The ride home had been a long one.
Nari leaned her head against the cool window, watching with a longing in her heart as the countryside blurred from green trees and blue sky to skyscrapers and harsh neon lights. Seoul did not feel as welcoming, rather there was an air of doomsday circling between the alleys.
They had started going over their plan, list of names, places and priorities. At one-point Nari had dosed off, her head lifted from the window to Geon-woo’s shoulder as he draped his jacket over her shivering body and went back to idle chatter with Hyeon-ju and Woo-jin.
It was only when they had reached their destination did he wake her. Groggish and sluggish, tired from the long journey, the four had struggled and then found the apartment complex Mr Oh so graciously provided for them.
“I could sleep for weeks” Nari yawned, her hand lifting to wave at her mouth as Geon-woo plucked her briefcase from her hand and slung her duffel bag over his other shoulder. Woo-jin grabbed Hyeon-ju’s as she too swayed in her step in fatigue. Nari forgot how exhausting Seoul could be.
“Once this is over, I might join you on that” Woo-jin nodded as the elevator doors pinged open.
“Do you even know where it is?” Hyeon-ju asked as Nari and Geon-woo glanced down at the number flashing on her device in her hand, his hands rather occupied as he leaned over her shoulder before glancing at the corridors.
“Of course I do” Nari said, her tone distant and dismissive as her eyes continued raking the unit numbers. Hyeon-ju merely scoffed in return, her head shaking in disbelief.
“Unit 809” Nari said, her voice trailing until she barely made out the three digit number, in the far corner of a corridor. “There” she said, her finger raising and Nari was quick to shook Hyeon-ju a triumphant glance. The other merely rolled her eyes and brushed past the smirking woman.
Hyeon-ju pressed the door bell, a cheerful ring echoed in their ears as the four of them loitered in the small passageway.
“I thought he was getting us an empty apartment” Hyeon- ju frowned to Nari, her words just above a whisper, head tilted for the older woman to hear.
Nari merely shrugged in return. ” Better someone’s apartment than no apartment” Nari replied before a beep pulled their attention to the doorbell.
“Yes?” a young timid voice mumbled. Woo-jin and Geon-woo shared a glance, awkwardness seeping into their demeanour as Nari lifted her hand into a wave while Woo-jin leaned down, lowering his mask to face the doorcam.
“Uh, hello. We were sent here by Mr Oh In-muk ” he said and a long silence passed before the door beeped. Nari was surprised to see a rather young girl greet them, she couldn’t have been older than a highschooler with rimmed glasses on her nose, long hair decorated with pink highlights and a rather indifferent attitude. She didn’t pay them much of a glance, merely widening the door and allowing them to enter.
Her sigh was deep when she warned them. ” Now if I come back and notice any sign of tampering with the tape, I’ll report you to the police” she said, the two boys being shot pointed looks as they glanced at the cabinet streaked with bright yellow tape. Both Hyeon-ju and Nari nodded in understanding. Geon-woo’s lips went to part but Nari lightly jabbed her elbow into his side, his lips sealed shut on command. Woo-jin was not as lucky, his curiosity slipped and the look the young girl gave him was scathing.
“My underwear is in there” she said and both boys took a moment to register before flushing deeply. Their hands waving in dismissal and embarrassment as they tried to reassure her that it was nothing like that. Nari and Hyeon-ju could barely wipe the smirks from their faces.
“One last thing, there’s two beds and a couch” she said noticing the four of them. “But it seems it doesn’t really matter” she then said, her eyes briefly flickering to Nari and Geon-woo.
“Uh why’s that?” Woo-jin asked and Da-min let out a dramatic exasperated sigh, grabbing the keycard in her hand. “Because those two look like they’ve already crossed multiple personal boundaries. ” she said, shooting a somewhat disgusted look at Nari and Geon-woo whose eyes widened at her tone and accusation. ” Don’t upturn my furniture” she warned.
Nari’s mouth dropped and Geon-woo stood beside her, lips parted and startled as he tried and failed to sputter a response, but Da-min was already moving.
“Anyway, here’s the keycard and keys for the car grandpa told me to rent” she said, handing it to Hyeon-ju . ”and here’s my number too but don’t call me, please” she told them. “I’m busy”
They all nodded, Nari still a bit reeled but Da-min just nodded, satisfied and already one foot out the door by the time they turned around to bid her farewell.
“Well, she was pleasant” Nari muttered and Hyeon-ju chuckled at her dismay.
“That was humiliating” Woo-jin agreed as they grabbed their luggage and dragged it into the living room. “Wait didn’t she refer to Mr Oh as grandpa?” Woo-jin asked, his brows furrowed while Nari placed the briefcases on the table.
“She must be his granddaughter” Geon-woo reasoned and Woo-jin nodded in agreement. ” Right, they look alike now that I think about it. They’re both small and wear glasses ” he said smiling.
