CHAPTER 14:

“This is a waste of time.” I groaned, watching as the fairies huddled around the small merchild.

“They think they can locate them through Iris.” Cyan defended, watching on in fascination as the fairy elders and Incendio pressed their foreheads to various parts of Iris’s body. Incendio had his forehead pressed against Iris’s. “The witch, Allister, he tore through the spirit connection that Iris and Incendio share. He did it to scare them off because that’s dark, evil magic that most people shy away from, but he didn’t think it through. When he forced himself into the channel, he left bits of his own line behind. So, all they have to do is use those bits to form a normal spirit connection and use it to find him without him realizing it.”

“And what if he does realize it?” I asked, watching as Cyan’s face fell. “Exactly, it’s too much of a gamble. Let the warriors do their jobs. We’re searching the forest, tracking their scent and we’re close Cyan. I’m sure-“

The lights shut off, the bulbs shattering and all the candles blowing out. “What’s happening?” Michellie, who was cradling Iris, asked. “Did he sense the connection?”

“Impossible.” One of the fairies insisted. “The connection has not been made.”

Incendio pulled away from Iris, his eyes blinking rapidly as he tried to adjust to the darkness. “I see something…” Incendio mumbled.

“A man, small with long black hair.” A fairy added.

“His eyes, red as blood, and his fangs-“

Cyan sighed, the confusion leaving his body. “For fucks sake, Obsidian!”

Quiet laughter filled the hall as one by one, the candles came back to life. I almost jumped when I looked to my left and saw a silky head of black hair beside me. “Kricky!” Obsidian giggled, launching himself into my arms.

“Obsidian.” I chuckled, but stopped abruptly when I saw Cyan narrow his eyes at me. “You’re early.”

“Well, when Cyan told me my security would arrive tomorrow, I knew I had to show up today to prepare.” Obsidian pulled away from me, his coal colored skin seeming to shine like the gem he was named after. “How nice to see you again, King Cyan.”

“What a surprise that you would make such an entrance,” Cyan said icily, “the day before you’ve been invited.”

“I asked Eli. He said it was fine.” Obsidian countered, narrowing his eyes. “Did Eli not tell you?”

“No, apparently ‘Eli’ didn’t.” Cyan’s fake smile was so sickly sweet I thought it would give me a cavity. “However, that’s no matter. Kric can show you to the room you’ll be staying.”

“Actually,” Obsidian countered, “Eli and I spoke and he’s allowing me to have my own wing.”

“Your own wing?” Cyan’s eye visibly twitched.

“Well of course. My concubines wouldn’t all fit in my room.” Obsidian explained.

“Concubines? You brought concubines into my castle, which requires top security clearance to enter the front gate let alone the extensive background checks that get you through the front door, right after a security breach led to the loss of my children?” Cyan said all of this slowly, not taking a single breath.

“Yes.” Obsidian said cheerfully. “Don’t worry. I only brought twenty.”

“Kric.” Cyan turned to me, his entire body fuming. “Please lead Obsidian and his harem to his wing.”

“Is something wrong King Cyan?” Obsidian’s eyes were daring, his smile teasing. It was easy to see the feisty vampire was eager to start a fight.

“Well, my children are missing so yes. Yes, Obsidian, something is terribly wrong.” Cyan growled.

“Children? You mean the short little thing with the bad wings and his human pet?”

“How dare-” Cyan’s eyes turned red, ready to tear Obsidian to pieces when Elijah entered the room.

“Eli!” Obsidian rushed the startles king, who instinctively held out his arms to catch the ball of vampire that was racing toward him. “I missed you!”

“I told you to wait at the gate for me.” Elijah sighed, taking a nervous glance at Cyan who was quietly fuming.

“I know, but I wanted to come see how Cyan was doing. You both must be feeling terrible about the kids.” Obsidian explained. “I played a prank to cheer him up, but he’s mad at me.”

“I’m sure he’s not mad.” Elijah chuckled, visibly stiffening when Cyan narrowed his eyes. “Maybe no more pranks though.”

“I’m sorry.” Obsidian apologized, his face falling. “I messed up again and got you in trouble.”

“No, it’s fine, alright?” Elijah ruffled his hair. “I’ll take you to your wing and go over your security detail with you.”

