Liam walks home as fast as he can. He can’t be at school anymore. He can’t sit in a classroom and ‘learn’ something. He can’t stand to see Zayn again, after their little incident. So he leaves school. When he gets to his house he opens the door, and quickly slams it shut. Paul walks out of the kitchen, eyes wide and a bit angry.
“Liam what are you…”
“I saw them.” He cuts Paul off, wiping his nose with the back of his sleeve. “I saw my parents.” Liam speaks, really to no one in particular. “I saw them Paul. And they saw me. They looked right at me and then I watched them…” Liam trails off as his eyes begin to water up.
Paul walks over to him, wrapping him in a tight hug. Liam grips Paul’s back and begins to cry again. He doesn’t care if this makes him look weak. He’s confused and hurt and he needs to cry. Needs to let all of it out. So he does. And when he’s finished, Paul moves them over to the sofa.
“I know this is hard Liam, but I need you to tell me everything.” Paul whispers, and Liam does. He tells Paul all that he saw and heard, with Paul nodding along as if he’s taking mental notes of everything Liam is saying.
“I just… I don’t get it. Was it a vision or something? Can I…”
“No Liam it wasn’t a vision. And no you can’t save your parents. They are already dead.” Paul speaks sadly and Liam nods, with the realization of his parents actually being dead sinking in. Because yeah he knew they were gone, but actually hearing it makes it all so much more real.
“So what was it then? And who was that guy?”
“He was the ruler of the Zodian people.” Paul sighs and Liam slowly nods. “This could either mean one of two things, both very bad Liam. One is probably worst than the other though, but bad nonetheless.”
“Ok.”
“It means he’s either on his way to Earth and he’s trying to worm his way into your head to confuse you. Or, he’s here already.” Paul stands and walks into his bedroom.
“But Paul if he’s here, whoever this guy is, than that means…”
“He knows you’re here. Maybe not specific location, but he knows you’re here on Earth Liam.” Paul walks back out with some papers that are tattered and torn. “The prophecy said you will save the planet and destroy the Zodian race. He must know that now.”
“Paul, I know how I say I’m strong and all of that, but I’m not ready to face him now.” Liam speaks fast, scared of the future.
“I know. All we can do is continue to train and keep an eye out for anything, non-human. Alright? Don’t worry Liam. I believe in you.” Paul gives Liam a warm smile and a pat on the shoulder.
Liam nods and stands from the sofa. He bites his bottom lip, before walking toward the stairs. Nodding his head when Paul says that they will train later. He gets to his room and looks at the chest, that is still resting in the corner. He levitates it to his bed and tries to open in again, thinking that maybe it will open now. Especially if the Zodians are coming, if not already on, Earth. But it doesn’t. Liam sighs and tosses it back to the ground, opting to rest a little bit before training with Paul.
Liam misses a few days of school. And surprisingly Paul lets him. They’ve been training hard and Liam’s been tired and way too sore to do anything. But he’s back now. Of course people talk about him. Whispering how ‘different’ he is, but he ignores them. Doesn’t care much and honestly he feels like he has too much on his plate to worry about insignificant teenagers.
He collects his missed work from his teachers and decides to go to the library for lunch. That is of course when he finally finds the library. He finishes a lot of his work quite quickly, and maybe it’s because he snagged some of the answers from his teachers (he does have powers and all). Liam hears the chair across from him being pulled out and when he looks up he’s met with a pair of turquoise blue eyes. He internally groans and looks back down at his books.
“Well hello to you too Liam.” Louis speaks and Liam stares at him.
“What do you want Louis? I’m trying to finish some work that I missed.” Liam speaks softly.
“Why have you been gone for so many days?”
“I fell ill and had to miss some school.”
“Oh.” Louis responds shortly, looking up at the ceiling before back at Liam. “So what’s up with you and Zayn?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about?” Liam shrugs, glancing away from Louis and back to his book.
“He’s been all sad and depressed lately. And I’m guessing it has something to do with you.”
“Well maybe it’s something else.” Liam shrugs nonchalantly because why would Zayn feel anyway about him?
“You should ask him what’s wrong.”
