“Dude! He doesn’t want to see you!” Zayn yelling.
“Of course he does! He loves me! Just let me talk to him!” A slightly deeper and groggy voice yelling back at him.
“Correction. Loved.” Zayn said, I could tell he was smirking just from his tone of voice.
“He still loves me. I know it.” The voice seems so familiar…
“Get lost Justin.” My blood ran cold. Justin is here?
Rubbing my eyes I sat up and fixed my hair before climbing out of bed and tugging on some sweatpants, leaving my boxers and shirt on the floor.
I padded down the stairs in my Star Wars socks and slid into the kitchen, coming face to face with Justin Dunlop. The colour drained from my face as he noticed me and smirked.
I walked towards him and did the first thing that came to mind.
Slap.
His head flung to the side and where my hand had made contact was already started to go red. I didn’t care.
“Get out.” I snapped. He looked down at me with a soft expression, one you would give an injured puppy.
“Darren…” He begun but trailed off, Zayn took my hand in his.
“He said get lost.” Zayn cut in and pulled me to his side, I nuzzled against his warmth and smiled as he leant down and pressed his lips to mine softly.
Then I was on the ground and Zayn was against his fridge with Justin’s hands around his throat.
“Darren is mine!” He yelled and Zayn shoved him and they fell to the floor, kicking and punching each other.
Shakily I rose to my feet and running my hand through my slightly greasy hair so it stuck out in all directions I looked down at the two and took a deep breath.
“Stop it!” I screamed and Justin immediately paused what he was doing and turned to look at me.
My chest was heaving with my heavy breathing and my hands were balled into fists.
They both stood and brushed themselves off, Zayn walked towards me and I collapsed into his arms with a choked sob.
I felt his familiar strong arms wrap around my smaller frame and hold me to his chest as I cried against his sweater clad chest.
Justin cleared his throat from behind us and scratched the back of his neck.
“Darren… Can I talk to you?” He whispered and I looked over at him with a sigh and nodded.
“Alone.” He pressed and looked at Zayn who hugged me tighter. I pushed myself away from his chest and gave him a reassuring smile.
“It’s fine babe.” I said and he frowned slightly.
“But-” I cut him off by leaning up and connecting my lips with his, wrapping my arms around his neck and pulling him closer to me.
When I pulled away I pecked his lips once more and smiled.
“It’s fine.” I whispered and he nodded and rubbed his nose against mine with a smile before reluctantly letting me go and leaving the room.
I turned to Justin.
“Well?” I snapped and he let out a sigh as he sat at the breakfast bar and patted the chair beside him. I crossed my arms over my chest and spoke through gritted teeth.
“I’m fine standing.” I hissed and he nodded slightly and ran his fingertips through his hair.
“Darren… I’m sorry, ok? Letting you go was the biggest mistake of my life, but you have to admit, long distance wasn’t making us happy.” He said and I looked down at the tiled floor.
“You could’ve told me before you went around fucking random sluts.” I snapped and I heard him shift in his chair.
“My girlfri- A-Amy… She isn’t a slut.” He said and frowned slightly. I rolled my eyes and gave a dry chuckle.
“Justin. You broke my heart into pieces then threw it in the trash. So I’m going to think that any girl you date is a slut.” I said and he gave me a small smirk.
“Well… I didn’t mean to break your heart. And you seem to be doing just fine.” He mumbled and I let out a frustrated sigh.
“You told me to move on!” I exclaimed and he stood up and yelled.
“I only said that because… I… I…” He stopped and looked down at his balled fists, his expression softening.
“Why are you here Justin?” I asked and he looked up at me.
“I love you Darren.” He said and I closed my eyes and shook my head.
“No you don’t.” I muttered and the next thing I knew he had stormed over and was towering over me.
“Look at me.” He growled but I kept my eyes on the floor.
“LOOK AT ME!” He yelled so I did and then his large hands were cupping my cheeks and his soft lips were planted against mine as he kissed me.
I froze in place until he pulled away then I looked up at him as his eyes brimmed with tears and he took my hand in his and looked down at it.
“You… You took it off…” He whispered and his voice cracked.
“What?” I asked with a confused frown and he ghosted his thumb across my fingers.
