The night ended perfectly, with her in my arms. It was almost 4:20 a.m., and we knew it was time to leave. We definitely didn’t want her family or anyone else to find out about us.
Everything tonight had gone just as planned. I had arranged everything but kept it simple because I knew she liked silence. Just the two of us, no distractions. A quiet, beautiful date.
Her head was still resting on my shoulder as she watched Veer-Zaara, completely lost in the movie. Meanwhile, I was watching her.
‘My poor boy at least focused on the movie,’ my brain teased me.
Shut up brain.
As the movie neared its end, her eyes filled with tears. A single tear slipped down her cheek, and I gently wiped it away. Instead of pulling back, she snuggled into me even more.
I didn’t say anything, and she remained glued to the screen. Even after the movie ended, she didn’t move.
Then, she pulled the blanket tighter around herself, and I realized why-the window was open, and the cold air from the rain was making her shiver. I quickly adjusted the blanket around her shoulders. But instead of moving away, she nestled even closer.
And then, her head rested on my chest.
‘Error. Looks like system overload inside the Vihaan Raichand’s body,’ my brain dramatically muttered.
My heart started racing like crazy.
She placed her hand on my chest and whispered in low voice, “Your heart is beating fast.”
Act casual, Vihaan. Stay calm.
I cleared my throat.
“It’s because of the cold. I’m shivering,” I said, pretending to be normal.
Nice try.
She chuckled softly, then-out of nowhere-started tracing her fingers along my jaw.
‘Vihu baby, just breathe normally. Don’t act weird,’ my brain remind me, trying to calm my senses.
The hell-I’m not breathing at all.
Her touch was featherlight, but it sent a storm through my body. A shiver ran down my spine as her fingers moved down my jaw, trailing toward my neck. I sucked in a deep breath, closing my eyes. The gentleness of her touch was messing with my entire nervous system.
Then she realised something and started pulling away.
Why?
I slipped my hand around her waist and pulled her back.
“Where do you think you’re going after pulling a stunt like this?” I smirked.
And just like that, the bold Ruh disappeared, and the shy one returned.
She cleared her throat and muttered, “I think we should go…..”
I pulled her even closer.
“Go where?” I teased.
She tried again, “I mean, we should…”
But before she could finish, I tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, my fingers brushing against her soft cheek. She inhaled sharply, her breath quickening.
We were so close now. As I leaned in, our breath mingled with each other. My thumb softly caresses her cheeks. And then-
Ring.
Who the hell dares to call at this time?!
Ruh quickly pulled away, and the atmosphere was instantly ruined, laced with an awkwardness.
“Your phone?” I sighed
She shook her head, “It’s yours.”
I frowned and searched for my phone as i looked at the screen.
Varun.
Video call.
You better have a damn good reason, Varun.
I answered, and the first thing I saw was Varun sleeping.
He Was Asleep. And He Called Me. Seriously.
Before I could speak, he mumbled, “Good morning, Aashu baby…”
I cringed so hard I wanted to throw my phone out the window.
‘Don’t blame him. You became super cringe too after falling in love. Huh, double standard,’ my brain teased.
Ruh stuffed a laugh, clearly enjoying this.
I rolled my eyes and mimicked, “Good. Morning. Varun. Baby.”
Varun squinted at me, confused, then suddenly his eyes widened in horror, “What the f-“
“Don’t you dare to utter next word! No cursing in front of my Ruh,” I cut him off.
And that’s when I realized.
Ruh was staring at me. Hard.
I am gone. Please remember me in your prayers.
She smacked her forehead. I mouthed sorry, but she glared at me like I just doomed myself.
Varun, now fully awake, frowned, “Wait…are you with Ruhanika right now? What the hell are you doing with her at this time?”
Before I could say anything, Ruh, who hadn’t come into view-spoke in a sharp tone, “Varun, may I ask why you are calling my sister at this hour?”
