The next two months were spent either in the library until all hours or lying in Domingo’s arms, that is literally it bed and study, study and bed. Not a particularly thrilling existence but the time spent with Dom even if we were both half asleep made up for the monotony of college life. Lucas had improved slightly but only by an inch but now that I was aware of the problem – Elliot – I saw no need to constantly watch him in case he decided to top himself or anything.
He would get his happy ending I was sure of it, even if that didn’t include my brother. Lucas was a strong person and he would find a way to come out the other end of this black hole he had found himself in. In the meantime just like Dom and I, Lucas had thrown himself into his work as it was seriously important that we all passed otherwise the past four years were for nothing.
My exams were after Dom and Lucas’ which were due to start tomorrow and watching them cram for them was worrying. I knew I had worked hard but the niggling feeling that it wasn’t enough and that I could fail would have me turning grey prematurely. I guess that’s why I had the crazy idea that cramming like this was not the answer and what we needed to do was chill out for a few hours and give our minds time to rest and absorb the information.
So here we all are in the library yet again, Dom has his nose so close to the book he can smell it and I feel like he’s about to pull out a knife and fork and start eating it. Lucas has his hands gripping his hair so tightly that his forehead is red raw and well I am in a complete trance staring at those two.
“Ok enough!” I slammed my book down making them both look up. “This is not going to help us pass, I think we should just leave it because if we haven’t learnt it by now it’s too late anyway.”
“You have another three days though Charlie that’s easy for you to say.” Dom replied stressed.
“Makes no difference babe if it’s not already in there after two months then it’s not going to go in in the next seventy two hours. So I suggest we go have something to eat and a few drinks chill out and let our minds absorb what we have already covered. We have been in this room for six hours!” I groaned.
“I agree with Charlie Dom.” Lucas piped up.
“YES! That’s one, Dom?” I asked smiling.
“Sure fine but if I fail you better make me a kept woman Charlie.” He chuckled.
“Aw Dom I would have done that anyway your much too delicate to work you might break a nail sweetheart.” I mocked him.
“Shut up! Let’s go.” He said trying to mask his grin.
We all packed up our stuff and went to dump it in our dorm room, then we made our way to the local grill for some beer and their famous wings. Louisiana hot wings, they were so nice and I always got a portion just for me which may not seem much but I am sure you get like twenty wings. I went to the bar and ordered while Dom and Lucas found a booth so that we could watch the football on the television, then we proceeded to have some fun.
We couldn’t get drunk considering their first exam was tomorrow but a few beers and a few games of pool later and I could tell that they had relaxed. Plus now they would get a good night sleep ready for tomorrow whereas if we had stayed in the god forsaken library then I knew they wouldn’t have slept a wink. When we made it back to the dorm room, Lucas collapsed and was asleep within minutes. Chuckling I turned to Dom who had that knowing look on his face and I playfully rolled my eyes as if it was a chore.
He stripped himself of his shirt and trousers then he walked over to me to help me out of my own. As he worked to strip me his soft lips found mine in one of the most romantic kisses that we have shared yet, it was slow and gentle but still full of the same passion. His tongue, so inquisitive was moving around every inch of my mouth and having him close to me in this intimate way was everything to me.
When I couldn’t breathe I pulled away but continued across his cheek to his ear and down his jaw line and onto his neck. I nibbled gently at the soft skin and licked over his soft spot successfully making his body shiver. As I worked on kissing him he had stripped me of all of my clothing, turning to make sure Lucas was still sleeping I moved to get under the covers.
You probably think we are perverted doing this but after four years we have perfected this so that Lucas doesn’t wake to see something that may scar him for life. Dom climbed into bed beside me and I took up where I left off trailing my kisses down his neck towards his chest. He was careful to keep his reactions in and I would receive the occasional squeeze when it was too much for him.
I moved back up to kiss his lips helping him to stifle the moans that were getting harder to keep quiet. He rolled us so that I was underneath him, then he pulled away for a moment prepare me and then he gently slipped in and I sighed in pleasure.
We moved in sync knowing how to work alongside one another perfectly. My lips never left his the entire time and I raised my hands to cup his face as I moved them delicately against his. His own hand moved to push my hair out of my face then trailed down my face, stopping by my side where he used it to prop himself up.
My body shuddered and my toes curled as I released, Dom’s body went rigid as he fought to remain silent then he collapsed on top of me breathing heavily. I continued to kiss him all over his face as he calmed his body down again, ending up back on his lips and I smiled into the kiss. That was perfect as it always is, Domingo and I were meant to be. I am aware of how cheesy that sounds but we have been best friends for so long if I was going to be happy then I couldn’t imagine it being with anyone else.
He gently pulled away and rolled off me, wrapping me up tightly in his arms we were rocked gently to sleep by the motion of each other’s breathing.

Exams were hard. I mean ridiculously tough but I was positive that I had put everything I had into them and I would pass. How well I would pass, I wasn’t sure but as long as it was enough to get into Albuquerque general then I would be ecstatic. Dom and Lucas were also pleased with how they had done and tomorrow we would all find out if it had been enough, graduation was the day after and I couldn’t wait to see my parents again.
