—Bye Sean!
— Have a good night, Lena, bye Han. — The boy said once he got out of the car in which the couple had offered to take him home, more than anything Lena, she had liked the youngest. Han just nodded goodbye, not even looking at him.
— A “goodbye” was not going to make you lose your voice. — Lena complained when they moved away from the place where they had left the younger, Han looked at her for a second, clenching his jaw to continue driving even with his serious expression on his face. — Are you like this because of the Nissan? My God, how many cars have you let to be destroyed already?
— We made that together from scratch.
— We also did it with the Lancer, remember? And you gave it to Twinkie so that it would end up the same or worse than how Silvia ended. — Lena answered, finding it strange that he would get like this because of a car. — If you want us to rebuild it from scratch, we’ll do it… We did it with the lancer too, I don’t understand what the problem is.
—No problem, Lena, I’m just not in the mood, and seeing my wrecked car doesn’t brighten my day.
—Then you would have told me no. — She said, frowning. — When I took the keys from you, you would have told me no, as easy as that.
—Would you have stopped?
—Of course I would have, it’s your car… I would have given him mine in case I really wanted to see him race. — Han clenched his jaw like the steering wheel, not wanting to argue with the girl, he kept silent, focusing on the road, until they reached the workshop.
— I’ll be back a little late, don’t wait up for me.
— You go?
— I have something to do.
— At three in the morning? — She said incredulously, Han looked at her with tired eyes, she just huffed before taking the door keys and getting out of the car. — Do not go to dirty the leather of my seats. — She told him before closing the door and walking towards the workshop, Han saw her enter and close the door, when he was sure that the girl wouldn’t bother to follow him, he stepped on the accelerator again.
Making her upset would always be the easiest way for him to do things in total secrecy, Lena wouldn’t even bother to call him when she was in that state.
…
— I hope you had breakfast wherever you spent the night. — Lena’s voice was the first thing he heard when he entered the workshop early in the morning. — Because you’re not gonna find anything in the kitchen. — The girl finished, she was leaning under the hood of a car, what did he know, DK had taken her early that morning so that they could check it out and make the arrangements that he had requested.
Han sighed, running his hand through his hair, seeing how the girl got up to go directly to the tools sector, he ran to her, cutting her off. – Love.
— I have to work, DK wants it for tonight and no-
His arms wrapping around her body made her stop, the girl just sighed, not wanting to return the gesture, but his face rubbing on her neck as if it were a small kitten made her weak before that action. — I’m sorry… I don’t know… No, I do know what happened to me, I’m sorry I made you feel that way, upset, frustrated… I’m sorry.
– What happens then? — She tried to find an explanation, letting him separate from her, looking at him with sympathetic eyes. — And don’t say it was the car because I’m not going to believe you, you’ve done this for a year and you’ve never been like that.
—No, it’s not because of the car… It’s just…— Han looked at the girl’s brown eyes, noticing the glint of concern in them, swallowing hard, he just smiled a little, as if wanting to reassure her. — I had a problem with DK, you know, him and his stupid rich kid requests, he said some things I don’t want to remember and that put me in a bad mood… I’m sorry I took that bother with you, you had nothing to do with this.
Lena looked at him, noticing how he looked into her eyes as he spoke, smiling, she believed his words, I mean, Han would never lie to her looking into her eyes, right? He knew that he wasn’t 100 percent truthful all the time, but when he lied, he never did it face to face, he couldn’t do it while he was looking at her, he would immediately get nervous. —Okay… But you know I don’t like you staying out all night, whether I’m upset with you or not, come back home, okay?
Han smiled, and in fact, that was why he had decided to sleep in the car in a place far from the workshop, he didn’t like to go home when she was upset, mostly because she would sleep with her back to him, hugging a pillow and not him.
Han didn’t like the cold Tokyo mornings.
—Okay, I’m so sorry.
…
– Do you want to go with me? — Lena listened, she was leaving her room, already completely changed, they had both finished making some modifications to DK’s car, so they had taken a shower and changed. — I’ll pick up Sean, he has to pay me what he owes me.
— Han… You know he has no money. — She complained, seeing how he took the keys to his Mazda before approaching her.
—I won’t charge him with money… I’ll do it the way your brother would.
Lena raised an eyebrow before realizing what he meant. — You already saw how he left little Mona, the poor thing is not going to earn more than humiliation.
— Everything in this life requires a little humiliation to learn, love. — This one said, caressing her cold cheek. — Come on, it will be less uncomfortable if you go.
– Uncomfortable?
—Well, maybe I want you to go because you look beautiful right now and I want to show you off in front of pubescent students.— Lena laughed when she heard him being honest. — I’m not joking, a pretty girl with beautiful legs and a beautiful smile sitting on the hood of an orange Mazda, the hottest image I have ever imagined.
The girl smiled taking his face. — But you can see it every day you want.