“It didn’t seem like she wanted us here” Geon-woo muttered. “Did she not looked like she was forced to let us stay” he said, eyeing the photograph of Mr Oh and Da-min on the vanity.
”I feel bad” Woo-jin muttered, shrugging off his backpack, he placed at the foot of the couch. “But let’s wash up and strategize” he said and they nodded.
Nari and Geon-woo had placed their bags upstairs, a small loft bed that they had decided to share while Hyeon-ju took the downstairs bed and Woo-jin the couch. Nari and Geon-woo had both washed up and while Hyeon-ju finished in the shower she was sat at the top of the stairs, leaning against Geon-woo’s thighs as his hands dried her hair with the towel. She could barely make out anything from her hair flying in her face and the fast movement of his hands, but she merely leaned back and let him go to work.
“Doesn’t it feel like everything’s moving a bit too fast” she said, her voice coming out slightly shaky and low amongst the water running in the bathroom and the occasional banging on the door from Woo-jin urging Hyeon-ju to hurry her ass up before he kicks in the door.
“What do you mean?” his hands paused, lifting the towel from her head, he lightly brushed the damp strands away from her face. Nari merely shrugged, her eyes fixated on the polaroid photos of Da-min and her friends, her life and her grandfather hanging on the wall in front of her. She felt as if she was intruding- she glanced down at the thought.
“I don’t know. I mean it I know it’s been months since it happened but now we’re back and-” her nerves had sparked since they had left the countryside. The last thing she had done was say goodbye to Ms Yoon and her brother. She had told him she’d stay in contact and that she needed to be away for some time and Nari wasn’t so sure when they’d be backย much to her fear of making it back at all. Now that they were here, she could practically taste revenge and it scared her. ” I don’t want this to be a repeat”
“It won’t” Geon-woo said firmly. ” You don’t have to worry about a thing. Nothing will be a repeat, I won’t let it” he said and his fingers brushed down her neck and across her collarbone. Short hair suited her as much as her long hair did.
“We’re getting food” they vaguely heard Hyeon-ju yell from below as Woo-jin closed the door behind them, yet neither Nari nor Geon-woo seemed to hear it over the roaring of their hearts.
“You’re a lot better at this” she said lowly, and she shifted her body to face him, her arms were resting on his thighs, head tilted to look at his face as damp hair matted his brow, the occasional water droplet sliding down his neck. ” Keeping composed all the time. Making sure everyone is okay. How do you do it?”
” I don’t do it alone” he told her, gently lifting her hand as his fingers played with hers absentmindly. ” And I’m not composed all the time.” He confessed. ” There’s a part of me that wants to watch them burn for hurting you, for hurting Woo-jin and… the thoughts occupy me most of the time. I was the farthest thing from composed when you… when I had to wake up and you weren’t there beside me. I want him to pay for that. But then, the other part, the part that doesn’t want you to look at me differently if I did. The part that might label me a coward is terrified of what’s to come.” He told her honestly.
“I’m terrified that I’ll change. Because I want to end this without losing myself. Without losing you or Hyeon-ju or Woo-jin. Because I can’t bare it a second time. I don’t want to lose us to revenge. Or become like them.” He was nothing like how she made him out to be.ย
“You’re a good man Geon-woo” she told him, her hand reaching to brush his cheek. ” A kind man, and the world doesn’t deserve you. When we do this, we do this together, for each other and for them. And I’m not going anywhere this time” she assured and he nodded, his nose brushing hers tenderly and intimately.
“You better not” his voice was low and she could smell the vanilla on his skin, his musk and intoxicating allure. ” If you care for me, you’d never subject me to that kind of torment ever again”
Nari barely conceived her smile as her lips brushed his, his eyes opened slowly to see the stars flickering in her eyes, her head tilting and he was drowning in her presence and she was the only one who could save him. But just as much as she was his saviour, she was his destroyer as well.
Because by Byun Nari, Kim Geon-woo was forever undone.

“Let me show you how much I care” her words were soft and husky and it was something in the way his eyes dilated that sent a spark down her spine. Geon-woo’s expression faltered and as if he was being moulded like clay, gentle hands manoeuvring and controlling his every inch and very curve- he let her explore him with careful and sinful grace.
His body fell onto the bed, the back of his knees pressed against the edge of the mattress as Nari stood before him, in all her glory and beauty and all he could do was stare at her, head raised and eyes hooded.
He was pooling in her grasp when her hand weaved through his hair, below his ear and down his neck. Her fingertips were brushing against his skin and staggered breaths had left his lips and Nari felt a smirk befit her face- she had barely touched him. It seemed her effect on him was just as enamouring as his on her. Her pointer finger glided over his jaw until resting at the spot under his chin, she upturned his head further, his throat on his display and his Adam’s apple bobbing.
“Are you nervous?” she asked softly, leaning down as her head tilted with a mischievous grin. His fingers curled into the bedsheets below him and his gaze flickered with a cocktail of emotions.