“Security detail?” Obsidian pouted. “Why? You and Kricky know I can take care of myself.”

“Well Eli and Kricky won’t be around to make sure you don’t get yourself killed.” Cyan jumped in. “So the security detail is a necessity.”

“Not really a necessity.” Obsidian mumbled. “But it could be fun to play with them.”

“No playing!” Cyan ordered.

“Eli?” Obsidian turned to the poor king who was stuck between his childish friend and his bonded.

“Maybe no more pranks, just while you’re here.” Elijah repeated.

“Fine.” Obsidian scoffed, turning his back to us all. “I’ll just send for a few more concubines.”

Cyan lunged, but I jumped in between before he could sink his claws into the unsuspecting vampire. “Come on. Let me take you to your rooms.” Elijah held out his arm to Obsidian, who wrapped himself around it eagerly.

“Wonderful.” Obsidian agreed, allowing himself to be led out of the room.

“That went well.” I joked, trying to ease the tension.

“I swear Kric, if you don’t keep that good for nothing leech out of my way, he’ll have a hot iron shoved down his disrespectful throat!” Cyan pushed me away from him, making me stumble. “I want him in and out of this palace! Have his security brought in right now! No exceptions!”

—————

“I don’t want to!” Marco whined as I practically dragged him to Obsidian’s wing. “He drained his last body guard to the brink of death! He had a gladiator style battle between his guards to see who would escape the castle with their lives!”

“No one died!’ I defended Obsidian. “We shut down the battle before anyone was mortally wounded.”

“You’re trying to kill me off! I thought we were friends! I took your advice! I left willingly only to be called back as a sacrifice!” Marco cried, trying to yank his arm free.

“He’s not as bad as the rumors say. They’re all exaggerations.” I insisted.

“Oh yeah. What about what Cyan says?” Marco countered.

“Well he and Cyan have… a weird relationship. It doesn’t count.” I gave one final pull, planting him in front of the wide doors that shielded Obsidians wing from outside eyes. “Listen, it’s just a few days. I’ve got to put you somewhere far from Cyan and it doesn’t get farther than Obsidian. With Cyan micromanaging the search for the kids, this is the only place he’ll keep far away from.”

Marco was silent for a while, seeming to weigh his options. “You’re sure the stories about him are exaggerations?”

“Wild exaggerations.” I promised him, giving the door a gentle knock.

“Well it’s good to know that he’s not an eccentric leader that travels with a harem and actively fights his guards.”

“Oh that? That’s true.” I informed him, just as the doors opened to reveal a tall, muscled man in a G-string.

“Oh solar.” Marco gulped, taking in the bronzed man before him. “You are… Lord Obsidian?”

“Master is in his private chambers.” The deep baritone voice informed us. “He does not wish to be disturbed.

“Master?” Marco turned to me. “What kind of kinky love nest are we walking into?”

“Don’t worry.” I assured him, waving off the concubine and leading him into the wing. Marco kept close to my side, attempting to ignore the men and women in various states of undress who were writhing around with one another on the floor. “Remind me to tell Cyan to have that cleaned.” I pointed to one of the walls which currently hand a man’s ass press against it as another man blew him from the front.

“Why does Solar keep punishing me.” Marco whined.

“It’s not that bad. Since when are you such a prude?”

“Hey! I’m no prude! I’ve had my fair share of men and women and maybe a little extra, but a giant orgy? Really? That’s always been your style, not mine.” Marco defended. I stopped in front of a solid oak door that had been intricately carved to read ‘Master’s room’. I made a mental note to have the door replaced before Cyan saw it.

“What’s so wrong with communal love?” I asked.

“Communicable diseases for one.” He muttered under his breath as I knocked on the door.

“Who is it?” A small voice called, followed by a moan.

“Seriously? Another sex party?” Marco cried, clearly not amused. “He must be just like you.”

“You’d be surprised.” I chuckled, throwing the door open.

Obsidian, his small shoulders leaned back into a throne like chair, had his hands tangled in a larger man’s hair, seeming to viciously shove his cock down the man’s throat. “Kricky!” Obsidian called, slightly out of breath as he held the man’s head down, making him gag violently before he released him. “Oooo, did you bring me someone new to play with?”