Varun scratched his head, now looking nervous,”Uh… I just wanted to talk to her?”
Ruh’s voice was sharp, “At this time?”
Varun ignored her and turned his attention back to me, “Oh come on, Vihaan. Give the phone to Ruhii. We’re talking here”
I glared at him.
“Tere paas koi kapde-wapde nahi hain? Pehle jao aur shirt pehno, then you are allowed to talk to my Ruh. chii, sharam lihaz kuch bhi nahi hai,” I muttered dramatically.
(Do you have clothes? At least put on a shirt first! Then you are allowed to talk to my girl. Have some shame)
He just rolled his eyes in response but finally put on a t-shirt.
I handed the phone to Ruh, and the moment she appeared on screen,
Varun started questioning her, “Ruhii, why are you with Vihaan so late at night?”
And just like that, they started arguing.
TWENTY CENTURIES LATER-
After all the back and forth, we finally told Varun about our relationship and, Most Importantly, My Stupidity
“I was calling Aashika I don’t know how the hell I called him, because this is usually the only time we can talk. Otherwise, her classes start early in the morning, mine go on till the evening, and at night…..well, don’t even get me started on her family,” he explained.
Ruh nodded as if she understood his frustration.
“Ruhii, Aashika is calling. I’ll talk to you later. Take care,” Varun said before turning to Vihaan with a stern look.
“And you, Vihaan Raichand, remember we are going to have a long-a long talk,” His tone was almost threatening.
Yeah, he definitely found out about my stupid stunt that ended up hurting Ruhii. And i know how he cares for her.
You are completely doomed.
Ruh handed me my phone, and I pulled her closer, a mischievous grin on my face.
“So, should we continue what we were doing?” I teased.
She blushed but quickly cleared her throat.
“I think…we should…um…go. It’s almost five,” she stuttered.
I chuckled at her flustered expression and pressed a soft kiss on her forehead.
After a moment, a question that had always lingered in my mind finally slipped out, “I have a doubt-why didn’t Varun confess his feelings to Aashika himself? And why did you tell him she said yes on the annual day?”
Ruh sighed before explaining, “Aashika is my cousin-my bua’s daughter-technically my bua is also my father’s cousin. But her family is… complicated. Toxic, actually. Her grandmother is an absolute nightmare. Dadu always tells me to respect elders not to say anything bad words, but honestly, that woman is like the devil’s sister.”
“Aashika’s bua ran away with the man she loved because their family didn’t approve-he was from a middle-class background. Her grandmother was furious and became even stricter with the rest of the girls in the family. She practically kept Aashika locked up-put her in an all-girls school, took away her phone, and wouldn’t even let her step out of the house. My dad, dadu, and Kunal bhai tried to help, but what could they do when Aashika’s own mother wouldn’t let her live freely?”
I listened carefully as she continued.
“Varun has liked Aashika since childhood. They first met at my fifth birthday party. Back then, I lived in Mumbai, and Varun was my only friend.”
“Aashika came with her family that one time, and even though Varun was just a kid, he developed a huge crush on her,” She chuckled.
“I can only imagine how he must have felt,” I said as I can totally understand his feelings.
“But then, Aashika moved abroad. After moving there, three years later, when her bua ran away, her grandmother lost it completely. Aashika suffered because of it. Varun had no way to contact her, but his feelings for her never changed.”
“When we met again, the first thing he asked about was Aashika. It’s not like he didn’t try to find her, but he had no way to reach her. And when he finally did, he wanted to confess before his final exams. But the only way to get to her was through me.”
“Aashika was hesitant. She was terrified of her grandmother. So when Varun tried to meet her and confess, she rejected him. He was heartbroken, but he was sure she was not telling the truth. And Aashika was regretting it, which is why she recorded a voice message for him and gave it to me. And I met him on our annual day, I told him yes– which actually means that my sister loves him. And i am happy for my sister as she finally gets into her dream college and finally away from her toxic family just because of her chachu.”
