A/N: this is it! The final chapter. Thank you to everyone who has read this, I’ve really enjoyed writing this story. Maybe I’ll add some bonus chapters later on, but for now, here is the end:)
Sammy
“Flynn, stop!” Loudly laughing, Sammy tried to wiggle his way away from his boyfriend, who was laughing as well. When his body was suddenly being pinned on the ground he smiled up at those green eyes before wrapping his arms around Flynn’s neck and pulling him down to his level. Resting his lips onto the ones he loved, he felt his heart start beating a million miles a minute.
Sammy absolutely loved the man who was currently on top of him, even though at times it felt like something was still missing. That thought made him nervous at times, and quite confused. Why is he still not sure of what he wants in his life, or how he feels?
After attending MIT for his graduate school, becoming closer with Sasha and his father, Sammy couldn’t understand why he still wasn’t satisfied. He felt like a horrible person at times, because he simply could not figure out what he wanted anymore.
An alarm was suddenly beeping from beside his head, making his groan. Turning towards Flynn, Sammy watched as he hit the alarm on the alarm clock while saying, “I wish I could finish kissing your sweet lips.”
“I wish so too,” Sammy said with a frown. He watched as Flynn got up off the bed and started to put his scrubs on. It was definitely hard dating someone who was always at the hospital, yet he didn’t want to say anything for the fear of being too clingy.
“I’ll call you when I go on break okay?” Flynn whispered while leaning down to kiss Sammy.
“Okay,” Sammy said while watching him leave the room, making him frown. Snuggling back up into his blanket, he softly yawned before letting his eyes close once again.
When he slipped back into a deep sleep, he didn’t wake back up until his phone was ringing. Sleepily opening his eyes he reached for the phone, grumbling while he answered it. “Hello?”
“Hey, did I wake you?” Flynn’s voice asked while lots of voices were heard in the background.
“Mmm yeah but that’s okay.”
“Maybe I have something that will make you happy. My boss is having a party tonight, do you want to go?”
Rubbing his eyes, Sammy sleepily yawned before saying, “Sure.”
“Awesome. I’ll pick you up around 6 okay?”
“Okay,” Sammy whispered while his eyes slowly closed once again, before he drifted back off to a dreamless sleep.
*
Looking at the beautiful house in front of him, Sammy took in all the people around him. He wasn’t one for parties, but he didn’t want to make Flynn mad if he said no. Getting out of the car, he followed Flynn into the house to see it was basically a mansion. Good lord, he thought while staring all around the house, not believing it was real.
“Hey Flynn!” Turning around, Sammy watched as Flynn was suddenly walking away, leaving him awkwardly standing by himself.
As he started to fade into the background, he turned around before slowly starting to walk around the large house. Walking towards the kitchen he smiled at everyone walking by him, trying to seem social. He was simply not in the mood to be around all these people, especially people he didn’t even know.
After grabbing one of the water bottles from the kitchen, Sammy started walking outside, instantly feeling happy when he was in the fresh air. Slowly starting to yawn once again, he suddenly woke up when he felt cold rain starting to hit his skin. Looking around the large yard he quickly ran to a local gazebo, heavily sighing when he was safely under the roof.
Wiping his glasses off on his shirt, he then saw a dark outline of what looked like another person. When he put his glasses back on he looked up to see a man heavily breathing, completely covered in rain. As he continued to stare at the man, Sammy couldn’t help but feel like he knew him. The man had still yet to see him, which gave him extra time to stare at him.
The man had brown hair, paired with brown eyes. There was also something silver around his neck, which looked like a necklace, which for some reason looked familiar. When the man finally turned towards him, he watched as the man’s eyes grew very wide as he seemed to stop breathing all together.
“It’s really coming down out there huh?” Sammy asked while wrapping his arms around his body as he started to shiver. “I didn’t even know it was supposed to rain tod-” His voice was then cut off when the man was suddenly wrapping his arms around his body.
“Uh, can I help you?” Sammy said while his body was locking up as he tried to get away. Stranger danger! He thought while backing up against the wall behind him.
He heavily breathed while watching the man continue to stare at him, like he was a prized painting or something. “Sammy, I thought I would never see you again.”
“I’m sorry, do we know each other?” Sammy asked while the man came closer to him.
“It’s me, Evan.”