“He’s obsidian?” Marco turned to me. “He- he looks like…”

“Who’s this yummy vamp-pie.” Obsidian chuckled, still mouth fucking the man between his legs. His coal colored skin was glistening and a faint blush was coloring his dark cheeks. His breathing was rapid, accompanied with a cute giggle every once in awhile. Obsidian noticed marco’s stare, immediately taking it as an invitation. “Would you like a taste, sweet man?”

“I’m leaving.” Marco stated, turning on his heel to escape. He was out the door in a second, leaving me to look disapprovingly upon Obsidian.

“What did I do wrong, kricky?” Obsidian pouted.

“I told you I was bringing your bodyguard. You did this on purpose to tease him.” I accused, watching Obsidian pull the man off his cock and kick him in the chest to leave.

“He was cute. I wouldn’t mind taking a bite out of him.” Obsidian smiled his typical mischievous smile.

“You will not.” I told him.

“Why can’t I? You know telling me no just makes me want it more.” Obsidian answered.

“He’s my ex and one of cyan’s dearest friends. I know you get off on seeing how far you can push the king, but know that Marco is strictly off limits. Cyan will castrate you and leave you for the wolves to eat.” I warned him. “And even if Elijah could convince him not to, know that I would too.”

“Fine.” Obsidian’s lips slipped into a pout. “But there’s no way I won’t tease him a little.”

“Be good.” I ordered. “And put your dick away. I’m going to bring him back.”

I rushed out of the room, catching Marco right before he could exit the wing. “This has got to be some sick joke!” Marc raged. “You have got to be kidding me! You talked about Obsidian and I pictured something like Bruftus. A walking stone statue with enough muscle to fight a small army!”

“Obsidian is strong. DId you see him choke that guy on his-“

“That’s not what I mean! I was picturing a big, brawny man! You gave me someone who could be Cyan’s brother!” Marco cried. “Same height, same hair, similar fragile bone structure. If he weren’t gray with fangs, i’d need to see his birth certificate!”

“Well, they’ve got their differences-“

“Oh I know! The guy gagging on his cock was the last clue! For solar’s sake, I can’t do this!” Marco cried.

“You can and you will!” I snapped. “This is an order! You can not go near Cyan, and so you will guard Obsidian! You will keep him away from Cyan and out of trouble! You’re the only person I trust to do this. So suck it up Soldier, and do your damn job! Do I make myself clear?”

“Crystal.” Marco scoffed, pulling his arm from my grasp.

“Commander Kric!”

Marco and I turned toward the approaching soldier. “Yes?” I asked.

“The Fairy elders were able to create a working connection. They’ve zoned in on the witch. King Cyan has ordered you to assemble a team.” The soldier explained.

“Search and rescue?” I asked.

“Rescue and termination.” The soldier clarified.

“Wonderful. Marco, come with me. Call for Ven and Trem as well. I assume King Elijah is coming?” The soldier nodded. “Better bring Maja as well. We’ll leave in five.”

—————-

Incendio’s P.O.V.

“You did wonderfully Iris.” Udiya assured the child.

“Kieran and Ciel will come back now?” Iris asked, his eyes shiny. “We can take them from the bad man?”

“Oh baby.” Michellie hugged him tighter, having refused to let him go since he’d returned home. “Don’t worry. They’ll be home soon.”

“He can’t go.” Cyan hissed under his breath, his eyes staring Elijah down.

“He wants to help.”

“He wants to destroy. That’s all Obsidian ever wants.” Cyan insisted, tightening his grip on Cyan’s sleeve. “These are our kids, Elijah. Please…”

“If you want Obsidian to stay behind, he will.” Elijah assured him, kissing his forehead. “Don’t worry. I’ll bring them home my love.”

“It’s time to go. We want to leave during daylight. He’ll have the advantage once the moon rises. Are we all clear on our roles?” Kric asked.

I looked around frantically, not sure of how to speak up. The other elders hadn’t seen what i had seen. The future was blurry, too blurry to make out… but Kric was my mate and that clarified things a little.