And that’s when I realized just how much of an idiot I had been. At this point, drinking phenyl seemed useless. Should I try cyanide instead?
To hell with your thoughts, Vihaan.
“But you know,” Ruh said, glaring at me slightly, “you were the dumbest person in this whole love story. Idiot. At least you should’ve talked to me first, dumbo. You made me cry, and you hurt yourself too!” She smacked my arm in frustration.
I sulked.
“Okay, okay, I admit I was stupid. No need to remind me again,” I muttered, scratching the back of my head in embarrassment.
She chuckled, “Now don’t make that face. Smile! You got me as your girlfriend. You should be proud.”
I smiled, “Of course. And I’ll always be grateful to be your boyfriend, Meri Ruh.”
She giggled as I held her hand, “Now, let’s go before your two overprotective khadus men start planning my burial.”
I helped her onto my bike, making sure she wore her helmet, and then we headed back.
After reaching her house, I helped her climb up to her balcony, waiting until she locked the door behind her before leaving.
I tiptoed into my house, holding my breath.
Mission successful.
Nobody saw me. If anyone had caught me sneaking in at this hour, I would have been dead meat.
I quietly opened my room door and-
“What the F-“
“Careful with your words, Mr. Raichand,” I heard mom’s dangerous tone.
I almost had a heart attack.
There, my mom sitting in my room.
“You scared the hell out of me, Mom,” I clutched my chest dramatically.
She raised an eyebrow, her arms crossed, “So, you finally decided to come home. May I know where exactly you were?”
“Nowhere…just went for a walk,” I lied as calmly as possible.
Her glare intensified. She stood up.
“Vihu, how many times have I told you not to pull these stunts! And why are you disturbing Ruhanika? I know for sure this entire adventure was your idea!” she huffed, twisting my ear slightly.
“Oww, Mom! Haww, I’m your own son, how can you think like this?!” I whined, rubbing my poor ear.
“I literally took her permission! And I took care of everything! I’m a responsible man now!
I plopped down on the bed, but then a thought hit me.
“Wait… how do you even know about the date?” I squinted at her.
She smirked.
“I have my own sources,” she said, crossing her arms smugly.
My jaw dropped.
“Maasi?” I yelled, realization hitting me on the face.
Her teasing smirk widened.
Betrayal- how can she betray her favourite nephew.
I should have known! My maasi and mom together are like CID officers. I thought Maasi would keep my secret, but no-she’s the elder sister of my mother. Smarter, deadlier.
“You two sisters can’t keep any secrets,” I huffed dramatically.
She just chuckled, enjoying my misery.
“Accha, how was your date?” she asked casually, but then her eyes narrowed.
“I hope you didn’t cross any limits? You didn’t make Ruhanika uncomfortable, right? Listen, Vihu, I’m warning you….”
Before she could continue, a loud voice interrupted.
“Adhya Jiii!”
My dad called her.
He cannot survive a single hour without Mom. Just like I can’t survive without my Ruh.
I smirked, mimicking his dramatic tone, “Jaaiye, Adhya jiiiiiiii!”
(Go on, Adhya jiiii)
Mom slapped my arm.
“Hatt besharam!” she scolded, but she was blushing.
(Shameless boy)
I laughed.
“Don’t worry, Mom. The date went well. I took great care of Ruhanika. See? I’m such a responsible guy now!” I grinned proudly.
She gave me The Look.
“And now, since I’ve proven my maturity, please don’t tell Dad about this…just pleaseeeeee!” I added quickly.
She huffed but finally let me go.
Phew. Saved.
I collapsed onto my bed, sighing in relief.
Finally, I could sleep in peace. And with this I went to Ruhland.
β’β’β’β’β’
Right now, I’m sitting in class, staring at the empty seat in front of me, I am missing Ruh.
She’s off attending a cabinet meeting since she’s the Cultural Head. I swear, being left behind sucks. The last few days were going so well, but now I’m stuck here, bored out of my mind.
