I shivered slightly as the water trickled down past my ear. Is it just me or is no one else ticklish while you’re getting your hair washed at a salon?
I kept my eyes shut tight, too afraid to look in the mirror as I got my hair dried. Finally, Leslie, the nice lady working on my hair whispered, “You can open your eyes now, sweetie.”
I slowly opened one eye and then the other, my jaw dropping in awe.
I whispered reverently, “It’s like magic..”
She smiled, “Why, thank you.”
I shook my head slightly, brushing my hair. I didn’t have to look at that horrendous pink or purple anymore. Leslie had fixed my hair. In fact, she’d probably made it better! I watched my chocolate brown hair shine under the flattering salon lights.
I stood up shakily, “You have no idea how much I owe you for this.”
She laughed, “Actually, I do. I’ll hand you your bill in a few minutes.”
“Uh, yeah. We could do that.”
We walked to the cash counter, with me having a one sided conversation since I barely gave her anytime to respond.
After I paid, I pulled her in for a hug, “I really do owe you a LOT for this Leslie.”
She laughed awkwardly, “I have a boyfriend.”
I grinned, “Oh, I have one too! Well, sort of. Men are so complicated.”
Her eyes widened slightly, “O-Oh?”
I nodded and then walked away quickly. Clearly, I had made her feel a lot more uncomfortable. Right. Now that my hair situation was settled, I could go talk to Julian, Hannah and Lola. Time to settle this all.
I dialled Noam’s number, cursing myself for still knowing it by heart.
“Kenny!”
“Noam, get your evil, good for nothing, skanky ass to Cho’s Cafe. NOW.”
“Has it occurred to you that I might be busy right now?”
“Has it occurred to you that Julian will hunt you down if I don’t give him answers as to what happened last night?”
“See you in ten.”
“That’s what I thought.”
I cut the call, feeling like a badass.
Well. That was the easy part. Going through all the crazy things that happened last night was definitely going to prove to be harder.
I sat there, sipping on my Hot Chocolate. From now on, if Noam was going to be around while I was eating or drinking anything, I had to be extra careful.
I heard the door jingle and I looked up expectantly. Noam walked in, followed by a guy who I can only describe as scary. Like honestly, the only word that kept running through my head was scary. Scary, Scary, Scary.
I immediately took my phone out of my pocket and dialled Julian.
Noam shook his head, “Calm down, Ken. This dude is just here to help us figure out what exactly happened last night.”
I glared at him, “You can’t remember much either?”
Noam shook his head, “It’s not my fault.”
I groaned, hitting my head on the table slightly. Sadly, I knew it wasn’t his fault he couldn’t remember much either. Why? Because I did remember some stuff. I just didn’t want to tell anyone until I knew for sure it all happened.
I looked at the scary dude, “Are you the one who did Noam’s tattoo?”
He crossed his arms, nodding. I winced slightly as I noticed his arms covered in creepy gang tattoos. Noam moved uncomfortable in his chair, “My skins all sore in that spot.”
The scary dude smirked, “I almost didn’t think this kid was the same from last night.”
Noam snorted, “He’s secretly mental.”
“I’m sitting right here.”
Both of them turned to look at me and I shrunk in my chair, sipping on my drink quietly. The scary guy nodded at me and then spoke gruffly, “Without all that colour on your head, you’re like a different person.”
I coughed, “More like, without all that alcohol in my system, I’m like a different person.”
Noam laughed, “I think I quite like drunk Kenny. Come on, you have to admit, last night was fun. When was the last time you did something that crazy?”
I shook my head stubbornly, even though I was trying hard to fight the smile that wanted to stretch across my face. “All I want to know, is if…anything happened between us.”
Noam looked at me quietly for a minute. I slurped noisily on my Hot Chocolate, trying to break the awkward silence. Even Scary Guy was leaning forward slightly.
Then finally, Noam sighed, “No.”
I grinned, “Are you serious? No? Oh my gosh, YES. I can breathe normally again.”
Noam smiled slightly, “Yeah, I guess you can.”
Then he stood up, nodding at Scary Guy and then me.
“Wait, where are you going?”
“Leaving. Isn’t that all you really wanted to know, anyway?”
I felt my chest clench up again. I guess the freedom was good while it lasted for those few seconds. Scary Guy stood up as well, probably glad he could leave this quick.
“You’re going to leave without a drink?”
Both of them raised their eyebrows at me.
