here it is. the final/epilogue 🙂
。。。
A year. An entire year since the accident that made Alan lose his memories and a year ever since Alan stepped back into the picture after their breakup, and Austin couldn’t have been anymore happier. It was like his life flipped around so much, and now it felt like things were settling and calming down completely, which was a good thing, because Austin needed it.
Everything was still crazy, though it was a good crazy. Alan had gotten a huge majority of his memories back, but some of it was still hazy. He remembered a lot about his and Austin’s relationship, and the things the things that had happened afterwards. He even remembered all before their relationship, but there were bits and pieces of his childhood he couldn’t seem to place correctly. It was still a working process, though, and Austin was there with him every step of the way.
After several months, Alan moved back in with the brunette and things were slowly going back to how they were way before, except the fighting. Their relationship had been very calm. Austin was maintaining his work schedule, making sure he got off at the exact time he was supposed to and he tried not to work late so often because he knew how Alan felt about that. He was really trying to make things work, because he really didn’t want things to turn out they did before.
Alan was also cleared to go to work by the doctor, which was an exciting thing for the ginger because he hated being stuck inside the house all day, everyday. He wanted to be able to do something that didn’t involve sitting around all the time, waiting rather impatiently for his boyfriend to come home. It sucked, to say the least, so when his final check up to see how he was doing came and the doctor gave him the okay to get a job, Alan was excited and practically jumping around. He ended finding himself a job at the animal shelter, though Menchi didn’t like it when the ginger came home smelling like other animals. He got to groom and care for the animals and happily watch as a little child came in looking for a pet and picked one out. He really enjoyed it and it made him happy.
It was now the brunettes lunch break, or really to him it was the end of the day. He was taking the rest of the afternoon off to go home and set up the little dinner he had planned for the evening. It was to celebrate their upcoming anniversary and Austin had many things planned- and one in particular he was very nervous about. He just hoped he wasn’t dumb and ruined the dinner by burning it or making it terrible. It wasn’t that hard, Austin just wasn’t the best.
Austin reached their home and headed inside, putting down the bags of groceries he bought that contained the ingredients for the evening on the kitchen counter. He was nervous, honestly. He wanted this to be perfect, to be special, and the night couldn’t be special if the dinner was horrible; or that’s what the brunette believed. He knew Alan didn’t care for many things, he only cared if they were able to spend time together and be with each other, but still, Austin wanted things to go smoothly.
The brunette planned to make pasta- it was easy and couldn’t be that hard to mess up completely, or at least that’s what he hoped-, which was something Austin knew the ginger enjoyed the most. He also bought a bottle of wine and a small box of chocolate covered strawberries. Maybe it was a little overdue, but Austin thought it seemed romantic enough. All he could hope for is that Alan enjoyed it and he didn’t screw up.
。。。
After a few hours of cooking and a few times of screwing up, Austin finished up the pasta and sat it to the side. Alan would be home in a few minutes, which made Austin feel excited and nervous inside. He wanted things to go perfect, he wanted to see the light in Alan’s eyes when he walked in and saw what was happening. He wanted Alan.
When Austin finished serving up the plates, the sound of a car door closing signalled that Alan was home, and that’s when the nerves really came. The brunettes hands began to shake slightly as he sat the plates on the table before carefully setting the halfway full wine glasses down next to them. He lit the candles that were placed on the table and the few that were placed- safely of course- around the kitchen, and even the few placed around the living room. Everything looked romantic and Austin couldn’t have felt anymore proud.
“Aust, I’m-” Alan began as he walked through the front door, but he stopped short, looking around in confusion. What was happening? Why were there candles lit? Where was Austin?
As if on cue, the brunette himself came walking out from the kitchen, dressed up nicely in a button up shirt and jeans, his hair slicked back slightly. He looked hot, Alan had to admit that.
“What’s going on?” Alan questioned.
“Well, I’m sure you know our anniversary is coming up and I thought that maybe I could make us a nice dinner,” Austin told him as he stepped closer and slipped the gingers jacket off, placing it where it belonged before pressing a kiss to his forehead.
“Why- You didn’t have to do this, Austin,” Alan said, though there was a smile on his face and his heart was beating slightly faster along with butterflies filling the pit of his stomach.
“I know, but I wanted to, so I guess you’ll just have to deal with it,” the brunette said, grinning as he grabbed his boyfriends hand and tugged him into the kitchen.
Alan stopped in the doorway, looking at the pretty, sweet smelling candles that were placed and the pasta sat on the kitchen table. A smile bloomed on his face again and he couldn’t help the tears that filled his eyes. God, he hated being so emotional, but it was so sweet and romantic and he just loved Austin so much.
“Oh, no, baby don’t cry,” Austin cooed, quickly grabbing the ginger and pulling him close. Alan sniffed, grinning as he buried his face in Austin’s chest.
“I’m sorry, it’s just… this is so sweet and you went out of your way to do all of this I- I love you, Austin, I really do,” Alan said, his eyes filling with tears once more. He was being such a baby, but he couldn’t help it.
“I love you, too,” Austin mumbled softly, pressing a long kiss to the gingers forehead. He figured if he got this reaction from a simple dinner, he wondered what the gingers reaction would be for later on.
“Now come on, the pasta is starting to get cold and I actually made something without burning it or making it horribly,” Austin said after a few minutes as he pulled away. Alan giggled, biting his bottom lip as they made their way over to the table and sat down to eat.
。。。
It was after dinner that Alan got dressed in some nicer clothes that weren’t covered in animal fur. He and Austin were going out for a walk, mainly to the park because that seemed to be one of the gingers favourite places. He would be quiet since the sun was beginning to set and it was growing a little colder outside.
