-One Year Later-
Trae sat at his desk; music playing in the background as he scrolled through the endless stream of recent Facebook updates, occasionally chuckling at the sight of several posts about teenage angst and desperate photos of girls fishing for attention. He wasn’t even sure why he added them in the first place; he didn’t know them and if he was completely honest they weren’t even that attractive. ‘I’m going to have to sort that out later’ he thought to himself.
High school was long since over and a lot has changed since then. One of those things being the fancy black Tux he happened to be wearing at this exact moment; but we’ll talk about that later. Trae hardly ever went to parties anymore and the only time he really drank was when he went out with Kevin and Seb. Although things had changed, one of the things that stayed the same was Kevin. He still lived 3 doors down and he was still Trae’s brother and best mate. Although, hanging out with Kevin usually also meant hanging out with Teegan since they started dating over 11 months back. At first Trae thought it was weird seeing two of his closest friends being loving and intimate towards each other but it didn’t take long for him to get used to it. More than anything Trae was just happy to see that Kevin was happy; even if it was Teegan that bought him that happiness.
Then there was Seb. He was still the same ol’ klutz that they all knew and loved. He and Gaige were still together and since finishing his degree Gaige has been able to spend a lot more time with his boyfriend. Much like Trae and Kev, Seb hardly ever went to parties and benders seeing as it just wasn’t the same without his two best buds.
Trae was bought back out of his thoughts when he scrolled past a picture of Imogen Taylor. He scrolled back up and clicked on the photo. He still considered her to be one of the most beautiful girls he has ever seen. Like most of her photo’s it was a close up of her face, no duck face or anything like that; just a simple breathtaking smile. Even with the black and white filter you could still see the glint in her eyes as her boyfriend kissed her cheek. They’ve only been together for a few months but it’s a few months longer than Trae or any of the others thought it would last; They’re starting to think she genuinely likes him, and they’re right.
His name is Mike; someone that walked into the store she worked at one day to get out of the rain. He never intended to visit that store on that day and if it wasn’t for the spontaneous sun shower that lasted longer than expected on his way to work; he wouldn’t have continued going there every day thereafter to ask pointless questions about things he never intended on buying just to see the gorgeous blonde with an amazing smile.
He caught Imogen’s attention the moment he all but bust through the front door; afraid to ruin his portfolio of work he had spent so much of his time on… Or his hair. At first she tried her usual tricks; flirting and treating him like a little game but it didn’t take long for her to realise he didn’t want to play, and it didn’t take much longer for her to realise that she didn’t want to either. He was everything she wanted in a man; tall, tanned and handsome with an edge of maturity despite his young age of 24. He seemed like a genuine gentleman with a sexy smile you’d be stupid to trust if it were anyone else. But he was as genuine as they got; It didn’t take long for her to realise that either.
Trae jumped in his seat as his soft, relaxing music changed in to some form of heavy metal. He spun in his seat, glaring at Kevin as he stood by his speaker system with a cocky grin on his face.
“How the hell did you get in here?!” Trae all but yelled, holding his hand over his chest, “You almost gave me a bloody heart attack” He leaned forward and turned the music off; mumbling profanities under my breath as he did so.
“We’ve been over this before. I’ve known you my entire life… I know where the spare key is” Kevin smirked matter-of-factly, “Sorry to remind you but she’s taken now” He smirked, gesturing at the computer screen behind me.
“Believe it or not” Trae added with a chuckled before turning back to his computer and closing the picture. “So what brings you all the way over here? Didn’t you and Teegan have plans to go to the movies or something?” Trae glanced over his shoulder as he spoke.
“She’s still getting ready” Kev sighed with a chuckle.
“Typical Tee” Trae laughed as he turned his chair back around.
“You’re telling me” he groaned, “She said she was going to be a while so I thought I’d come down for a little bit. Are you sure you don’t want to come? It can be like a double-date or something?”
“As fun as that sounds” Trae nodded his head thoughtfully, “We actually have our own plans tonight”
Kevin nodded his head in understanding, “Speaking of plans, where is-”
“He’s upstairs in the shower” Trae grinned cutting Kevin off.
It has been about 6 months before Trae and Chase broke up. They tried to make it work but as hard as they tried there was too many differences to make it work; it was just too different to when they were camping together and they didn’t know why. The feelings were mutual when they inevitably split and they haven’t really spoken since; the feelings of affection now replaced with an even deeper feeling of awkwardness. It didn’t take long before Trae met Ryan and all the feelings he felt for Chase came rushing back; only stronger. Trae even thinks he may be in lo- I’m just fucking with you; Trae and Chase are still going strong. Stronger than ever it would seem.
You see, Trae hardly ever gets nervous; even when they go on public dates with Chase he doesn’t really care what people think. Although, in saying this, he also isn’t one for over the top PDA’s which Chase is very glad for. As I was saying, Trae doesn’t usually get nervous for anything; but tonight was different. Tonight was the night Trae was going to make a promise to the Irish boy that changed his life oh so much just over a year ago. It wasn’t a promise of marriage or even a promise of engagement; it was a promise of a promise. It was a promise of reassurance and a promise of devotion; a promise that one day Trae will ask Chase to marry him. A promise to show Chase that whatever sparked between them on the week of their camping trip was, and always will be, a spark of love.
That was 2 years ago, and as Trae knelt down on one knee in front of Chase in the busy restaurant he couldn’t help but feel nervous. Even as his heart beat 100 miles per hour against his chest he couldn’t help but smile as the words left his mouth. “Chase, will you marry me”.
You could hear a pin drop in the room as Chase went quiet for a few seconds. An essence of a tear formed in his right eye as he slowly nodded his head, “Yes”.
-The End-
A/N – So this is the end of A Summer Spark and I am so happy to be able to say i have officially finished my first story :DD
I just wanted to thank everyone who has ever commented, voted or even read any part of my story. It has made this little journey so much more worthwhile to know that people were actually enjoying it. So once again, thank you so very much.
Attached song is “Shadow and a Dancer” by ‘The Fray’. It’s my favourite song of theirs and i feel like it fits this epilogue and story perfectly so its highly recommended 😀
55 word pages, over 41000 words and 4546 minutes of typing (and extreme procrastinating) time. (I also plan to go back over the story and edit it as a whole)
