Talia had always thought she had bad luck. But Robbie had confirmed her suspension when he had told her she was to share a room with the oldest Feder son, she had Owen at least so she wouldn’t be totally alone with the teasing asshole.
“I’m gonna go grab our bags,” Owen tells Talia as she looks around the room. It was a decent-sized room that the three young adults would be mostly comfortable in. The only problem was there was only one bed.
“Yeah, okay,” Talia answers Owen as she moves to the bedroom window. She could almost bet that they had the best view, she couldn’t wait to see the sunset over the trees and reflect on the lake, she just knew it would be breathtaking.
“Pretty isn’t it?” The voice that sent chills down her spine speaks from beside the bed.
“I’m not talking to you,” the blonde snaps causing Alex to chuckle as he takes his jacket off, desperate to get in more comfortable clothes.
“Listen, I’m…sorry for kissing you without your permission and the…other thing, it won’t happen again,” Alex promises Talia, he truly didn’t know what had overcome him at the funeral. But he just couldn’t resist tasting her plump lips, he regretted making the kiss so quick. Though he knew if he kissed the blonde again, he wouldn’t stop. As for his wandering hand, the only thing that stopped him from slipping his hand into her underwear to feel how wet she might have been was the fact she hadn’t given him a verbal go-ahead.
Yes, her body gave him the sign to keep going, but he needed to hear the plea from her cherry lips. He had been taught to never touch a woman without their verbal confirmation. He shouldn’t even have touched her thigh without her permission.
Talia bit her bottom lip to stop the smirk that was making its way onto her face as she turned to look at the brunette, who was unbuttoning his dress shirt. Talia had to refrain from squeezing her thighs together at the sight of the man’s abs poking out from the thin material, it was clear he worked out. A lot from what Talia could tell.
“You’re right, it won’t happen again,” Talia hums as she steps towards Alex who raises his eyebrow at the woman “Because if it does then I’ll tell my dad,” Talia threatens.
Alex found this amusing “You think you’re dad can beat me up?” He hums as he crosses his arms over his chest, his arm muscles flexing in the process.
“No,” Talia answers “But my brother might be able to,” she shrugs, as if on cue Owen comes back into the room.
“Catch,” he signals Talia before throwing her bag to her, she catches it with a smile. She can finally get out of this dress.
Alex looked between the two, he knew they weren’t related, so why call him brother? His thoughts drift from the thought as he looks at the trash bag in Talia’s right hand’s grasp as her left dug through it. He looked at Owen, he was doing the same thing as Talia with his own trash bag.
“Trash bags?” He questions glancing between the two blondes.
“Not everyone can afford a big house and nanny, Hollywood,” Talia teases with a smile as she fishes out some clothes and a small make-up bag.
She leaves the two men to go to the bathroom connected to their bedroom so she can change in peace.
She strips her dress off, her heels already in one of the corners of the room she was sharing with Owen and Alex.
She puts her blue denim raw edge shorts on that show off her long tan legs. Next, she threw on a white spaghetti strap tank top, fluffed her blonde hair a bit, and removed her makeup from the funeral adding a little mascara and cherry-tinted lip balm before deciding she looked decent enough.
She throws her dress into the hamper that was in the bathroom before opening the door to see Owen and Alex changed as well.
Owen wore loose-fitting cargo shorts and a tank top with some city in Florida on it while Alex wore blue jean shorts and a basic T-shirt. Awkward silence fills the room, none of them had a clue what to say to each other.
“Aren’t we just three peas in a pod,” Talia jokes as she plops on the bed, Alex crosses his arms over his chest and leans against the wall as Owen digs through his bag again.
He pulled out a small wooden box, one that Talia had recognized, the girl cracked a smile as Owen sat on the bed settling the box in his lap. He opens it and the strong, musky scent of the two young adults favorite plant fills the room.
Alex’s eyes widen as Owen pulls out a rolled joint and Talia grabs a lighter from the box. He has only ever seen marijuana one time, at a party back when he was in high school, his mother was against it and therefore he had grown to be against it.