While Alan finished getting dressed, Austin was stood in the living, pacing back and forth slightly. He was nervous and he could feel every bone in his body shaking as he thought of how the events for the evening would go.
He was going to propose.
And to say Austin was nervous would be an understanding. Sure, they had been together for over a year- well, back together anyways-, but he still felt like it might have been too soon. He loved Alan with every fiber in his being and was wanting to spend the rest of his life with the ginger, but the idea of Alan rejecting him made Austin feel sick and nervous and he just thought of how his life would turn out if the ginger were to walk away for good.
Austin didn’t want that, not even in the slightest.
“Okay, we can go now,” Alan came out of their bedroom, dressed in, of course, one of Austin’s sweatshirts and jeans. He looked adorable- but when did it not?- dressed like that, it made Austin’s heart swell and the nerves go away a little.
Together they left, heading for the park. To Alan, this was just a simple walk, but to Austin, well, this was his make it or break it point. He didn’t want to mess anything up.
“Are you okay?” Alan asked, nudging the brunette lightly. Austin snapped out of his thoughts, trying to gather himself without sounding like an idiot.
“Yeah, I’m, um, I’m fine, just a little cold is all,” he said, which wasn’t completely a lie. He forgot a jacket.
Alan smiled, grabbing Austin’s arm and pulling it around his shoulder. “I’ll keep ya warm,” he said, making the brunette snort.
When they arrived at the park, Austin could feel his palms begin to sweat slightly. There was no one around, except maybe one or two teenagers who were off by the slides, but Austin paid them no mind and only focused on his boyfriend who was raising towards the swings, giggling like a small child. He couldn’t help but smile as he joined the ginger and began pushing him.
“Higher!” Alan giggled, biting his lip and snorting. The wing against his cheeks and rushing through his hair made him feel so alive and he didn’t care one bit about the slightly strange looks he was getting. He felt free and happy.
“Please don’t jump out like you did that one time,” Austin begged, remembering how horribly he was scared when the ginger jumped from the swings.
“No promises,” Alan laughed, though he didn’t plan on doing that again.
For a little while, Austin pushed the ginger on the swings, grinning at his snorts and giggles before they both grew tired and ended up lying on the ground, looking at the few stars that were beginning to come out.
It was quiet, save for the few cars that passed by or the loud group of people that would walk past. Austin could feel his heart beating in his throat the more he repeated the speech of what he wanted to say over and over in his head.
He could do this. He wanted to do this. He wanted to be with Alan for forever, to love him and be able to raise a family with him. Austin didn’t want anyone else, he just wanted Alan, so he couldn’t stop himself from sitting up and staring down at the ginger as the next words tumbled past his lips.
“Will you marry me?”
If it wasn’t silent before, it definitely was now. Alan laid there, his giggly mood disappearing and shock replacing it. Was this really happening? Was Austin serious? There’s no way he really could be! They had hardly discussed marriage or where their futures together were going, but it seemed like Austin didn’t care, and neither did Alan, honestly. He really did want to spend the rest of his life with Austin, they had been through so much together. It seemed almost wrong to be with anyone else.
“I-I- yes,” Alan couldn’t stop the tears that welled up in his eyes once more nor could he stop himself from grabbing the brunettes shirt and tugging him down for a kiss.
Austin felt over the moon, relief filling his core as he kissed the ginger back, his fiancé. He knew it was ridiculous to feel nervous, but anything could have happened, Alan could have said no.
“W-Wait,” the brunette muttered, pulling away from the kiss. He dug around in his pocket, searching for the small box that contained the ring that his grandmother had given him a few days before his high school graduation. She had told him to give it to someone who he loved and wanted to spend the rest of his life with, and he was.
Alan bit his bottom lip and dried his eyes as they both sat up. Austin pulled the small box from his pocket and opened it, revealing the simple band, but it was beautiful and Alan cooed softly, grinning from ear to ear.
“My grandma gave this to me,” Austin said, explaining the story to the ginger of how his grandma wanted him to give it to someone who deserved it most in the world.
“I’m sorry that I don’t have some big, huge speech to give you, or that this probably isn’t how you expected to be proposed to, but all I know is that I want to the rest of every moment with you, and only you, forever,” Austin said, kissing the back of the gingers hand as the ring was placed perfectly onto his finger.
Alan smiled, his heart swelling. “I want to spend forever with you, too, and this ring is beautiful,” he said. It wasn’t anything fancy, and he wasn’t expecting anything like that, he loved it even though it was simple. He loved Austin.
They both smiled before sharing another kiss, both their hearts racing. Alan felt so happy and full of joy, he couldn’t wait to get married to the brunette, and he certainly couldn’t wait to start planning everything. Austin still felt a little nervous, though it wasn’t anything bad, but he was happy nonetheless.
Here Austin thought he’d never see Alan again after their breakup, that their relationship would be another lost memory of the past, but he was wrong. After many months of hating the single utter of the gingers name, something tragic brought them back together, and though Austin felt terrible for cheating and lying for so long, he didn’t regret a single moment. Although it was a living hell dealing with Justin- that sounded harsh, but Austin didn’t have the same feelings for Justin as he did for Alan, they could never compare- Austin would do it all over again if he had to. It was just that Alan could never be forgotten, and Austin never wanted to forget, and if he did, he’d somehow remember. He was going to be with Alan for forever, and they both didn’t want it any other way.

And another thing regarding Never Ever Land for those who’ve read it: idk when I’m updating that again. I’m really stuck and lost on what I want to do. So for a little while it’s going to be on hold onto I figure out what I’m doing next with it, I’m really sorry