— I call that a privilege, let’s make children a little envious, don’t you want that?
…
And they did, now Lena was sitting on the hood of Han’s orange car, she was eating a lollipop while looking at something on her cell phone, Han on the other hand, was leaning against her, his hand out of his pocket as he another had it on the girl’s leg, caressing it gently.
His mocking smile made Lena see that he was enjoying that situation, more than anything the moment he saw a boy fall off his bike for watching her so much.
Lena’s hand jerked, drawing Sean’s attention, who smiled before swallowing somewhat harshly as Han looked at him seriously, deciding to move closer to the older ones, he greeted Lena. – Get in – Han said seriously.
Lena rolled her eyes, knowing that he only wanted to intimidate the younger. – Han.
— Listen, I do want to give you your money back.
—Why do you talk like you have a choice? — Han let out fun, earning a soft hit from his girlfriend, she looked at him with warning, she didn’t want him to scare the poor boy.
-Just get in, Sean. — She ask before walking into the car, getting into the back seats.
Han gave the boy a look before climbing into the passenger seat. – Yes, it hurt. — This one complained to the girl, she shrugged.
– Stop scaring him. — She ordered him, giving him a mischievous look before they both saw Sean get into the car, starting to accelerate where Han indicated.
When they arrived at their destination, Lena lowered her cell phone, wanting to know why they were in a sauna. — There is a guy inside, he has a tattooed claw, he owes me money.
— A claw?
– Go get my money. — Han answered simply, making the boy get out of the car with confusion before returning, asking them how to say that in Japanese, the girl was going to answer him before Han did, the youngest opened her mouth before giving him a small hit his shoulder, scolding him.
— really? —The girl said, looking at him, the older one just laughed before opening the door, moving the seat to let the younger one out, helping her, he looked at her from head to toe, smiling. – What’s going on?
– It’s just that you look beautiful.
The girl smiled, leaving a soft kiss on his cheek before getting on the hood of the Mazda, Han next to her, took out a bag of chips, starting to eat them while they both waited patiently for the boy to come out.
And he did after a few minutes, Lena saw him fly out of the sauna, she raised her eyebrows, colliding with his, the girl smiled at him with some funny, not teasing, it just seemed funny to her how he had landed on his butt. The boy seemed to take that as a challenge, because he got up and went back into the room, however, it didn’t take him long to get out, and with him, a big man.
Lena knew that he was a heavy sumo wrestler, he came to the shop from time to time to make some improvements to his car, and also, he bought drugs from DK, when the girl caught the roll of bills, she didn’t know if she should keep it or if she should give it to Han.
Was it from drugs or from the workshop?
But seeing that Han didn’t ask her for the money, she stuffed it into her jacket pocket, getting off the hood to watch Han toss Sean the car keys.
The girl denied with a smile, walking towards the younger, she held out her hand, helping him get up. – Come on. — Han’s voice was heard, the girl smiled at the boy before walking so she could get back in the car.
Lena’s eyes dropped to her cell phone as a message flashed on her screen, rolling her eyes as she approached the front seats. —Shall we go with Takashi?
—Yes, is something wrong?
— No, he’s just bothering asking where we are. — The girl huffed, leaning back in the car before thinking about what the Asian wanted, cursing, she opened her eyes. — Sweetheart, can you drop me off at the workshop?
—Aren’t you going with us? — Han asked with confusion, she always went with him to meetings with Takashi, apparently, she was the only person, besides him, that he liked to have there to talk business.
He never understood why, Lena never paid attention to their talks either, she was just there in case some argument came up and she had to hit Morimoto, her favorite hobby.
— I have to take the car to Takashi. — Lena said, lowering her cell phone. Han nodded, telling Sean to drive to the workshop. Once there, Han went down so the girl could get out of the Mazda, helping her out, he hugged her around the waist, leaving a soft kiss on her lips. —Yeah, you’re going to be late.
—I don’t care, give me another kiss.— Han’s lips stretched, the girl smiled, kissing him before pulling away.
—Go,— the girl ordered before leaning in a bit. —See you, Sean.— She said goodbye to the boy, who also greeted her before seeing her disappear.
—Come on, we don’t have all day.— Han said, making the boy start the car again, starting and accelerating through the busy streets of Tokyo.
— You and Lena… You seem to love each other very much.
— Do we look like?
— Ah, I don’t know, you look like that typical couple from the movies, the ones who have been together for many years and that… — The youngest said, looking at the road.
— We have known each other for a long time. — Han released, looking at the road too, with a smile.
—You love her a lot, it seems…— Han shared a look with Sean, not understanding his assumption. — Your eyes, they have a different look now.
— I know. — Han said, nodding. —It’s what she causes. You will know when you find a girl that you love in the same way.
— In the same way that you love Lena?
— Exactly.
…
Lena’s steps in the arcade were fast and precise, she had had to give Takashi’s car some final repairs, it had taken longer than she had thought.