Is he going to kill me? Sammy thought while looking into those dark eyes. Turning back to the rain he was wondering how fast he could run to the house before this man would pounce on him. “Sammy,” this Evan man said while coming even closer to him before gently placing his hand onto his cheek. “Close your eyes.”
“Are you kidding me? That’s like the stupidest thing someone could do, especially in a scary movie atmosphere.”
“Just trust me.”
As he continued to look at the man like he was crazy, he couldn’t help but feel drawn to those brown eyes. Taking a deep breath he closed his eyes before feeling Evan place both of his hands onto his cheeks. “Listen to the sound of my voice, think back. Think back to us playing video games, laughing and you always getting mad at me. You were coming back from my house when you got into your wreck. Please remember, remember me.”
Trying to think as far back as he could, Sammy was about to tell this man he was crazy when he suddenly felt something being placed onto his neck. Opening his eyes he looked down to see a very familiar looking necklace, one that he knew. He was suddenly being thrown back into a sea of memories, ones that made him gasp.
He remembered staring at Evan in class, remembered tutoring him. He also remembered kissing him, and loving him. When his eyes opened back up he looked at Evan for a split second before he was intensely crying.
Strong arms were then wrapping around him, making him bury his face into that strong chest. “Shh,” Evan whispered while slowly running his hands up and down his back.
“W-what are you doing here?”
“I became a receptionist at a hospital.”
Looking up into those eyes Sammy whispered, “You work with Flynn?”
Evan’s dark eyes were looking confused before asking, “Flynn… Flynn Walters? Yes, I know him. How do you know him?”
“He’s my boyfriend,” Sammy whispered while watching Evan’s face fall. “How… how could I forget you?” With that he started crying once again as Evan’s arms were instantly wrapping back around his body.
This is what I’ve been missing, he thought while he hugged Evan’s body closer to his own. He instantly pulled away when he heard a throat clearing from behind them. Turning around he saw Flynn, who looked very confused. “Sammy? What’s going on?”
“I… I know what it looks like, and I’m not really sorry. This man has been absent from my life for so long, it feels right having him back in it. I know you’re not going to understand me and that’s okay, because I hardly understand myself.”
“What are you trying to say?” Flynn asked while looking at him with a strange look.
“I just… I need some space.”
With that he ran back into the rain, running away from everything. Everything was just too much; so many emotions were running through his head as well as his heart.
As he continued to run through the rain, he ended up at Flynn’s car before realizing it was Flynn’s car. Resting his head against the wet window he closed his eyes while trying to hold himself together. Suddenly hearing footsteps behind him, Sammy turned around to see Evan running towards him.
He watched with wide eyes as Evan came up to him, gently putting his arms around him. “You are too special to me; I’m not letting you go again.” With that he leaned down to ever so gently place his lips on top of Sammy’s.
Putting his arms around Evan’s neck, Sammy continued to kiss those sweet lips, so many more memories flowing through his mind. When he slowly pulled back he rested his forehead against Evan’s, not being able to keep the smile off of his face.
“I missed you, god I missed you so much,” Evan said. “I’m so sorry for everything I’ve ever done to you, I wish I can go back and change everything I ever did wrong to you, because you didn’t deserve that. You didn’t deserve all the shit I’ve ever done to you.”
“The fact that you’re here now, is all that matters. Ever since I woke up from my accident I felt like something was missing from my life, and I know that something was you. It was always you, the one I was always thinking about.”
Sammy smiled while watching Evan lean down to ever so gently kiss his forehead. “I’ve been without you for too long, come on let’s go inside.”
Feeling Evan grab his hand, Sammy happily walked back inside before hearing, “Daddy!”
Turning around Sammy saw two identical girls running towards Evan, both with huge smiles on their faces. The girls had curly black hair, which was bouncing as they ran, with brown eyes exactly like Evan’s.
Sammy watched as Evan opened his arms before engulfing the two small girls into his arms, a smile on his face. There was something special about seeing Evan with his daughters, especially when he saw Evan turn towards him before saying,
“Girls, this is Sammy.”
The tiny girls turned towards him with a smile before saying, “Hi.”
“Sammy is a very special friend; he’s going to be here with us for a while.”
Sammy smiled while watching the girls shyly wave at him, before looking into Evan’s eyes. So many more emotions were filling his mind again, memories he couldn’t believe he ever forgot. How could he forget someone who had always made him feel so special?
