“Hey Ken.” I hear my father’s voice. I turn around from the computer to face him and give him a smile.
“Hi dad.” I say. He takes a seat in the corner of my bed and crosses his arms.
“Listen I’ve got to speak to you.” He says and I nod waiting for him to start. “I got contacted by a police department back in New York.” He says.
“Dad. That – that’s great. That’s awesome!” I say standing up and giving him a hug but the questions start populating in my head.
“But-” he says as we pull away.
“Yeah?” I ask.
“We’re gonna have to move Kendall.” He says. I give a moment to take it all in.
“Are you – are you being serious?” I ask. He takes a step closer to me. “No. We just got here. I got new friends, I can’t just leave that behind, can I?” I ask.
“You’re being dramatic. There will be more people – more opportunity. From what I hear from the people here – this town is a dead end.” He says.
“I’m not being dramatic.” I say and turn to my window looking out. “I don’t want to go, this place feels like home.” I say.
“Kendall you don’t have a choice. I’m not leaving you behind like I did with Joshua..” My dad says referring to my brother.
“Let me stay – I bet Stiles or – or Scott wouldn’t mind me staying at their house-” I say.
“My decision is final. We are leaving in two weeks so you will have time to say your – goodbyes.” He says and I shake my head before storming out of my house.
I can’t believe this is happening. I am finally in a place where I feel like I belong and he wants to move me away from everything – everyone I love.
I start walking in the way to Video 2C to get a depressive movie as this day is ending in a shitty way anyway.
At one point, I just let the tears that were prickling my eyes to run freely down my face. I wipe all of them as quickly as I could though, don’t really fancy anyone seeing my cry.
I finally get to the shop and get in.
What movie should I choose? The fault in our stars? Notebook? Prayers for bobby?
I decide to go with ‘The fault in our stars’ as I start searching for the movie in the romance isle.
“Can somebody help me find The Notebook?” I hear Jackson’s voice. Could this day get any worst? Funnily enough, I find the notebook quickly near me as I pick it up.
“Hi Jackson.” I say as I come out of the isle and he turns to me and chuckles.
“Oh I’m sorry Dayton. Didn’t know you work here.” He says and I roll my eyes.
“I don’t work here jackass. I’m here to get a movie.” I say still searching for the movie. “By the way. I didn’t know you were such a romantic individual.” I say jokingly.
“Lydia made me get The Notebook. I hate it.” He says. Figures. “Is there anyone working here?” He asks.
“I haven’t seen anyone yet.” I say. “Here you go.” I get closer to him and pass ‘The Notebook’ into his hands.
“Ahh – so you do work here!” He throws me a vicious smile as I quickly mumble a ‘shut up’.
He stops dead on his tracks as he turns around.
“Day- Dayton.” Jackson says. I walk beside him to see a body on the floor. I gasp and cover my mouth.
Turns out my day could get worst after all. Much worst.
The lights in the store starts flickering.
“Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god.” I mumble.
We head a growl and I grab Jackson by the arm. We both look at each other before slowly turning around.
I see a pair of red glowing eyes and Jackson pushes me to hide between some rows of shelves. After a moment we hear this falling and it was getting closer. I realise it’s the shelves falling like dominoes.
“Jackson!” I say and push him out of the way before I get caught under one of the displays.
“Dayton.” Jackson mumbles getting closer. Jackson lies perfectly still and I see from the corner of my eye the alpha getting closer to him.
That’s all I can remember before everything goes black.

I wake up in an ambulance with my dad standing next to me.
“Dad?” My dad turns to be with a relief expression painted across his face.
“Ken – oh my god. Thank god. Don’t you ever do that again. Do hear me?” He asks and I nod before he gives me a hug and a kiss on my forehead.
I look at another ambulance and I see Jackson having a heating argument with Sheriff Stilinski and Lydia looking shocked.
“Is that a dead body?” I hear the familiar voice and my head shoots in the direction it came from. I see Stiles. I sigh in relief as his eyes lands on me.
“Dayton?” He asks and runs to me. “Dayton? Are you okay?” He asks.
I nod.
“I saw the Alpha. Right in front of me.” I say and he quickly hugs me.

I decided not to go to school today. And by decided, I mean my dad decided.
I’m here watching ‘The fault in our stars’ from my computer since yesterday my plans changed due to the alpha paying a surprise to the video store.
I had about two nightmares last night and it all involved the pair of red eyes.
“You saw something, didn’t you?” I look at the window and see Derek Hale standing there, his tall posture and crossed arms.
“Oh my – what do you want?” I ask nervously. Is he gonna kill me.
“What did you see?” He asks and I close my eyes.
“I can’t really remember much.” I say.
“Tell me what you know.” He says with a serious face. Is he ever happy? Or in a good mood?
“I saw – I saw a pair of red eyes – it was big. Bigger then a mountain lion for sure.” I say and he nods. “I saw it get closer to Jackson and then I blacked out.” I finish.
I close my eyes again and when I look up he’s not there. Am I hallucinating? Am I losing the plot?
I turn to my side and decide to go for a nap. Hopefully a good one.

