Chapter 16
Eli’s pov
“And we texted all night long.” I said trying to keep my cool but I knew the blush was on my cheeks.
We were talking about Carter.
“You so like him!” Kayla teased shoving me playfully as we walked down the pavement to school.
I groaned and glared at her.
“No I fucking don’t.” I scoffed.
“Whatever, whatever.” She replied rolling her eyes. “So are you ready for the basketball game tonight?” She asked.
I felt uneasiness surround my heart. I had been feeling so giddy because of Carter and how I felt like myself around him that I had completely forgot.
“Not really to be honest, maybe I can fake being sick?” I groaned but she never awnsered.
She had lost interest in our conversation and was focused on something else, or should I say someone else.
She was smiling across the lawn of the school building. I fallowed her line of vision and saw she was smiling st Wes.
“Awe you really like him don’t you?” I cooed softly and she blushed.
“Yeah even though he’s kinda a dork.” She said and giggled. We kept walking.
“Go talk to him. He is your boyfriend isn’t he?” I teased.
“Yes we’re dating but we can’t let people know that!” She explained as if it was common knowledge.
“And why not?” I asked confused.
“People would judge us.” She replied.
I furrowed my eyebrows at her in confusion the realized what she was doing.
“Oh I see what your doing, you want me to talk to Carter in public but since I’m too scared to do that your trying to prove a point.” I said and she simply nodded.
“Well, I’m just not brave enough to risk my reputation, and my life to talk to some boy.” I replied as we walked into the front doors of the school.
“Your life? Don’t be so dramatic Eli.” Kayla roled her eyes.
“Don’t you get it?” I asked turning to face her. “This is my life. Without my… Without my dad proud of me, my popularity, my athletic ability I’m nothing.” I said fighting the tears that were about to fill up in my eyes.
I stormed off down the hallway but not quick enough to not hear what she said.
“You can’t pretend forever Eli.”
Watch me.
Chapter 16
Carters pov
I gazed across the classroom at Eli. He gave me a small smile in the hallway today, that definetly Ment something.
He was just so… Different then the people he hangs out with, so different then how he acts. He was so much smarter and accepting.
Plus he was super cute.
Eli tilted his head and his eyes landed on me. Oh shit I’m still staring.
I quickly turned my head and pretended to be focused on whatever the teacher was saying.
When I glanced back he was smirking.
He caught me.
I mentally face palmed and felt the tips of my ears and my cheeks heat up. Great going Carter, embarrass yourself infront of the hot guy.
It kinda sucked. I liked him and I’m pretty sure he likes me. I’m tired of playing this cat and mouse game with him.
Why couldn’t he just, I don’t know, ask me out?
I tried to focus on on whatever the teacher was trying to teach us but my gaze kept drifting off to Eli.
I just couldn’t get him off of my mind.
After class I basically ran up to him.
“Hey Eli.” I said walking up to him.
“Oh…. Hi Carter.” He replied gathering his books together as the class filed out.
“So I was wondering if you wanted to hang out with me tonight, we could play video games or something.” I offered nervously scratching the back of my neck.
Before he could reply Someone flicked the back of my head.
“Sorry, but Eli here doesn’t want to hang out with fag like you.” Kyle smears appearing next to me and walking over to Eli, putting his arm around Eli in a Bro-ish way.
I looked at Eli with hope that he would stand up for me but he was too busy staring at the ground.
“Isn’t that right Eli?” Kyle asked.
“Yeah,” he said looking up with a poker face. “Sorry fag.” He sneered and they left.
I felt my heart fall to my feet as he walked away.
And I thought he was different.