I quickly corrected myself, “I meant, like coffee or something. Geez, I’d rather not repeat last night.”
Noam’s shoulder’s fell slightly.
I smiled, “Even though, I think that was the most fun I’ve had in a while.”
Noam looked at me, finally making proper eye contact since he had first walked in here and smiled. Then, pulling his chair out again, he sat back down. Scary guy sighed heavily and sat back down as well.
I waved at the waitress, smiled and signalled for 3 more Hot Chocolates. Considering last night’s events, I’m guessing I definitely needed that refill.
Noam cleared his throat, “So, it all started when I came back to your place after midnight.”
“I vaguely remember that. You called me up and asked me where I was.”
“Yeah. I predicted Julian would drop you home and head back to his place since you were slightly tipsy. He doesn’t know how Drunk Kenny operates.”
I grimaced, “Drunk Kenny has been locked up for a long time.”
“I like Drunk Kenny.”
The Scary Guy snorted, “Drunk Kenny was more fun.”
I glared at him, “Who are you anyway?”
“Von.”
“Von?”
“Yes, Von.”
“Von what?”
“Von.”
“So, your name is Von No Last Name?”
“Yes, Von.”
I looked back at Noam who shrugged, “Hey, Von’s a pretty badass name.”
I rolled my eyes, “Back to the story now?”
Noam laughed, “Fine.”
He continued, “So, Drunk Kenny was a little sober by the time I called. Which is what I was hoping for.”
“Yeah, right after I sober up, I want some more.”
“Did somebody say party!?”
I glared at Noam who quickly continued, “Right. So I asked you if you wanted to join me. You were being really weird, talking about being Forever Alone and how Louis Tomlinson broke your heart when you learned he had a girlfriend and-”
“I get it. No one really needs to know that part.”
“No, that actually plays a pretty important part in the story!”
“If you tell me we met Louis Tomlinson and his girlfriend last night and I can’t remember it, I will drown myself in this cup of Hot Chocolate.”
“We didn’t BUT you thought we did.”
“I’m so confused.”
“Then stop interrupting, Kenneth!”
I crossed my arms, “Fine. Go ahead.”
“Well, after we went over to this random house party-”
“WE CRASHED A PARTY?”
Von jumped slightly, glaring at me, “I’m not a random dude.”
I squeaked, “We crashed a scary Russian dude’s party!?”
Noam shrugged, “Everyone was welcome!”
Von nodded, “Von welcomes everyvon!”
I giggled, “Oh, I see what you did there.”
Von looked at me, confused, “Did vut?”
I stuttered, “Uh, nothing.”
Noam widened his eyes from across the table, “Interrupt me one more time and I’ll stop talking.”
I pretended to zip my lips, lock them and throw the key out. Noam chuckled and then continued, “So at the party, we start playing this crazy ass version of a game.”
Von nodded, looking satisfied, “When you party with Von, you party Von Style.”
Noam nodded in agreement, “Von style is the only style now!”
I glared at Noam, waiting for him to continue. What the heck was Von Style?
“So, when you chicken out on a dare or something, you have to bear a permanent mark.”
I laughed, “YOU CHICKEN! YOU DIDN’T DO A DARE! That’s why you got a tattoo!”
Noam glared, “Kenny, I may be a lot of things but I am NOT a chicken. My dare was to get a tattoo.”
My eyes widened, “Holy Shmizzlesticks.”
Noam nodded, smirking, “Yeah. Von said I could get one of his gang’s tattoos.”
Von nodded, “He iz brave man. I like him.”
“Damn right, I am.”
I stared at him in awe, “Whoa, Drunk Noam is even more badass.”
Noam just smirked.
Von snorted, “He also cried like a baby until I told him I’d make sure it wasn’t a permanent one.”
Noam turned red while I started laughing, “NICE, Noam. How long were you going to keep that tiny detail to yourself?”
Noam muttered, “Oh shuddup. At least I did my dare.”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“Well, we got pretty drunk so by the time we got to you, you were too drunk to do anything. So we decided to skip you. You threw a fit about it and demanded a dare. So, this girl who you kept rejecting all night dared you to get your hair dyed in rainbow colours.”
Von shuddered, “Von kicked her out after.”
Noam laughed, “A little too late for that. She got people to find dye and poof, they got you to go with it.”
I touched my hair gingerly, “My poor hair.”
“I liked the purple on you. It was…pretty funky.”