The last time we properly spent time together was during our school picnic. And honestly? It was amazing.
We had fun at the amusement park, but the real highlight was the evening when we visited a nursery. The atmosphere was just perfect-peaceful, colorful beds of flower, and filled with fresh air. But the best part? Ruh.
We had our secret tiny date for half an hour, but it felt like an eternity. We sat on the grass for a painting date, and let me tell you-we are both horrible at painting.
We challenged each other to draw scenery, but in the end, all we did was laugh at our disaster-level artwork.
Turns out, being biology students, our only drawing skill is limited to making diagrams for marks.
But even with our terrible drawings, Ruh’s was still better than mine. Not fair.
Lately, we barely get time together. Exams are coming up, and she’s even busier with her college entrance preparation. She’s stressing too much, and I don’t want that. I even gave her a full motivational speech about it, but knowing her, she’ll still worry.
And let’s talk about something else-Ruh is getting mischievous day by day. She usually has this calm, composed nature, but with me? She lets out this playful, teasing side that no one else sees.
And honestly? It’s hot. I love it. She flirts with me in a way that leaves me speechless, and for the first time in my life, I feel shy.
“Kyu nayi naveli dulhan ki tarha sharma raha hai?” Yash teases, scrunching his nose in fake disgust.
(Why are you getting shy like a new bride?)
I roll my eyes and fix my collar.
“It’s been only one lecture since she left. Why the hell are you staring at her seat like a creep?” Siddharth shakes his head, unimpressed.
Before I can respond, Yash smirks. “So, when were you planning to tell us about your relationship?”
Siddharth, who had been half-asleep, suddenly sits up, adjusting his glasses, “Yes, when?”
I clear my throat, trying not to look flustered, “Tell you what? You both already know.”
“Yeah, but we only figured it out because you’re making it so obvious with your lovesick puppy behavior,” Yash points out.
Siddharth crosses his arms dramatically, “Ye thi teri dosti! Tune hume is kaabil bhi nahi samjha ki hume is baare me bata sake? Kya zamana aa gaya hai dost-dost se baatein chupa rha hai…..Kamine insaan! Hamne saath me decide kiya tha-NO Relationships- we will stay single and will play music all the life!”
This Drama Clown!
I shake my head, suppressing a grin, “I couldn’t help it. I fell in love with my Ruh.”
The two idiots immediately start teasing me, “Ahhnnnnnn, Ruuuuhhhh” they sang in unison.
I put my head down on the table as i cant control smiling like a fool.
Before I can throw my book at them, the bell rings.
Finally.
And just like magic, Ruh walks in.
The second I see her, my heart does an embarrassing little flip. She smiles at me, and suddenly, everything feels right again. But before I can go sit with her, some guy-our Vice Cultural head-calls out her name.
I watch as they talk, feeling irrationally annoyed. From last few days I am noticing this guy always gluing to my Ruh.
After what feels like an eternity, he finally leaves, and Ruh takes her seat with Tanya and Vani. I sigh dramatically. Of course, those two devils won’t let me steal her away.
But then-disaster strikes.
Mom walks in.
No way. It’s Chemistry period?
I force myself to focus, knowing if I don’t, I’ll have worksheets waiting for me at home. Somehow, I survive the lecture, trying so hard not to lose the focus.
But now, I’m in Biology class, and let me tell you-I regret taking this subject with every cell in my body.
The slides, the diagrams, the labels-it’s all a mess. My brain feels like it’s about to short-circuit.
“Go to hell, stupid slide,” I mutter under my breath, glaring at the tiny pollen grains. First, they appear, then they vanish into thin air.
My mom had warned me to go with Mathematics only. But no, I had to be adventurous. And now here I am, suffering with this stupid subject.
“What happened? Ye muh kyu fulaya hai?” Ruh’s voice suddenly cuts through my misery.