“Your promise ring… You took it off.” He replied and looked down at me with tear filled eyes.
“I’ve lost you, haven’t I?” He whimpered and I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out.
He dropped my hand and took off his own promise ring and set it on the kitchen counter.
“That’s all I needed to know.” He whispered as the tears rolled down his cheeks.
“Goodbye Darren.” He said then left the kitchen and moments later I heard the door close. I hesitantly picked up the promise ring and read the writing on the small silver band.
It had been slightly worn but it was still there clear as day. I dropped to my knees and stared down at the ring sitting in the palm of my pale, shaking hand.
I took a shaky breath and tucked the ring into my back pocket as my eyes blurred with tears.
The kitchen door opened and I looked up to see Zayn standing in the doorway with wet hair and a towel around his waist.
He saw the tears that had leaked out of my eyes and walked over to me, wordlessly he got down on his knees in front of me and leaned forward then kissed away the tears and pressed a firm yet comforting kiss to my forehead.
I looked up at him and he took my hands in his larger ones.
“Hey beautiful.” He whispered and gave me a large smile with a returned with a slight smile as he hauled me up with him as he stood.
“I love you Darren.” He mumbled against my hair as he kissed the top of my head gently. I wrapped my arms around his waist.
“I love you too Zayn.” I whispered and kissed his shoulder softly as he hugged me tighter.

I was sitting in chemistry and my eyes trailed up to the clock. Five more minutes until it’s Halloween break. Praise the Lord!
“Now class, that’s our class done for today but be safe over Halloween break and have fun!” Mr Killian grinned at us all and took off his tie, tossing it into the trash and clasped his hands together.
“Off you go!” He yelled and pointed at the door. We grabbed our stuff and rushed out, racing down the halls as the bell rang. Zayn appeared at my side instantly and kissed my cheek. He picked me up bridal style and walked slowly down the hall behind everyone else, kissing me.
We got to the big double doors and he walked out, both of us being hit by the mild fall air as the leaves of the trees floated to the ground and scattered the ground with colours of red, yellow, orange and brown.
I nuzzled into his sweater clad chest and against his scarf as he jogged down the steps of the school, his warm scent of cinnamon and expensive cologne flooded into my nose and I closed my eyes against the wind.
Zayn set me in the passenger seat of his car and hopped in beside me, taking my hand over the middle console and starting up the car he kissed my cheek and pulled out of the parking lot.
We drove through the crowded streets as school kids both young and old shared the exact same smiles and relieved eyes of Halloween break finally arriving and setting us free for a week and a half.
Zayn squeezed my hand tighter as he drove up to my house and stopped the car. We both hopped out and he room my hand as we strolled up the lawn.
We stopped outside my door and his hands rested on my hips as he dipped his head down and connected my lips with his roughly.
When he eventually pulled away he rested his nose against mine and smiled at me.
“I’ll pick you up tonight at 7 for our date.” He said with a smile and took my hand in his, swinging our arms slightly as he walked down my porch steps.
“Okay…” I replied with a goofy grin and a giddy giggle.
“Okay.” He said and smiled up at me as we looked into each other’s eyes.
“Okay.” I said again and he smiled wider as our arms continued to swing he dropped my hand and backed up the driveway.
“Okay…” He called back then tripped over the bin and fell over before scrambling to his feet and waving he got into his car and pulled away down my street.
I chuckled at his clumsiness before walking inside with a happy smile I dropped my bag by the door and kicked off my shoes. Max appeared in the kitchen doorway.
“Be careful Dar.” He said as he took a bite of a pear that was clasped tightly in his left hand so the juice leaked out onto his hand.
“What?” I crossed my arms over my chest.
“Just, make sure he loves you as much as you love him. I’m your big brother. And I don’t want what happened with Justin to happen again that’s all.” He replied and took another large chunk out of his pear.
I rolled my eyes and nodded.
“I’ll be careful bro, I promise.” I smiled at him and he smirked in return then nodded and disappeared back into the kitchen.
I picked up my bag and jogged up the stairs, taking them two at a time as my room came into view.
I leapt onto my bed, dropping my bag on the floor in the process as I collided with the mattress and I bounced up slightly with the impact.
