It’s the happiness of being touched by him, the pleasure of seeing his face, and the bliss of being by his side. This is my mate.~ Harry

5) Prophecy – Harry

“Mom,” I just got back from school with the pack and they all scuttled around the forest to hunt and to find clues about the mission. I entered the room and walked toward a woman with short curly hair holding a baby bottle against the snout of one black furry pup.

“Shhhhh,” she put her forefinger across her lip motioning me to be quiet. I looked at my baby brothers, one of them was sleeping inside a crib snuggled to pillow and the one she was feeding kept closing his eyes like he was trying so hard not to fall asleep.

I heard a soft whimper from the little guy. I smiled at how adorable my pup brothers were. I watched as the little one finally closed his eye letting go of the feeding bottle and snuggling on my mother’s arms.

“They were just like you and Gemma when you were little. They suck the energy out everyone for being so… energetic and hard to please when they play all day. Yet I can’t just get tired of them,” she put the little one from her arms to the crib together with his twin and they immediately snuggled each other.

We then carefully tiptoed outside of the nursery.

“So, aren’t you supposed to be with your pack surveying our territories?” I followed her into the kitchen passing by a dead deer placed on our table.

The way the hind legs are missing means there’s only one person whose hunt that deer was.

“Marcus!” My mom blurted. “And he serious just left it on my table like that. I hate it when I have to clean all the blood after he just feasted on it.”

“Atleast he still brought it here,” I chuckled. “Knowing how he craved for fresh meat and not the burned meat as he referred to what humans serve at eh cafeteria, I’m still amused he left something for us.”

“I’m not going to clean that mess,” mom clamored. Before she sighed in defeat looking at the mess Marcus made and then took the deer on the sink and started skinning and cleaning it.

She hated her kitchen dirtied and I just wish for Marcus’ sake that he doesn’t come in when mom was holding the slaughter knife she’s using on the deer.

“So… why are you still following me here?” She asked. “I surely don’t remember you liking my kitchen very much.”

Yeah, she’s right.

I looked around. It’s a small room at the back of the house, adjacent to the dining hall. A stainless steel stable stands at the center where the deer had been earlier. A sink on the right where mom cleans everything, on another corner was a huge refrigerator where we stock out fresh meat. We also had a stove and an assortment of knives. On all side of the room attached to the ceiling are built in cabinets where mom keeps our other wares. None of them of course made of silver as they burn our skin.

“So are you going to talk or just continue to be amazed with my kitchen,” she asked turning to me for a second before going back to slaughtering the already dead deer.

“Oh, right…” I scratched my head remembering why I had followed her from the nursery located at the third floor of our house to the kitchen at the back.

She continued to remove the skin from the deer, cutting it in bite size chunk. She insisted for us to be mannered in the table when we eat, so she cuts the meat in bite size knowing Marcus would just hold the meat and bite from it like a barbarian if it were in huge cuts.

Marcus insisted that only vampire eat with knives and forks. We are wolves after all, we eat with our paws.

“I was just asking,” I told her before trailing off. Should I really ask her about it?

“What?”

I took a breath, a deep one. I was already there, there’s no shame in asking.

“How did you know Dad’s your mate?” I asked and she stopped what she was doing.

“And why may I ask you’re asking this?” she washed her hands and wipe it on a piece of towel attached to the side of the stove before facing me. I have all her attention now.

“I just want to know,” I simply answered not hinting something. But you know how it is with mothers and their motherly instinct; they just know everything about you.

“You think you found your mate?” She smiled. Yup, that’s motherly instinct for you. I felt the gushing of blood to my face warming my cheeks.

Niall’s face came into my mind.

Shit!

Why was I acting like that just by thinking about Niall?

“Maybe…” I answer vaguely. “That’s why I’m asking.” I just have to make sure if what I was feeling was the mating attraction. I just can’t explain it.

First thing I saw him, I only felt intrigue. But as time goes by, I just can’t forget about him, like I wanted to be by his side all the time. It’s the very reason why I went with father when he was invited to dinner by his business partner, Niall’s father.

We are supplying wood and timber to the Horan’s wood carving and furniture business, so when I heard the Horan’s inviting us for dinner. I immediately got into eager mode. I hated feeling that.

And just as I was going to school this morning, I just had an unstoppable urge to drop by at his house just to get pissed that some other dude was sitting on his bed… But I was just so happy that his parents let me drive him to school.

That’s why I had a smile plastered on my face the whole day.

“You know, right now I wanted to smack you in the head for smiling like an idiot!” I saw my mom raising an eyebrow.

Yeah, maybe I was smiling like an idiot the whole day too, it figures why the pack and even my sister was looking at me curiously. They even kept asking me if I were fine, and I remember answering them “great” with a huge smile plastered on my face.

I scratch my head forcing my lips to close.