“I’m never going to say this again but for a minute before I ran into that salon, I contemplated keeping that hair. Just to prove I wasn’t that drunk last night.”
Von laughed, “No one leaves Von’s party sober.”
I shook my head, “So how did we end up at your apartment without dying on the way?”
“Simple. Von took us home.”
I looked at Von who shrugged, “Von told you. Von likes this kid.”
“So once we got to your place..”
Noam smiled reassuringly, “Nothing happened. You collapsed on the bed. I undressed and got into bed as well. I can’t sleep in my jeans.”
“I feel like you’re leaving stuff out.”
I noticed Von and Noam both stiffen slightly.
I narrowed my eyes, “Oh my God. Noam. What happened?”
Noam looked at Von, as if asking for help.
Von looked away and then back at me.
I slapped my hands over my face and mumbled into my hands, “I started singing One Direction, didn’t I?”
I peeked at Noam from between my fingers. He just smiled at me, shaking his head, “Which is when you hit on Von and his girlfriend thinking he was Louis Tomlinson.”
“Von was flattered but..”
I blinked rapidly, “YOU LOOK NOTHING LIKE LOUIS TOMLINSON. Good lord! How drunk was I?”
Noam and Von looked at me simultaneously, “Very.”
I sat back in my chair, “I still feel like stuff is missing but…wow. That seemed pretty epic.”
Von stood up, “Von Style is the only way to party. Come again. Meet Von!”
Then he walked out, leaving us staring after him in amusement.
Noam turned back around, grinning, “Was that crazy or what?”
“Crazy is an understatement.”
“Your hair was crazy.”
“Your fake tattoo was crazy.”
We both looked at each other, in silence, waiting for the other to say something.
Noam cleared his throat, “Look, Ken. I need to-”
Right then, my phone rang loudly, shaking us both out of whatever trance we had fallen into.
I looked at the screen and saw Julian’s name flashing.
“I have to take this. Just a minute.”
I picked up, “Julian!”
“I don’t know if you had intended for me to hear that entire conversation but it was nice.”
“Wait, what?”
“You called me. And then left me hanging on.”
“Oh God, I didn’t mean to do that.”
“At least this way, I know I didn’t miss a single embarrassing detail. Also, this Von dude sounds a little…intimidating.”
“Oh, trust me, he is.”
I heard Julian laugh quietly, “As long as you’re fine.”
“Can we meet up later?”
“Yes, we can. This time, we’re making sure you pick the place.”
I smiled to myself, “Yeah. And we’re sniffing each other’s drinks first.”
I stuck my tongue out at Noam who had crossed his eyes at me from across the table when he heard me mentioning drinks.
“Ken, I know Noam ended up looking like an okay guy after this but I still don’t like him. At all. Get out of there now, please.”
“Okay, Jules. Don’t get your panties in a twist.”
“Never call me that again. Or say that.”
I laughed at the fear in his voice, “It’s a cute nickname!”
“Oh Kenny, don’t make me come over there and make you-”
I cut him off, shivering slightly at how quickly he could switch to seductive Julian, “I’ll text you with the details. Bye Jules!”
I heard him growl before I cut the call. I looked at Noam who was now staring out the window, intensely.
“Noam?”
He looked at me, waiting.
“You were saying something before Julian called..”
“Yeah. Um, I need to pay the bill.”
“THAT’s what you wanted to say!?”
Noam nodded, stood up quickly and nodded again, as if he was trying to convince himself.
“Noam, I’ve known you for a really long time now. Do you really think I’d fall for that?”
Noam smiled, yet his smile didn’t really reach his eyes, “Let it go, Ken.”
He walked up to the counter, paid quickly and then opened the door.
Right before he closed it behind him, he looked at me and winked, “Von Style some other time, alright?”
I walked out after a few minutes, confused.
Oh well. At least this was all settled.
Right then, I felt my phone buzz, indicating a text message.
I checked my phone and frowned when I saw an unknown number.
An image? Oh gross, it’d probably be spam or something.
I was about to delete it when I saw the subject.
**I kissed a girl and I liked it? (:**
I frowned, a little curious now. I opened it and waited impatiently for it to open.
I saw a sort of familiar attractive female in a hot lip lock with a boy with shockingly purple hair. Oh no, purple hair with pink streaks. I squinted at the grainy picture and then nearly screamed when I realized who the girl was.
Amy McHarden.
