Vic holds my hand as he leads me through the mall. I’m having the best day so far and Vic’s mood seems to have improved dramatically since this morning.

I guess I just like being alone with him, well as alone as I can be in a mall full of thousands of people. But I guess that’s what I like about Vic, he makes me feel like we’re the only two people on the planet. He makes me feel comfortable. Don’t get me wrong, I love being around Mama and Papa but alone time with Vic is just so special.

So far, I’ve bought nothing with my money; I have no idea what to spend it on. I want to buy Vic something and I want to by Mama and Papa something but I don’t know what.

We’re walking past the record shop and Vic stops.

“Do you mind if we go in here for a second?” He asks and I shake my head.

He pulls me into the store and I follow him down an isle where he starts looking at CDs.

“Which one do you want?” I ask curiously as he picks up a CD.

“This one.” He frowns. “I’ll get it another day.”

I snatch the CD from his hands and march right up to the counter, placing the CD down where a girl takes it and scans it.

“Baby, you don’t have to. Its your money. Buy yourself something.” Vic frowns.

I shake my head and kiss his cheek as the girl tells me the CD costs ten dollars. I take out my money and hand it to her. She puts it in the cash register, handing me the change and then handing me the now-bagged CD. I give Vic the bag as we leave the store.

“You really didn’t have to do that.” Vic sighs.

“I wanted to.” I chirp. “Its a little thank you for being amazing.”

“You’re the amazing one.” He grins giving me a look of admiration. “Thank you Kells, this was a sweet gesture. Come on, I’ll buy you lunch and some ice-cream.”

Excited, I take his hand again as we head towards the food court.

On our way there, someone bumps into me pretty hard and knocks me over. I look up and immediately recognize the person as Alex. I start shaking in fear but then Vic grabs the front of Alex’s shirt, slamming him into the wall behind him.

“Touch him again and I will kill you.” Vic spits.

“Tell me Vic, does your parents know about your disgusting attraction to the same sex?” Alex smirks.

“Don’t fucking test me, Gaskarth.” Vic hisses.

Alex just smirks and shakes himself from Vic’s grip before walking off. Once he’s gone, Vic’s immediately by my side helping me up.

“Are you okay? Are you hurt?” He asks frantically.

I shake my head, swallowing a lump in my throat.

“I think I’m fine.” I whisper, although I’m still shaking.

Vic leads me over to a nearby bench and sits me down.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” He asks again, wrapping his arms around me.

“Yeah.” I breathe. “Just a little shaky.”

I rest my head against his shoulder as he rubs my back to calm me down. It works because within minutes I’ve stopped shaking and I’m feeling quite alright. I pull back from Vic’s arms and press my lips to his. He cups my face and breaks the kiss giving me a curious look.

“Thank you for sticking up for me.” I smile.

“Anytime Kells.” He murmurs, pecking my lips then helping me stand back up.

I hold his hand a little tighter as we walk through the mall, still a little on edge but Vic consistently gives my hand a comforting squeeze.

We eat lunch and Vic gets me licorice flavored ice-cream because I haven’t tried it before but I don’t like it so he swaps with me and gives me his cookie dough which could easily be the best thing I’ve ever tasted.

After that we walk around the mall for a bit more and I start feeling like I’ll never find something for Mama and Papa until we’re walking past a florist. I tug on Vic’s hand, pulling him into the store. I look around for a bit until I stumble across a cute little cactus in a small pot. I drop Vic’s hand to pick up the plant and examine it.

“Do you think Papa would like it?” I ask Vic hopefully.

His gives me an adoring look as he nods.

“I think he’ll love it.” Vic murmurs.

I let out a little squeal of excitement and shove the cactus into Vic’s hands as I turn around to look for something for Mama. I find a bouquet of pretty pale pink flowers that are called Heirloom tulips according to the packaging. Plus they’re on sale!

After paying for the gifts, I have two dollars left which is enough to buy myself a sharpener and an eraser for my pencils.

Vic and I leave the mall and go into the parking lot. Instead of getting into the car, Vic pushes me up against the car and smashes his lips to mine. I slide my arms around his neck as his rest firmly on my waist. He pulls back and grinning widely as he rests his forehead against mine.

“I’m so happy.” I whisper, leaning up and kissing his cheek.

“Me too Darling.” He replies.

I bury my face into his chest and he begins running his fingers through my hair.

“Did you have a good day?” he murmurs after a little while of silence.

