CHAPTER 12:
“All shelters of appropriate size are hereby warranted for search by order of King Cyan! All who refuse to submit to the search will be taken into custody! All who seek to hide any shelters will be arrested and tried for treason! The punishment for noncompliance is imprisonment and in some cases, Death!” I read the decree aloud in the town square. I looked up, noticing that most if not all of the town’s residents had shown up when they saw the mass of soldiers arriving at the palace. “Let this news travel quickly! Searches will start soon! That is all!”
The people dispersed quickly, most likely rushing home to inform anyone who hadn’t shown. The large group of guards behind me had begun to move as well, each moving toward the section of town they would be searching.
“I want every house searched top to bottom! Every shed, storage or garage, as well! Anything large enough to fit a child in must be checked!” I ordered.
“Yes, Commander Kric!” They called, moving out. I sighed, watching the new group of soldiers approach. They would follow me to the next town where I would read the same decree and would begin the search. Another group would meet me to journey to the next town and so on until all of the sun kingdom had been checked.
So far, five towns had been checked and each had turned up nothing. One woman refused to have her house searched which caused a bit of an uproar, but it was soon discovered that she had been hoarding blood rations from the local bank, not harboring stolen children.
It was now officially a week and a half into the search with absolutely no leads. All we knew was what the fairy elders were occasionally able to come up with, like the children not having left sun people land and that the witch was taking precautions against being predicted by the fairy elders, whatever that meant. There was a perimeter being held around our land, making sure no one came or went and the fairy elders continued their search from within the castle… which meant Incendio was there too.
Needless to say, I hadn’t been to the castle since we had last spoken.
Cyan called me for updates and Michellie texted me incessantly about coming back, but I was happy where I was. I was back on the front lines, giving orders and kicking ass. “Commander Kric.” A dragon, Hekil, greeted me. Her smile was wide and her black hair was long, braided intricately down her back and stopping at her knees. I had put her in charge of castle security while I was gone. It was imperative that now that Ciel was missing, the current kings get more protection. It was sad to think about the reason why, but nevertheless necessary.
“Hekil.” I greeted her. “How are things at the castle?”
“Safe, but dreary.” She reported. “I’m out on King business in place of his royal highness. I’ve got to contact the delegates coming from the different sun races to change the human. The blood angel delegate lives in this town. I’ve come to retrieve him. I found it a bit odd that they would need a delegate for their own race, but they’re not really in the mood for questions.”
“Who changes a person is very important is blood angel culture. They’re some of the strongest beings, but there is a hierarchy. King Cyan is the strongest because he was born to be one. King Elijah is second because Solar changed him. Michellie is third because King Cyan changed her. Michellie then changed ten people who then proceeded to change everyone else. That way the hierarchy is stable. If the Kings were to change some human, they would be substantially stronger than a majority of the blood angels in existence, giving them status they don’t deserve. The delegate, one of the original ten who changed a majority of the population, will change the humans to put them on equal footing with the rest of society.” I explained.
“Oh, that makes sense.” She nodded. “I didn’t really understand changing. After all, dragons are born not created. If it doesn’t involve a penis ejaculating into a vagina, I don’t totally get how it creates something.”
“The sun people are a diverse species. We reproduce differently. We look differently. We mate differently.” I told her. “It all works the same, even if it’s different. Two things come together, one overtakes the other, and something is born. That’s the same for dragons and blood angels.”
“That’s true.” She sighed. “Speaking of, you haven’t really been coming together and overtaking anyone at the base.”
“What? Have the orgies fallen apart without me?” I joked.
“Unfortunately no, your absence didn’t kill the sex drive of dozens of fully grown dragons.” She joked back. “Still, we miss you. Your stamina was always appreciated.”
“We all have the same stamina. We’d fuck for three days straight.” I finally really looked at her, sensing a different meaning behind her choice of conversation. “What is this really about Hekil?”
“Wow, you sure can read me.” She chuckled. “Fine, the dragon women are going to requiring you soon.”
“Excuse me?” I raised an eyebrow at her. “Why?”
“Why do you think, Commander?” She raised her own eyebrow in response before she seemed to spot the man she was looking for and rushed off.
—————
“What’s that even mean? The dragonesses need me?” I turned to Maja who was lying on the couch of the office I occupied on the base. “Maja, tell me what’s going on?”
“How do you not know?” Trem interrupted from underneath my desk. He and Ven were currently hiding in my office from the children.