I let out a small sigh as my phone rang in my pocket, taking it out and seeing it was an unknown number I picked up.
“Hello?” I chirped and heard a hiccup from the other end then a sob.
“Darrrreeennn!” Justin’s drunken slur could be heard from the other end. I sat up straighter on my bed before replying.
“Justin? What do you want?” I asked tiredly. Another sob from Justin followed.
“I miss you! I… I wuv youuu! Zayn h-he doesn’t deserve you. He’s not good enough for you.” I rolled my eyes.
“Zayn loves me Justin-” his angry voice cut me off.
“I do too!” He exclaimed and I ran a hand through my hair.
“No you don’t! If you did you wouldn’t have got together with Amy!” I yelled at him. There was a pause. A long pause. I was about to hang up when he spoke again.
“I know I’ve b-been a shit boyfriend! Ok?! But I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry! I’m in love with you! I can’t live without you!” He cried and I sighed once more and stood up.
“Yes you can.” I snapped and heard a few more sobs from his end.
“No I can’t! And to prove it I’m going to jump off this bridge into the water below! For you!” He yelled and that’s when I heard it. Every noise I hadn’t noticed before.
The water.
The wind.
The sound of a running car.
And shouts from people I’m assuming were passing by.
“Justin. Justin listen to me carefully. Where are you?” I said as I ran down the stairs and tugged on my shoes.
“I’m going to do it Darren! For you!” He slurred and I slammed my fist down on the carpeted stairs beside me as I tied my shoes.
“Dammit Justin just tell me!” I snapped and grabbed my keys from the dish in the hallway.
He hiccuped again.
“I-I’m… I’m downtown.” He replied reluctantly and I leapt in my car and pulled away just as it began to bucket with rain.
Great.
“Stay where you are. Don’t move.” I ordered then hung up as I sped towards downtown.
—
When I eventually arrived at the river downtown I leapt out into the rain and sprinted across the highway until I arrived at the railings. He had drawn a crowd. Justin was standing on the rail with his arms out and a bottle of vodka in his hand.
I stopped beside the rail and grabbed hold of his shirt which was flapping in the wind. He turned to me with puffy red eyes and tears running down his cheeks.
“Darren?!” He exclaimed and I smiled slightly and climbed up onto the railing beside him. He threw his arms around me and clung to me like he would never let go.
“Alright Justie.” I cringed at how I used the nickname. “Let’s get you down from here.” I went to climb down and help him down so he nodded and went to hop off when he slipped on the railing with the rain and fell off the bridge, dragging me with him.
We hit the water with a large splash and I gasped at the sudden feeling of the shocking cold waters splashing up around me.
I resurfaced and drank in large amounts of air as screaming was heard from above. Looking around I splashed to keep myself a float and shaking my hair so water was sent spraying out everywhere I suddenly came to realisation that Justin hasn’t surfaced yet.
“Justin!” I screamed. Nothing. Panic set in as I swam around desperately looking for him.
Holding my breath and diving back down under the cold water I opened my eyes and gasped when they settled on Justin. The lake water flooded down my throat so I swam to the surface and choked it up then took another large breath and dove back under.
I swam deeper down until I reached Justin’s unconscious body tangled with a fishing net. I grabbed him by his arms and began tugging upwards. He didn’t budge.
Trying harder I swam down and began tugging at the net in an attempt to get it off his leg.
I was running out of breath when it finally came loose and I grabbed him by his arms again.
As I swam upwards trailing Justin behind me I felt myself feeling lightheaded and just about emerged before I passed out.
I gasped for air and pulled Justin up with me, I began to swim towards the closest patch of land I could.
When I had eventually dragged the both of us onto the patch of sandy area I gasped for air desperately as my hair and clothes that were drenched with water left puddles on the sand as on all fours I tried to catch my breath.
I looked over at Justin and crawled over to where he lay, also drenched and unconscious. I hovered above his chest and listened to hear his breathing. He was still alive, but barely, his breathing was faint and laboured.
I looked up at the bridge to see the cops and paramedics had arrived. I looked back down at Justin with a fond smile and ran my fingertips through my now soaked hair.
“Looks like I’m going to be late for our date Zayn.”
Well here! Have it! I hope you liked! Bye bye my loves!