Han’s car wasn’t even there anymore, so she knew the meeting was over.
The girl knocked on the door, which was at the end of the dark corridor, opening a second later, she ran into a DK sitting at a desk while writing something on a piece of paper and next to him was a morimoto.
— Cute gaijin… — Lena decided to ignore him, as she always did, of course, after that incident where she broke his nose and DK almost put a bullet in her head, the girl had decided to ignore him, she had already shown him that she wasn’t afraid of Takashi’s gun pointed at her.
— Your car is in the garage.— Lena said, tossing the Nissan keys to Takashi, who caught them in the air as he looked at her with a mischievous smile. —Pay Han, bye. — She said, turning around before her steps were stopped by a voice.
— Lena. Stay, I have something to talk to you about. — The girl turned around, looking at Takashi with a raised eyebrow before seeing Morimoto, who gave DK a confused look before walking out of the room, walking past the girl, smirking at her as he pass his tongue for his lips.
Boy, she want to rip that tongue out of his mouth.
When the door closed, Lena’s eyes looked at Takashi seriously. —I think you already know what I’m going to say.
—I don’t kill people, Takashi. — The girl said, crossing her arms, the asian smiled, getting up from his place, taking the Nissan keys with him.
—I don’t need you to kill anyone for me. — He said, approaching her, until he was centimeters from her face. — I want you to run.
Lena looked at him for a second, letting out a mocking laugh. —Please, DK asking me to run for him? Anything that scares you Takashi?
The Asian stared at her for a second, he had always wondered what Han was looking at in Lena, and it wasn’t until the girl managed to reach the end of the mountain so feared by all runners in Japan, that he knew what it was.
She was brave.
Too much.
— My uncle will be here in a few days, his men began to arrive and control me, even, the time I go to the bathroom… I can’t leave in my own car because they follow me… I just need you to run against someone.
— The last time you asked me this, it involved someone dead, and I’m not going to murder someone… Much less if it’s a drug addict who owes you money.
—He owes me more than money, Lena.— Takashi said. — Even owes something from Han… You’re not going to kill him, not you, I just want you to get him out of the way, the rest… I’ll do that.— The older one looked at her.
—Does Han know you’re asking me to do this?
—Why he would need to know? It’s a job I’m offering to you, not to him. — He shrugged. — And he doesn’t have to find out, it will be a silent race, it will only be me, Morimoto, you and that idiot… What do you say?
— You know I don’t like to run without motivation. What do you have to give me in exchange for helping you with the drug addict?— Lena asked with wide, innocent eyes, staring at him.
—What do you want? Tell me, and you will have it.
— Anything?
—Anything.
…
Lena was with the others, sitting next to Han in that old chair near a river, where the older had taken Sean to practice his drifting.
According to him, he had to pay for the Nissan, piece by piece, so his only way to make him pay was to make it run for him.
But the boy needed practice, too much.
That’s why everyone, Reiko, Earl and Twinkie, were there, watching as Sean started to destroy the nice red car that Han had given him to race. – Are you okay?
Lena looked away from the river a few meters from them when she heard Han’s voice next to her, blinking, she looked at him carefully, noticing the confused look that he had on his face. – Sorry?
– What happen? – Han asked this time, looking at her strangely. – You’ve been very quiet.
— I’m just a little sleepy, I didn’t sleep well last night. — She shrugged, wanting to downplay the matter, but Han didn’t believe her one bit, the girl had slept like a baby the night before.
—You know I don’t like you lying to me. — The girl looked at him, and in fact, she was lying to him.
In her head, only Takashi’s offer was repeated, not that Lena needed money or anything like that, but she needed adrenaline, she needed to drive a car and risk dying in the attempt, she needed that spark in his life.
That spark she was used to.
Spark what had promised, along with Han, to leave. And it’s not like she was regretting the decision she made with the Asian, but sometimes, even a quiet life needed some spark. Lena had said yes to Takashi, and it wasn’t the action that made her overly thoughtful, it was Han’s reaction.
The girl hadn’t planned to tell him, but she knew he would find out somehow, he always does. According to Takashi, it would just be a race, for the girl to hit the car enough to make it go off the lane and then go home like nothing happened.
It was simple. An easy job and without much trouble.
But for Lena, that single action made her feel guilty because she had broken that promise to have a peaceful life with the man by her side.
—I’m not lying to you, I’m tired. — The girl said, before hearing a loud bang, seeing the red car stop after hitting a large load of wood. —I don’t want you to hurt him.
—It will not. — Han said, leaving the subject of the girl behind, but still with the feeling that she was hiding something from him, to then see Sean, who got out of the car and looked at them with innocent and doubtful eyes.
Lena smiled, giving the boy a thumbs up before listening to Twinkie. — Stop lying to him like that, Lena, he sucks.
— Yes, but I won’t tell him to his face.