Hearing footsteps he looked up to see Flynn leaning against the doorway. Looking back at Evan, Sammy watched him give him a small smile before a small nod. Taking a deep breath, Sammy slowly started walking over to Flynn before shakily saying, “Can we talk?”
Flynn nodded before walking towards the busy house, walking past everyone who was having a great time. After walking into an unoccupied room, he watched Flynn lean against the window before saying, “So this Evan, he’s important to you?”
“Yes,” Sammy said while wrapping his arms around himself. “It all started in high school…” From there he went on to tell Flynn everything that happened with Evan, and why he was such an important person.
When he was done telling his story he didn’t realize he was crying until Flynn came over to him and gently wiped his tears away. Looking up into those green eyes he heard, “He sounds like a pretty special person.”
“He is.”
Nodding, he watched as Flynn wrapped his arms around his body before gently rubbing his arms up and down his back. “If someone is that special to you, you can’t let them go a second time. You need to go to him Sammy, just by the way he looks at you I can tell he’s head over heels in love with you.”
Looking back up at him, Sammy smiled while nodding. “And I can tell you’re in love with him.”
“I’m sorry.”
“No, don’t apologize. I could never be mad at you, how could I? This is a very unique situation, a situation you can’t pass up. Make sure he treats you right okay?” Flynn asked with a smile before gently kissing Sammy on the forehead.
“I will.”
“Take care,” Flynn said before slowly walking out of the room.
Taking a shaky breath, Sammy couldn’t stop the tears as they started to flow from his eyes. He looked up when he heard, “You shouldn’t cry.”
He saw Evan’s daughters staring up at him, both smiling. “You’re too pretty to cry.”
Laughing, Sammy kneeled down in front of them as he wiped his face. “You know, I never got your names.”
“I’m Ryleigh.”
“And I’m Izzy.”
“It’s very nice to meet both of you.”
When he glanced up he felt his heart beat faster when he saw Evan leaning against the doorway. He watched as Evan walked over to him before holding his hand out to him while saying, “Let’s go home.”
Those three words were the sweetest words he has ever heard. Grabbing Evan’s hand he walked out of the house with the twins in front of him, finally feeling complete.
Evan
“Girls lets go! Your bus is going to be here any minute.” Grabbing a few apples, Evan threw them into two lunch boxes before walking towards the stairs. Glancing at his watch, he sighed while running his hand through his hair. “Izzy, Ryleigh!”
Leaning against the railing, he watched as Izzy started running down the stairs before grabbing her lunch from Evan’s hand. “Where’s your sister?”
“Sammy was helping her with her hair. Bye Dad.” Leaning down to place a kiss on her cheek he smiled before saying,
“Bye sweetie, I love you. Have a great day.”
“Love you too!”
As Izzy ran out of the house, Evan nervously glanced back at his watch before yelling, “Sammy! Come on, this isn’t a beauty parlor.”
“Don’t get your panties in a bunch,” he heard Sammy sassily say while walking down the steps, Ryleigh next to him.
He wasn’t able to keep the smile off of his face while he watched them come down the steps, loving both of them. “Here’s your lunch honey, I love you,” he said while leaning down to give her a kiss while honking was suddenly heard from outside.”
“I love you too!” Ryleigh said while running out of the house.
When the bus left and the twins were successfully on, Evan sighed while turning around to look at Sammy. “What?” Sammy innocently asked with a smirk.
“You know what,” Evan said while moving towards him, laughing when he started running away. “You’re going to get it now!”
Running around the house he shared with his better half, he smiled when he caught Sammy around the waist, his laugh filling the whole house. When he turned Sammy’s small body around in his arms he smiled before carrying him over to the couch. Gently laying him down, he leaned down on top of him. Gently resting his fingers in Sammy’s soft hair he leaned down to ever so softly kiss those lips.
He felt Sammy wrap his arms around his neck before deepening the kiss. Pulling back ever so slightly he smiled down at the love of his life, not believing they had been together three years now. Everything had seemed to fall into place for them, ever since they met at that party.
Since the party, Sammy had moved in with him, Evan not wanting them to be without each other. Sammy had helped raise his twins, who also loved him. Evan still had his receptionist job at the hospital, while Sammy was teaching at MIT.
