Louis Tomlinson is blind. He has been since the day he was born. He has gone through years of constant harassment. Aside from his family, there has only one person to stay by Louis’ side. That person is Liam Payne.
[VERY VERY SHORT]
**Louis’ POV**
It’s the worst feeling. When you feel like everyone in the room is staring at you, but when you’re me, you can’t look around to make sure they’re not. However, I know people can’t help but look at the guy wearing extremely tinted glasses and waving a long stick around. I’ve been blind my entire life, yet I have never been able to understand why people have the need to stare at everyone and anyone who’s different than their interpretation of normal. It’s even worse when people try to claim that they understand what you’re going through. They don’t. They never will. Well I could always stab them in the eyes with my stick and make them understand. Nah, I wouldn’t be able to find their eyes because I can’t use my own.
A knock at my bedroom pulls me out of my thoughts.
“Come in.” The door opens.
“Hey, Louis.” It’s Liam! My best, and only, friend.
“Hi Liam.” I smile; I think I smiled. I never really know if my facial expressions match my emotions. Liam likes to help me with that.
“That’s a great smile, Lou. You should do that more often.” I hear Liam walk across the room then I feel my bed dip as he sits on it.
“I’ll always smile for you, Liam.”
“Have you ever gone out without your stick?” He asked a few minutes later. He was running his fingers through my hair.
“No, I’ve always been too nervous.” I said awkwardly.
“Do you want to try?” I felt the bed move again. Liam stood up. He grabs my hands and helps me stand up. “You can wrap your arm around my waist,” he moves my arm, “and I’ll put my arm around your shoulders.”
“Wait.” I say.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I just need my glasses.” I feel Liam leave. But he soon returned, putting my glasses on for me. “Thank you.”
“No problem, Lou.” He said as he put us back in our previous positions. We start to walk slowly because I’m still nervous. “Relax, Louis. Trust me. I will not let anything happen to you.”
“I trust you, Liam.” I relax a little bit and we continue walking. We make it to my front door before we stop again. “Mum! Liam and I are going out. Love you.” I call out.
“Okay. Be careful. Love you, too.” She called back. And with that Liam and I walked out the door.
“So, Louis, anywhere specific you would like to go?” Liam asked. But did it really matter? For one, I wouldn’t be able to see no matter where we went, and two, any place where Liam is is a place I’d like to be.
“Somewhere with water? Even though I can’t see it, I like to listen to it.”
“Does the beach sound good?” I nodded. “Then off we go.”
Our walk started off slow, mostly because I was not use to walking with my stick. Eventually, we were able to walk a little faster. We walked for what felt like forever, when it was really about twenty minutes, and we finally reached the beach. We sit on a bench. I expected Liam to move his arm away, but he didn’t.
“Hey, Liam?” He hummed in response. “Can I put my head on your shoulder?”
“Of course, Lou. You don’t even have to ask.” I smiled to myself and rested my head on his shoulder. We sat there for a while. Liam rubs his hand up and down my arm. I can feel people staring at us, but for the first time, I don’t really care.
“I really like this- being with you.” I say after some time. “And the calming sounds of this place definitely add to the experience. I wish life could always be like this.”
“I feel the same way, Lou.” I can literally hear him smiling. I picked up my head off his shoulder and turned in his general direction.
“Really?” He grabs my hand.
“Yeah, really.” He brings his other hand up to my face and runs his thumb across my cheekbone. “You’re so beautiful.” He said quietly.
“You think so?” I felt my cheeks heat up.
“Think what?”
“That I’m beautiful.”
“I said that out loud?” He asked.
“Yeah.”
“Well it’s true. You are really beautiful, Louis.”
“Not as much as you.” I said.
“You can’t even see me, Lou. What makes you think I’m beautiful?”
“You’re personality; the way you treat me. It’s all beautiful. Aside from my family, you’re the only one who has stayed by my side. I’ve really liked the way things have been, but I would really like for there to be something more between us.” I nervously play with Liam’s hand.
“Can I kiss you?”
