Chapter 7.
*****
*Corey*
I stood outside of Marcus’s house and sighed as I pulled out my phone. If I didn’t tell Jayden I would drown in guilt, but if I did he would think it was more than it was because that’s how he was. I didn’t want him thinking anything of it, but it was Jayden. He over-thought everything. I scrolled down to his name. I wanted to hear his voice so badly but knew that if he heard me he would know I did something wrong and then I would have to tell him. I decided to text him instead. It was fine. I would see him in a day… tell him and maybe I could forget the kiss happened.
I scowled at myself softly. Yeah, right. He wouldn’t let us forget it.
“Corey?” I froze as Carrie’s voice sounded behind me and immediately considered leaving. “Wait. Look, I’m sorry, I’m so sor –” she was saying.
“No, no. Stop, Carrie.” I turned to her lifting my hands, “We were both drunk, it wasn’t just you. I… yeah… You don’t have to apologise.” I said to her reassuringly, though still feeling awkward about speaking to her. “Please don’t tell anyone,” I added giving her a desperate smile.
“Of course not. You have my word, Button-Head.” She replied holding out her arms. I chuckled and hugged her. It did not feel as weird as I thought it would, it was like hugging any other friend. “Well, it’s late… so I’m going to head back to the hotel.” She said.
“Alone?” I asked raising my eyebrows. It was almost nine at night.
She rolled her eyes. “I’m a werewolf too, you know. I can take care of myself.” She replied giving me a teasing smile.
I chuckled before I yawned and she laughed.
“Maybe you should join me.” She said.
“I probably should.” I nodded chuckling.
I headed inside to say goodbye to Bianca and Marcus and tell the others I would be at the hotel if they needed me before meeting Carrie outside again.
We walked back to the hotel mostly making small talk about everything we saw around us. The little town was built quite interestingly, it wasn’t modern at all and all the new buildings were created to mimic the older ones, I loved that and knew Jayden would too. He loved vintage things and loved all things art. I made a mental note to visit with Jayden and the kids some time, Marcus and Bianca had mentioned that they would love to see the twins. Though, I doubted Eli would be very excited to come seeing the lack of outrageously dangerous (or as our son would say, ‘fun’) activities in the town…
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” I said as we reached my room, “Or should I walk you first?” I added looking at her as I unlocked my room, she was right next door. She laughed.
“You’re such a gentleman, Corey.” She said sarcastically. I chuckled. “Why don’t we hang out while we wait for everyone else to come back?” she asked.
“I’m really tired, Carrie,” I said truthfully. I hadn’t had any sleep after what happened and had spent all day awake and driving. Also, I didn’t feel too comfortable being close to her after what happened.
“Come on, just a few drinks.” She said.
“Ah, drinks. You certainly became the alcoholic.” I pointed at her.
“From your stories, you’re not much better.” I laughed at her reply.
“True. Fine.” I opened my door and looked down at her as she walked into my room pulling off her coat.
She was wearing a red dress that reached just above her knees and a pair of black heels. I had told her Marcus and Bianca were just our friends so it didn’t matter what we looked like but she seemed like the type to dress to impress regardless of the situation. I had to say, she looked really good. I followed her into my room and shut the door behind me before pulling off my jacket. My choice in clothing didn’t come close to Carrie’s, I mean, it was Marcus. I sat on his kitchen counters, ate all his food and looked through his personal belongings for entertainment, we were pretty comfortable with each other. In fact, he would probably argue that we were too comfortable with each other, so there was really no need for anything close to a suit around him.
“What would you like to drink?” She asked as she picked up the phone while I tossed my jacket into my bag.
“Doesn’t really matter,” I shrugged, “I’ll probably be asleep by the time it gets here anyway.”
“No, you won’t.” She gave me a smile.
I chuckled walking into the bathroom where I splashed some cold water into my face in an attempt to keep myself awake, it didn’t help. Oh well. I had nothing planned. Besides, the sooner I fell asleep, the sooner we would be home and I would see my family. I walked out into the room but stopped as I saw Carrie lying across my bed drinking what I assumed was some sort of champagne.
“You’re paying for that,” I said pointedly. She rolled her eyes and motioned to the bucket of ice across the room. That was fast.
“Beer?”
“Why not?” I grabbed one. “You’re on my bed.” I pointed out.
“We can share.” She smiled. I scoffed in amusement and sat on the couch across the room as I turned the TV on. “No, let’s talk some more.” She got up to grab the remote from my hand and turned the TV off again.
“Talk? Well, I think I’ve done enough of that. You know all there is that I could tell you… Your turn, Carrie.” I said.
She reluctantly agreed and we began talking about her family. What they did after they left our pack, where they went. Why she went rogue. Apparently, she hated the pack her father joined, as a seven-year-old she had no choice but to leave Galaxy with him, her mother and sister. She said she never got along with anyone in the pack and eventually just left thinking she would find another pack to join, but with little to no money to travel, she soon found herself stuck in a new place and that’s how she ended up working at the hotel and living in the tiny cottage on stolen land.
We spent hours just talking and joking, not really keeping track of how much we were drinking. I was almost too tired to even see the numbers as I looked at the clock on my phone, add the slight blur because I wasn’t very sober and it took me a while of staring to realise that it was almost one in the morning. I hadn’t heard the others pass by my room yet and assumed that they must still have been at Marcus’s house.
