ย “Holy Crap!” Nari yelped, rather loudly, jumping into Hyeon-ju’s lap when a figure, smothered in green paint emerged from her window. Mr Moon sprang up, ushering them out the car before disappearing back down and crawling until he was out of sight. Nari raised her hand to her chest to steady her frantic heartbeat.

“You really went all out sir?” Woo-jin remarked, his eyes wide, wearily eyeing the face paint smearing every nook and crevice of his face.

“Oh, yeah. I had this lying around” Mr Moon said. “It really itches. I think it’s pretty old. Probably expired” he told them, and they followed after him, squatting on rather rocky terrain and hidden in the shadows. Mr Moon scowled when he noticed the unfamiliar face with them.

”Who is this?” he asked, gesturing to Da-min.

“Mr Oh’s granddaughter.” Nari said. “She’s a good shot. She’ll be useful” Da-min smiled and Mr Moon glanced at her then her equipment before nodding in approval.

“Okay, Archer and I will take the stairs from the parking lot and make our way to the top of the building. Our marines will charge in through the front gates and the girls will go through the back. Everyone cover everyone. Understood?”

They all nodded and chorused their understanding and then they separated.

“Stay safe alright” Geon-woo said, eyes flickering between Nari and Hyeon-ju, yet his worried eyes lingered on his girlfriend’s.

“We will” Nari assured, nodding at Hyeon-ju who reciprocated the sentiment. She dug in her pocket and pulled out her taser as the blue sparks came to life. “We won’t let them get close” Hyeon-ju promised.

“Don’t damage that pretty face too much” Nari teased, and Geon-woo’s lips curved into a pretty smile.

”Is that all you’re worried for. My pretty face?” he was teasing her, but he could see the worry in her eyes. A lot could go wrong tonight, and she knew they were walking into an ambush but what other choice did they have. They couldn’t allow Mr Oh to die. She couldn’t have more blood on her hands.

“Of course” she shrugged, but her smile was tentative.

”Then I’ll make sure it remains unscathed” he promised. “As long as you promise the same”

Nari smiled and nodded and then Woo-jin was dragging Geon-woo off while Hyeon-ju did the same to Nari.

“We’ll be okay” Hyeon-ju assured, noticing the worry in Nari’s eyes. Nari took a deep breath before they arrived at the door.

“Let’s kick some ass shall we” she said and Hyeon-ju lit up.

“Hell yeah”

The door squeaked and Nari’s breath evaporated on the spot. The two of them shimmied in and the door fell shut behind them with a chilling creak. The mall was empty and dark, probably abandoned too by how dusty and cold everything looked and felt.

Nari and Hyeon-ju made their way deeper in, careful with their footsteps to not draw any unwanted attention.

Hyeon-ju glanced over her shoulder when suddenly, Nari’s hand shot out and halted her in place. Hyeon-ju went to question her but Nari placed her finger to her lips and then pointed to two men, armed with a crowbar and metal bat respectively stood idly by a pillar. The one with the bat was swinging it around carelessly while the one with the crowbar was leaning against the pillar, his eyes closed and almost bored,

“When do you think they’ll get here?” the one with the bat said.

“Who honestly cares man. It’s not like they’re walking out of here alive” the other replied.

“I thought you guys killed them off?” the one with the bat questioned.

“We did” crowbar said. “Or, well, we thought we did. Dude was bleeding out from Mr Jung and then we burnt the house to the ground there was no way he’d survive”

“And that girl. The pretty one?” metal bat inquired, something sick in his eyes as he waited for his companion’s answer.

The one with the crowbar made a sound. ” Man I don’t know, I wasn’t there but what I heard was that she was taken care of, personally, by the boss”

“Ah man, she was so hot though. I would’ve loved to have had a one on one with her you know”

They laughed at the comment. Hyeon-ju noticed the way her friend tensed. Her jaw was locked and eyes furious. Her breathing was heavy and her fingers were tightly pressed into a ball at her side. Hyeon-ju placed a hand on her shoulder but Nari was already moving.

“I guess you will”

The men turned, suddenly alert.

“Who-” the one with the bat exclaimed before his words trailed as Nari stepped out of the shadows.

“Ah I guess dreams do come true” he remarked, his smile was revolting, and a shiver of disgust ran down her spine.

” Your mother ever tell you it’s disrespectful to speak about a woman like that” she chided and he frowned. ” No? I could tell. Scumbags don’t usually listen to those type of lessons do they. You’ll get your time. But not in the way you wanted “she derided, and his lips parted to ask her what the hell she was on about, but Nari suddenly charged.

The two men were taken by surprise at her sudden attack. The one with the bat swung blindly but Nari ducked and drove her knee into his crotch. The man shouted, stumbling back as his friend charged. Nari swerved as the metal grazed her cheek. She reached to grab his arm, sending a harsh jab to his liver and then another to his gut before throwing an even harsher one to his nose. His vision exploded in stars, and she used his moment of disorientation to place her heel against his chest and slam him into the pillar behind. Dust floated down onto him as his back crashed into it.

Nari extended her leg, kicking outwards as the other man managed to clamber to his feet before her foot met his chest and he stumbled. He recovered quick and swing his bat but Nari thrusted her arm out, grabbed it as her arm shook with force. She twisted it out his grasp, his arm twisting with it and he let go with a pained cry before she grabbed his shirt, kneed him in the stomach and then landed a blow to his jaw.

Hyeon-ju’s jaw dropped, jumping to her feet she went to aid her friend as the man with the crowbar stumbled to his feet and started approaching her. But Nari did not seem like she needed any help when he wrapped his arms around her, placing her into a headlock. Nari slammed her head back, her skull colliding with this nose while his hold on her faltered, allowing her to grab his arm and position her body where the man went sailing onto his back. He barely hit the ground when her boot crashed into his skull, knocking him out.ย

Nari noticed the man with the bat on the floor. The bat laying a few feet away and he was clutching his jaw with a furious look in his eyes. Nari stalked over to him, picking up the bat, she twirled it in her hand the way he did moments prior.

“Did this fulfil all your fantasies?” she hated the way it sounded on her tongue. She hated that after everything she had been through, lowlife jerks could still rile her up. She hated how insignificant he made her feel in a passing comment. Nari wanted to throw up.

His smile only fuelled her hatred.

“You’re a sick excuse of a man” she hissed. “If you ever talk about women that way again, I’ll make sure you never talk again” and then she swung the bat so hard, a crack reverberated through her skull as his body slumped against the ground. He was still breathing but definitely not waking up anytime soon.

Nari didn’t care that she may have nearly killed them but as of late Nari didn’t really care about much as their end goal was growing clearer and closer every day.

Hyeon-ju stood, her eyes growing concerned as her friend stood over the two limp men, her breathing heavy and knuckled raw with the bat just dangling at her side. She was staring down at them as if wishing they were dead and debating if she should finish it. Hyeon-ju had only ever seen this look once before, in the subway where Nari had saved her.

ย
“Nari” Hyeon-ju called and the woman turned. ” Let’s go” she said, and Nari barely coaxed a nod and made her way into the main atrium where the boys surely would be.

Hyeon-ju followed her but her eyes went back to the bodies on the floor and the blood oozing around their heads.ย
