𝐄𝐐𝐔𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄 ♡ - | CHAPTER 47 |

“Huh, I can’t do this anymore,” Vani exclaimed, frustrated as she struggled with the math syllabus.
For her, math was nothing less than a complete nightmare.

“Don’t worry, we’re here to help,” Tanya said cheerfully, munching on snacks.

“If you want, you can ask Ruhii or even Vihaan for help,” Tanya suggested while they sat in the classroom.

Ruhanika nodded.

“No, I don’t want to disturb Ruhii. She’s already burdened with the burden of managing the cultural committee. She won’t have time,” Vani sulked, knowing Ruhii too well.

“And about Vihaan, no way! Mere se woh ek second ke liye bhi bardasht nahi hota. Jab dekho mere Sid se chipka rehta hai Fevicol ki tarah,” she muttered angrily, imagining herself punching Vihaan.

(I can’t tolerate him for even a second. He’s always stuck to my Sid like glue!)

Tanya burst into laughter.

“I know Vani if you will start studying today also, you will definitely score good marks,” Ruhanika said trying to encourage Vani.

“Nhi, Ruhii tum samjh nhi rhi ho, jo ek dam nihayati besharam bache hote haite jinke exam sar par aa jaate hain, phir bhi besharmo ki tarah nhi padhte, phir ek raat pehle hosh aata hai ki kal toh exam hai, us category me aati hu me,” Vani said dramatically.

(No, Ruhii, you’re not understanding. I’m like those shameless kids who have exams right in front of them, but act like they don’t care. Then, the night before, it hits them that the exam is tomorrow. I belong to that category)

Tanya and Ruhanika looked at each other and shook their heads until Tanya’s brain clicked with a mischievous idea.

“Uhmm Sid is also good in mathematics,” Tanya said with a wink, getting up from her seat.

Vani’s mischievous brain lit up.

“Thanks for the information,” She smirked and walked toward Siddharth.

“Hi,” she said softly, trying to sound polite.

Vihaan and Yash looked at her in shock.

“Kya hua tum dono ko?” .Vani asked, her voice calm, keyword-calm, though slightly annoyed.

(What’s wrong with you two?)

They dramatically gasped and put their hands on their chests.

“Tum Vani hi ho na? Ye tumhari awaaz hamare kaano mein aaj chubh kyun nahi rahi hai? Itni narm awaaz? Kiraaye par liya hai kya?” they both teased.

(Are you really Vani? Why isn’t your voice piercing our ears? This much soft voice? Did you rent it?)

Vani clenched her fists and glared at the two monkeys. She was already imagining all the ways she could practice her punches on them, imagining both of them punching bags.

Siddharth, meanwhile, ignored the conversation and focused on his book, knowing this drama wasn’t ending anytime soon.

“I’d appreciate it if you both shut your mouths before saying something that will have serious consequences,” Vani said sweetly but with a clear warning tone, instantly silencing them.

“Now, can you two monkeys go sit somewhere else? I need to talk to Siddharth,” she added, her tone now brimming with danger.

Vihaan and Yash looked at each other, nodded and moved away as she smiled triumphantly and sat beside Sid. He didn’t say anything, keeping his eyes on his book.

“Can you teach me Mathematics? I don’t want to mess up this exam,” she finally asked, hoping he’d agree.

“But why me? Ruhii is better in maths, or you could ask Vihaan,” he replied, adjusting his glasses.

‘Because I want to spend more time with you before school ends,’ Vani thought but didn’t dare say it aloud.

Instead, she said teasingly, “Because Ruhii belongs to the ‘topper species,’ and that species is too much for me! Last time I studied with her, she made me study for five hours straight with only a 10-minute break. How is that even possible? Ruhii is a little bit strict in terms of studying. And i fear when she appears in the topper version.”

“And Vihaan…..huhh I just can’t stand this jhingur…..he is so annoying.”