“Are you two actually gonna smoke that?” He questions, stunned.
Owen and Talia give the man a weird look, what else where they gonna do with it?
“Well…yeah, it’s just a joint, it’s harmless” Owen shrugs as he puts the unlit joint between his lips.
“Harmless? That shit causes lung cancer you know,” Alex retaliates, he had learned that in a school assembly.
This causes Owen and Talia to look at each other and laugh, Alex’s face scrunches in confusion and slight annoyance.
“You’ve got it mixed up, dude,” Owen tells him.
“Yeah, you’re talking about nicotine, that shit will give you lung cancer, marijuana is a plant, it’s harmless,” Talia adds.
Alex shakes his head “You’re wrong,” he deadpans.
“Oh yeah? Where’d you get you’re info? Your little perfect private school with you’re perfect teachers and perfect students that could do no wrong in their parent’s eyes?” Talia snapped back, she knew it was wrong of her to bring social status and money into the argument but she couldn’t help it, she didn’t like people who were uneducated on a topic to make a fact on it and think that they were right just because they heard it from someone else.
Alex falls quiet, no one had ever snapped at him like that, his dad and mom did when he did something bad as a child, but that was it.
The sound of a chainsaw running is heard along with two voices egging the noises on. Alex knew instantly that it was his brothers.
Talia and Owen raise their eyebrows at the noise and watch as the oldest Fader son gets more agitated by the second. Alex wanted his brothers to have a taste of what a normal childhood was supposed to be like, so he took it upon himself to get his siblings. Owen and Talia watch as Alex storms out of the room. Being the nosy people they were raised to be, they follow, Owen puts the unlit joint back in the box, he would smoke it later.
Alex makes his way into the master bedroom, the two blondes following to see what he would do. The brunette pulls the TV cord out of the TV and snatches the controllers from his brothers who whine out in protest. Owen and Talia couldn’t lie, it was entertaining to watch the siblings argue.
“What’d you do that for!” Keithie cries.
“I was about to beat my high score!” Greg cries at the same time.
“You two need to go be normal kids for once, go outside and play tag, jump in the lake, hell at this point I’d be happy if you just laid in the grass,” Alex sighs.
Talia and Owen chuckle from their spot by the door as Lenny comes over.
“What’s going on?” He questions looking into the room.
“Your oldest is ripping Greg and Keithie a new asshole about being normal kids,” Talia responds
“Good it makes my job easier,” he walks into the room and throws both Greg and Keithie over his shoulders as he brings them outside.
The three young adults follow and watch as Lenny places them on the grass. “No more video games. No more cell phones. No more texting. Just from now on, while we’re here, stay outside and play.” Lenny tells his two youngest sons.
“What are we supposed to do?” Greg questions.
“Just play like normal kids. Come on, move it. Where’s Becky?” The rest of the dads, who were previously sitting on lawn chairs jump up rushing to get their children.
Talia, the group of dads, and their children make their way to the woods, she is near the back with Owen when she feels a small hand slip into hers.
She looks down to see the youngest Feder, Becky looking up at her with a shy smile “Am I allowed to hold your hand?” She questions.
Talia felt her heart swell at the little girl as she nodded “Of course, lovebug,” she hummed, the nickname bringing back old memories with her mother before she abandoned her.
Becky smiled and looked forward as they walked, Talia couldn’t help but stare at the small child. The blonde had never really been around small children, so having a little girl clinging to her was a new, yet warm, feeling. Talia had decided that she didn’t want children for fear she would hurt them the way her mother hurt her all those years ago. But right now she felt an urge to protect the small brunette beside her, like a mother would her daughter.
Alex smiled warmly as he noticed his sister and Talia holding hands as they walked. He wished he could see what Talia’s facial expression was but couldn’t as he walked behind the two, though he wasn’t minding the view of Talia’s ass peeking through her small shorts. She was the only girl he knew that could make slutty look cute.
Kurt’s voice pulls Talia from her thoughts and she looks forward again “Hey Greg, when we were kids, your dad used to talk us into doing the craziest stuff.” Kurt shares.
“That’s right,” Lenny confirms.
