in School Canteen…

The school canteen buzzed with energy students chattering, trays clattering, and laughter echoing through the air.

Aditi, Shagun, and Priya, balancing their cold drinks, weaved their way toward their usual table, dodging passing students like pros.

And then….BAM!

Out of nowhere, three boys came BARRELING toward them, running like their lives depended on it arms flailing, feet skidding, absolute headless chickens in motion.

Before the girls could react…COLLISION.

It all happened in slow motion. One second, Aditi was holding her cold drink. The next, it was airborne, spinning like a mini cyclone before…SPLASH.

The sticky, ice-cold liquid rained down mercilessly, landing straight onto one of the boys.Silence.

A drop of cola trickled down his forehead. His once-white school shirt was now a soggy, sugary mess. He blinked, as if his brain was still catching up to the disaster.

The entire canteen froze. A hush settled over the crowd as dozens of students turned to witness the impending drama.

The boy, Abir, stood rigid, his expression shifting from shock to sheer disbelief as he slowly lifted his arms to inspect the cola-soaked catastrophe that was his uniform. His friends took one look at him and immediately took a step back, like he had transformed into some radioactive experiment gone wrong.

A droplet of cola dripped from his hair onto his nose. His jaw tightened. His fists clenched. His nostrils flared. And then his glare snapped to Aditi.

“What the Hell !” he groaned “Dekh ke nahi chal sakti kya?” he snapped, shaking off his sleeves, sending more droplets flying.

Aditi, still holding her now-empty cup, tilted her head, unimpressed. “Tum bhi to dekh ke bhaag sakte the na?”

The canteen erupted with muffled giggles. Abir’s eye twitched. His ego? Officially under attack.

He let out a dry chuckle, flipping his wet hair back. “Tum jaise naye logon ko school ke rules samajhne mein time lagta hai, par basic manners toh hone chahiye na?”

Shagun gasped theatrically, placing a hand on her chest. “Ohoooo….bhaiya, aap etiquette expert kab bane? Koi award mila hai kya apko?”

More laughter. Even Abir’s own friends failed to hide their grins. Priya leaned in to whisper, “Aaj toh iska full public humiliation hoke rahega.”

Abir exhaled sharply, regaining his composure, and took a step forward, his tone dropping to something more threatening. “Bohot akad hai na tum mein? Soch samajh ke baat karna seekho, warna “

But Aditi, still utterly unbothered, cut him off mid-threat with a single, bored look. “Warna kya?” she asked flatly, blinking up at him like he was nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

Abir clenched his jaw. “Warna jo abhi tak kisi ne nahi kiya, woh ho jayega.”

The crowd let out an exaggerated, “Oooooh!”

Aditi exhaled through her nose, unimpressed. She took a single step forward, closing the gap between them, her eyes steady, voice casual yet deadly.

“You know what? Ladkon ki do category hoti hai…ek jo apni harkaton se impress karte hain…” She trailed off for a moment before flashing a saccharine smile. “Aur ek jo sirf garmi nikalne ke liye shabd phaenkte hain. you look like that one”

The canteen ERUPTED. Laughter, whistles, claps absolute chaos.

Shagun slammed the table. “DHAKAD ENTRY, YAAR!”

Abir’s face? Pure volcanic eruption. He opened his mouth, then closed it. Opened it again, then nothing. His brain had officially shut down.

Grinding his teeth, he yanked off his drenched blazer and shoved it at one of his friends, muttering, “This isn’t over.”

Aditi, completely relaxed, gave him a lazy two-finger salute. “Waiting.”

That did it. And just like that, Abir’s last shred of control snapped, he lunged forward, ready to shove her.

Big mistake…

With a swift, effortless movement, Aditi sidestepped, making him stumble forward awkwardly. She went back to wiping her hands, acting as if nothing had happened.

The canteen erupted into laughter.

Abir, now fuming, turned back, his eyes blazing with pure humiliation. The whispers, the laughter it all clawed at his ego, making his blood boil. His fists clenched at his sides as he took a step forward, face twisted in rage.

And then he went for the cheap move. In a moment of blind anger, he raised his hand, aiming to shove Aditi from behind, hoping to reclaim some control over the situation.

Another Big mistake.

Before his hand could even make contact….THUD!

In the blink of an eye, Aditi’s reflexes kicked in. Without hesitation, she grabbed his wrist, twisted it at just the right angle, and with a swift, calculated motion sent him CRASHING to the floor.