I saw enough to see that the plan would backfire in our faces. The room was filled with people, many of whom didn’t have clearance high enough to hear what i had to say about what would happen. “Um-” But they were charging out, marching into battle. “Wait, I-“

“Care to join me in my wing?” Obsidian asked Cyan, drowning out my words.

“You mean the section of my castle you filled with whores?” Cyan countered.

“Oh come on King Cyan… ” Obsidians eyes narrowed, “isn’t that a bit like the pot calling the kettle black?”

“Excuse me?” Cyan growled.

“Cyan-” i tried, dismayed as I watched the rest of the room file out.

“Not now, Incendio!” Cyan’s anger almost brought me to my knees. Obsidian kept grinning. “I’d suggest you watch how you talk to me, Obsidian.”

“You know, King Cyan… I bet the anger coursing through your blood would taste heavenly.” Obsidian smiled.

“Elijah seems to think so.” Cyan shot back. Obsidian’s grin faltered for a second. “Elijah loves how I taste, so much so that he’d beg on his knees for it.”

That conversation was taking a turn I couldn’t follow completely. I sensed a lot of animosity and unresolved tension, and overwhelming amounts of jealousy. However, I had seen a ghastly vision. I had seen the slaughtering of a child… the werewolf child.

Kieran was in danger and I could tell no one. After all, Only Cyan, Elijah, and Michellie knew the truth.

I needed to do something. I had to help somehow. “Is there something you’d like to say?” Cyan hissed at Obsidian.

“Whatever do you mean?” He asked innocently.

“I have the strangest feeling that you have something you’d like to tell my bonded,” Cyan accused, “and I think we’d both know his response.”

“Do we now?” Obsidian chuckled. “From what I hear, there is definitely trouble in paradise. Maybe you’re picking up on your own fear, king Cyan.”

“I’m not afraid of you.” Cyan scoffed.

“No, but maybe you’re scared of what Eli might respond.” Obsidian tilted his head to the side in a cute manner. “After all, don’t think you’re the only twink to have gotten Elijah on his knees.”

“I could kill you.” Cyan laughed. “I could rip your head from your body and no one could stop me.”

“You’re right, but you won’t.” obsidian laughed as well. “Things are shaky enough in your home. Could you imagine Eli’s reaction if he came home to find one of his oldest friends dead?”

Cyan opened his mouth to deliver another scathing retort, nowhere near ready to listen to me.

You may think that doing nothing is hurting no one, but look around. If you think what i did was so wrong, you had the power to change it, but you didn’t.” Kric pointed out. “So don’t be angry at me. Make sure you act the next time or you have only yourself to blame for the consequences.”

Kric’s words rang in my head, propelling me to do something I would never normally do. I left the room, knowing that neither of them were paying any attention to me.

I closed my eyes, tuning into Kric’s unique soul frequency. I saw him in my mind, propelling me to chase him blindly. I knew I was being led the correct way. I only hoped that my choice wouldn’t make the situation worse.

——————

I arrived to a battleground. That was the only word I could think of to describe what I was seeing.

There were wolves everywhere, so many that I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was maybe 100 within the compound, but the number was dwindling quickly.

I floated in through an open window, no one paying me any mind. My presence wasn’t a strong one. That was just another feature that helped fairies hide. A majority of the group was outside, not having worked through the sea of werewolves yet. Elijah, kric, and Marco were the only ones inside. As Elijah tore through the wolf army with ease, I tried to sneak around the outskirts of the fight to find the little ones.

I could sense their familiar flames somewhere close, but the commotion was making it hard for me to see them in the crowd. Thankfully, the crowd was becoming a sea of carcasses. Dead werewolves covered the floor like a new carpeting. With almost all dead and the rest rushing to escape with their lives, I finally made out two small huddled figures just across the dozens of bodies.

“Incendio?” Kieran nudged Ciel, who was pressing the werewolf child to his chest.

“Incendio!” Ciel cried, his eyes wide. They stood up, noticing that the Witch who was holding their chains was more focused on the group advancing toward him.

“Shhh.” I mouthed to them, taking in the dirt floor beneath our feet. I motioned to the ground, smiling when their heads snapped down to look at their own feet. I leaned down, digging my fingers into the hard dirt that softened for me instantly. “The locks.” I told the earth. “Please unlock their chains, my dearest friends. I will be forever in your debt.”