“Sab sunai de raha hai,” Vihaan said from the bench behind them, and Yash muffled a laugh.

(I can hear everything)

Vani shot him a death glare, and he rolled his eyes.

“Please, will you teach me?” she asked Sid again, her eyes sparkling with hope.

Sid wanted to say no, but for some reason, his tongue betrayed him. “Okay,” he said.

“Thank you, thank you!” she chirped happily, almost jumping to hug him but stopped herself when he shifted uncomfortably. Her smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly brushed it off.

For the next five days, Sid helped Vani with maths, ensuring she completed the syllabus.

The other day, while studying in the library with their friends, Vani whined, “Can we stop now? This is too much!”

“Just finish this assignment, and then you can take a break,” Sid replied, handing her a sheet.

She sighed dramatically but started working. The sunlight streaming through the window distracted her, but she didn’t notice because she just wanted to finish this as soon as possible and then wanted to have a peaceful sleep.

Sid, however, stood up in order to do revision as he started pacing slowly while revising and then quietly walked over and stood in front of the rays, blocking them. He glanced at her as she frowned and pouted over tough questions, as little smile plastered on his face.

He quickly looked away, shaking his head. Trying to refocus on his notes.

•••••

Finally, exam week began. The classroom was filled with students either panicking or pretending to sleep.

As Vani entered the room, the tense atmosphere made her nervous too.

“Why does everyone look like zombies? It’s just English, not rocket science” she muttered under her breath and sat down.

But as the question papers were handed out, her eyes widened in horror.

As Vani settled into her seat for the exam, she casually glanced at the question paper being handed out.

A moment later, her eyes widened, and her jaw nearly dropped to the floor.

“Today is mathematics…..!!!!!!!!?” she half-whispered, half-shouted, loud enough to make a few heads turn.

Her mind raced as she muttered to herself, “Yeh konsa mazaak ho rha hai mere sath?”

(What kind of joke is happening with me?)

Her panic quickly escalated. She clutched her head dramatically.

‘How can I check the wrong datesheet?’ she thought and then shook her head at her phooti kismat.

She peeked at the students around her, frantically flipping through the paper as if it held the secret to survival, “Yeh kaise log hain? Sab Einstein lag rahe hain mujhe. Ek main hi ullu ban ke bethi hoon yahan.”

(What kind of people are these? They all look like Einsteins. And here I am, sitting like a fool)

Vani slump in her chair, muttering under her breath, “Koi nhi Vani, ab jo hoga dekha jaayega…..phir jo hota hai vo dekha nhi jaata”

(No worries, Vani, now whatever happens, we’ll see… but what happens afterward, can’t be seen)

The teacher gave her a pointed look, but Vani wasn’t done with her rant.
“Ye saari kainat mil ke mujhe fail karne ki koshish kar rahi hai,” she hissed, glaring at the paper as if it were her enemy.

(The whole universe is conspiring to make me fail)

Finally, she groaned and turned to Vihaan, carefully not coming in invigilators sight, who is sitting behind her, and whispered dramatically, “Vihaan, can you please tell me the question number…..”

Vihaan didn’t even look up, and responded, “Vihaan behra hai.”

(Vihaan is deaf)

Vani’s jaw dropped as she muttered under her breath, “ye saari topper prajati examination hall ke andar girgit ban jaate hain. Rang badalne ki speed dekho!”

(In the exam hall, these toppers turn into chameleons. Just look at how fast they change colors)

“And the Exception is my baby Ruhii. She doesn’t know how to help in exams but she is better than this jhingur,” she continued.

“Sab sunai de rha hai, “ Vihaan muttered again and she immediately turned, “so can you please tell me the question….”

“Vihaan phir se behra ho chuka hai.”

