Morning Light – The Next Day

Sunlight streamed softly through the curtains, painting the room in hues of gold and quiet.

Jungkook stirred first.

His arms instinctively pulled Jimin closer, eyes still closed, nuzzling into his hair. But when he blinked them open and saw the peaceful curve of Jimin’s lips, the even rise and fall of his chest – relief washed over him all over again.

He’s here.

Jungkook stayed like that for a long while, just watching him. Their legs still tangled under the blanket, Jimin’s hand resting lightly over Jungkook’s heart.

Eventually, he slipped out of bed carefully, placing a feather-light kiss to Jimin’s temple before leaving the room.

In the kitchen, he worked quietly.

The coffee brewed low and rich.

Pancakes sizzled gently in the pan, Jungkook humming under his breath as he flipped them with practiced ease. He sliced fresh strawberries into heart shapes, added a drizzle of honey, and arranged everything on a tray. He even found the little ceramic mug Jimin loved – the one with sleepy kittens hugging a pillow.

When he returned, Jimin was just waking up, sitting up with messy hair and pillow lines on his cheek. He blinked, still groggy, until he saw Jungkook holding the breakfast tray and smiling softly at the doorway.

“Good morning, my angel,” Jungkook said gently.

Jimin’s eyes widened, surprised. “What’s this?”

Jungkook padded over and placed the tray on Jimin’s lap, sitting beside him.

“A thank-you,” he murmured, brushing Jimin’s hair back. “For coming back to me.”

Jimin’s throat tightened. “You didn’t have to-“

“I wanted to,” Jungkook said, taking his hand. “I almost lost you yesterday. I want every morning with you to start with love.”

Jimin swallowed hard, touched to the core. “You’re really trying to make me cry over pancakes, huh?”

Jungkook chuckled softly and kissed the corner of his mouth. “Strawberry hearts. You can’t cry when there are strawberry hearts.”

Jimin laughed tearfully. “You’re ridiculous.”

“Hopelessly in love,” Jungkook grinned.

Jimin picked up a fork, cutting a piece of pancake and feeding it to Jungkook first. “Then eat with me, Mr. Hopeless.”

Jungkook obeyed with a playful hum, then fed Jimin back, brushing a bit of syrup from the edge of his lips with his thumb. “Delicious.”

“I know I am,” Jimin winked.

They laughed quietly, stealing bites and kisses between sips of coffee, Jimin’s head occasionally resting on Jungkook’s shoulder as if needing the reassurance he was real – he was there.

When the tray was nearly empty, Jimin placed it on the nightstand and turned to face Jungkook fully.

“Thank you,” he said softly, cupping Jungkook’s face. “For loving me like this.”

“You made it easy,” Jungkook murmured, his eyes shining. “You are love.”

They held each other in the quiet glow of the morning – the taste of syrup still on their lips, the scent of coffee in the air, and the echo of second chances wrapped around their hearts.