I look up, and there she is, peeking at my slides.
“I give up. This is torture.” I dramatically drop my head onto the table.
She shook her head, “Let me help.”
I follow her to her seat. As expected, she’s chosen a quiet corner-she always does, even if it has terrible lighting. She loves silence.
“First, dust the pollen grains and stain it properly,” she instructs.
I do as she says.
“Itna toh aata hai,” I sighed.
(I know this much)
“Now, put the slide and adjust the microscope.”
I try. I really try. But the slide is still blank.
She sighs and leans in, adjusting the focus herself.
And that’s when it happens.
Before I can react, she slides beside me, her body barely an inch from mine. And then-her hands slip over mine, her fingers curling around my wrists, guiding them to the microscope’s knobs.
And my poor heart? Gone. It’s practically doing salsa in my ribcage.
She’s never been this close to me before-not in school.
My brain short-circuits.
“Vihaan, focus,” she scolds, completely unaware of my internal chaos, that my heart is making.
How am I supposed to focus when my girlfriend is practically breathing next to me?
“Still blank?” she murmurs, tilting her head, her lips just inches from my cheek.
I don’t even check.
“Yeah…completely blank,” I whisper back.
She sighs in exasperation and leans closer, her shoulder pressing into mine, “Vihaan, stop being distracted and look.”
I force my gaze away from her to the microscope. The slide is crystal clear now.
But who cares about pollen grains when she’s this close?
She pulls away, “See? That wasn’t so hard.”
I lowered my head, heat creeping up my neck.
Correct, you have no idea how hard it was for me to control my jumping heart inside my body.
She narrows her eyes, “you did pay attention, right?”
“Vihaan?” She crosses her arms, raising an eyebrow.
“Hnn?”
“Did you actually pay attention to what I did?”
I nodded-Of course not.
“Then tell me what I did.”
Without thinking, I blurted out, “You touched my hand.”
Her eyes widen, and I realize what I just blurted out.
She smacks her forehead, “Where were your focus?”
I grin sheepishly, “On you.”
She glares. I can tell she wants to strangle me. But then, to my absolute delight, I see the lightest shade of pink dusting her cheeks.
Beautiful.
“Offo kya karu main tumhara?” she mutters, shaking her head.
And to add to her frustration, I smirk and muttered in a cheesy tone.
“Aap bas pyaar karo mujhse, baaki sab main kar lunga,” I winked at her.
Her glare intensifies, but I know she’s blushing now.
“You…you…nevermind! Just do it again before Ma’am comes and asks about your slides!” She turns away, flustered and I chuckled looking at her.
Before I can tease her more, Tanya calls her name, and she walks away.
I sigh, looking at my microscope.
Guess I should actually finish this now.
But before I can, I hear a loud Thud.
I looked at Yash as he casually handed me his file, a smirk plastered on his face.
“Remember the assignment you have to complete?” he asked, the clown smirk plastered on his face.
I replied with some very colorful words.
“Do it in good handwriting,” he added, fully enjoying his moment of power.
Oh, the joy of friendship. This guy was taking full advantage of the fact that I had asked him to save a seat for Ruh at our match. And now, here I am, stuck doing his work.
Of course, I wanted the best seat for Ruh-so she could feel comfortable and enjoy the match.
But this guy? He was just making sure I suffered.
I’ll get my revenge.
As soon as the bell rang for recess, chaos broke loose. Everyone bolted toward the ground like their lives depended on it. I noticed Yash staring at something-or rather, someone.
I followed his gaze and found Tanya deep in conversation with our head boy. They looked close.
“Staring at her like that just makes you look creepy,” I muttered.
He rolled his eyes but didn’t stop staring. Unbelievable.
“As if you don’t stare at Ruhanika,” he shot back, stuffing his hands into his pockets.
I smirked.
“Didn’t someone once tell me, ‘Don’t keep everything inside in your heart, just say it before it’s too late’? Maybe try taking your own advice?”