Today we were celebrating with everyone on campus because despite the results college was officially over and I would never have to go to that bloody library ever again! I have to admit I was pretty drunk right now and I was swaying madly as Dom, Lucas and I made our way to the next bar, I need some food and fast.
We sat at a booth and I ordered a huge burger and fries, Lucas went to the bar to order drinks and I watched him go. Domingo had a hold of my hand, his fingers laced with mine as we watched a tall, dark and handsome man approach Lucas. I looked at Dom and his face mirrored my own, I wasn’t sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing as Lucas had been avoiding the topic of dating since Elliot left.
He didn’t look impressed with whatever the stranger was telling him but he was man enough to deal with it himself, however when the man placed his hand on Lucas’ ass Dom was ready to jump up and save the day. I place a palm gently on his chest and pushed him back down, Lucas could do this, he would decide if this man was over stepping or not.
I watched as Lucas said something to the man which made him flinch slightly but he quickly composed himself and moved closer to him. His hand was back on Lucas’ ass and his other hand stroked his face, this time Lucas pushed him away slightly and when the man’s hand moved to cup him Lucas punched him in the face.
“I SAID I WAS TAKEN YOU PERV!” I heard him scream.
The barman came around and Lucas was shouting about what the man had attempted to do. Once the explanation had been given the barman physically dragged the man from the bar and threw him out. I was surprised by that but I was pleased they took Lucas seriously and I was completely proud of my friend for not only sticking up for himself but holding out for my brother for so long. I hope Elliot made it worth his while!
The night went smoothly after that, we didn’t need to say anything to Lucas I was sure he could tell by our grins how we felt he handled the situation. The smirk on his face when he saw us beaming at him was priceless and he chuckled to himself as he handed us our drinks.
Our heads the next day hurt so badly, I was sure that mine would get up and walk out on me if it had the option. It took me a good two hours to even move to go to the toilet, the pain killers made no difference and I needed food to get rid of the hangover and I knew there was only one thing that would help. McDonalds!
Lucas drove us to the nearest drive thru and when the kind, lovely, beautiful lady placed that hot, cheesy burger in my hand I knew that everything was going to be ok. I ate my food with the speed of light and downed my drink to wash it all down and as predicted I could feel myself picking up already. It was then that I decided to remember the fact that it was results day and the gasp that left my mouth had Dom and Lucas looking at me as if I was going to collapse.
“It’s results day how could we forget?!” I panicked.
“Calm down Charlie that’s where I am heading now, but I don’t know how you could forget?” Lucas replied.
“Hey leave my boyfriend alone Lucas, it’s not his fault he is mentally challenged until he gets food in him.” Dom smirked.
“Ha bloody Ha. Just drive I need to know if I passed, like now!” I squirmed nervous now.
The ten minute drive felt to me like it was ten hours, my legs bounced up and down and my hand that was laced with Dom’s was continuously clenching. My lip was sore from biting it and my other hand was trying to rip my eyebrows out, something I always seemed to do when I was nervous. My attention was diverted when I felt Dom rubbing soft circles onto my hand with his thumb trying to sooth me and I looked up and he was smiling at me.
I relaxed, how could I not with him beside me? We pulled up at the student hall where the results would be and we walked slowly into the packed building, I searched the boards for my name and when I found myself I almost hit the floor. I had passed and not only had I passed but I had done it with top marks!
Dom and Lucas had also passed, Lucas not as well but he was still pleased as he knew the reason he didn’t put as much effort in was because he had been having a difficult time the last few years. It was still enough to get him into teaching with Dom though and the pair of them were completely thrilled with it.
“I can’t wait to get home and stay there. It’s funny I always dreamed about coming to Cali but I miss Albuquerque so much it will be good to get back into a routine there.” Dom sighed.
“I know what you mean, I can’t wait to start at the hospital.” I replied.
I already had my job lined up, it was grade dependant but now that I had passed I had no doubt that they would take me on. I couldn’t wait to get to work and learn the ropes, I have always wanted to work at the hospital it was the next best thing to the children’s hospital back in England.
Tomorrow I would graduate and I would walk across that stage as Charlie Adams to collect my diploma and I would leave that stage Dr Charlie Adams. I still can’t comprehend this, all of the work, all of the late nights and stupid arguments had been worth it in the end.

My parents arrived into the campus early the next morning, they had decided on an RV instead of a minivan so that everyone would be comfortable, which would be great if the damn thing wasn’t so embarrassing. I cringed as my mum climbed down and ran straight towards me, gripping me in a tight hug and almost knocking the air out of me. She was gushing on and on about how proud she was until my dad stepped in and prized her away from me.
We all went together to pick up our caps and gowns then we made our way to the outdoor area where the graduation would be held. It seemed to go quite quick from start to end and when the Dean called our Dr Adams my parents were literally (and very embarrassingly) jumping up and down in front of everyone.
Afterwards as promised my parents took everyone to celebrate which went on until the early hours of the morning, they were all sleeping on the RV which made things easier. Dom, Lucas and I would be spending another week here in Cali packing everything up then we were homeward bound. I was so excited to start my future in my new job and in my new apartment with the only person I could dream of sharing this with Domingo Mendez.
