Some say the world will end in fire

Some say in ice

From what I’ve tasted of desire,

I hold with those who favour fire

But if I had to perish twice

I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction, ice

Is also great

And would suffice

~ Fire and Ice – Robert Frost ~

~ The Lake ~

It’s been a month now, and I’ve been having the same exact dream. The heat and my name warmly spoken had been etched into my memory long ago.

Unfortunately, the beatings were also a constant. Sometimes they were kinder, but most days they were harsh.

Today seemed to be a good day though, I was in my last class of the day and I hadn’t been beaten up once.

I asked my teacher if I could go to the bathroom and I was let go with a pass in hand.

As I came out of the cubicle to wash my hands, I heard the door slam.

I turned to see the Jock Pack at the door.

“Ah, I was wondering when I was going to be graced by your guys’ presence.” I sighed.

I never learn.

I was thrown to the floor and quickly given kicks to my stomach and head.

I wasn’t listening as I was thrown insults, spat at continuously. I heard the bell ring and the door was slammed in their wake.

I groaned as the pain became recognizable in my brain.

I waited a few minutes to gather myself, then slowly got up, testing to feel if anything was broken.

My body groaned under the weight of me getting up, but I could feel my arm and ribs worst of all, so I could firmly say that they were damaged.

There’s only one place that I could go to right now, my sanctuary.

When we first arrived on Earth, on my first day of school, I had run out of the school in fear and had come across a beautiful lake with a huge Weeping Willow tree next to it. It felt like a haven to me, so I brought Thalia in to cast a simple cloaking spell. Now, whenever I passed the boundary tree line into my sanctuary, I would become invisible.

So, I slowly made my way out of the school and to my sanctuary. I felt the tingling as I crossed the boundary and knew that the spell had taken effect.

With injuries like the ones I had now, I knew that it would take more energy that I had now to heal myself.

I stripped, leaving only my underwear on, and slowly climbed into the lake. After floating in the soothingly cold water, I sent out an ice pulse.

Another thing that Lia had done for me was to connect my healing powers to the Willow on the bank. Now, I need only send out an ice pulse, and the tree basically oozes my healing abilities back to me, It was for times like this, when I could barely use my powers.

I lay there for what felt like hours, the healing-cold spreading over and into my body.

I let out a long relieved breath as my pain soon disappeared.

I lay there for a long time, letting the water calm me before sending out another pulse, effectively cutting off the tree.

I let out a sigh and reluctantly pulled myself out of the water.

I was pulling my shirt on after drying myself when I heard a sigh near the entrance to my paradise. I whipped my head around and saw the most beautiful boy I had ever seen in my life.

The first thing I thought of when I saw him was fire.

He had black hair. Not the colour that everyone says is black, but is really just dark brown, but actual black, like he rolled his hair around in coal. He had the most beautiful eyes, they were molten gold with a rim of black around the edge. His eyelashes were long and thick, perfectly framing the moving colour in his eyes.

His hair was long enough to brush over his collar and his ears. His styled quiff held a dark red beanie in place . He had a single, simple lip ring in the lower left of his bottom lip, but I couldn’t help but wonder what he would look like with snake bites.

To top off his ‘bad boy’ look, he had a leather jacket over a black top splashed with red, and ripped, black skinny jeans. Topped off with red Toms, he was the sexiest man I had ever seen.

I couldn’t help but stare at the way that he walked as he walked towards the lake. He walked with long, confident strides, but he was slouched, as if wanting to hide away – it held its own beauty.

I stared at him, unknown to him, as he walked towards my lake. I saw him sit down next to the Willow and let out a long breath.

I decided that I could no longer invade his privacy, so I quickly stole out of my haven and back to the horrid place that I call home.