“What are you trying to say?” He frowned.
I sighed, shaking my head, “You always tell people to handle everything before it’s too late. Try to apply this advice to yourself before it actually gets late.”
“You are annoying,” he muttered, still staring at Tanya, but this time, there was a hint of jealousy instead of anger.
With a deep sigh, he grabbed his file and walked away toward the ground. This guy, I swear.
At the Canteen we sat down to eat, I noticed something.
“Where’s Yash?” Tanya asked, scanning the area.
“You sit and eat. I don’t think he is joining us anytime soon,” Sid muttered, clearly irritated.
I had already told Sid about the incident, and while he was usually the calm and logical one, he was a little mad at Yash today. Siddharth was one of those rare people who actually thought before acting. He knew exactly how to handle any situation but he is just a little dumb.
Ruh raised an eyebrow at me in silent question, but I just shook my head. No need to add unnecessary stress.
Noticing Tanya’s mood shift, Vani and Ruh smoothly stepped in and changed the topic. So I simply ate in silence with Sid.
After lunch, we decided to take a walk. The temptation to hold Ruh’s hand was real, but I controlled myself.
She walked over to a bench, eyes twinkling with mischief.
“Hiiiiii!” she greeted dramatically.
I turned to see a little kid sitting there.
Chutku.
“Hii Ruhii ji,” he chirped, stuffing a jam paratha into his mouth before launching himself at her.
“Careful, Raj!” Ruh said, catching him.
And just like that, they started chatting forgetting my existence.
“Hiiiiiiiiii,” I dragged out my greeting, trying to steal some attention.
Chutku glanced at me, scrunching his nose and muttered a half-heartedly, “Bye bhaiya,” before turning back to Ruh.
Itni beizzati.
‘Lagta hai ab aapki kismat me hi chote baccho se beizzat hona likha hai,’ my brain mocked me.
(This much insult)
(Looks like it’s your fate to be humiliated by little kids now)
I Royally ignored my brain’s comment.
Ruh sat beside him, while I just stood there, completely ignored.
“You both will not come to school after this month, right?” Chutku asked, eyes wide with curiosity.
“No, we’ll be taking admission to college, after we will give our final exams,” Ruh explained.
“Wow, phir toh aap sabke maze hi maze, subha subha jaldi nhi utha padega,” he asked, visibly impressed.
(Wow, then you guys will.have fun, and no more waking up early)
Innocent little demon. Someone needs to tell him that the real nightmare starts after school.
But let him enjoy his peace for now. Sooner or later, he’ll learn how worst growing up is. We’re just trying to relive the childhood again and again.
“By the way, why were you sitting here alone looking so sad?” Ruh asked, ruffling his hair.
“I am participating in the annual day play!” he said proudly, his eyes shining.
“Oh wow, What’s the play about?” Ruh asked, her excitement was evident.
“It’s, The Greedy Kingdom,” he said.
“You know, Simran is playing the princess,” he added, sipping on his juice.
I smirked, “Ohhh, let me guess-you’re the prince?”
Chutku’s face fell, “No…Teacher made someone else the prince.”
Oops! Poor guy.
Ruh tried to console him, “That’s okay baccha! What role did you get?”
Chutku took a deep breath and whined, “Mujhko toh mendak bana diya.”
(They made me a frog)
And I lost it.
I burst out laughing.
A Tiny Demon Playing A Tiny Frog.
This is going to be epic.
“Now you can finally go ‘trrr trrr‘ all day long!” I teased, clutching my stomach.
Chutku glared at me, “Bhaiya, mat hasiye. Langoor lag rahe hain aap.”
(Stop laughing, you look like a monkey)
Ruh gave me a deadly glare and muttered, “Say sorry.”
Sigh.
The things I do for her only.
“Sorry,” I mumbled.
Chutku instantly beamed, his frown flipping into a mischievous grin.