“Yeah, I remember one time, we, uh, got our shower curtains, put them in shopping carts, and went shopping cart sailing,” Kurt speaks causing Lenny to chuckle at the old memories.
“Wait, how did you steer?” Andre questions his father.
“Well we didn’t,” Eric answers.
“How’d you stop?” Greg questions.
“You just smashed into something. That was the fun part.” Lenny chuckles.
Talia had a faint memory of going shopping cart sailing for her sixth birthday with her father. The two were now permanently banned from the Walmart closest to their home and sent Owen out to do their shopping since the next closest Walmart was forty-five minutes away.
“We used to shoot bottle rockets at each other. You always go for the guy’s face because you wanna blind him.” Marcus speaks up.
Talia smacks the back of his head with her free hand “Too far,” she tells her father.
“No, no, I know. Kids, don’t do that. You know what, erase, reboot.” Marcus says making robotic moves.
“Look, look, make a tree fort. I’ll get you started,” Lenny speaks as he picks up a long tree branch.
“Rob lived in one of those for a year,” Eric tells the group.
“Why?” Greg questions.
“My dad took away my roller skates,” Robbie replies with a somber expression.
“Uh-oh Vietnam flashback,” Marcus speaks up causing Owen and Talia to chuckle earning a glance from Robbie to the three.
Lenny puts the tree branch on two trees his eyes catching something else. “Wait a minute are you kidding me?” The man exclaims as he makes his way to what he had his eyes on. Everyone followed, questioning what he was talking about until they saw it too. Rope on a tree.
Talia smiles, she would be the first to go, that she was sure of.
“Rope on a tree, baby. You know what that means.” Eric speaks up.
“We get to hang ourselves?” Charlotte questions.
“Nope, we get to make killer cannonballs,” Talia tells the girl as she releases Becky’s hand and makes her way to the front of the group. “Can I go first?” She questions kicking her flip-flops off.
“Go for it,” Lenny tells her holding the rope out to her. She grins and steps forward, grabbing it from him. “Get on the top rock,” Owen tells her and she does.
“Hey, we don’t know if that’s safe, or if it’s even latched to the tree right.” The eldest Feder son speaks up.
He was all for fun and games, but he didn’t want to see Talia get hurt, he didn’t know why he cared so much.
Talia yanks on the rope twice before shrugging “Seems fine, now stop being a pu-” she cut herself off as she looked at the children and cleared her throat “Stop being a prissy princess and let me have fun,” she tells the brunette with a grin.
Before he could reply she jumps, gripping the rope in her hands as she lets out a yell of joy.
Once she gets over the lake she lets go and pulls her legs to her chest as she hits the cold water.
Her hair floats around her and she opens her eyes, the freshwater causing them to sting as her steady heartbeat sounds in her ears, she couldn’t be more at peace.
She wished she could stay underwater forever, with no responsibilities, no drama, just her and the water around her.
Above the surface, the group was starting to get worried, “Why isn’t she coming up?” Charlotte questions.
The adults couldn’t answer “J-Just give her a minute,” Eric spoke up, though he was starting to get worried too, it had been a minute now.
Alex didn’t like to get wet. One thing growing up rich did to him was make him an insane hygiene freak. That lake water was probably nasty filled with god knows what. “Fuck this,” he mumbles before kicking his flip-flops off and running to the water, Owen and Marcus followed after. Alex and Owen were waist-deep after only a few steps and Alex stood at 6’2 while Owen stood at 6’3, so they weren’t necessarily short men. Marcus on the other hand stood at 5’7 and was almost chest-deep.
What worried them more was the fact Talia was 5’4, not too short, but if she had hit her head on a rock at the bottom it would to more difficult to find her. Owen ducks below the water and Marcus screams his daughter’s name, swiping his hands through the water, Alex doing something similar. Alex’s hand grabs a human wrist and in an instant, Talia is back above the surface.
Talia takes a giant inhale of air as she’s brought back up, Marcus lets out a sigh of relief as Owen comes above the water a sigh of relief coming from him too while Alex’s eyes scan over Talia. Everyone on the dry land instantly relaxes at the sight of Talia, alive and well.