Knock knock
I wake up. Get up and walk to the door. I open the door to see Mr. Buzzcut himself.
I smile and quickly let him in.
“You alright?” He asks and I nod. I go back to my bed and he closes the door behind him and comes to sit next to me on the bed.
“Could be better. How was school?” I ask.
“Could’ve been better too. Scott wasn’t in school. Lydia went M.I.A.” He says and I chuckle.
“I went to her after school and I found this.” He says before showing me her phone with a video of something. The Alpha.
“Oh my god what are you gonna do with that?” I ask forgetting about the fact that Stiles basically stole Lydia’s phone.
“I have to show Scott and then maybe hand this back to Lydia. Or delete the video.” He says running ideas through his head. “I don’t know.”
“Not looking good?” I ask and he nods.
“Yesterday was a blur.” I say. “I don’t want to remember it.” I say and he turns to me.
“Because of the Video Store?” He asks.
“Yeah. Not only. My dad told me that we are going to move to New York in two weeks.” I say looking down, feeling a ting of sadness in my chest.
“What? What the hell?” He says and I nod. “Can’t you stay?” He asks and I shake my head.
“I already suggested it.” I say and he nods. He puts his hand on mine as I quickly allow myself to make eye contact with him.
“Don’t worry. It’s only about hours away. At least you’re not in a different country.” He says making me chuckle. “We’ll always keep in contact.”
“Thanks Stiles.” I say and he nods.
We look at each other before hug. We just stay there. No words. No movement. We we’re just taking each other’s presence. Something that I feel like I very much needed.

I am now in school with my dad because today is parent’s conference and I really hope the teachers have good things to say about me. I mean I’m an angel, let’s be honest. Only thing not making me an angel are the recent events. Plus I wanted to get my mind off things.
“Hi Mr Barnett. Pleasure to meet you.” Mr Harris says as he shakes my dad’s hand and gives me a small nod before we all sit down.
“Dayton Kendall Barnett, bright student. Since the first day he came here he was a student who have his all in every test and lesson. Sadly I think his companies have not been the best.” He says and I roll my eyes and bite my tongue, not wanting to say anything that may put me into trouble. One does not tell me who I should and shouldn’t be friends with.
“He has also been through a lot. You know, yesterday with the video store. But I think he is a very smart individual and he is going to have a very bright future. We currently have high expectations of Dayton in my class which is very good and you should be proud..” He says and I smile at my dad and in that moment all I really needed was a halo to appear on top of my head.
Will this be enough to let me stay?
“Thank you Mr Harris.” My dad says standing up and giving him a handshake as I smile at Mr Harris for his kind words. His being nice for once.
We get out of the school and my dad decides to go get the car as I wait for him here.
“Hi Miss McCall.” I say and Melissa turns to me with a warming smile.
“Hi Dayton. You haven’t heard from Scott have you?” She asks and I shake my head.
We see a car arrive and Scott and Allison are inside it. I see Allison’s parents fuming obviously not happy that their daughter didn’t show up.
“Where exactly have you been?” Melissa asks as Scott gets out of his car along with Allison which is already being bombarded with questions from her parents.
“Nowhere, mom.” He says. This is awkward.
“Nowhere meaning not in school.” His mom says crossing her arms.
“Kinda.” Scott says scratching the back of his neck. Stiles is rubbing off on him.
“It’s not his fault. It’s my birthday, and we were-” Allison starts to explain but is interrupted by a scream. Everybody starts to walk around confused as to what that was.
“What was that?” I ask Scott.
“I don’t know. I hope it’s not what I am thinking.” Scott says and I nod.
“Allison get in the car.” Mr Argent says but Allison ignores it.
Scott starts running out of nowhere in a direction and saves Allison from getting run over. Phew.
I start walking trying to desperately find my dad.
I see a car starting to pull out of a parking spot and Sheriff Stilinski walking behind it not noticing the car. I run towards him and I am able to push him out of the way but I am pushed back instead.
“Dayton!” Sheriff exclaims and comes to me. “What are you doing? Are you okay?” Sheriff asks and helps me to my feet. My dad shows up and comes next to me asking me the same questions.
We hear two shots being fired. Everyone starts walking in it’s direction like zombies. Myself included.
I see the dead body of a mountain lion.
So it was a mountain lion?
Episode 5 is done! What did you guys think? The bonds are going to develop even more in the next chapters so stay tuned.