“So how do you know?”

“You just know.”

“How?” I asked again. “There’s must be some sign.”

“There’s no explanation about it,” great. It’s very helpful, mother.

“Then how can I be sure?”

“Oh, when you see her, you’ll just know it’s her,” she assured me. “You’ll feel the unstoppable urge to see her every second. And just seeing her will make you smile like an idiot. You’ll feel very possessive, too.”

She’s just enumerated the things I had been feeling.

“Can you feel something like that about a human?” I asked and she stopped moving.

“A human?” She frowned. My heart skipped seeing her reaction. It can’t be good.

“I’ve never heard of a wolf being mated to a human before,” she answered. “Not in our pack, or the one I know of,” she explained and I frowned. “But are you sure she’s a human?”

I sigh. “I don’t know,” I admitted. “I feel just kind of attracted to this human kid at the school. He doesn’t smell anything like a wolf or any shifter I remember.”

“Maybe he has a latent shifter blood,” she explained. “It’s possible for shifters to lose their ability because of evolution and way of leaving. Do you remember the lore of the winged shifters?” She reminded me of the childhood tales we have about human’s being able to become birds. They always tell that to us when we were kids to encourage us to shift every ones in a week.

The winged shifters were mostly eagles, they’re from a clan called Amihan and they were a powerful clan. But they didn’t really need to fly, not anymore when they started to cultivate lands and grow their own food. They stopped hunting and started living like normal humans. Thus, slowly their ability to shift faded until the later generations lost the ability totally.

“So do you think Niall was from that clan?” I asked.

“So it’s that Niall boy,” she smiled. “…the son of your father’s business partner.”

I nodded.

“Don’t think too much about it, him being not a wolf. There’s always a first time for everything, maybe a wolf and a human is possible.”

“But he’s a human boy,” I emphasized. “It’s like… maybe impossible for us to have some sons.” I blushed as I mentioned it to my mother.

It’s possible for two male shifters to mate, it’s always that one of their wolf transformations is female and whether they mate in their human form or wolf form, there’s always the possibility of pregnancy. But in our case, I have a male wolf.

My mother laughed.

“Stop thinking about it,” she chortled. “You’re way too young to be thinking about having your own pups. You’re just a pup yourself.”

“But…”

“If he’s your mate,” she started. “Then there’s always a possibility for you to have children.” She assured me. “The goddess made it so that …”

And I followed her words in chorus about the mating lore “… two hearts become one to make a whole lot of new little beating hearts.”

“The goddess made sure that her creations do not fade under the creations of the sun,” she added.

Mother was right. I shouldn’t be thinking too much and just do what I needed to do for the moment. It’s the mission.

The reason why we returned to Woodbridge is to find the last Druid before the hundred year old lunar eclipse occur, where the moon vanishes and blood spread across the sky.

I still remember the prophecy told by the witch that serves the Supreme Alpha. It’s one reason why we were sent back to Woodbridge. A lot of wolf packs were sent to different places as well, to search for the Druid because of the prophecy.

On the night the goddess slumbers

Her bright light, the shadows covers

A night that comes every hundred years

Comes the freedom of the Fears

A Druid, the last blood shall spill

Against the holy mother’s will

To cast a spell, the lunar bane

To make goddess’ power wane

Beware, the night, to which I speak

The night, death’s number rise its peak

It is the night, the goddess cries

Crimson blood above the skies

The Fears, to rise again, they shall

Where the earth unlocks its wall

Where the goddess caged them all

Where fate caused the Druids to fall

Beware, we shall, the fallen one

Deceitful beauty, for the eyes

She used to be a holy one

From grace she fell, before she dies

She cursed the land, we walk

By words, her mouth had talk

It is her will, to free the Fears

For freedom through their spears

The court of the Supreme Alpha still didn’t know what the complete passage meant. But it was known that the Druid is important for this Fears to be awaken. And when they do, we can almost conclude that bad things will happen.

“We only have two months before the hundred year lunar eclipse, the night the goddess slumbers. I hope everything turns out right,” mom wished going back to her work on the deer.

“I’m just not sure if the Druid is here though,” I said. “What does they look like anyway?”

“No one had ever seen them,” I heard a soft voice from behind me, standing near the door the separates the kitchen from the dining room was my grandmother. “Atleast no one alive.”

“They are people who lived in a closed community. Peaceful people who as the tale told came directly from the blood  of the goddess, they are the one the goddess speaks directly to,” the woman in brown long dress, with long grey hair that that touched her sagging skin narrated. Her physique speaks of year of living, she’s almost a thousand years old after all.

“They’re that powerful?”  I looked at mother and then grandmother. “Then why did they die?”

“Greed,” grandmother answered.

“You mean they searched more power?”

“No, not the Druids. They seek nothing but knowledge, they are scholars and power or money is the least they want,” she said. I was young and I only heard of stories about them.”

