*That Day*

2 a.m

A celebration. That’s what everyone was calling it. He didn’t understand what it was for, though. His birthday or to make him forget that he was dying- which he had surprisingly come to terms with.

Dying. His lips twitched up to form a smile. He remembered his mothers trying to explain it to him when he had been just a little pup. His grandfather had died stripping away the last shred of security they felt they had in their rogue lives. ” He’s in a better place.” Mama Trisha had said. ” In a very beautiful place.” Mama Silvia had added. Heaven, they had called it. As a pup, he had thought about that place a lot, mainly as the place the would get to go someday when they left the cave behind. When they wouldn’t have to clean themselves in a stream, wouldn’t have to share a small skin for covers, would have food more than the one fruit per day they usually had. And they had found it. He didn’t know why but for his six-year-old self the Crescent moon pack was Heaven. They had their own house, there was more food but more importantly, there was Liam. So, in his six-year-old mind, he and his parents had died and now they were living in Heaven. It was a lot later in his life that he had discovered the real meaning of death. There was an attack on their pack and one of their warriors had died. He was, almost twelve at the time, one of the kids who had the fortune to find the bodies a few days after the battle had ended. Liam had tried to turn him away while the others inspected the body but curiosity always won. However, after what he saw that day- the mangled body of someone he had actually known- he wished it hadn’t. There was another discussion about death with his parents and the royal family, after which he had concluded that he wasn’t dead and he didn’t want to be.

Now, though, he wouldn’t mind being dead. There was a theory he had heard that if the person had been good they would be sent to heaven. The real Heaven, a place where all the wishes were fulfilled. So, there was a chance that if he wished for a Liam, he would get his very own Liam and it was a better deal than any he was getting while he was alive, so death would have to do.

He groaned as the pain in his right hand got worse. It had started as a little pinch under his pinky finger almost around the time the party started but now it was getting at a slightly unbearable point. He flinched as a rather current like sensation passed through his little finger making him squeak. His mothers looked at him from where they were sitting beside the Luna, all of them having a casual conversation. The party had dimmed down and now it was only the closest pack members sitting around and talking amongst themselves. Liam-who his mothers had finally allowed him to see- had disappeared almost twenty minutes ago saying something about another present he had for Zayn and since then the silver-haired boy had sat in his chair pressing his hand together, trying to ignore the increasing pain in the right one.

” Zayn?” asked Harry from beside him where he and Louis were cuddling on the sofa. Managing a smile, Zayn raised his left hand to give him a thumbs up.

His eyes wandered to the legs that were approaching him. Tilting his head he had looked up at the concerned blue eyes of his best friend, the taut smile still stretched against his lips.

” I’m fine.” It was impulsive, his reply.

” I think you should head to bed.” Niall pulled him up with his right arm, which he was thankful for.

” Yeah, you should rest.” His mothers approached them taking their places on both of his sides and carefully guiding him back to their portion.

” Okay.” He whispered to no one in particular and waved to his friends, who smiled at him.

” We’ll come in the morning, Okay!” Harry called out after him. Sluggishly, he gave him a thumbs up- which he had decided was a very good alternative to when he couldn’t talk or didn’t feel like using words. Niall followed them to their door and then bid his goodbye, promising that he too would visit him in the morning. A sudden warmth settled in his heart at his friend’s gesture.

The only thing good that came out of Liam not talking to him all those months was that he got to make friends who weren’t the alpha prince and he didn’t want to be mated to them, which was a very calming experience. It wasn’t what he had with Liam, it never could be. Friendship could never be compared to Love. He didn’t know that before he befriended Harry and Niall. With Liam, he had mistaken Love for friendship but with his other friends, it was pretty clear that both the things were very different. Both very essential but in completely different ways.

Mama Trisha helped him settle in his bed, tucking him under all those covers as if he were still a four-year-old. He remembered when he had told her that he wished he would die before the coronation day so that he wouldn’t have to see Liam with anyone and she had struck him so hard, he had seen stars. A part of his wish had come true and he wanted to apologise for that. Apologise for wanting this and that he didn’t feel sad about it and that he would leave them behind. Apologise for being selfish and thinking only about the possible Liam in Heaven who would be his.

The thought also urged him to think of the possibility that the moon goddess had heard his entire request and maybe he would die tonight before the coronation and as sick as it was he felt rather calm about it.