(I can hear everything)

(Vihaan has gone deaf again)

She resigned herself to fate, muttering dramatically, “Ab jo aata hai bas chaap rhi hu baaki bas yehi pray krungi examiner ke dil mein thodi daya aa jaye mujhe masoom bacchi ke liye”

(Now, whatever comes to mind, I’m just writing it down. The rest, I’ll just pray that the examiner shows some mercy for an innocent girl like me)

She focused on her exam as she murmured, “Good job, Vani. I haven’t touched mathematics since Siddharth taught me last week. Now what? I don’t even remember a single formula!”

She sulked.

After a while, the teacher left the room for a moment. Vihaan sneakily exchanged his question paper with hers. Vani noticed some formulas on question paper and a small note scribbled on the rough side-
“Don’t waste time. Use your brain-if you have one, you female jhingur

Suppressing a smile before cursing him for daring to call her a female jhingur, she got to work.

𝐄𝐐𝐔𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄 ♡ - | CHAPTER 47 |

The exam was going smoothly-at least for now.

But I still don’t understand why on earth I chose this subject, this stupid mathematics. It took me days to cram everything in. The last four days were nothing short of torture.

I sulked as I finished my first answer sheet. Standing up, I walked over to the teacher and asked for an extra sheet. The teacher started writing something on it and signing it beforehand.

That’s when my eyes involuntarily drifted towards him.

There he was, with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, looking relaxed as he loosened his tie with one hand, the motion slow and easy, like he was shaking off the day’s stress. The way his fingers worked the knot was almost casual, yet it had a certain charm. His other hand moved quickly across the sheet, fully focused, but there was something about his calm confidence that caught your attention.

I sucked a deep breath.

How can someone look this hot in an examination hall?

I was lost in my thoughts when a throat-clearing sound startled me. The teacher was holding out my extra sheet and staring at me. Embarrassed, I grabbed it and quickly returned to my seat.

Sitting down, I tried to refocus.
Focus, Ruhanika Oberoi! This is an exam hall, not your personal daydreaming station.

But my mind wasn’t listening.
But seriously, how does our boring school uniform make him look this much dashing?

No way-stop, Ruhii!

I shook my head and forced myself to concentrate. But that’s when disaster struck.

Instead of writing my own name on my answer sheet, I wrote HIS name. Yes, HIS!

Can someone please bang my head on a wall?

Panicking, I started scribbling over the name, but the sheet tore in the process.

What the actual heck just happened?

The sound of the paper tearing echoed in the dead-silent exam hall. The teacher turned to look at me.

“I…..uh…I was just turning the sheet, and it tore. I think it was already torn before!” I blurted out, praying she wouldn’t notice the scribbled name.

“Students, if your sheet is slightly torn, give it to me,”she announced, handing me a new sheet.

Relieved, I took the fresh sheet and sat back down.

But then, to my utter disbelief, our teacher tore the old sheet completely and used it to wrap samosas!

Hainnn?

Another teacher joined her, and soon they were munching on jalebis, samosas, pav bhaji and pakoras-right in front of us starving students!

Here I am, giving my exam, hungry and thirsty, and I haven’t eaten anything, and they’re treating this exam hall like a five-star buffet? Unbelievable!

Determined to push past my cravings for pav bhaji, I focused on solving the math questions.

But as I was wrapping up, the teacher scolded someone, “Mr. Last Bench, upar dekhne se jawab nahi milenge. Jitna aata hai likho, aur agr  nahi aata, paper submit karo!”

(Mr. Last Bench, you won’t find the answers by staring at the ceiling. Write what you know, and if you don’t, submit the paper)

The teacher was seriously testing my patience, endlessly repeating, “Tie the thread on your sheet properly!” Like, just let me finish my answer first! I’ll tie it when I’m done. I am already frustrated.

Finally, I finished my exam and even revised my answers and tied my answer sheet.

The bell rang, and the exam was finally over.

Outside, I waited for him.

As soon as he came out, I blurted, “How was your exam?”

“Good, and yours?” he asked, gently moving me aside to avoid being pushed by the crowd.