I shut my eyes leaning my head back and letting out a sigh. I knew I would regret drinking so much in the morning. That was fine though, it was the last time in probably forever. “Hey, Carrie, I’m going to need my bed, you should probably get out of it,” I muttered slurring lightly.
I heard shuffling and assumed that she was leaving but my eyes opened when I heard a zip instead of the door. I blinked a little trying to adjust my eyes before I was able to not-so-clearly make out Carrie’s body in front of me. I tilted my head seeing black. Wait, hadn’t she been wearing red? A few more blinks and I realised she was standing in front of me in nothing but her lacy black lingerie, her dress at her heel-clad feet. I almost chuckled at the thought of Jayden complaining about leaving things laying around on the floor. He wasn’t messy.
“Why is your dress on the floor?” I mumbled. She giggled in response.
“You’re so cute, Corey,” was her answer as she walked up to me. I gaped as she climbed onto my lap.
“What-what are you doing?” I whispered trying to clear my vision and mind as I blinked and swallowed nervously. She didn’t reply, instead grabbing hold of my wrists when I attempted to push her off my lap, “Ca-Carrie –” I let out a sigh as her lips met my collar, my eyes closing at the sensation that made my heart pick up.
I felt my breathing quicken as her hands ran under my shirt while she sucked my neck softly before tracing light kisses along my neck and onto my jaw. I was dazed and leaning into the feeling of the warm hands tracing up and down my chest despite feeling like something was wrong before my shirt was pulled over my head. I just couldn’t focus on trying to figure out what exactly it was.
As I attempted to raise my hands, they were once again caught before a playful kiss met my lips and I chuckled at the little game of not letting me have a turn at touching. Feeling a bite on my lip, I messed around by resisting for a few seconds before finally giving in to the kiss. The lips felt weird against mine, their tongue felt and tasted odd in my mouth, but I barely had a second to think about it before a body grinding against my own made me groan. I needed to feel more of them.
“Jay…” I moaned slightly attempting to pull my wrists from his hands so I could touch him as well but he held on rather tightly.
“No, Babe.” It wasn’t him and that instantly made my eyes shoot open as the hands disappeared from my wrist only to start working on my drawstring.
“Carrie?” I mumbled confused, “Carrie, sto-stop.” I groaned as her hand brushed against my member, “I- I can’t… I have kids… I’m mated.” I said breathlessly, desperately trying to make myself feel less pleasure at having her touch me the way she was. I lifted my hands to grab hold of her upper arms in an attempt to try to push her away from me but she leaned into me.
“You don’t love him, though, Corey.” She whispered into my ear, “You don’t or you would have married him… you’ve waited for me, you know you have.” She kissed my jaw, “We can get married… We can be a family… you don’t love hi –” I shoved her off me with more force than I meant to, sending her tumbling onto the carpet. I just wanted to push her aside but I was still pretty drunk and didn’t gauge my strength. My first instinct was to apologise, but that was quickly overshadowed by alarm as I got up.
I glared at her, stumbling on my feet slightly as I walked to the other side of the room, never taking my eyes off her to make sure she stayed where she was. “Get-get out.” I spat.
“What? Why? We were –” She was saying, her eyes wide with innocent shock.
“I said get out.” I cut her off.
Her shock turned to anger. “Why?! That wasn’t just me! You know as well as I do that you wanted us to go further! Look at you! You know you’re not happy with him! He’s just –” She said.
“Don’t you dare!” I cut her off, “Just get out and stay the fuck away from me.” I snapped at her.
I was pissed at her, but I was livid at myself. What the fuck was wrong with me?!
She glared at me as she pulled her coat on; not bothering to first put her dress back on. She grabbed the dress from the floor and walked to the door before she looked back at me, her eyes yellow almost as if she was about to shift. “You’ll come begging for me when you realise I’m right. You’re in love with me, not him.”
“In love with you?” Is she insane?! It had been what, two days?
“You’ll see, you’ll regret this.” She said before she walked out slamming the door behind her.
I stood in the silent room for a few seconds, breathing heavily before looking down at myself only to realise that my hands had begun trembling. The sudden terror I was feeling seemed to have calmed my erection but when my phone suddenly went off, I stumbled to grab it from where it had been charging which resulted in the lamp beside the bed falling and smashing onto the floor sending pieces of glass everywhere. Looking at the screen caused me to toss the phone onto my bed before I covered my mouth trying to calm down. I needed to calm down, needed to stop shaking. Jay…
The phone was still ringing, I wanted to answer it; he could calm me down. I would have to tell him. No, no. I could not. He would hate me. He would leave me.
‘And you’ll deserve it.’
I let out a sob, more out of panic than anything else. Crying? How could I be crying? I tried to control it but trying to stop panicking only made my throat close up more as breathing basically became impossible. No, I couldn’t lose him. I couldn’t lose them. I wouldn’t, I didn’t have to tell him, he didn’t have to get hurt and he didn’t have to hate me. It would be okay. He didn’t have to know. If I could get her to leave, or if I could get the others to overturn their decisions on agreeing with me about letting her back into the pack without any suspicion, I would be the only one who knew what just happened and Jayden will never find out.
