Chapter One
‘You need to get out of bed,’ Ryker stated, shrugging on the white shirt he had laid out the previous night before going to sleep. Joshua was safely tucked under the covers unmoving as he watched his boyfriend cover his tan skin inch by inch, his own body still heavy with sleep.
‘You should take your clothes off,’ he retorted sleepily, his gaze never leaving Ryker’s’ body as he finished buttoning the rest of his shirt up before leaning down to pick up the jeans he would never go without. The look always managed to drive Joshua insane; he was the perfect combination of badass and sexy – one he had yet to explore himself. He couldn’t wait until the opportunity arose.
Despite the uncomfortable feeling Ryker got at his words, he shook it off. ‘And miss the chance to take you outside of these walls after two weeks? No, thank you,’ he joked back before strolling into the ensuite bathroom to the right, patting some aftershave into his skin. It was Joshua’s favourite.
‘Ha-ha,’ he deadpanned, lying completely on his stomach so his voice was slightly muffled. He didn’t really want to go outside – he was just doing this for Ryker. Even if it was to see other members of the gang, Joshua preferred to stay inside and be warm. He didn’t see anything wrong with that.
Jumping slightly at a sudden pat to his ass, Joshua startled at the sound of breathing down his neck. He hadn’t even heard Ryker come back inside, let alone get so close.
‘Get up,’ he demanded in his ear as he lightly squeezed where his hand lay, hastily exiting the room with a huge grin on his face.
Joshua could only groan into his pillow at his boyfriend’s actions; the blanket doing nothing to stop the heat from his hand pressing into his skin. It made him not want to leave the warmth of their bed even more.
Grudgingly, he rose before stumbling his way to the shower, not bothering to close the door as he stripped from his clothes.
He might as well get it over with.
–
‘Go change,’ Ryker demanded as soon as Joshua came down the stairs, stopping the younger boy before he entered the kitchen. There was no mistaking the stern tone in his voice, and it caused Joshua to hide a smile.
‘Why?’ he questioned innocently, glancing down at his outfit as if he couldn’t see what was wrong with it. He found the thigh highs and shorts very appropriate, as well as the baggy t-shirt of Ryker’s that hung off his body. All of his left shoulder was exposed with how it lay on him; daring to reveal even more if he was to bend down. There was no denying that he looked hot. Ryker wouldn’t make such a big deal out of it if he didn’t.
‘No one is to see you like this but me,’ he said lowly, his steel grey eyes piercing into his boyfriend’s. It was times like this that reminded Joshua of just who he was dating; the power he held coming through from the dangerous lilt to his voice. ‘All they do is think with their di-‘
‘I wish you would,’ Joshua interrupted, mumbling, never looking away from Ryker – his blue eyes seeming to dull. He didn’t mean for his boyfriend to hear his words, but it was clear that he did. He couldn’t bring himself to feel bad, even with how the others’ demeanour changed after hearing what he said; how he physically slumped as if losing all his power. Joshua kept his face neutral despite the bitterness he suddenly felt over the situation, the urge to scream overwhelming him.
It was quiet for a while; the two just stared at each other. ‘Go get changed,’ Ryker eventually settled on before turning his back and walking into the living room, his voice noticeably less demanding than before.
All Joshua could do was stare at where his boyfriend once stood while processing his words, emotions warring inside of him. He didn’t expect his morning to take a turn like this.
Turning back toward the stairs, he silently went to change his clothes.
–
The only word to describe the car ride to the gang house was awkward. Neither was able to look at the other, let alone speak. It was so silent.
There were often fights like this the past four months Joshua had been trying for more; craving an intimacy with his boyfriend he couldn’t seek anywhere else. It always ended the same way. The two couldn’t stay mad at each other for longer than an hour when the topic of the argument was this, but it still caused Joshua’s mind to whirl in that short time.
He had changed into the tightest pair of jeans he could find after returning upstairs, choosing to keep the shirt on due to the comfy feel of it. He always had to wear at least one item of Ryker’s no matter where they went; it made him feel safe. The tight jeans were to get back at his boyfriend for constantly denying him, although the hoodie he threw on to cover up showed that he wasn’t really angry – just frustrated. He never seemed to get any answers for why things were the way they were between the two. He just wanted to know why.
From the beginning, Ryker had never participated in anything sexual with Joshua despite how much the younger boy wanted it. He tried so hard when they had gotten together, before deciding to give up – which had ended four months ago. He knew that if he tried hard enough, he would get what he wanted; whether that be an explanation or sex – either worked.
Ryker had always referred to himself as asexual. Despite this being enough of a reason for some, it wasn’t for Joshua; he knew his boyfriend too well. There was something else, something he couldn’t just outright ask. He had to wait.
A soft touch against his skin bought him out of his thoughts, his gaze lowering to his lap where his hands lay. Opening his palm, Ryker laced their fingers together before giving a soft squeeze, resting them on Joshua’s lap.
The soft reassurance was enough for Joshua to know they were okay again; to let go of the frustration and thoughts he previously had as he settled back into his seat. His heart warmed as the now comfortable silence surrounded them, neither needing to speak to fix things. They worked so well together when it came to everything else.
Now they just had to get through a day with the boys.
