore to say no more since he was a fan now, and wasn’t going to get special treatment now that they were dating.
After he got out of the restaurant, his nostrils could finally breathe. He would breathe too much coffee sometimes that his nose could only smell coffee now.
The night was so chilly. Jaehwan was glad that he had brought a light sweater. Last time he forgot his sweater, he shivered all throughout the bus ride home. Jaehwan was going to put his sweater on when he feels his body wrapped by another body. He was about to protest and scream when he hears, ” It’s me.”
“You almost gave me a heart attack,” Jaehwan said, catching his breath and punching Minhyun on the shoulder. “Don’t do it again.”
“I’m sorry.” Minhyun laughed wrapping his arms over him and burying his head on his neck. “I miss you.”
“I miss you too.”
“So my group’s song is out,” Minhyun mentioned, twirling Jaehwan to face him and giving him a kiss on the cheek.
“I know. I was just about to watch it on my phone once I was on the bus,” Jaehwan said.
“Well what about if you watch it with me?” Minhyun raised his eyebrows.
“You want to come over?”
Minhyun nodded.” Yeah. I have to leave around three in the morning but I want to spend this time with you.”
“Okay. Just hide yourself so you don’t get caught,” Jaehwan said through a laugh. He could feel his heart beating so loud. He was about to watch his video at his house. For the first time. The best thing to hear in a while.
“I promise I won’t. The song is called A touch of Inspiration,” Minhyun said, his lips coming closer to Jaehwan’s lips and then his voice became low and husky, “and I dedicate it to you.”
Before Jaehwan could say anything Minhyun attached his lips against Jaehwan’s. Happiness was bursting out of his chest and at this moment Minhyun was his inspiration. They had found each other to inspire their love into the world and bring A Touch of Inspiration.

A/N:
Long time no see. 🤗 hey I miss you guys. So the semester is over so that means I get to write more, and I do hope I write more so I don’t keep you guys waiting, but as you guys know I struggle with self-doubt so that’s why I tend to upload chapters not as fast as I wish I would.
This one shot is a little cheesy but I love it. I think this is the longest one shot I have ever made hehe @Squishy_Jaehwan I hope you like it.
Also I had someone asked me how long it’ll take for me to make their one shot, and my respond to the person, and to the others, I will write them as soon as I can. I feel guilty for making you guys wait so I’ll try my best to upload them as fast as I can. So if you guys want to know who’s next I wrote a list of who asked first and that’s how I’m going by:
@CreativeAbility
@amir_aeris8812
@taejihan
@SaraiGomez3
@books_books12
And also included I’m Not That Cruel and Rivals’ Love Affair. So with that, I will not be accepting requests, for reals this time.
I hope you guys comment and vote. Kismet will be up soon. ❤️🙆🏻♀️