“It’s obvious.” Ven continued.
“You’d have to be a fool not to know.” Trem added.
“It makes so much sense, when you think about it.” Ven finished.
“Maja.” I looked to the girl currently trying to nap on my couch.
“Now you know how I feel when you sick them on me.” She taunted, arm covering her eyes. “Seriously Kric, think about it. What could you possibly have to offer the dragon women that they can’t get from the other male dragons on base?”
“And it’s not mind blowing sex.” Trem jumped in.
“Yes, me and Trem have that covered.” Ven joined in.
“I don’t know.” I groaned.
“Sperm, Kric! Strong, Commander Sperm!” Maja finally declared, sitting up. “We want strong warriors. Your children, they’re going to be champions. It’s practically guaranteed. They’re going to lead armies. If I were looking to have a child, I would make sure that they came from a successful bloodline. That’s what my mother did. She slept with strong warriors, legends even.”
I thought on this, realizing that the answer had been obvious. My mother had done the exact same thing. She liked sex, but she made sure that the people she slept with were a certain caliber of warrior. The man we thought had fathered all of us was a legendary dragon warrior. He had probably fathered many. Now I was the legend. I was the Commander of the entire Sun Person army. “Children.” I hummed, thinking about it. “Strong, Dragon children.”
“Yes, just what we need, more little Kric’s.” Maja groaned.
“I’m jealous.” Trem sighed. “I’ve got strong warrior seed.”
“Yes, i also want to knock up a dragoness and create strong warriors.” Ven agreed
“Please, none of you reproduce.” Maja whined.
“Awe, why not Maja? You don’t want to be a maybe aunty?” Trem asked her.
“Why have children when there’s always a couple dozen running around the base?” Maja asked us. “You guys get to dump a load and move on. I have to raise a parasite and then squeeze the watermelon sized creature out of a lemon sized opening.”
“That’s true. Don’t worry Maja. We will continue our bloodline. You just keep that pussy nice and tight.” Ven told her.
“Hey! That’s our sister.” I groaned, a bit put off by imagining her with any type of sexual organ.
“Maybe, or maybe she’s a hot dragoness we’ve mentally put off limits.” Trem countered. “Either way, related or not, we should all hope she keeps a well maintained pussy. If not for us, for the rest of dragon kind.”
“You know, Kric now has his pick of dragon kind.” Ven declared his realization out loud, cutting off his brother’s conversation about Maja’s vagina. “Whoever he wants, he’ll get. He’s got the prestige because everyone thinks his bloodline is strong, hes got the respect because he’s the commander of the army, and he’s not bad looking. Any dragoness looking to push out a baby will be on his dick faster than-“
“You’ve got to be selective yourself Kric.” Maja cut Ven off. “Don’t just fuck any woman who asks anymore. It’s about creating warriors and you want to go with the one’s who can meet your strength and prestige. Like Hekil, she would be okay. Just stay away from those dragoness whores who have no fight at all, but want the power that comes with raising a strong dragon.”
“Yes, toss those ones our way.” Trem told me.
“We’re willing to take them off your hands.” Ven finished.
“You both should listen to me too.” Maja insisted. “You’re in about the same spot as Kric. All you’re missing is the title of commander, but you’ve got the prestige, strength, and looks as well. Don’t let those women use you like cum pumpers. If you want children so bad, go for the women who will produce heirs, not offspring. We don’t need anymore mediocre stock. The stronger we keep our bloodline, the better it will be for our kind in the long run.”
“Wow Maja, so cold.” Trem tsked.
“But not wrong.” Ven pointed out.
“You’re right. For you sister, we’ll only fuck the finest of women.” Trem promised her.
“You do realize you’re currently hiding from the children right? How are you ready to father them if you can’t even handle kid duty on base?” I questioned the idiots under my desk.
“Simple. We’re not going to think too much into it.” Trem explained.
“Plus, they’ll spend a lot of time with aunty Maja. Right, sister?” Ven teased.
“I will castrate you right here.” Maja threatened.
“That would be detrimental to the warrior race we’re trying to create.” Trem tsked.
“Yes, how will we grow our powerful family? Kric doesn’t have enough cum in his body to father the small army we plan to create.” Ven joked.
“Me as a Father.” I mumbled.
“Don’t tell me you’re seriously thinking about it right now?” Maja asked me. “Weren’t you seeing someone?”
