The group made their way to the carriage while Alex and Talia made their way to his car. He claimed he had a surprise for the blonde and refused to tell her what it was.

“Alex, please tell me,” Talia begs, staring at the brunette with pleading eyes.

“No can do,” Alex replies his mouth twitching up into a smirk as Talia sighs dramatically and flops onto the seat.

Talia smirks, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she speaks “Any way I could convince you?” She hums, her hand slipping onto his thigh as she slowly trails it toward his groin.

Alex’s grip tightens on the steering wheel as he shifts in his seat “Don’t start something you can’t finish,” Alex warns the blonde.

“Who says I can’t finish?” She hums as she continues her way up, feeling his grow hard beneath her hand.

Alex lets out a soft groan. “If you don’t stop, I’m gonna pull over, bend you over, and fuck you on this car,” Alex tells her as he starts slowing down.

That idea got Talia excited until she saw someone pass them on the road and realized anyone could pass them while they were fucking; the blonde felt her cheeks heat up at the idea of someone catching them, and she would die.

Talia immediately moved her hand back on her lap and huffed. “Fine, asshat,” she grumbled, turning to look out her window.

Alex smirks, but it’s quickly erased as he is still painfully hard; he groans as he speeds back up.

โ€”โ€”

Alex had Talia put a blindfold on so she wasn’t able to see where they were going. He held her hips, guiding her so she didn’t bump into anything. He stops her and tells her to stay there; Talia waits, straining her ears to listen; all she can hear is the rustling of plastic and footsteps.

She hears Alex sigh. “Alright, take the blindfold off,” he tells her. Talia takes the cloth off her eyes and gasps when she sees Alex holding a bouquet of red wildflowers; behind him is the lake where the lakehouse sits with a canoe tied to a nearby tree branch.

“Alex…what is this?” she questioned as she walked towards him, he placed the bouquet in Talia’s hands.

“A little birdie told me you’ve never been on a date,” Alex explains, Talia immediately knew it was Owen. “I know this isn’t much, butโ€””

“No, it’s perfect,” Talia cuts him off, she wanted to cry. No one had ever put this much effort into something for her.

Alex smiles and takes her hand gently “After you,” he hums as he leads her towards the canoe.

Talia can’t stop the grin that plasters on her face as she steps into the canoe and sits down, Alex unhooks it from the tree branch and gets in, paddling them further out on the lake.

Talia looked up at all the stars, a smile on her face; it was a full moon tonight, so even in the dark, Alex could see Talia, her facial features defined in the moonlight.

Alex stops rowing, and Talia looks at him. “Didn’t take you for a romantic,” she grins.

“I wasn’t a lot of things, then I met you,” Alex tells her, Talia smiles as he takes her hand.

“Talia, you are the most stubborn, wildest, kindest, spontaneous person I’ve ever met and…I want you to come back to LA with me and be my girlfriend,” Alex speaks carefully, scared he’d been too straightforward.

Talia’s heart hammers in her chest. She doesn’t know what to say; she wants to say yes, but she can’t. She’d be leaving her father, her best friend, and everything she’d grown up by. She knew she wouldn’t fit in if she moved to Los Angeles. “Alex, I would love to be your girlfriend…but I can’t move to LA,” she whispers.

Alex nods “Then I’ll stay with you,” he suggests.

Talia shakes her head. “Lenny told me you’re starting a job next month in his company; I can’t be the reason you throw your future down the drain; I wouldn’t forgive myself,” She tells him.

Alex frowns and cups her face with his hands. “But a future you’re not in isn’t one I want,” he tells her.

Talia frowns and puts her hands over his “What kind of girlfriend do you think I’d be? I’m the one you want; I can barely cook, I’m not successful in any way, and I never will be. I’m not someone you need in your life.” She tells him she could physically feel her heart crack with each word.

“How do you know that’s not what I want?” Alex questions her.

Talia laughs softly, though it is hollow and sad because she thinks she is saying goodbye, “Because you’re a good guy, and I’m a stupid woman,” she tells him.

“Don’t say that about yourself,” Alex responds; he doesn’t think before he moves his hands off her face; he strips his shirt off and stands up as he strips his shorts off.

“Alex, what are youโ€”” Talia is cut off as he plunges into the lake water, Talia’s mouth drops open as a small laugh leaves her.

He resurfaces the water and inhales the air “This crazy and stupid enough for you?” He questions with a grin.

She shakes her head as she takes her tank top and shorts off, jumping into the water right at him, he catches her and holds her close to his chest.

She smiles up at him with the biggest smile he’s ever seen her have. “I like you just the way you are,” she tells him, “whether you have a stick up your ass or not,” she tells him as she wraps her arms around his neck.

Alex chuckles, pressing his forehead against hers “And I like you just the way you are. Crazy or not,” he hums.

“So we’re…dating?” Talia questioned; she felt her heart explode in joy when he nodded.

The blonde kisses him, and just then, fireworks start shooting off in the distance; Talia pulls away and raises an eyebrow. “I swear, I didn’t plan those,” he laughs as he looks at the fireworks with a smile.

The two struggle to get back in the boat and watch the fireworks till they’re gone; Alex turns to Talia and grabs his shorts, digging through them till he finds what he wants. He takes her hand and puts it in her palm, closing her fingers around it.

Talia’s face twists in confusion as she opens her palm, gasping when she looks down at a small silver ring with a red headstone.

“A promise ring,” he explains, grabbing the ring from her and gently grabbing her left hand. “I promise to always be there when you need me, long distance or not; I’ll always stay loyal to you. There’s no other girl I’d want to be my girlfriend than you. You are perfect in every way, Talia. Even if you don’t believe that yourself.” He tells her as he gently slips the ring onto her finger.

Talia was speechless. She looked down at the gorgeous ring and then back up at Alex as she nodded. “Okay, but I can’t take this,” she told him, gesturing to the ring.

“Why not?” Alex questions.

“It’s too much; I don’t want you spending money on me,” Talia tells him.

“I wanted to. Besides, it looks good on you,” he hums, pulling her onto his lap.

Talia sighs. “You’re not gonna take it back, are you?” She asks already knowing the answer.

Alex shakes his head with a smile “Nope,” he hums.

Talia laughs lightly, staring into her boyfriend’s eyes. Her. Boyfriend. He was her, and she was his, and neither wanted it any other way.

They made their way back to the shoreline and into Alex’s car; Alex had an early flight tomorrow, and Talia had a long drive.

The two go into the room they were sharing, and again, as expected, there is no Owen. The couple showered quickly and lay down on the bed pressed against each other, Talia’s face pressed into Alex’s chest so she could smell his cologne that brought her comfort while Alex had his head resting on the top of Talia’s so he could smell her warm cinnamon scent that he loved.

Alex Feder had never been more relaxed than this moment. Talia Higgins had never felt so loved than this moment. The two completed each other whether they realized it or not.