“Y-yeah. But I’ve never, um, kissed anyone before.” I stammered.
“Just do what feels natural.” I nodded. Liam moved closer to me and gently pressed his lips against mine. I pushed my lips back against his. Slowly, our lips started to move in sync. We kissed until we pull away because the need for air became too great. I feel my way up his arm until hands are behind his neck.
“That was…” I started.
“Amazing.” He finished. I nodded and smiled.
“I always wanted my first kiss to be at the beach.” I revealed. “I also wanted it to be with you, so I think it’s safe to assume that I’m the happiest man in the world right now.” I laughed. I could hear Liam smiling at me. He moved my arms from around him to in front of him and held my hands. He gets up and helps me stand with him.
“Do you want to go to my flat?” He asks. “I know you don’t have to deal with this, but I’m not a huge fan of seeing couples making out in public places.”
“So were a couple?” I felt my cheeks heat up again.
“Um, yeah, uh but o-only if you want to. If you don’t I t-” I lean in and my lips match perfectly against his; cutting him off. He pushed his lip against mine in a short, soft kiss.
“I want to. I really, really want to.” I say as I pull away.
“Great! So, shall we go, boyfriend?” He asked.
“I believe we shall, boyfriend.” I allowed him to move my arm around his waist and wrap his arm around my shoulders. The walk to his flat was a little longer than the walk from my house.
“Okay, so I live on the third floor and I do not trust the elevator here. Would you mind if I carried you up the stairs?”
“I wouldn’t mind at all, Li, but I am capable of walking up stairs.” I smile. “I have a method. Just lead the way.” He responds with an ‘okay’ and we start walking. Liam lets me know when we reach the stairs. With the use of my method, and a little bit of help from Liam, we both make up the two flights of stairs and to Liam’s door.
“And… we are here.” I hear his door as it squeaks open. He guides me in and closes and locks the door behind himself. “Would you like to go to the living room or the bedroom?”
“Either one is fine.” Liam kisses the side of my head before we start walking. We walk until we reach another squeaky door; I assume this is his bedroom.
“It’s a good thing we came in when we did. It looks like it a about to rain.” He said as we sat on his bed.
“I hope it’s not a thunderstorm.” I say quietly.
“Why? I thought you loved the rain.”
“I do. But I hate thunder. You know how there is a flash of lightning before a crack of thunder?” He hums. “I obviously can’t see the lightning, so I have no idea when the next rattle of thunder will happen, and it scares me.” I admit. Liam rubs my shoulder before responding.
“You’ve never told me that, Lou.”
“It never came up.” I said dismissively. Just then, the sound of pouring rain fills the room.
“How about I close the windows, put on some music, and try to distract you?” He suggests.
“What do you mean by ‘distract me’?” I ask.
“You’ll have to wait and find out.” He says smugly. He kisses my cheek before standing up and going to close the windows and put on music. I recognize the song that comes on as “Slow Hands” by a new solo artist named Niall Horan. I feel the bed move as Liam crawls on it, stoping right behind me. “Well, this song seems appropriate.” He whispers in my ear before he kisses his down to the base of my neck. My whole body relaxes as I tilt my head to the side.
That’s when I heard the first crack of thunder.
I wince at the sudden sound. Liam wraps his arms around my front and holds me close.
“Do you want to lie down?” I nodded. Liam pulled me down to lay with him. I bring myself as close to him as possible and bury my head into his chest. Time goes by and thunder cracks, but I wasn’t scared. With Liam cuddling me and whispering sweet nothings, I almost forgot it was actually raining.
“Liam?” I lift my head up.
“Yeah?”
“Can you kiss me?” As soon as the words leaving my mouth, Liam’s lips are on mine. The kiss wasn’t slow, but is wasn’t fast either. It was… comfortable. Soon enough our kisses get lazier and lazier until the point where our mouths are just against each other. I didn’t mind, and I’m assuming Liam didn’t either, so we stayed like that. It took me a few minutes to realize that was probably asleep. I kissed him once, twice, three more times before pulling away to get more comfortable and drift off to sleep myself.