“Not really.” I told them all. “I- I had thought that maybe…. But I was wrong. We were just wasting our time. Still, a child, that’s another thing.”
“Kric, do you really want a child right now? Think about it.” Maja told me. “You’re not bonded-“
“You don’t have to be bonded to make a baby.” Trem pointed out.
“Still, Kric, you wanted to bond with someone again someday right? Wouldn’t you rather have children with that person instead? I mean, when you start tossing your seed around, like our possible father, that’s when you get into situations where you have ‘maybe’ siblings. Do you really want that for your children? Don’t you think you’d prefer to create strong warriors with your strong bonded?”
My mind went to Incendio against my will. I knew we weren’t mates anyway, but my mind still seemed to wander to him when the topic came up. However, Fairies couldn’t reproduce sexually anyway. Incendio may have been a special type of fairy who could do what others couldn’t, but he was also male which meant that it would be impossible anyway. The only two males to ever have children were Cyan and Elijah and that had most definitely been Solar’s doing.
It began to make sense that Incendio and I couldn’t be mates. After all, we wouldn’t be able to reproduce which was a big thing in Dragon culture. We were constantly having children to keep up with the need for warriors, unlike fairies who only poofed a few into existence every couple hundred years. Plus, even if we did have children, what would they look like? Incendio was small, almost frail looking. Dragon blood would obviously win his fairy blood just like it won over everything else, but he would still have Incendio’s genes. Yes, it all seemed to make sense. It could never have worked. How could I have thought it would? It seemed the more time I spent away from Incendio, the more I seemed to make sense of things. His presence had muddied my mind, but it was quickly returning.
My soul mate was still out there. The questions was, would they be able to have children with me? I didn’t know. It’s not like that would be a deal breaker for me. If we were meant for one another, I would accept all of them no matter what. That wasn’t the question. The question was, did I want children?
It was then that I realized, for the first time in my long life, that I did.
——————-
Incendio’s p.o.v.
“It’s been eleven days! I don’t understand why they haven’t been found!” Cyan was raging again, storming around the throne room in a hysterical fit. Elijah was attempting to comfort and calm hi, but Cyan’s power was far too strong lately. Everyone but Elijah was collapsed on the floor, unable to move and wrists bared in submission. I watched from my spot on my stomach as Elijah stumbled, barely able to walk while Cyan screamed obscenities and cried.
“My love.” Elijah finally caught him, pulling the furious king to his chest and slightly using him for support. He caressed Cyan’s cheek, trying to get his attention. “We’re all searching my love. We’ll find them.”
“You don’t know that.” Cyan whimpered. “Ciel’s wings were still healing and Kieran is just a human and Iris keeps taking over Incendio for split seconds, but he’s terrified and-“
“The kids are strong.” Elijah assured him, pressing a kiss to his forehead. “I’m certain of that. Ciel is brave, Kieran is caring, and Iris is intelligent. They’ll stay safe and take care of one another while we search for them. Afterall, the last time Iris took over Incendio, he said he thinks the man is going to leave for a while. When that happens, Iris can open his connection with Incendio fully and we can find them that way.”
“Right.” Cyan nodded, not looking very convinced. Still, his anger was dissipating and lifting the weight from our shoulders. After a few minutes, we were able to stand up again. “You’re right… I just- I need to keep looking. Hekil!”
“Yes King Cyan?” Hekil, a raven haired dragoness stepped forward, her emerald eyes burning.
“Have kric return to the palace. Tell him no exceptions this time. I need to speak to him.” cyan ordered. “Also, see to it that the rooms for our sun delegates are secured. I won’t have another attack wiping out the Vampire lord.”
“Vampire lord?’ Elijah piped in. “Why is he coming?”
“He requested to. I told him he could send anyone, but he insisted. You know Obsidian. He rarely has a reason for the things he does.” Cyan rolled his eyes. “The reason you left him in charge of the vampire kind is beyond me.”
“He and I go back. He’s a good man, hated Elizabeth with a passion.” Elijah defended.
“If that’s your criteria then every vampire in existence could have become a lord.” Cyan countered. “I don’t have time to deal with Obsidian’s recklessness once he’s here so i’m assigning him a security detail.”
“Doesn’t he have his own security detail?” Elijah asked.
Cyan scoffed. “Yeah he did, until they quit.”
“Quit?” Elijah frowned.