“I did! I had the best day.” I beam. “I love spending time with you. We’re together all the time but never alone. I like being alone with you.”

He chuckles at my enthusiasm and kisses my head.

“I like being alone with you too.” he grins. “But unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Come on, lets go home.”

He lets go of me and kisses me one last time before he gets in the car and I do the same. he starts the car and begins driving home. I cant help but to dwell on what he said though.

“Vic, if all good things must come to an end, does that mean our relationship will?” I ask anxiously.

Vic glances at me and gives me a reassuring smile.

“One day.” He says softly, which doesn’t reassure me at all. “One day when we’re both a hundred years old, we’re going to go to sleep one day and not wake up. We will come to an end Kellin but it’ll be a long time from now and it’ll be by natural causes, peaceful, painless and wrapped in each other’s arms. I will never leave you.”

I wipe a tear that slides down my cheek and Vic grabs my hand reassuringly.

“I wont leave you, Vic.” I sniff.

A small content smile falls onto Vic’s face and it doesn’t leave the entire car ride. In fact, he still has it when we enter the Fuentes home.

Mama greets me with a big hug when I walk into the living room.

“Honey, did you have fun?” she asks eagerly. I love how interested and excited she gets about every aspect of my life. No one has ever cared about how I’m feeling or how my day was. I like having someone who cares.

“I had so much fun. I bought you something.” I grin, taking the flowers from Vic and giving them to Mama.

She gasps and smiles down at the flowers.

“They’re beautiful, Kell.” she beams. “Thank you so much Honey, you didn’t have to get me anything.”

“I wanted to. You’ve already gotten me so much. So I bought you flowers and I bought Papa a cactus and Vic a CD.” I explain.

“Oh Kell, please tell me you got yourself something.” Mama says smiling adoringly at me.

“I got myself an eraser and a sharpener.” I tell her and she smiles.

“You’re such a sweet boy.” she murmurs. “Papa’s in the living room watching a movie.”

I nod and begin to walk off but quickly turn around and kiss Mama’s cheek.

She sighs contently and ruffles my hair before giving me a playful push to the door.

“Vic honey, can I talk to you for a sec?” Mama asks and Vic gulps nervously as he nods.

I leave the room to give them privacy but as soon as I do I hear my name so I stop and lean against the wall listening to what she’s saying.

“Did Kellin have a good day?” she asks him.

“Yeah, he had a great day.” Vic chirps.

“That’s good. I just wanted to thank you for how you’ve been treating Kellin. It was bumpy at the start but he seems to have connected with you and it seems to be making him comfortable.” she explains.

“No need to thank me Mama. Kellin’s a good friend, I should never have treated him the way that I did.” Vic murmurs.

“It’s all in the past now. So is having a friend helping you?” Mama asks and Vic goes silence.

“You don’t have to answer.” Mama sighs.

There’s more silence then Vic’s speaks.

“Kellin, uh, he helps a little.” Vic stutters out.

“That’s good sweetie.” she beams. “Kellin’s looking out for you, you look out for him, okay?”

“I will Mama. He’s a good kid.” Vic says.

After that, I decide to stop eavesdropping and just go find Papa. He looks up from the movie he was watching and smiles when he sees me.

“Papa, I bought you something.” I beam, pulling the cactus out of the bag as I climb on the sofa next to him.

Papa grins as I hand him the plant.

“Kell, this is great, thank you.” he grins.

“What are you going to name it?” I ask.

“Name it?” Papa chuckles.

“Yeah, it should have a name.” I giggle.

“Okay, why don’t you help me name it?” he suggests. “Is it a boy or a girl?”

“It’s neither.” I laugh. “It’s a plant.”

He chuckles wraps his arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him.

“I think I’ll name it after my two favorite boys.” papa says, looking up at Vic as he walks into the room. “What about Kellic?”

Vic snorts and sits on the sofa next to me. I roll my eyes playfully at his disapproval.

“I love it. It’s Kellin and Vic mixed together.” I giggle.

I look to Vic and while Papa’s looking down at the plant, Vic winks at me. I blush and look away from him as I rest my head on Papa’s shoulder.

I watch the movie with Papa although I’m not quite interested in it. I’m interested in Vic, as always. I watch him as he watches the movie and I try to imagine a time when he was different. When he didn’t hate himself and when he wasn’t bullied and when he had friends. A time when he smiled a lot more than he does now.

I never knew that Vic but one thing’s for sure, I’d like to.