” Let me see it.” Mama Silvia brought her hand closer to his arm when he gasped as another pain wave passed through his hand. Reluctantly, he got it out from under the cover showing it to her. He knew there wasn’t any sort of bruising or cut there, so when his mother gasped while inspecting his hand he was rather confused. ” Trisha.” She called out to her mate.

Confused, Zayn sat up in his bed trying to pull his hand back from his mother’s grasp but she kept it in her hold, fingers skimming around it gently.

” But he’s only sixteen.” Mama Trisha exclaimed. Her brown eyes skimmed to Zayn giving him an incredulous look, sparking his curiosity.

” What is it?” He asked them, pulling his hand away from them. The palm looked rather normal, a little paler but still normal enough. However, there was something dark on the back of his hand. At first, he thought one of his friends had drawn on him when he wasn’t looking, but then his mind caught up with him and even though he was on the brink of death, he hadn’t lost his sense entirely. He knew exactly what it was, his mark. His mate mark. It was the tree, the apple tree that never bore fruit. The branches entwined around his fingers, his attachment point. But he was only sixteen, wasn’t he supposed to have his mate mark when he would turn eighteen?

He looked up at his mothers, the question on the tip of his tongue. ” Omega.” Mama Silvia whispered and for a second he felt like he wasn’t breathing. Omega. The rarest of wolves. They usually went into their heritage earlier than Alphas and Betas. Was he an omega? The first omega in the century? His head was spinning and he was very dizzy all of a sudden.

” Call Daniel.” Mama Trisha told her mate as Zayn almost fell back against the headrest. ” It’s okay sweetie. We just need to see if the mark left any sort of infection when it came.”

” I’m an omega.” He whispered to himself, as he was gently pushed into his nest.

” Yes, my love. First one in the century.” Mama Silvia kissed him on the forehead.

He leant into mama Trisha’s embrace as she situated herself beside him.” Our very special baby.”

The mark hadn’t left him with an infection and he was indeed an omega. Dr Daniel, much to his parent’s disappointment, told them that even though he had come into his heritage, Zayn was still very much dying. He further told them how him being an omega explained the rejection process starting so early and without even the mates ever meeting. During all the exchange Zayn just laid there listening to their conversation, detached. Though it was a new thing, it didn’t actually make a difference. Before he was a dying wolf, now he was a dying omega wolf. Nothing more nothing less. A hopeful part of him wished that he had seen Liam’s mark and a more hopeful part of him wished they had the same mark. But even when he dreamed about them together gushing about their marks to each other, it felt like he was in another life because it was simply too good to believable.

It took Liam more time than he had anticipated in finding his journal. After a good hour of trying to find himself, he had asked Harry to find it for him. The beta had been very straight forward about how he didn’t want to help but when Liam mentioned it being about Zayn and his childhood he knew he had successfully bent his decision. Another hour and they had finally found it. Which led him to where he was now. He had skipped his way to Zayn’s house sneaking into his room ( after getting Silvia’s permission of course.) and carefully placing the journal beside the pillow. When he was done with the task he took the liberty to look at the love of his life as he slept away peacefully.

An unconscious smile covered his lips. Zayn was drowning in the sea of covers, the only thing out was the tuft of silver hair crumpled against the covers. Fondness pooled under his skin as he combed the silver strands, relishing in the feeling that it left him with. His hand started buzzing fingers twitching in the sea of silver. He didn’t know why but suddenly he was feeling very content as if he was floating on a cloud. Sadly, he had to leave before Trisha could find out that her mate had let him come at such an ungodly hour, while her son was resting.

” Goodbye, Zayn” He kissed the hair before leaving.

Oddly content and serene.

Every Single Jigsaw Piece (Ziam Au) (boyxboy) - bara

It was funny how he was feeling a lot like Liam must’ve felt when he had written those words, except he didn’t hate it and they were actually mates. He had showed the journal to her mother’s who had sighed in relief before running of to get the Alpha Prince. He himself had walked to the Apple tree sat against it and was now reading the last few entries of the journal.  He was happy, too happy, the smile on his face too big but he didn’t care. He caressed the LJP And ZJM etched on his ring finger, his heart fluttering against his ribcage.

Liam was his mate and everything was perfect.