“Yes, apparently he’s gotten very good at terrifying his staff.” Cyan answered. “We’ll put a pin in that because right now, my main focus is the children. Once they’re home, we’re seriously going to rethink Obsidian’s title.”
“He does his job. He keeps the vampires in line and he’s very old so he’s very strong.” Elijah pointed out.
“Let’s see how much you can defend him once he’s in our house running amuck.” Cyan whispered under his breath before turning his attention to Hekil. She was just hanging up her phone.
“Commander Kric is on his way. He should be here, five minutes tops.” Hekil announced, her red lips twisting into a smile that made my stomach hurt. “He would be here sooner, but it appears we’re tearing him away from some very eager dragon women.”
————-
“I want our best, least squeamish vampire guards on Obsidian at all times.” Cyan was ordering Kric, who nodded in acknowledgement to every order he was given.
It was so different to see Kric in his element. His stance was so much more rigid, his eyes much fiercer. The playfulness he usually carried seemed to be shut off, no room in his mind for anything, but business. His expression was stern and concentrated, that is, until Cyan mentioned Obsidian.
“Obsidian?” Kric seemed to crack a smile immediately. “You want me to subject the palace guards to Obsidian?”
“We have no choice.” Cyan insisted.
“The dragons won’t even work for Obsidian, let alone the vampires.” Kric chuckled.
“It’s not funny.” Cyan grumbled. “You and Elijah both, you let Obsidian get away with murder.”
“Only if it’s funny.” Kric defended.
“Who is Obsidian?” I asked from my spot in the corner of the room. I had spent my last few days here, always by Cyan’s side in case iris attempted to contact me. Mostly, I stayed silent and observed, but the name Obsidian seemed to ring a vague bell in my mind. Where had I heard that name before?
“Obsidian is a Vampire, the vampire really.” Cyan sighed, addressing me once he realized Kric wasn’t going to. “He was one of the first people that bruftus changed so he’s ancient as all hell.”
“Is he…cursed too?” I asked, remembering back to Bruftus and his old, unfortunate appearance.
“Unfortunately not.” Cyan answered. “He’s got the gray skin, red eyes, and protruding fangs, but that’s about it. Although, maybe he was cursed to be overwhelmingly disobedient.”
“He likes to have fun.” kric interrupted. “He’s brave.”
“He’s reckless.” Cyan countered.
“He’s confident.” Kric reworded.
“He’s arrogant.” Cyan insisted.
“He’s hilarious.” Kric tried.
“He’s facetious.” Cyan disagreed. “You and Elijah only defend him because he’s the third member in your twisted little bromance.”
“Bromance?” I repeated, not following the conversation. I kept thinking, trying to recall where I had heard the name Obsidian.
“Yeah, Elijah, kric, and Obsidian have known each other for centuries. Obsidian’s normally gone, off terrorizing a village or something.” Cyan explained. “When he isn’t, he’s here terrorizing me.”
“He likes you.” Kric insisted.
“He likes tormenting me and you guys don’t help. You feed into his antics. Last time he showed up, he convinced you both to attack that nymph village.” Cyan grumbled.
“Are you still upset about that?”
“I’m sorry, it’s not everyday your bonded comes home covered in dirt and reeking of nymph sex!” Cyan snapped.
“He didn’t sleep with the nymphs! They were sleeping together when we got there!” Kric defended, as if he’s had to explain this before many times.
“I don’t care what happened! This time, you keep Obsidian out of mine and Elijah’s face! I mean it! I cannot be more clear! Obsidian is on very thin ice and if you’d like to keep your little vampire friend, make sure to keep him away from me until you find my children!”
I opened my mouth, ready to ask another question when I felt the fire surge up through my throat. My eyes snapped shut, feeling as if they were rolling back in my head. The sensation was familiar, and filled me with overwhelming happiness.
“Hello?” My mouth moved, but the voice was not mine. “Is anyone there?”
“Iris?” Cyan jumped into action, rushing to my side. I could feel his hand wrapped around my arm, shaking me. “Iris, where are you?”
“He’s gone. He left.” Iris announced. “I don’t know how long. You have to hurry.”
“We’re coming Iris.” Cyan assured him. “Just keep the connection open.”
“Hurry.” Iris said again. “We have to get him.”
“Get who?” Kric spoke up.
“He’s crying. I can’t find him. He’s in another room.” Iris was rambling, attempting to explain as much as he could in a short period of time. “The man wouldn’t let him stay with us. He said he’s too important. I’m worried. Please hurry.”