“Good…but I got stuck on one question. I mean, I knew the answer, but I used the long method instead of the short one. It wasted so much time!” I rambled on.

“And why did you get stuck on that question?” he asked, taking the question paper from my hand.

Without thinking, I blurted, “Because I got distracted by you.”

Noooo, Ruhii! Why would you say that out loud?

He raised an eyebrow, a mischievous smirk spreading across his face. “Tch, I can’t blame you, Ruh. I’m a pretty irresistible guy, aren’t I? But next time, try to focus on your exam…..and save all those distractions for later, when it’s just me and you,” he whispered, his tone low and playful, leaning in closer as if daring me to lose herself in him once more. Which I already did.

I rolled my eyes. This guy and his self-obsession, I swear! But a faint blush appears on my cheeks.

Later, back in the classroom, Tanya and Vani joined me.

“How was the exam?” we asked each other, laughing.

“Good,” i replied.
“Average,” Tanya added.
“Bas ho gaya exam, baat khatam,” Vani said.

As she slump into her seat, looking defeated, and crumpled her question paper into a ball.

“What happened?” I asked, noticing her expression.

“I made a blunder,” she said with a sigh.

“Don’t worry, Vani. Question 29 was tricky. Even I got it wrong on my first attempt,” I said, trying to cheer her up.

But she shook her head,” it’s not that. I thought today was the English exam. I accidentally looked at the 11th-grade datesheet)

Tanya and I stared at her in shock.

“You what?” I exclaimed.

“Haan, ab bas passing marks aa jayein warna Baba mujhe apni property se bedakhal kar denge!” she whined dramatically.

(Yeah, now I just hope I pass, or my dad will disown me from his property)

Trying to distract her, I asked, “Want some cheesecake?”

Her face lit up instantly, “Yes!”

I handed her my lunchbox, and finally, she smiled. This girl’s mood could always be fixed with food.

We shared a bite, laughing about some illogical jokes, forgetting about the exam part.

•••••

Two days later, the last exam was finally over. It was time to relax-at least for a little while!

I haven’t really met Vihaan in the past month. Just the occasional evening walks, chats, or sometimes we would stand on the balcony for a few minutes, just looking at each other in silence, as if the conversation would start on its own. But honestly, it was peaceful.

“Hi,” I flinched when he whispered behind me.

One day, he’ll give me a heart attack with his antics. Then I’ll come back as a beautiful ghost to scare him.

“I’m sure you’ll look beautiful after turning into a ghost, but I want you to stay beside me forever,” he said sheepishly, smiling at me.

Did I say it loud?

I rolled my eyes at him, but a faint smile formed on my face.

“Ruh, I want to ask you something,” he stammered.

I nodded.

What does he want to ask? Is it about us? Is something wrong? Did he stop liking me….Or is he going to…..oh, shut up, Ruh. Don’t overthink this.

But then, that girl from the canteen, the one who bumped into him the other day, appeared again.

They both fell.

He immediately said, “Sorry,” as I bent down to help him, and he held my hand to stand up.

I was about to help the girl, but then many students rushed to assist her.

I asked him, “Are you okay?” He nodded.

I glared at her. She nervously looked at me but quickly averted her gaze to him as she said, “Oh, I’m really sorry, I just tripped, I hope you’re okay.”

He just nodded, and I began tapping my foot on the ground.

Meanwhile, she started a completely illogical conversation with him. Or maybe it wasn’t illogical for them, but for me, it was. They were talking about some sports tournaments.

If only I knew a bit more about sports…..I wouldn’t feel so out of place.

He was answering her questions in one-word replies trying to end the  conversation as soon as possible and the moment the sports teacher called him, he said to me, “I’ll meet you later, Ruh, please have your lunch, don’t skip it, and I’ve kept a juice bottle on your table. Drink it.”

He went to the teacher, and the girl, whose name I don’t even remember, followed him to the sir because she has some doubts regarding form.

