The night went by pretty uneventful. Kev came back over; we turned the music up, got some beers and shot up some zombies in Call of Duty. The perks of your best mate living only 3 doors down. Things we’re going pretty well, not much conversation was going on but we’ve known each other long enough for our silence to be comfortable. The round ended so we both took advantage of the break, grabbing our beers and sculling another mouthful. We both put our beers down at roughly the same time but unlike me, who went back to the game, Kev leaned over to turn the music down.

“What’s up?” I asked, knowing that the only reason he would turn the music down was because there was something he wanted to talk about.

“What do you think about Chase?” He asked randomly.

I furrowed my eyebrows, thinking about it for a few seconds before responding, “Who’s Chase?” I asked confused. I don’t think I know a Chase… Do I?

“Shit yeah that’s right” he chuckled, “I haven’t told you his name yet. Teegan’s Irish friend. I asked Skye and she said his name is Chase.” As he said this, he glanced it me over his shoulder.

“Ahk” I nodded, “Did she tell you anything else?” I asked, suddenly intrigued.

“Yeah – dammit!” he yelled as he got killed causing me to laugh at him. He punched me in the arm, almost making me drop the controller and die myself.

“Watch it!” I exclaimed, “Making history here!”

“I’m dead! Does it look like I care?”

“Well then get good scrub” I muttered under my breath. I couldn’t help but smirk as he glared at me from where he sat.

“I’m going to pretend you didn’t say that” He stated coldly. I chuckled. “He’s actually Teegan’s neighbour”, he continued; changing the subject back to Chase, “Been really close friends since he moved here from Ireland 4 years ago.”

“Close” I repeated, “How close?” I asked teasingly, wiggling my eyebrows at him suggestively.

“That’s what I asked!” he exclaimed, “She just laughed at me and said “No Way?”… What the hell does that mean?!” He threw his arms up into the air.

“Strange” I mumbled, thinking about it for a few seconds. “Maybe he’s ugly?” I suggested, voice laced with uncertainty.

“That’s what I thought” he admitted, “but I didn’t ask. You know how Skye is when it comes to her friends!”

I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at that. If I haven’t mentioned it yet, Skye is Kevin’s sister. Twins to be precise, not identical but twin’s none-the-less. She was born first though and he is constantly reminded of it. She is just about as attractive as a girl as Kevin is a guy. She’s absolutely gorgeous. Long chestnut brown hair with streaks of golden blonde, perfect height and curvy in all the right places. But as Kev has made perfectly clear, absolutely off limits. She’s one of the most elegant and charming girls you’ll ever meet… but get on her bad side or insult one of her friends and you’ll know about it. I swear she’s scarier than a poltergeist in your closet on laundry day.

“Besides,” he continued, “Nothing wrong with a little surprise” he shrugged. I nodded though I could tell it was bothering him. I can hardly blame him, if he was close friends with Imogen for 4 years then I’d be worried too.

“He’s Irish so he’s gotta love a good drink, right?” I grinned, changing the subject.

“He better!” he laughed, “Though I’ve also heard they love potatoes… You think he loves potatoes?” he sounded serious so I gave him a strange look before focusing back on the screen. He cracked up laughing and I couldn’t help but join in on it.

“Who doesn’t” I replied, still laughing. “So, where’s this magical adventure taking place?”

“Remember that place the my dad always took us not too far from here?” he asked.

I didn’t even have to think about it, “Next to the river?” I asked excitedly.

“That would be the one” he nodded.

“Yes” I cheered, “How could I forget?” I asked rhetorically, “Only good memories at that place”

“You know it” he grinned, “We already have all the shit we need. Just have to get the food, drinks, condoms, etc.” he listed off on his fingers, laughing quietly to himself.

“All the necessities” I agreed, “Better get all that stuff tomorrow, don’t want to be unprepared” I said wiggling my eyebrows.

“Just don’t get your hopes up too high” he sighed, “You know as well as I what Imogen’s like. As hot as she is she knows how to play the game better than anyone else I know”

I tried to ignore the truth in what he said but I couldn’t help but see where he was coming from. I’m not gonna lie, as confident as I was I had my doubts. “Don’t worry” I smirked, feigning confidence. “I’ll just have to bring my A-game won’t I- Fuck!” I yelled as I got killed. “I was just about to beat my record! This is all your fault”

“I think it’s a sign” he chuckled.

“Whatever” I groaned throwing my head back. I leaned forward, sighing into my hands just before his words sank in… could it be a sign?

Kev, Seb and I were the first to arrive at the camping area at around 1pm. Skye also use to come camping with us all them years ago so she already knows the way here. She’ll be arriving with the rest of them later, leaving the men to do all the work before they got here. Typical, I thought; laughing internally.

I turned the key, cutting off the ignition to my jeep. “Oh this is so cool” Seb exclaimed, jumping out of the car and slamming the door with a ‘thud’. I couldn’t help but laugh at his antics. I love that about Seb; one second he can be serious and mature then childish and immature the next, and he ain’t afraid to show it. He’s never been here before with us, and judging by his reaction, never been here at all.