She sigh, her back curved and she looked shorter than I had seen in her old pictures. “But it’s a very long story, if you need me to tell you, we have to sit and not disturb your mother who is busy in her work. I am very old to stay standing for more than a minute.”

“Would you want to join your grandmother?” She invited me. And I was curious. I walked towards her to the leaving room on the family couch that’s in front of the television. I was just about to sit when I smell something in the air.

“Is something wrong, my little Harry?” My grandmother asked when I froze from where I stood. I can’t be mistaken about that smell.

“I’m sorry grandmother,” I told her. “But I have to check something out.” She smiled and then shoved me away with her hands.

“Don’t worry, this old woman is just here whenever any grandchildren of her want to hear some stories.” I kissed her on the forehead before walking out of the house into my wolf, shredding whatever clothing I have into pieces.

“Children are so reckless,” I heard my grandmother hushed before I dashed into the forest following that smell that had been caught by the wind into the house. It can’t be him.

I howled to warn everyone about being in the forest. Then I dashed towards where the smell was coming. I passed the lake that was near the house passing through some cabins owned by our pack members. I sniffed the air repeatedly to get his direction. He’s still far from the house but the smell was very strong.

I run, dashed and jumped above fallen logs passing by scared rabbit hiding inside their holes. I dashed around huge tress while paying attention to what I hear, to make sure I hear him coming. And then I stopped behind a tree when I heard voices.

“You two are so reckless,” I heard his voice. “After that hunted house experience, now you’re dragging me to a house in the woods. Why do I always go with you?” He whined.

I just love his voice. I peeked to see him.

“We should go back,” he held the two small girls in their hands dragging them back to where they came from.

“We still haven’t seen the house yet,”

“Haven’t you heard that howl,” Niall raised his voice to the girls. “There are wolves here,” he said. He must have heard me, “and with that kind of howl, I don’t think it’s only one wolf. Wolves don’t live by themselves you know.”

He’s right. No wolves live by themselves, we all live in a pack. A lone wolf usually doesn’t live a long life.

“We can’t go without taking a picture of that hunted house,” one of the girls said pulling away from Niall. “It’s just near here, Nie-nie is such as scardy cat.”

“We should be able to see a lake not far away from here,” the other girl said looking on a wide piece of paper on her hand. I realized it’s some kind of a map.

“We should have brought Zayn with us,” Nial whined and I gritted my teeth hearing the name of that guy. I don’t like him. There’s something about him that I don’t trust, especially since he’s always close to my Niall.

“We should go there,” the girls holding the map pointed to the direction of the house.

I should stop them. Humans shouldn’t be allowed near our pack house, especially because we have pups. I should just scare them away.

“We should go back to town,” Niall insisted, but the girls weren’t listening. They marched towards the house instead of going back to town.

I howl, thinking that could scare them. And the three of them froze, the girls stopped walking.

“Is that what it’s supposed to be?” One of the girls asked and the three of them moved closer together turning around to search for me.

“I told you, we should have gone back to town,” Niall insisted. “Now, it’s a miracle if we got back to town without getting a wolf bite.”

“You’re being so negative, Nie-nie.”

“Yeah, so nega…” Another one agreed but I can smell their fear.

“We should just run to the house, and maybe we could call for help from there,” one of the girls suggested, she’s the one with the map.

That can’t happen.

I walk to block them from the direction where the house was and then slowly walked towards them revealing myself.

“Wo…wo… wo… wooo…,” one of the girls tried to speak seeing me, but she only managed to stutter in her speech. Then all their eyes turned to me.

“Wolf,” the girls shrieked and they run to the opposite direction dashing without turning around. Who wouldn’t? No normal human would stay to be eaten by a wolf that stood bigger than them.

But Niall just stood there watching me intently with his blue eyes. He looked at me like he knew me.

My instinct wanted me to go closer to him, to nuzzle him. But a part of me feared that he would run away like the girls did.

So I stayed still, like he did. We just looked at each other.

Hesitantly, after a moment of our staring contest, I took a step forward watching his every reaction. He didn’t flinch so I step again. After two steps he still didn’t move away. I took some more steps forwards and he still didn’t escape, he didn’t even seem afraid. I took the last step and we were already face to face.

Then he did something that I didn’t expect. He petted my chin like I’m some sort of domesticated dog.

“Harry,” he huffs under his breath.

My heart leapt feeling his hand on my fur and hearing the perfect sound of my name from his lips.

“I know for certain now that feeling. It’s the happiness of being touched by him, the pleasure of seeing his face, and the bliss of being by his side. This is my mate.” Stay tuned for more

I really would like to hear from you guys, what do you think of the plot so far? Do you like it? Am I making a read worthy book here? Come one, say something, anything. ~fcee