I smiled a little when I remembered that this morning, before the exam, I casually told him I was craving pomegranate juice. He remembered.

I sat on the bench and saw the juice bottle. As I took a sip, my anger started to melt away a little, but the image of that moment in the corridor still lingered in my mind. I sulked harder.

“Sometimes I just want to say incoherent words,” I muttered, feeling angry.

Both Tanya and Vani looked at me.

“Just say it,” Tanya mumbled, stuffing an aloo paratha bite in her mouth.

“If you don’t know, I can teach you a whole bunch of special words….I mean incoherent words,” Vani smirked, munching on her chocolate.

“But it’s bad manners to curse someone,” I shrugged off the negative thoughts.

“What happened?” Vani asked.

I told them about the corridor moment.

“I’m telling you, that girl definitely has a crush on him. And it’s definitely not healthy,” Vani said.

“I am feeling angry,” I muttered.

“Say it, Ruhii.”

“Yes, Ruhii you can do it.”

“We are with you Ruhii.”

But the anger kept bubbling inside me, and finally, I muttered, “Stupid idiot species of Hemidactylus! ”

Vani choked, staring at me in confusion, “Ayeein, kaafi aesthetic gaali thi.”

(It was quite an aesthetic insult)

Tanya, who had finished her aloo paratha, finally said, “Aasan bhaasha mein bole toh, chipkali bol rahi hai.”

(In simple words, she is calling her a lizard)

She sipped her water, and they both burst into laughter.

“Okay, okay now don’t make fun of me,” I lowered my face, hiding my embarrassment.

“Ruhii, why are you so cute, if I would have been a boy i would have immediately married you,” Vani jokingly said, but her voice was interrupted by a stern voice, “Don’t you dare.”

I saw Vihaan in a slight panic, glaring at Vani.

“Stop thinking the other way about Ruh and besides she is not interested in you,” He said, fixing his hair.

“Mr. jhingur, you don’t know, I know all the ways to charm my best friend. Ruhii will be immediately impressed with me. I have the potential to become the perfect partner for her, right, Ruhii baby?” Vani teased in a flirty tone.

Vihaan’s face turned to shock.

“I’m starting to look a suitable partner for you so you can leave my Ruh alone,” Vihaan muttered as he went back to his seat, planning how to keep me away from Vani.

Vani yelled, “Then ask your best friend, who looks hotter with his glasses on!”

Both Tanya and I coughed at her comment.

He looked at her in disbelief and came closer to me, saying, “I told you, Ruh, she’s a little cracked.”

“You’re more cracked than her,” Tanya muttered, and he glared at her.

I shook my head as they continued their senseless conversation.

Sid came up beside me, “What’s going on here?”

Tamasha. Just enjoy,” I said, and we fist-punched, starting to enjoy the drama while sipping on my juice.

Then a kid came and called Tanya, saying someone wanted to talk to her.

I looked over and recognized that it was our head boy.

Vani immediately stopped and started staring at her.

“Isn’t that our head boy?”

“Yes,” we all nodded.

“Then what are they doing?” Vani asked.

“Probably cabinet team work,” I replied.

But Vihaan muttered, “This doesn’t look like cabinet work. Look at him—he seems so nervous. And that card in his hand…”

I nodded and looked over at the water tank, where Yash was glaring at our poor head boy.

Tanya laughed, probably because he said something to her, and she hit him on the shoulder. They accidentally touched their hands.

Meanwhile, Yash didn’t notice the water overflowing from the tank, and it started flooding the area.

“Jale par namak chidakna aata hai,” Vani smirked, and Sid and I both looked at her confused.

(You know how to rub salt in the wound)

Vihaan gave a mischievous grin and slowly stood beside us. Meanwhile Sid and I were just looking at each other in confusion

As Vani wrapped her both hands around our shoulder, “mai sikhati hu.”

(I’ll teach you)

We walked over to Yash. I raised my eyebrows, asking Vani’s sentence, and Vihaan held my hand.