“Are you hurt?” He questions her.
She shakes her head “You ruined my peace,” she grumbles more upset about that than the panda eyes she probably had from her mascara.
Alex couldn’t believe the girl. He had jumped into a nasty, leech-infested lake to save her just to find out that she was not only perfectly fine but also mad that he had ruined her peace underwater.
“So you’re telling me I just jumped into this nasty ass water for nothing?” Alex was stunned.
Owen and Marcus can’t help it, they bust into laughter and soon the other join in, even Talia.
The only one not laughing was Alex, who was waist-deep in nasty water, holding the woman he had “saved”.
Owen and Marcus climb out of the lake and collapse on the dryland “Hey, next time put a hand up so we know you’re alive, yeah?” Owen calls to Talia wringing his shirt out as the laughter dies down.
Alex looks the blonde up and down, her hardened nipples becoming visible through the white fabric of her tank top. The swell of her breasts became more defined as the clothing stuck to her skin, Alex almost wanted to throw his shirt over her’s so no one could see what he could see right now. Half the reason was that it was the right thing to do, and the other, was because he was a selfish person when it came to what he wanted. And what he wanted was Talia to himself.
She puts a thumbs up to Owen pulling Alex out of his thoughts, which was probably for the best. Alex pulls away from her scoffing “I can’t believe I just did that,” he voices as he makes his way back to shore. Honestly, his father couldn’t either, never has Lenny seen his son dive head-first into a body of water for a girl.
“Oh, I don’t think so Hollywood,” Talia jumps on his back, knocking him down face first into the water, Talia falling with him.
Alex reacts quickly and jumps back up picking Talia up so her left leg and left arm dangled on his chest and her body sits on his shoulders as he holds the squirming blonde down.
“Let me down asshat!” Talia exclaims.
“If you say so,” Alex lets her go and shrugs her body off his shoulders, Talia yelps as she plunges back into the water.
Alex goes to show and sits next to Owen and Marcus joining the two in wringing his clothing out, a disgusted look on his face.
Talia pops back up “Who’s next?” She calls to the others.
“You know what? Let me show you how it’s done,” Eric speaks walking towards Lenny who gives him the rope.
Everyone cheers him on as he climbs the top rock “Class is in session. Who wants to see a double flip?!” He exclaims before running off the edge, gripping the rope tightly.
Once he gets over the lake everyone screams for him to drop to which he replies “Too high! This was a mistake,”
As he comes flying back towards the woods Talia’s mouth drops as he hits a tree falling to the ground. She winces with every crunch and thud she hears, not able to see since there are bushes in her way.
“That was awesome!” Keithie exclaims.
“Oh god, oh god! My legs snapped. Oh my god, the bone’s sticking out. I need help!” Eric exclaims.
Talia looked away if she saw his bone sticking out she knew she would faint or throw up, maybe both.
“It’s a stick. I got ya!” Eric yells with a laugh causing Talia to breathe a breath of relief.
Talia climbs out of the water and everyone laughs when Becky speaks up. “Daddy that bird is hurt,” she points to a small bird that was on the forest floor, aggressively flapping its wing while the other wing wouldn’t move, chirping in fear.
“Oh my god, I’ll go get a shoe box,” Lenny runs back towards the lake house while the two Higgins’ go to Eric and the bird, Marcus to help Eric, and Talia to help the bird.
The blonde girl crouches down in front of the bird and cups him slowly and gently, immediately the bird starts to freak out more, the feeling of a human’s touch unfamiliar to the small creature.
Talia coos the animal and gently smooths its ruffled feathers, the bird starts to calm and Talia continues petting him as she scoops him up in her arms, careful of his hurt wing.
Alex was annoyed at the girl for making him jump in the water and for getting him and his clothes soaked, but right now he couldn’t help but smile as she held the small bird like it was an infant with delicate hands and a soothing voice. He wondered what she would look like as a mother if she would handle a child of her own with such care as she was that bird. He was almost positive she would make a great mother.