“Just as I remember” I said opening my door… “Except for that” I chuckled pointing a Seb as he bounced up and down on his toes yelling for us to “hurry up”. Kevin didn’t reply. He just laughed as he swung his door open, got out and stretched out his back. I followed suit, climbing out of the door and pushing close behind me.

I breathed in long and deep, filling my nostrils with the fresh aroma of dirt and moss. Oh the nostalgia. The area was just as beautiful as I remember. The lush greens of the burrawangs and gumtrees in the bush to one side with a river running down the other side. It wasn’t too close to the camp site and you had to walk through a small path to get to it but you could still heard the faint sound of the water. There’s also a path that leads for a few hundred metres to another clearing. The area here is quite large and open, giving up plenty of room to have the tents quite spread out if we wanted.

Where we are technically isn’t a camping ground but it’s perfect for just that. You have to drive through the bushes for a short while to find it so not many people know about it so it’s nice and private; and looks nowhere near as worn and used as a lot of other camping grounds you see. Plenty of sticks and branches littered the grounds, which I was thankful for.

There’s already an old fire pit near the middle of the area, which has been there for as long as I remember. There’s also a long, think log running along one side of the pit; a little far away from the fire but useful none-the-less. I’m not sure if it was always there but I’m glad it is now.

I was bought out of my little moment when Kevin spoke up. “Might as well get out tents up now so we can laugh at the girls when the turn up in a few hours” he chuckled to himself, “Watch them not being able to set up their own tents.” We have no idea when the girls, and Chase, are getting here but it wouldn’t surprise me if they got here after dark. Poor guy. Even though it’s camping they still have to look their best. Has its perks though… well for us anyway.

“Sounds like a grand idea, squire” I laughed. Our tent is massive. More than enough room for 3 people. “Let’s get too it then. Maybe go exploring afterwards, check out the area and find some fire wood?” I suggested.

Kev was about to open his mouth when Seb spoke up, “Definitely! What are you’s waiting for?” he exclaimed running back to the jeep and popping the boot.

“He said it” Kev chuckled before turning and calmly making his way back to Seb.

I looked around one more time, admiring my surroundings before contently following suit. This week is going to be perfect.

We were just about finished setting up our tent when I heard the sound of an engine approaching the hill that leads into our little camp. I looked up at Kev and Seb and sure enough they also noticed the sound. We all turned and faced the hill and sure enough Kev’s black Ute came into view, closely followed by a khaki coloured jeep wrangler with an open top. You could see Teegan’s hair blowing around as she loudly sang along to the music next to an embarrassed looking guy who I’m assuming is Chase. Loud music could be heard coming from both of the vehicles. We all looked at each other in shock, even Seb, clearing surprised by how early the girls were in getting here.

Both of the cars were parked off to the side and Skye was the first to jump out of the vehicle. She wore short denim shorts with a tight white singlet covered by a loose flannelette shirt, unbuttoned the whole way down. Her long hair was tied into a loose ponytail. I couldn’t help but stare as her naturally tanned skin and thin, yet toned body.

I jumped when I felt someone punch my arm. I looked innocently at Kev who now stood next to me. “Eyes. Off.” He mouthed, motioning to his sister.

“You said no touching!” I exclaimed putting my hands up in surrender, “Nothing about staring”

“Just try not to make it so obvious” he sighed, shaking his head.

“No promises” I laughed, “Have you seen-“

“Just stop talking” he mumbled, walking over to greet his sister. Just as I was about to follow him, I stopped in my tracks as Imogen climbed out of the passenger side of Kevin’s ute. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor as she rounded the vehicle, her perfectly curved hips swaying as she walked. Like Skye, she wore short denim shorts that were frayed around the edges. She wore a loose white blouse with a tight black bra that you could see clearly through the thin fabric. Her hair was styled in a messy bun but it still looked amazing. I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand, making sure I hadn’t drooled before making my way over there. ‘Play it cool chase’ I repeated in my head. As I was walking over, I glanced over at the other jeep to see Teegan talking and laughing with Chase, who seemed a little nervous. We made eye contact for a brief second as I stared. He didn’t look too bad so why couldn’t he be “close” friends with Teegan? I pondered to myself.

“Trae” I heard a girl scream as she wrap he arms around my frame, startling me for a second. But I knew who’s sweet voice that was to so I wasted no time in wrapping my arms around her in return, giving a little squeeze so she could feel my muscle. “Imogen” I chuckled. God she smelt fantastic, vanilla with a hint of raspberry.

She pulled herself back “How have you been?” She asked with a smile on her lips, showing teeth and all, “It’s been so long!” She exclaimed. God that smile.

“It’s hardly been a week” I chuckled, “I’ve been great. Parties, gym, the usual” I grinned, “How have you been?”

“I can tell” She laughed, momentarily putting her hand on my chest. “You know me” She laughed, “Working, Girl things, the usual.” I know I had my doubts but seeing her now it’s certain. Imogen Taylor is as good as mine. Let the games begin.