Sasha had also been very involved in their lives, being a very loving uncle to the twins. He went on to marry a very sweet girl named Fiona, who really seemed to turn Sasha into a better person. They went on to have two boys of their own. Evan loved gathering together with family, it made him the happiest he’s ever been. Speaking of family, Lea and Teddy eventually went on to marry each other, which everyone knew would happen sooner or later.
Now here he was, smiling down at the most beautiful person he’s ever known, both inside and out. “Why are you looking at me like that?” Sammy asked with a smile.
“Because I love you.”
He smiled when he saw Sammy’s face turn bright red, something that still made him smile. “And I love you.”
“So what do you say, what would you like to do on our day off?”
“You know what’d I really love to do?”
“What?”
“I’d love to just stay in bed with you and watch some movies.”
“Let me guess, Disney movies?”
“Yes!”
With a smile, Evan stood up before picking Sammy’s small body up into his arms. He then walked up the stairs before getting into bed as he turned on his TV. The day was filled with laughter, bad singing and a lot of love.
**
“Daddy is Sammy going to be home soon?” Izzy asked while staring out the large living room window.
“He should be leaving work now; we’re all clear on what we’re going to do right?” Evan asked while checking his watch, realizing his hands were shaking like crazy.
He watched his daughters both look out the large window while saying, “Yes.”
“Good,” Evan said while his phone was suddenly ringing. Seeing it was Sammy’s number he took a shaky breath before answering it with a confident, “Hey babe.”
He heard a disgruntled sigh before, “I hate everything and everyone.”
“What happened?”
“Ugh, all these kids in all my classes. There’s a lot of amazing kids, but then there’s the douchey kids. God those little migraines are so annoying.”
“Want me to help fail them?”
A soft laugh was suddenly filling his ear. “I love you.”
“And I love you. Now come on home, I’ll make you some cookies and draw you a bath.”
“Man that sounds like heaven. I’ll be home in twenty minutes.”
“I’ll see you then love, drive safe.”
After he hung up he turned around to walk towards the girls. “Okay, Sammy is going to be home in about twenty minutes. Let’s make sure everything is together.”
They nodded before running towards the kitchen to continue to set everything up. When everything was ready, Evan glanced out to see Sammy’s car pulling into the driveway. “Girls he’s here, let’s get into place!”
Hiding out in the kitchen, Evan heard the front door open before hearing a small gasp. He could imagine the way Sammy was looking at the candles around the house, as well as rose petals on the floor. “Welcome home,” Izzy and Ryleigh said at the same time.
“Wh-what’s going on?”
“Please follow us,” Izzy said.
“And enjoy the music,” Ryleigh said while hearing Michael Buble’s All I Want for Christmas Is You, slowly start to drift through the house.
When he saw the twins lead Sammy into the kitchen, he smiled when he saw Sammy gasp while looking around the room. Walking over to him Evan extended his hand while asking, “Would you care for a dance?”
“O-of course.”
As they started slowly dancing around the kitchen, Evan closed his eyes while thinking back to them dancing in his house so many years ago. “You know I love you right?” He asked while looking down into those teary eyes.
“Yes.”
“And I know you know the twins love you.”
“We do!” Turning to his right, Evan laughed when he saw Izzy and Ryleigh standing in front of the window, snow falling behind them.
When he turned back towards Sammy, he saw tears now making their way down those cheeks. Grabbing his smaller hand, Evan walked Sammy into the center of the room. With shaky hands he slowly got down on one knee as the twins stood on either side of him.
Pulling a small box out of his pocket, he opened it to reveal a shiny ring. Sammy gasped while putting his hands over his mouth. “Samuel Pearl, a name I first heard in high school. I got to know this quiet man, who eventually stole my heart. He made me into a better person, into a person I’m actually proud of. I fell so hard you Sammy, it completely changed my life. You changed my life for the better; I don’t know what I would do without you. So here I am, asking if you’ll not only take me, but my daughters for the rest of your life. Sammy, will you marry me?”
He watched as Sammy fell to his knees in front of him, deeply crying. “Of course I will,” he said, making Evan slowly slide the ring onto his finger.
Leaning into him, Evan gave Sammy a sweet kiss before wrapping his arms around him. He smiled when the twins wrapped their arms around them, making him realize they were going to be a family forever.
“It’s always been you,” Evan whispered into Sammy’s ear while hugging him tighter. “And always will be.”