“You’ll look adorable, baby,” Ruh assured him.
“Just do your best. I’ll come to the annual function to watch you.”
And just like that, this tiny demon puffed up with pride like he had just won a remote control car.
Right then, Tanya and Vani arrived, looking for Ruh. And guess what?
Chutku, the little charmer, had them wrapped around his tiny fingers in seconds.
“Aww, you’re so cute!” Vani cooed.
Chutku, shyly smiled, “Aap bhi bohot pyaari ho.”
(You’re also very pretty)
Vani melted. Tanya giggled. Ruh shook her head in amusement.
Me? I just walked away to a tree, watching them fawn over the tiny frog prince.
At that moment, Yash and Siddharth finally appeared.
“Where were you? We’ve been looking everywhere for you!” Yash said.
I crossed my arms, “Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that?”
Yash sighed dramatically, “Please, Vihaan. I just needed a nap. I was in the backyard.” He ran a hand through his hair.
Sid, meanwhile, had his focus elsewhere, “Who’s that?” he asked, pointing at Chutku.
I muttered in irritation, “Little demon.”
Sid, ever the calm one, simply observed the scene. His eyes briefly flickered to Vani, who was still laughing at something Chutku said.
Yash scoffed, “Is it just me, or is that tiny guy getting way too much attention?”
I sighed, “Oh, it’s not just you.”
Sid exhaled slowly, “he is just a child, Vihaan.”
Yeah just a child. I rolled my eyes at him.
Sid didn’t respond immediately, but I caught the slight tightening of his grip on his watch strap, as he is continuously talking to Vani in his little bit gibberish language.
Yash folded his arms in irritation, “Fantastic. Just fantastic. I crack jokes all the time. Do I get giggles? No. I get ‘Yash, shut up’ and ‘Yash, you’re annoying.’ But this tiny insect? One compliment, and suddenly, he becomes s the main character?”
Sid, who had been quiet, finally spoke, his voice unnervingly calm, “How long are we supposed to let this go on?”
I blinked, “Sid…are you actually jealous?”
Sid adjusted his watch, “I’m just asking a question, Vihaan.”
Yash gasped, “Gosh. He is just asking a question….a question Vihaan.”
Sid cleared his throat, “Forget it you both male witches.”
Yash and me burts into laughter.
After our laughing session, we sighed. Because this is going to be a long recess.
Why the hell they didn’t rang the bell yet. Other time they just finish our lunch in just half an hour.
And just like that, recess passed with all of us sitting there, looking at the little tiny frog taking the princess all attention.
But he is cute. Tiny Frog Prince.
Nevermind.
That was just a joke.
β’β’β’β’β’
“Vihu!” Mom’s voice rang through the backyard just as I knelt down, dirt clinging to my fingers.
“Jii?” I called back, focused on the seeds in my hands.
“Did you fill out the university form?” she asked.
I sighed. “Not yet.”
“Vihu,” she warned, stepping closer. “You can study at the university where Prisha did. What’s the need to-“
“Mom, we already had a long discussion about this,” I cut in, wiping my hands.
She eyed me for a moment before sighing, “Fine. But don’t forget to fill it out.”
“I won’t. I just need to gather the documents first,” I reassured her.
Her gaze dropped to the seeds in my hands. “What are you doing?”
“Planting White Orchids,” I muttered, gently placing the seeds.
She asked, her tone laced with curiosity, “Since when did you start gardening?”
I muttered under my breath, avoiding her gaze, “Since I got to know she loves this flower, I guess.”
She crossed her arms, “You can’t even take care of yourself, and you think you can take care of this small flower?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to take care of this small flower,” I murmured, pressing the soil down carefully-just like she once said, if you nurture something with sincerity, it will eventually bloom beautifully.
Her favorite flowers.
She once said orchids were hard to grow-fragile, yet resilient. Just like her.
I smiled at my work. I couldn’t wait for them to grow. And to see the precious smile on her face.