The sound of his fall echoed through the canteen. Trays rattled, gasps filled the air, and all movement ceased. For a moment, absolute silence.

All eyes were now on Abir, sprawled out on the ground, looking completely stunned. His pride, already hanging by a thread, had just been ripped to shreds.

Shagun’s eyes widened, and then she clapped. Once. Loudly. “Aditi 1 – Abir 0. Koi aur try karna chahta hai?”

Laughter erupted like a tidal wave. A few students even whistled. Someone in the back yelled, “Abir bhaiya, wapas uthne ka mann hai ya ghar chhod aaye?”

Priya, standing to the side, nearly choked on her laughter dramatically, smacking the table repeatedly.

Abir, still processing the fact that he had been floored by a girl, gritted his teeth. His face burned with embarrassment as he scrambled to his feet, knocking over a tray in the process. His friends stood awkwardly, unsure whether to help him or pretend they didn’t know him.

Aditi, still standing calm and collected, dusted off her hands as if she had just taken out the trash. Her gaze didn’t waver as she looked him straight in the eye.

“Agli baar haath uthane se pehle achhe se soch lena… kyunki har baar tumhari chal nahi chalegi, aur agla mauka shayad mile bhi na.”

Abir’s jaw tightened, his breathing ragged. He opened his mouth to retort but nothing came out. Because deep down, he knew. he had losted.

Abir groaned, pushing himself up, his fists clenched in pure humiliation. His face was burning not just from the fall, but from the laughter, the whispers, the eyes watching his downfall. This wasn’t just an embarrassment. It was a public execution.

He had to do something. Had to regain control. His eyes flickered to Aditi, rage bubbling back up as he took a step forward…But before he could make another move… “YAHAN HO KYA RAHA HAI?!” The voice sliced through the chaos like a blade. Deep. Commanding. Unshakable.

The entire canteen froze. Conversations died mid-sentence. Laughter choked off into silence. Even the clattering of trays and chairs seemed to cease instantly. A presence had entered the room one that demanded attention without needing to ask for it.

Ansh. The Head Boy. The one person nobody nobody wanted to be on the wrong side of.

Abir flinched. The fury on his face momentarily flickered into uncertainty as he turned around slowly, his usual arrogance dimmed in front of Ansh’s steely presence.  Ansh’s gaze landed on Abir, eyes sharp as freshly honed steel, unblinking, unwavering.

Before anyone else could speak,… prqateek’s voice came”Aditi!”

He quickly scanned her face. “Kya hua? Tu theek hai?” His voice was softer than usual, but his sharp eyes had already landed on Abir, recognizing the tension.

Aditi, unfazed, simply shrugged. “Haan bhaiya, bas yeh thoda over-smart banne ki koshish kar raha tha.”

Prateek’s protective instincts flared immediately. He turned his full attention to Abir, his expression darkening. “did he tried to touch you?”

Aditi, sensing the storm brewing, nodded simply. That was all it took.

Prateek’s entire demeanor shifted. The protective older brother in him overpowered the composed discipline in-charge. His usually sharp yet controlled eyes darkened with pure fury, his jaw clenching so tight it could’ve cracked.

The air around them grew heavy. The murmurs in the canteen died down completely as people watched in silence.

Abir, who had been holding on to whatever arrogance he had left, suddenly felt the weight of Prateek’s glare. His confidence wavered, his body tensing as he took a small but unmistakable step back.

Prateek didn’t miss it. Neither did Ansh.

“Himmat kaise hui teri… meri behen ko haath lagane ki?” Prateek’s voice was low. Dangerous. It wasn’t a yell, nor a dramatic outburst. It was far worse. It was the kind of quiet anger that only meant one thing violence was seconds away.

Aditi, unfazed but fully aware of what her brother was capable of when pushed, took a step forward, placing a hand on his arm. “Bhaiya.” A single word enough to keep him from destroying Abir where he stood.

But Prateek’s breathing had already turned heavy. His fists curled so tight his knuckles turned white. His entire posture screamed restraint, but barely.

That’s when Ansh stepped in.

“Abir.” His voice cut through the air like a sharp blade firm, commanding, absolute.

The weight of his authority landed hard. No one questioned Ansh when he spoke like that. Not students. Not even troublemakers like Abir.

“Principal’s office. Now.”