I watched the dirt shake around me, and create a trail of dust as the seeds beneath the ground zoomed toward the children. When the seeds arrived, they began to sprout long, wriggling stems that curled around the chains and dug into the locks.

In a matter of moments, the locks around their throats were open, freeing them. “Good, My dearest friends. Won’t you please bring them to me?”

The vines wrapped around their arms and legs, lifting them from the ground. Unfortunately, it was then that the witch, Allister, saw me. “You?” He hissed.

“Come quickly!” i cried, holding out my arms as the earth attempted to rush the children to me. Kieran and Ciel zoomed above the witch’s head, the sprouts having grown into trees with thick vines that could swing the children toward me.

“Oh, you stupid, stupid fairy!” The witch cackled. He pressed his palms to the beautiful trees, turning the trunks to ash. The children dropped a few feet from me, landing on top of a pile of dead wolves. “I knew I should have killed you last time.”

“Incendio!” kric cried as the witch made a few strange hand gestures.

“Oh well, better late than never.” The witch smiled at me, flicking his wrist in my direction. Something long and almost translucent shot from his palm. The closer it got, the more it looked like a shard of glass. I assumed it was ice, knowing that piercing me with something that cold would be the most painful way for me to die.

It was all a matter of a second. I closed my eyes, knowing I would never be able to dodge. “Incendio!” Kric yelled again, but he was closer this time.

The pain hit me almost instantly. I clutched my stomach, sure that it should have pierced me in the heart. I opened my eyes, crying out when I felt nothing there.

“Fuck!” Kric cursed, falling to his knees. The ice was sticking out of his stomach, most likely causing him unbearable pain. He pulled it out, the blood gushing from the wound.

“No! Kric!” Marco cried.

“The dragon saved the fairy… how strange.” The witch mused. “Oh well, I don’t mind the dragon dying too.”

I tried to hold it in, but the longer Kric was wounded, the more I began to feel it. I bit my lip, clutching my stomach to try to get the pain to stop. Finally, I screamed, falling to my knees. “Incendio?” Kric groaned, trying to turn his neck to see me.

“What’s happening? Why aren’t you dying?” The witch yelled at Kric. I watched as Kric’s wound began to close, causing my pain to worsen. Tears began to roll down my cheeks as the seed inside of Kric, the seed tied to my own flame, kept him alive by transferring more than half of the injury to myself.

I felt my stomach begin to bleed, making me cry out again as my body rushed to repair itself now that kric was alright. “Incendio?” Kric was at my side, pressing his hand against my bleeding gut. “What’s happening?”

“Interesting… ” The witch smiled at me. “I misjudged you, fairy.”

The hole began to close, lessening my pain. I watched as the witch’s eyes darted to the children. “No! Come!” I cried, the sprouts growing far too slow due to my damaged state. Elijah rushed forward, grabbing Ciel just as the witch caught kieran.

“I’ll be holding onto this one as collateral.” The witch smiled at me. “Until we meet again, Fairy.”

“No!” Ciel and Elijah seemed to cry simultaneously as the witch disappeared in a puff of smoke.

I stood, my legs still feeling shaky. I felt eyes on me, all asking the same question. “Incendio,” Elijah spoke first, “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine.” I mumbled.

“Hold on,” Marco spoke up, turning to kric, “You should be dead! You lost way too much blood to be alive right now!”

“I’m good at healing.” kric defended.

“No, no one is that good at healing.” Elijah countered, looking between Kric and I. “Both of you will meet me in the throne room when we return. Now, let’s head back home. I don’t want anyone else to know about this incident.”

Kric was staring at me, his eyes trying to find answers on my face, His arm was still around me, pressed against my stomach. He had me pulled back against him, his arm not ready to budge anytime soon. “The seed?” He finally asked me when Elijah and Marco were far enough away, all the pieces seeming to come together in his head. “This is what the seed does… why you didn’t want anyone to know.”

“I am sorry.” I whispered.

“How many lies is that now?” He asked me, still not releasing me although his voice sounded disgusted. “Was any of it real?”

“What is real?” I mumbled, leaning against his chest. “Reality is what we make it.”