“Why don’t you? You’re his best friend.” Liam glares at Louis who doesn’t seem to be affected.
“Because he likes you.” Louis states as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “And he hates me, honestly Liam.” Louis grins and Liam laughs.
The bell rings and Liam gathers his things, tossing them in his bag. Louis stands from his seat and looks at Liam with sad eyes.
“We all miss you, you know. Not just Zayn, but Niall and I as well.” And with that, Louis is walking out of the library.
Liam groans and checks his phone. He see’s he has a voicemail from Paul. He listens to it and hears Paul say how he might of found something and is driving to the town over, so Liam has to walk home. Liam rolls his eyes as he listens to the message, before hanging up his phone.
His day ends and Liam slings his bag over his shoulder walking out the school. He makes his way in the direction of his home. He knows the walk will be pretty far but he doesn’t mind. Needs the fresh air after being in school all day. He has his headphones in and is listening to The Neighborhood (and yeah he would agree that they aren’t that bad, but he will never admit that to Zayn). He’s humming along when he feels someone walking behind him. He tenses slightly and turns around only to be met with a pair of amber eyes.
“You have some nerve Payne.” Zayn speaks harshly and Liam removes his earbuds, staring at Zayn blankly.
“I don’t…”
“Yes you do! You can’t just kiss me, then tell me you can’t see me anymore! And then you don’t come to school for three days?” Zayn glares and Liam nods.
“I apologize for that. I understand how that could be very confusing to you. And I’m sorry.” Liam nods and turns back around, beginning to walk home again.
“Oh no, no, no. You are not off that easy.” Zayn steps in front of him, stopping Liam from walking. “You still have to explain why you’ve been avoiding me.”
“I haven’t been avoiding you.”
“Yes you have. No phone calls. No text messages. And you haven’t been sitting with us at lunch.” Zayn sighs and looks at his hands. “Was it something I did?” He whispers.
“No.” Liam responds, quickly and Zayn looks up at him.
“Then why?”
“Because I just… I can’t see you anymore.” He sighs and Zayn shakes his head.
“No. I deserve more than that.”
“Zayn…” Liam groans, rolling his eyes.
“You can’t just stop talking to someone and not have reason behind it.”
“I already told you…”
“That’s bullshit and you know it.” Zayn pokes his chest and Liam sighs. “Tell me.”
“No.”
“Tell me.” Zayn pokes him again.
“No.”
“Liam, tell me.” Zayn speaks a little harsher and Liam starts to get angry.
“No.”
“Tell. Me.”
“No!” He yelles, raising his hands and Zayn’s eyes go wide.
Liam doesn’t really understand, until he sees every car that was parked along the street raised in the air. He looks back at Zayn who is still staring at him in shock. Liam lowers his hands and the cars do the same, touching the ground softly. He steps toward Zayn, who just steps back.
“Zayn…”
“No. Don’t… What…”
“I can explain just…” Liam tries but Zayn steps back, tears welling up in his eyes.
“How can… You just… What are… Don’t.”
“Please just…” Liam tries again, and Zayn steps back some more.
“Don’t touch me.”
And that hurt. Probably hurt Liam a lot more then he would have expected. But Zayn has that look in his eyes. The look of judgement and fear. And Liam can’t blame him, because he just raised about twenty cars with his mind. If he was Zayn he’d be afraid too. He tries to step toward Zayn again, but Zayn takes off. Running in the opposite direction.
Liam groans wiping his eyes, and running home. He walks up to his room and slams his door. He knows Paul isn’t home yet. Probably won’t be until later. And he’s happy about that. Doesn’t really feel like explaining to Paul why he’s a crying mess. Especially since he is supposed to be staying away from Zayn and laying low.
When Liam wakes up he hears Paul snoring. He smiles slightly, before getting out of bed. He pops his shoulders and goes to walk out his room. That is until he hears a noise. A tapping on his window. He faces the window and sees a tiny stone, being tossed at it. And then another. Followed by another. He walks over to the window and sees Zayn. Liam smiles widely and opens his window.
“What are you doing here?” He whispers and Zayn shrugs slightly.
“I guess I’m a little too persistent and a hell of a lot crazy.”