Abir’s jaw tightened, his hands twitching as if itching to say something. But under the combined weight of Ansh’s unwavering command and Prateek’s barely contained rage, he had no choice. With a last glare at Aditi one that held frustration rather than defiance he turned and stormed off.

The moment he was gone, the tension broke like a snapped thread. Conversations resumed, but everyone kept sneaking glances at Prateek and Ansh.

Prateek exhaled sharply, his shoulders relaxing just a fraction. He turned back to Aditi, scanning her face once more, as if making sure she was truly unharmed.

“Sure?” His voice was quieter now, but still edged with emotion.

Aditi smirked, nudging his arm lightly. “Bhaiya yaar, tu jaanta hai mujhe. Koi mujhe haath lagane chale, toh haath bachake bhi nahi le ja sakta.”

Prateek’s lips twitched, half-annoyed, half-proud. He sighed, ruffling her hair roughly. “Pagal hai tu.”

Ruhaan clapped his hands together. “Toh, aaj ka natak yahin samaapt hota hai. Koi aur school fight ho toh please mujhe pehle bata dena, popcorn le aunga.”

Shagun rolled her eyes. “Tumse zyada dramatic insaan nahi dekha maine.”

Priya, still grinning, shook her head. “Mujhe lagta hai hume roz canteen aana chahiye. Kitni mast entertainment milti hai.”

The group burst into laughter as they walked off, leaving behind an unforgettable canteen legend that no one in school would forget anytime soon but to Ansh it was something else.

Ansh had seen a lot of things in his life. Fights. Arguments. Discipline breaches. But he had never seen something like this.

Aditi a girl almost half Abir’s size just flipped him like it was nothing. No hesitation, no panic, not even a second thought. Just a fluid, effortless movement, as if her body had already learned how to respond before her mind even needed to decide.

And then she had shrugged it off. Like it wasn’t something extraordinary. Like it was just muscle memory. That was not normal. That kind of reaction didn’t just… happen.

Aditi was reckless. Fearless. She walked through life like she had nothing to lose, like the world was hers to challenge. But what if just what if this wasn’t just about confidence?

What if she had been in situations before where she had to learn to fight back? What if this was something ingrained in her survival, not just strength?

That realization sat heavy in his chest. She acted like she was untouchable. But what if she wasn’t? What if, once upon a time… someone had tried to prove otherwise?

His grip on his pen tightened as he watched her now, casually brushing off Prateek’s concern with that signature smirk, as if she hadn’t just thrown a guy twice her size to the ground without breaking a sweat.

———————————————————————————————–

The incident spread like wildfire, turning into the hottest topic of gossip throughout the school. Every corner of the scool from classrooms to hallways buzzed with students animatedly reenacting Aditi’s swift takedown. The canteen, which had witnessed the actual chaos, became a sacred ground of storytelling, with different versions of the event being exaggerated by the hour.

Some swore Aditi had landed a full martial-arts combo on Abir before he even hit the floor. Regardless of the dramatics, one fact remained Abir’s reputation was shattered beyond repair.

Yet, amidst all this, Aditi and Shagun walked away without a single warning. Thanks to the swift intervention of the school’s power trio Ansh, Prateek, and Ruhaan the matter was presented as an act of self-defense. The teachers, though aware of the chaos, conveniently chose to focus their disciplinary measures only on Abir, putting him on probation while the girls walked free.

——————————————————————————–

The first day of school had finally ended, and the school, once alive with the chatter and footsteps of students, now lay silent. Most students had already left, leaving behind an air of peaceful stillness.

Near the parking lot, Prateek, Ansh, and Ruhaan stood waiting Prateek for Aditi, Ansh for Priya, and Ruhaan… well, Ruhaan was there purely for Shagun. The three boys stood with an air of casualness, but there was an unspoken anticipation lingering between them.

And then Their heads instinctively turned as familiar figures approached. Ansh’s gaze locked onto her.

Aditi. She walked with that effortless confidence, the golden light accentuating the sharp yet delicate features of her face. Strands of her dark hair lifted slightly in the wind, framing her unbothered, reckless, and utterly unreadable expression.

He should have looked away. Should have not let himself get caught in this moment. But he didn’t. Instead, his traitorous heart stuttered in his chest as he took in the way her dark, expressive eyes held something he couldn’t quite place.

His lips parted slightly, but no words came out. Damn it, he was staring. Again. Realizing it too late, he snapped his head away, suddenly very interested in the cracks on the pavement. His face burned with the betrayal of his own emotions. He cleared his throat, rubbing his nose in some weak attempt to distract himself from the stupid, stupid smile threatening to form.