I tried to pull away, but he didn’t let go.

“Just enjoy the drama, Ruh.”
And I stood there, in confusion.

“OMG, they both look so cute together, like a PERFECT couple!” Vani said, stretching out “perfect” like she was auditioning for a movie role.

Sid and I exchanged glances, and it was like a lightbulb went on—because we understood what Vani was trying to do.

I saw Yash, his fist tightening like he was ready to punch a wall.

“I agree,” Vihaan said, giving Yash even more reason to grow a few more wrinkles on his forehead.

Yash just glared, but said nothing. It was like watching a pressure cooker about to explode.

“Oh, I really wish they ended up together,” Vani added, her tone too sweet to be true.

Yash shot her the death stare and walked off downstairs.

“What the actual heck? How is he so chill about this?” Vani muttered, clearly upset her plan failed.

I just rolled my eyes, hoping Yash didn’t decide to break something or someone on his way down.

“Gadha hai woh,” Vihaan muttered, his eyes narrowing like he was the one who had to clean up Yash’s mess.

I looked at Tanya, who was scribbling on a piece of paper like she was writing a secret letter to the Queen. And then our head boy thanked her.

•••••

After school ended, I walked with him, the cool breeze making everything feel lighter.

“You know about Tanya’s feelings, right?” I asked, breaking the silence.
He let out a long sigh, shaking his head.

“I’ve known her since childhood, and she’s so obvious about it. Anyone can figure it out, but my best friend? That guy’s an idiot,” he chuckled.

“Yash looks like he’s easy-going, but he’s actually complicated. Same goes for Sid, he seems calm, but I know, there’s a storm brewing inside him.”

“I try giving hints to Yash, but if someone is in denial, I can’t do much more, that’s why I never interfere between them” he said, his tone laced with understanding.

I nodded, trying to process his words.

“Let’s just leave it to fate. Whatever happens, happens for a reason.” he said with a small smile.

He handed me a chocolate bar, and I ripped the packet open, tearing it in half.

I passed him half of it but he mumbled, “Feed me.”

As he took a bite, I offered him the other piece, but when my fingers brushed against his lips, it felt like electricity shot through me. His lips were so soft, and the moment lingered, making my heart race.

And then, my mind flooded with not-so-innocent thoughts about him.

My brain is completely short-circuited.

‘Stop blaming me, it’s hormones,’ my brain complained.

‘Aren’t you the one who controls everything?’ I shot back with a question.

‘No comments,’ my brain sulked, leaving me to deal with the awkwardness.

We reached my house, and I said, “So, bye,” fidgeting with my fingers nervously.

“Yeah, bye,” he replied, but his voice wavered with unease.

I turned to walk away but then stopped as I remembered our corridor conversation.

“You want to say something, right?” I asked, turning back to him.

He looked a little surprised but nodded quickly.

“Yeah, so our exams are over and we have some free time… So…”
He stepped closer to me, taking a deep breath.

“So….Ruh, would you want to go on a date with me tomorrow?” His words hung in the air, and my heart skipped a beat.

A date.
With him.
Like a couple date.

I felt my cheeks burning up, and I quickly averted my gaze, not wanting him to see my blushed face.

“So…will you?” he asked again, and this time I was more than a little flustered.

I bit my lip and turned my back on him, trying to hide my embarrassment. He sighed but i slightly turned my neck to stop him.

“Make sure to wear a white shirt on our first date,” I said, trying to regain some control. “My boyfriend looks freaking hot in white shirt,” I added with a wink, letting a little flirt slip out.

His eyes widened, and his neck turned a deep shade of pink. I chuckled, loving how cute he looked when he got flustered.

“Okay, I’ll message you the timing,” he replied, still recovering from the shock.

I closed the door behind me, but a strange smile lingered on my face as I couldn’t stop giggling. I dropped my bag on the couch and twirled around, feeling like I had just won the lottery.