“With you- always” he whispered just as dearly. Something like need edged his voice and Nari lowered her hands onto his broad shoulders as her knee came to rest on the bed beside him and the other lifted over his waist before lowering into a straddle. Geon-woo’s hands automatically placed itself onto her hips, his fingers cool against the skin of his shirt adorning her body.
Nari smiled tenderly, her hands treaded his hair, his eyes shut, and her hips lifted as his hands found themselves under her shirt, the material riding until his hands were flat against her back, tugging her closer until their chests were pressed together.
“Off” she muttered, her hands moving to his v line tugging at his white shirt until they hovered over his abs. He obliged without a word, barely leaning back until the material was discarded somewhere behind them. Her hands roamed across his shoulders, broad and wide. She felt every dent, every curve of his muscles and every tick in his body that blossomed under her touch.
She was intoxicating, breathtaking and he was completely at her mercy.
Nari was quick to discard her shirt, it too collecting amongst the pile before they reconnected, like a tether, magnetic and powerful and undeterred. His hands creeped up the base of her neck and Nari couldn’t help herself when she leaned in and connected his lips with hers. Her hands came to rest against his cheeks, his head lifting to press his lips deeper against hers as her hips bucked against his. A heavy gasp left his lips but Nari swallowed it as quickly as it came.
His eyes were shut in bliss, her lips were like poison. Killing him slowly. The longer she had him under her spell the more he found himself slipping away from reality. She had compelled him, so much that he was entirely in her control and she knew it because his heart was bared for her. Her name was tattooed in his skin, imprinted in his mind and her taste was consumed in his soul. He was hers for as long as she wanted him, yearned for him and burned for him the way he did for her.
“Nari” her name was breathless, needy and eager. He was almost shaking beneath her and with her body pressed impossibly close to his, he was almost certain he was not breathing.
She shushed him with her lips, her hips moving on command and he inhaled sharply as her hips rocked back and forth, his own lifted to meet her eagerly. His fingers dug into her hips, guiding her as their heavy breaths mingled together.
“Nari, please” he was desperate but she was in control. Nari placed her hands on his shoulders and lowered him until his back was firm against the mattress, she hovered over him, her hair pooling at her sides until she leaned back to straddle his waist.
“You-”
Nari tittered, his words dying on his tongue as she lifted her hips. Her fingers trailed down his chest, over his abdomen and just below his pelvis. His breath was lodged in his throat as her fingers toyed with the string of his shorts.
In one swift fluid motion, he was bare before her. Nari’s eyes were clouded, her hands creeping to her clasp before it sprung free and the remaining layers that separated the two were thrown into the increasing heap at the foot of the bed.
” I love you” she whispered into his ear before pressing a feather like kiss against its shell, she continued breathing the words into his skin as her lips continued moving lower and lower. He was practically writhing beneath her touch.
He called her name like a mantra, a song on a never-ending loop, an addicting hymn he loved. Nari’s back arched as she lowered herself, her head thrown back and Geon-woo’s hands moved to her thighs where he clutched onto her as if his life depended on it. Lewd sounds escaped both of them as she moved, his words falling faster than he could catch them as Nari placed her hands on his chest to keep herself from falling.
He was a mess before her, a beautiful, perfect mess. Nari brushed his hair from his face, allowing her to get a glimpse of the beauty in his expression. His eyes were closed, crescents amongst the stars, full lips parted with needy breaths fanning her face, his cheeks were flushed, rosy against his tanned skin. He was breathtakingly beautiful.
His hips jutted and he couldn’t handle it anymore, in one move, Nari was under him. He wanted her to feel as tortured as he felt. He wanted her to feel the effect she had on him.
” You drive me insane Byun Nari” he muttered against her lips. Her breath was coming out raggered as his hands trailed down the curves of her body. She was struggling to keep her composure as he pampered her with open mouthed kisses. She was basically squirming under his touch, his stare, his everything.
His nose brushed the column of her throat, his lips trailing down between the valley of her breasts before he loitered over the white scar across her chest. Nari inhaled sharply, shyly and almost embarrassed but he did not seem to mind. Instead, his lips found himself there, kissing it before his finger lightly traced over it delicately and gently as if something precious.
“You are beautiful. Stunning” he muttered against her skin, her wounds, their scars. The two of them bound by more than simple connections and interests. Connected by matching scars and outcomes, hared and love and adoration. He repeated those words until she believed it.
He continued, his hands weaving between her legs and a sinful sound released her as her back arched off the bed, but his hand was quick to place her back down. He continued loving her and for a while it was just the two of them. Blissful and uncaring of the world around them, the danger looming around every corner. Amongst bare bodies, pretty sounds and confessions- it was the two of themย against all odds.
“I love you” he whispered to her and to the night.
And for while everything was righteous again.ย