And just when he thought he had recovered,…PAT.

A hand landed on his back, the weight of it way too familiar. Ansh didn’t even need to turn to know who it was.

Ruhaan.

The smirk Ruhaan wore was nothing short of pure devilish amusement. He didn’t even need words the wicked gleam in his eyes said it all. But of course, Ruhaan never missed a chance to verbalize the humiliation.

Ruhaan let out a dramatic sigh, shaking his head. “Bhai, main toh keh hi raha hoon yeh aankhon-aankhon wali baatein bohot dangerous hoti hain. Kahin tere dil ki battery zyada charge na ho jaye.”

Ansh exhaled sharply, rubbing his temple as Ruhaan continued his merciless teasing.”Aur waise bhi,” Ruhaan added, leaning in slightly, voice dripping with mischief, “jo ladki ek mukke mein aadmi gira deti hai, uske pyaar mein girna toh aur bhi dangerous hai, hai na?”

Ansh’s face flushed slightly, and this time, he shot Ruhaan a quick, deadly glare. But Ruhaan? Ruhaan just grinned wider. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Ansh forced his heart to slow down. To return to normal. To stop acting like an idiot.

But damn. That moment had caught him off guard. As the girls approached, Ansh instinctively glanced at Aditi again only to find her already looking at him.

His breath hitched for a fraction of a second. There was something in her gaze, something quieter than her usual sharp confidence. And then before he could even process it she spoke. Her voice, softer than usual, carried the barest hint of sincerity.

“Thank you aaj ke liye.” Two simple words. Yet, they unraveled him.Ansh felt his stomach do a ridiculous, traitorous flip, something he would never admit even under interrogation. Why did those words sound so… nice? Too nice? Unfairly nice?

He blinked, struggling to school his features into something normal. Calm. Controlled.Instead, his heartbeat stuttered completely ignoring his internal plea for composure. The warmth in her voice settled into his chest, lingering far longer than it should have.

He forced a casual smile, hoping it didn’t look as stupid as it felt. “It’s okay! Not a big thing.” But even as the words left his mouth, he knew. It was a big thing. At least, to him.

But, Ruhaan, ever the troublemaker, wasn’t about to let things slide. He leaned toward Aditi, pointing at Shagun with a dramatic expression. “Vaise, Aditi, yeh tumhare dost bhi tumhari tarah hi hai kya?”

Aditi frowned slightly. “Matlab?”

Ruhaan grinned. “Yeh bhi marti-warti hai kya?”

Shagun, who had been casually sipping her drink, paused mid-sip. Her eyes slowly narrowed as she turned toward Ruhaan. “Aur agar hoon toh?”

Aditi chuckled. “Nahi nahi, yeh aisi nahi hai.” Ruhaan placed an arm over Prateek’s shoulder, dramatically admiring Shagun. “Toh phir kaisi hai ?”

Shagun crossed her arms, her expression unreadable. “Tumhe jaan’ne ki zaroorat nahi hai.”

Ruhaan smirked, stepping a little closer. “Lekin mujhe toh jaan’na hai.”

Shagun tilted her head, giving him a fake sweet smile. “Jaan’na chahte ho? Theek hai.” She leaned in slightly, dropping her voice to a mock whisper. “Main woh bhoot hoon jo shaitano ka bhi sukoon chheen le.”

Ruhaan blinked. Then grinned. “Bas? phir to mujhe bhi khud pe ek bhoot ka saya chahiye.”

Shagun smirked. “achha to shamshaan ghat kyu nhi chale jaate.”

Ruhaan clutched his chest dramatically, as if she had just stabbed him. “aap hongi to waha main dance bhi karne ko tayiyaar hoon.”

Shagun rolled her eyes. “tumhare sath to gadha bhi na jaye idiot.”

Ruhaan gasped, pressing a hand to his forehead. “Haye! Ab aisa na karo, dard hota hai yahaan.” He pointed at his heart.

Shagun gave him a deadpan look. “ha to mar jao jake kahi.”

Ruhaan grinned. “tum to pehle hi maar chuki ho mujhe?”

Shagun picked up a nearby tissue, crumpled it, and tossed it at his face. “haan to apni bakwaas band karo”

The group burst into laughter as Ruhaan dramatically caught the tissue and pressed it to his heart like a love letter. “haye ab ye tissue paper sambhaal ke rakhunga tumne isse mujhe jaan booch ke diya na.”