“Did you win some sort of lottery?” I heard a voice behind me, and I turned to see Bhai eating my truffle cake.

That is mine.

“How dare you eat my cake?” I marched over in mock anger, watching him finish the last bite.

“Sorry, Ruhii. I came back from a night shift from the hospital, and in lunch, there was karele ki sabzi… I couldn’t take it, and your masoom  brother was starving,” he said with exaggerated sadness.

Innocent and my brother, huh? Yeah, right.

“Okay, okay,” I said, pretending to soften.

“You can eat anything, but not my cake.”

He looked at me with a look of betrayal, “You can’t even share a little piece of your truffle cake with your brother?”

I shook my head, feeling guilty. He really had been working hard, after all.

“I can share with you,” I said, holding out my remaining piece of cake. “But not my truffle cake,” I added, pulling it away like a dramatic diva.

He sighed and grabbed my piece, but then I remembered I needed his help.

“Bhai, you want to have this cake.”

He looked up, raising an eyebrow, “kya chahiye?”

“So, you know how the exams are over and I want a little break before finals? I need permission for a dat- i mean day out tomorrow.”

He raised an eyebrow, skeptical. “Who are you going out with?”

I hesitated. I had to lie. “I’m going with V….Vi…..Vani……Tanya and Vihaan is coming too.”

For the first time, I lied to my brother.

I couldn’t tell him the truth, he’d make a huge scene if he found out I was going with Vihaan.

“Weird,” he said after a pause.

“What’s weird?” I asked, trying not to let my lie show.

“That this truffle cake tastes like gulab jamun,” he said with a serious tone.

I slapped my forehead in frustration. “Bhai!”

And he went back to his gulab jamun mode, completely ignoring me.

“Fine, I’ll ask Dad,” he said, ruffling my hair.

I pulled my cake away from him, glaring.

“Not even one bite more!”

“What about this?” I asked looking at the lunch.

We both know we don’t like this but we have to eat.

“Fine I’m going to eat paneer makhani after this to forget about the horrible taste of karela,” he said, pulling out his phone to order food.

We both ate the karela ki sabzi reluctantly, because of Mumma ka khauf.

(fear of Mom)

TOMORROW

I threw my clothes in the room because of frustration.

Nothing seemed right.

“Yaha kya sailab aya tha?” Mumma entered my room, clearly shocked at the mess.

(What happened here?)

I was supposed to look perfect. It was a date, after all.

“Can you help me pick something? I don’t have anything to wear,” I said, feeling helpless.

Only mom and Bhai knows about that I am going for a date…I mean a day out.

We had to lie to Dad that I am going for extra study session in a Library.
It was bhai’s idea. He said we will tell him the truth after I come back, his mood was off that’s why we had to lie.

I am feeling a little bit bad but i will apologize to him.

Mom stared at me, then went to her closet and handed me a beautiful white floral strap dress with tiny pink flowers. She also handed me a matching pink cardigan, as the chilly winds are sweeping through today’s weather.

“I’ll get changed,” I said, relieved.

I quickly slipped into the dress and curled my hair a little. Afterward, I went through my bow clip collection and found a pink one to attach a few strands of hair on each side.

Then came the makeup. I loved it. I like to get ready. It was like a mini celebration of my own.
But now I have reason to get ready for someone.

A few swipes of the makeup Tanya had taught me, and I was done.

A soft pink tint on my lips was all I needed.

I quickly snapped a picture and sent it to the group chat with Vani and Tanya.

Tanya, being Tanya, immediately responded.

Tanya: Oh my god, Ruhii, you look so sundar.

Vani: Bas ab jaan lene ka irada hai kya is masoom se dil ka?

(Now, are you planning to take my life?)

I giggled at their responses, feeling both giddy and nervous.

I glanced at myself in the mirror, took a deep breath, and then sighed.

I hope everything goes fine.
