The prince yelled at the guard as soon as he put him down to allow him to go help his father.
“Your highness can you please stop? I must follow your fathers orders and you know this.”
Jeremy sighed and sat down oh his bed.
“Ugh I hate this. I hate all of this. Why does thus have to happen. I never asked for this. To be treated as a prize just something someone sees as a way to benefit themselves.”
The guard looked at him in awe, but didn’t say anything.
“Look at me blabbering on about my problems.” He said as he got up off the bed. “And my dad’s out there risking his life for me. There’s nothing I can do but sit here and wait for the outcome.”
“Your highness with all do respect you’re a good prince. You are defiant but you are a good prince.”
“Thanks but…”
“But what your highness?” the guard asked intrigued.
“I don’t know where I was going with that.”
The guard turned away from him and walked back to the door.
“It’s a shame that my father has to slay his own people just to make peace in this uncivilized nation. When I become king I just want us to be more peaceful with each other.”
The guard stood there motionless for a moment then there was knock at the door. The guard pulled his sword out of the sheath and approached the door. He opened it and the king came in holding his side.
“What’s wrong father?” Jeremy asked frantically.
“I’m fine.” The king coughed. “Sit down I need to talk to you.”
“Okay.” Jeremy replied.
King James sat down on his son’s bed and starred at him while he held his side. He coughed a bit before talking to his son.
“I need you to promise me when you become king you won’t let this happen. Promise me son promise you’ll be a better king than I am promise me this. Promise me that you’ll be stern, but peaceful. Promise me that you won’t do the things I did to make people happy. Promise me this please.”
“I promise father anything you want me to do. Why are you telling me this?” The prince asked as a tear fell from his eye.
“I just need to know that this kingdom will be in the rightful hands the true heir. Someone who will actually make something out of this harsh land.”
Tears continued falling from his eyes as his father sat there telling him this he felt something in his chest that something bad was going to happen.
“Son I love you and I just want you to know that and I know if anything happens to me I that you will take care of this. I love you son.” The king reached out to hug his son. He coughed as they hugged and then he stopped breathing.
“Father?!” Jeremy yelled frantically.”Father!”
“Your highness I think he’s dead.” The guard announced.
“No he can’t be dead. Father wake up.” The prince yelled as he frantically shook his father.
“Your highness I didn’t want to disturb your conversation but I knew he was dying.”
“And you didn’t try to get help?”
“I didn’t want to leave you two alone anyone could’ve came in and did something your highness.”
Prince Jeremy sighed.
“Why did this had to happen? Why did I had to lose someone I cared about to gain the whole world? A world I don’t even want to be a part of.”
The prince shook his head trying to expel any tears from his face.
“I don’t understand, but I guess I’ll have to learn once I’m crowned king.” The prince said trying to put up a smile.”