Shagun shook her head in disbelief. “koi itna gawaar kaise ho sakta hai”

Ruhaan winked. “tumhare liye to main kuch bhi ban skta hoon”

Shagun sighed. “koi sambhalo isko.”

Before Ruhaan could continue his theatrics, a loud smack landed on the back of his head.

“Tera pet nahi bharta na beizzati khake?” Prateek scowled, shaking his head. “Junior hai woh.”

Ruhaan, completely unfazed, placed a hand on his heart as if deeply wounded. “Toh kya hua? Ladki toh hai na? Aur meri type ki bhi.”

He dramatically looked down, exhaling like a tragic hero, before flashing a mischievous grin. “Waise bhi, badi bholi si lagti hai, zubaan boht tez hai bilkul mere type ki.” He lifted his gaze dreamily. “mere liye perfect match.”

Ansh, who had been silently observing, let out an exasperated sigh. “Chup kar, nautankibaaz! Kisi din ye bhi utha ke patak degi tujhe.”

Ruhaan grinned wider, his eyes twinkling with pure mischief. “Wahi toh chahta hoon.”

Ansh groaned, rubbing his forehead. “Hopeless case.”

Aditi, Priya and Shagun, who had been listening, exchanged glances.

Shagun folded her arms, tilting her head. “ek serious baat batao?”

Ruhaan immediately perked up. “Haan, poocho poocho!”

Shagun leaned in slightly, her voice dropping into a deceptively soft tone. “tum thakte nhi ho kya itna flirt kar kr ke?…”

Ruhaan gulped, but his grin remained. “nhi toh?”

Shagun’s eyes gleamed with devilish amusement. “to kisi aur ladhki pe try kyu nhi karte tum.”

The group erupted into laughter as Ruhaan pretended to wipe away a fake tear. ” kisi aur ladhki main tumhare jaisi vibe nahi”

Priya shook her head, laughing. “Ruhaan Bhaiya to sudharne se rahe.”

Ruhaan sighed dramatically, throwing his hands in the air. “Sudharna bhi nhi chahta”

Ansh just sighed, a small smirk playing on his lips. This idiot was impossible

As they all started walking, Ruhaan suddenly turned serious. “Prateek sun.”

Prateek raised an eyebrow. “ha bol?”

Ruhaan folded his arms. “Teri behen ko bas touch karne ja raha tha Abir, tab usne usko zameen chata di. Toh soch, agar kisi ne usko actually kuch kiya hota toh?”

Prateek’s face darkened instantly, his jaw tightening. “Shukar mana ki sirf haath lagane ka socha tha, warna abhi hospital mein hota vo.”

Ansh, curious, tilted his head. “Matlab?”

Prateek exhaled. “She has a black belt in karate and a mastery in Taekwondo.”

Ruhaan whistled low. “Damn.  itna sab kyu?”

Prateek’s face turned unreadable, his usual playfulness replaced by something heavier. His voice dropped slightly, laced with something close to regret. “Aise hi… after that incident, she hates touches. Except from family and close friends. Usse bilkul pasand nahi hai.”

Ansh’s brows furrowed slightly, concern flickering in his eyes. “Kaunsa incident?” His voice was careful, as if bracing for something he wasn’t sure he wanted to hear.

Before Prateek could answer, a voice called out. “Bhaiya!! Jaldi chal, late ho raha hai!” Aditi’s voice cut through the conversation.

Prateek shook his head, pushing aside the past for now. “Haan, aaya.”

He turned back to Ansh and Ruhaan. “Kisi aur din bataunga. Abhi chalta hoon, warna yeh mujhe ghar pe zinda dafan kar degi.”

Prateek chuckled, waving at them before walking off towards Aditi.

As Ansh watched her walk away, he found himself staring again, his gaze unconsciously drawn to her. There was something about the way she carried herself strong, unyielding, yet distant, as if she had built walls so high that no one could even think of crossing them. She wasn’t just confident; she was guarded. Untouchable.

And for some reason, that realization unsettled him.

A strange pang of concern tightened in his chest, an unfamiliar weight settling in his mind. Why did she seem so used to handling everything alone? Why did her sharp reflexes, her effortless ability to shove off someone nearly twice her size, feel like more than just self-assurance? Like it wasn’t just instinct but something learned. Something necessary.
