I jumped slightly as I heard a twig snap. Will looked down at me, unsure of what to make of the noise. If that was a monster of any kind…
I got up, and Will followed. His train of thought seemed to be going in the same direction of mine. He grumbled about not having a weapon, and I rolled my eyes.
In a fond way, of course, but he huffed indignantly at it anyway.
I drew my sword and my eyes flickered over the few trees and bushes that were behind us. Another twig snapped.
“This is like some terrible horror movie,” Will pointed out.
“Not helping,” I said, gripping my sword tighter. I walked towards the bush that had made the noise. I held my sword up high, and was about to swing when-
“Wait! Nico, it’s us!” Jason yelled, stumbling backwards out of the bush with Percy in tow. The son of Jupiter looked frightened to the bone, whereas Percy only looked mildly startled.
Well, that’s what a pleasant walk in the deepest, darkest part of the underworld does to you, am I right?
I scowled at the two of them. “What in Hades’ name are you doing here?”
Jason stumbled pitifully across his words. “Well- we- I- um… so-“
“Bro. I can explain,” Percy said calmly. “We’re here to spy on the two of you.”
“Percy! They weren’t meant to-“
“Stop. Both of you look at me,” I said, scowling. Although, it was probably less harsh than I intended it to be, as when I said it Will placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. “You’re going to leave the both of us alone, you understand?”
Jason and Percy nodded, and were quick to leave. I sighed.
“Well, should we carry on with the date?” Will asked.
“Of course.”
